The Meeting of Two Yuki
Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:30 pm
Yoi was sitting at a fountain in the middle of Konoha. The clouds were out, meaning Yoi was out. He hated the sun. But now that the sun was covered by the clouds, it was a beautiful day. Obviously, not to most others, but to Yoi, it was beautiful. The snowfall a few months ago. That was beautiful. Speaking of snow, he had been hanging out at night, and he saw a fire start to burn. A snowfall formed and put the fire out. It had to have been a Yuki doing so. It was so out of season. It had to have been a Yuki. The storm was about 200 meters in diameter. That wasn’t a naturally occurring weather pattern. On top of that, it had dispersed within 30-ish minutes. It had to have been a Yuki jutsu. But a very strong one. An A-rank or an S-rank. That was because of the HUGE area of effect. It must have been a very strong Yuki.
The white marble of the fountain was a dark gray because of the shadows of the clouds. The wooden houses that were surrounding the fountain were occupied by people, for they didn’t want to get caught up in the oncoming storm.
Yoi was sucking on an ice cube. It had been in his mouth since this morning, and now it was almost noon. It was reduced to a mere sliver. If Yoi was a normal person, the ice cube would’ve melted hours ago. But because of his cold body temperature, thanks to the Yuki blood running through him, the ice melted at a very slow pace.
The white-haired Yuki was dressed in his usual attire. A light blue shirt with the Yuki symbol stitched on the back, a pair of clean white pants and dark blue shoes. For the past few hours, he had been debating what we was gonna do now that the majority of Konoha had left for the war. Yoi couldn’t believe that they were fighting Sunagkure, home to numerous missing ninja. He had heard that one of them had conquered Sunagakure all by himself. But it was odd. Sunagakure used to be trade partners with Konohagakure. Speaking of villages, Yoi had heard that years ago, the Yuki had their own village. It would kind of be nice to reform it, but Yoi would hate to leave his friends in Konoha. He wondered why Yukigakure had disappeared. Apparently it had been functioning perfectly fine. Maybe the other villages though they were monopolizing the popsicle trade...
The Yuki clan was relatively small, at least compared to the Uchiha. The Uchiha had their own district. Yoi didn't know how the Hyuuga managed to get their own district. There were like, no Hyuuga in Konoha anymore. It was such a small clan. The Uchiha had their own dojutsu. But the Yuki, the Yuki, they had their own element. Ice Release. It was a combination of Wind Release and Water Release. Yoi could learn Water Release and follow that up by learning Ice Release, but it was super hard without someone to teach him. He didn’t know anyone who actually knew either of the elements. Like, Yoi could try learning it by himself, but it was super hard. Moving water! Like, how? His father had given him a test once. To see if Yoi knew Water Release. He had given him a bucket, with a hole on the bottom. He had filled it up with water. Yoi’s dad said that if Yoi could stop the water from dripping, he would teach Yoi Water Release jutsu. If not, he would have Yoi learn it himself. The thing was, Yoi had been “learning” Water Release. Also known as, sitting at home, and “meditating” on how to learn Water Release. That meant he was sitting with a good book in front of him and relaxing most of the time. But a few days ago, as his father left for the war, the man had handed him a bucket with a hole on the bottom. He had said to him, “Learn it by the time I get back. If I don’t get back, when we see each other in the afterlife, I want you to tell me the stories of you, the best Ice Release wielder ever.”
Yoi sat there, bucket in hand. He scooped up water and closed his eyes as the water leaving the bucket hit the fountain with a drip… drip… drip… drip… drip… drip... drip... drip... drip... drip... drip... drip...... drip... drip...
The water had stopped dripping briefly. Yoi's eyes flashed open. Excitement coursed through his veins. He had done it! Then he saw a coin sink slowly to the bottom of the fountain. The drip had been disguised by the coin hitting the water. Darn it. Drip... drip... drip… drip… drip… drip… drip... drip... drip... drip... drip... drip

Nothing burns like the cold. But only for a while. Then it gets inside you and starts to fill you up, and after a while you don't have the strength to fight it. To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold. Appreciating the young Yuki did, as standing out. In the Land of Fire Skadi was probably one of the few who enjoyed the cold weather but he didn't have to think long to find his reasons as to why he did. Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is time for home. The snow doesn't give a soft white damn whom it touches. Snow brings a special quality with it, the power to stop life as you know it dead in its tracks. There's just something beautiful about walking in snow that nobody else has walked on. It makes you believe you're special. The young Yuki missed the snow, he missed looking at it, walking in it, tasting it. He used to love those days when it was so cold everyone else would be tucked away inside trying to stay warm. Skadi would be the only one out walking, so he could look across the fields and see miles of snow without a single footprint in it. It would be completely silent - no cars, no birds singing, no doors slamming. Just silence and snow. Silently, like thoughts that come and go, the snowflakes fall, each one a gem. Even the strongest blizzards start with a single snowflake.
Not only that but you could easily compare it to oneself. Sometimes our fate resembles a fruit tree in winter. Who would think that those branches would turn green again and blossom, but we hope it, we know it. Just how a snowflake is one of the most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together. The same could be said about the people of his village. The people of Konohagakure no Sato who at times were vulnerable, fragile, weak, damaged and easily broken. But when it really mattered stood strong, together. To face whatever was coming at them. It made him decide to be like snow - cold, but beautiful. All of that made the Yuki feel uneasy in the Land of Fire where it had been some time since they last seen snow. There was nothing wrong with the people, not at all. It was just the different environment he was in that made him feel out of place. The same could be said about the boy he saw sitting in front of a bucket. Just like snow in Konohagakure no Sato it was something out of the ordinary, unexpected and a rather peculiar sight. The boy looked to be around Skadi's age, maybe slightly younger, with the same white hair. The young Yuki was curious about what the boy was doing and decided to head over. "Something the matter?"

Drip… drip… drip… drip… “Something the matter?” Yoi jumped as a voice disturbed his concentration. He turned around, looking at the boy in front of him. It was odd to see someone out in weather like this. Compared to the height of Yoi, especially when he was sitting like he is now, this person was gigantic. Almost a whole foot taller! The other boy had similar colors in the clothing he was wearing, it almost looked just like Yoi’s clothing. Yoi decided to take the social route. As Yoi's dad often said, social was always the better route. Often times a “hello” and a smile can get you miles farther than a rude and blunt approach. And that meant it was more efficient! As he stood up to say “hi” to the boy, he noticed the boy had white hair. Quite an odd trait for Konoha. Before he talked though, he had to appear professional. He smoothed down his white dress pants and smiled. Yoi set the bucket down beside him and stuck his hand out. The white-haired Yuki cheerfully said, “Oh, it’s nothing, I’m just doing a little bit of training. I’m Yoi by the way, what’s your name?”

Yoi. The boy had given Skadi his name. Clearly surprised by the sudden appearance of Skadi the young boy needed some time to regain his composure. He didn't mean to scare him but it seemed like he was completely focussed on the bucket in front of him and not paying attention to everything happening around him. Whatever he was doing needed his full concentration. If he didn't know better Skadi was getting the feeling that the boy was talking to himself before he would finally respond to his question. "Out doing some training huh? And what might this so called training be?" At first glance it didn't look like any form of training but then again Skadi wasn't familiar with the whole shinobi stuff. He went to the Academy, graduated and became a Genin but that's it. No training, no missions, no team, nothing. Only the basics. His interests were laying somewhere else, at the hospital where he used his medical skills to help and treat patients. He hadn't found the time to undergo any proper training as of yet. "Oh right, you can call me Skadi."

The boy had asked him about his training. Yoi said, “Well, I don’t really know how it works. My dad was leaving for the war a few days ago, and he gave me this training.” Yoi turned around, taking great care to show the Yuki symbol stitched onto the back of his clothing. Yoi felt as if the Yuki was an ignored clan, and he took great pride in his heritage. He took the bucket off the hook it was on, and made sure all the water had been emptied out. Yoi turned back around, showing him the bucket.
He started explaining the training exercise, “The water comes out of the of hole at the bottom. The objective is to stop the water flow. Apparently, that will show I have learned Water Release. And that will mean, I am ready to learn Ice Release.”
Yoi took his hand back, as the other boy showed no sign of wanting to shake it. As the boy told him his name, he said, “Nice to meet you Skadi. May I ask what you are doing out here on this day?”

Skadi listened carefully as the boy started to explain the goal of his training. Yoi showed him the bucket and told him what his objective was by using a bucket with a single hole in it. It seemed that his father had told him that if he was able to stop the water from flowing he would have learned Water release. Strange, if only it was that simple to learn any element. But again, if it was his father who told Yoi about it he decided not to say anything about such type of training. For now he would just listen to Yoi's explanation before giving his opinion. While the boy had reached back for the bucket Skadi could spot the Yuki clan symbol on his back. Interesting he thought, to run into another member of the clan, and in Konoha of all places. Just because they were from the same clan didn't mean that Skadi would suddenly start to act any different, which was the same reason as to why he didn't accept the young boy's hand earlier. It would take more for Skadi to act all friendly towards someone he had just met. Anyway it looked like the other Yuki was done speaking, meaning it was time for Skadi to share his thoughts on the matter.
"Nice to meet you too Yoi. As to why I'm out here by myself is because I just returned from my shift at the hospital" he answered the boy's question. Now that he knew why he was sitting outside with a bucket in front of him he had more to talk about. Putting aside the fact that it was a rather strange approach to learning the Water element the Yuki tried to stay as polite as possible. Skadi himself had an affinity towards Water release so it was hard for him to put himself in Yoi's place. With a bit of free time on his hands he was hoping he wouldn't regret the choice he was about to make. "If you're looking to learn Water release I can help you out with that." Returning from the hospital on his way home he didn't expect such a turn of events, especially one involving another Yuki. But if he wanted to become more social and open up to people he figured it might be a good place to start. Hence why he decided to help Yoi with this training. "Once I'm done with you stopping that bucket from leaking will be a piece of cake."
In contrast to Yoi's father Skadi would approach it completely different. Making water stop from flowing in a bucket wouldn't mean you have mastered the element of water. No, Skadi saw things in a bigger picture. He would take Yoi with him to the closest river nearby and have him practice on a much bigger scale. If he was able to handle something as big as a river he would have no trouble handling a bucket. "What do you say?" Skadi asked, and this time he would be the one putting his hand in front of him. If Yoi were to accept the reached out hand it would also mean he had accepted the proposal. "Follow me" he said while leading Yoi to the river.

Yoi was surprised at the fact that a boy near his age was working at a hospital. That took, like, years of study. As the boy told him that he knew Water Release, Yoi internally breathed a sigh of relief. This was going to be a lot easier and efficient this way. And stopping this bucket would be easy? This was quite a few tasks checked off his to-do list. As Yoi’s dad said, “You must be as swift as a coursing river with all the force of a great typhoon.” He must be as fast as water, and as powerful as wind. He must fuse finesse and power together to create something truly next-level. Something known as Ice Release. As Skadi asked him about teaching him Water Release, Yoi promptly responded with, “Yeah, let’s get on with it.” As Skadi told Yoi to follow him, Yoi followed. Now this was going to get him one giant step closer to learning Ice Release.

Now that Yoi had decided to follow him, Skadi would nod and turn his attention to the river, moving his body to sit down beside it. "Close your eyes and focus on the water beside you. Listen to the waves and feel the water between your fingertips.” Once the boy sat down and closed his eyes he would wait a minute or two before speaking again. “Good, now open your eyes and place your hand into the water." He placed his right hand in the river to demonstrate what he meant. Once Yoi had followed his instructions Skadi lifted his hand up out of the water and resting it a couple inches above the river's surface. “Now I’ll show you how to focus your chakra into your hand and into the water, allowing you to gain control of the natural element.” Before Skadi would continue his explanation he would give Yoi some time to take in all of the information.
“With the chakra on your palm it should be easier for you to expel it into the water below. Try to pull the top layer of water from the river towards you. Be gentle and fluid with your movements, firm yet not rough enough to disrupt the flow. After you are able to do this, being able to learn water release jutsu shouldn’t be difficult." Skadi would take a few steps back as he was finished giving his explanation and showing what Yoi had to try to accomplish. Hoping the boy would follow his example Skadi would then give him some space as the younger Yuki would need his full concentration and focus on the task ahead. Once he had mastered this part it would only be a matter of time before he would be able to learn most of the Water jutsu and completing his little exercise with the bucket wouldn't be any problem at all. "Take your time."

Yoi was following Skadi until they reached a flowing river. Skadi sat down, and after a hand signal from the boy, Yoi proceeded to do the same. Skadi started giving him directions, “Close your eyes and focus on the water beside you. Listen to the waves and feel the water between your fingertips.” They sat there, listening to the waves. Yoi let the ice cold water rush over his fingers, fully awakening his senses. He felt every detail of the water. The silt, clay, little pieces of plants, the occasional piece of garbage, a fish swimming between his fingers, and most importantly, the water.
“Good, now open your eyes and place your hand into the water.” Yoi opened his eyes and fully submerged his hand in the water as Skadi demonstrated. Skadi then pulled his hand out of the water and continued talking, “Now I’ll show you how to focus your chakra into your hand and into the water, allowing you to gain control of the natural element.” Yoi thought about what Skadi said, and it made perfect sense. Yoi had been channeling his chakra into the bucket, not the water itself. Why had he not thought of that?

As Skade stepped back Jakku thought about it. That was an interesting exercise, pulling part of the river out of the river. Like making a thin sheet of water. Skadi finished it off by saying, “Take your time.”
Yoi got down on his knees and put his left hand right on the surface of the water. He put his right hand around his left wrist to provide support. Yoi closed his eyes and channeled his chakra into his hand. As he tugged at the water, he felt the water start to give way to the touch of his chakra. It bent and curled. It twisted and shook. He tried his best to best to shape it into what he wanted. Yoi channeled more chakra into his palm, until it was almost full to the brim. He squeezed his eyes shut even farther and put all his effort into this. Yoi was slowly getting there, getting closer and closer and closer. He felt a little square form below the water. Yoi slowly pulled his hand up, at an attempt to bring his little square of water out of the river. He opened his eyes and saw a 1 inch square in front in his palm. It was so thin he wouldn’t be able to see it from a side view, but he had done it. Yoi had pulled water out of the river with only his chakra.

Skadi witnessed how Yoi was following each and every step of the way. A good start is half the battle and this time Yoi's opponent would be the water from the river. It was all a matter of how bad he wanted to succeed. The outcome of this so called battle would be decided by how well Yoi would put his mind to it. It was him against the river. Whatever happened from this point on would all be on him. No more help from Skadi, the guidance ended the second Yoi sat down and put his hand in the river to master the element of water. It was up to the young Yuki if it would end in success or failure. Skadi knew it all too well from his experience in the hospital. Once it's a matter of life or death you have only yourself to depend on. No one would be holding your hand, no matter how old or young you are. You won't get anywhere in life by only depending on others. There were going to be choices only you could make. Only you can decide the path you'll be taking.
For better or worse it seemed like Yoi was getting the hang of it. Slow but steady he was able to pull the top layer of water from the river towards him. A small success but a success nonetheless. After struggling with his bucket it was certain Yoi would feel rather ecstatic after witnessing with his own eyes what he was able to. It was only the beginning of course. Just because he was able to pull some water towards him didn't mean he would be learning one water technique after the other. Practice and hard work would still be needed to put in. But for now he was allowed to feel proud. "Good, but this is only the beginning. Keep training until you truly become one with the water and it comes to you almost naturally. That's when you will have fully mastered it."

But for now he was allowed to feel proud. "Good, but this is only the beginning. Keep training until you truly become one with the water and it comes to you almost naturally. That's when you will have fully mastered it."
