Spooky Scary Spirits

It was probably a little audacious for a fresh genin to sign up for B rank missions as soon as they graduated, but Kanata had a feeling he’d be fine. After all, these types of missions were made for a Kamigawa. Their clan was the best at dealing with spirits, an honouring the spirits of the ancestors never hurt, either. There were two people he was supposed to be meeting up to accomplish these tasks with, but he didn’t mind. It could be a good opportunity to make friends, or at the very least to learn the names and faces of some of his fellow shinobi.

They were to meet outside of a mid-sized shrine, where they were expected to help out or just spend some time. This was going to be the easiest part of the mission, but it wasn’t going to be boring, not for Kanata. He’d been doing things like these since he was little, it was a part of his clan’s heritage. If anything, the mission was welcome. He did have to wonder how his temporary teammates would handle these more religious types of missions, and if either of them even practiced religion of any kind. Religious worship was popular in Hoshigakure, but it was not absolute. Atheists existed in Hoshi just as they did in any other village.

Coming to a stop just outside the shrine, Kanata wasn’t entirely surprised he’d arrived first. He was eager to get started, and had left home early to arrive at the meetup spot. He would definitely wait for his teammates for at least a little bit, though, so he soon found himself occupied by studying the landscape around the shrine, and the shrine itself. It was for the most part very well maintained, with only a few signs of age. This garnered an approving nod from the blue-haired young man, his eyes trailing over everything from the individual stones in the path to the shrine, to every little crack in the walls.

“One..Two…Three…Nine hundred and ninety-nine.. One … Two…Three…One thousand”, Ciel would say as he would fall to the ground from exhaustion. He had been doing push-ups most of the morning and wouldn’t give up till he had reached his goal of One thousand push up. He had been going light on the training the last couple of weeks and felt as though he deserved to do something good for his body before he left out to go start a mission. He had been informed the day before that he would go out in a team of three to complete some mission around the village. It hadn't been to long since he had completed his last mission so a break would of been nice but he was never really one to complain about earning money. He also wanted to get as many missions done as possible so that he could prove himself ready for the title of Chunin and start making his way up the ladder because the last thing he wanted to do was remain a genin for the rest of his life.

He quickly washed himself off and then made his way to the meeting location. If his memory served him right today he would be repeating one of the missions he had done before so at first, it kind of bothered him but then he realized that he must had done a good enough job on the last one that someone in the higher-ups had thought it was best to send him on this one again. He didnt remember who the two other genin that he would be working with today but he had hoped that things would go smoothly and that they could complete the task rather quickly, he would love to be able to get back home to get some more training in before it was to late.

After a short run he had arrived at the shrine and not to his surprise one of the genin he would be working with today was already there waiting. "Hey you must be one of the other genin that ill be working with today, pleasure to meet you im Ciel", he would say with a smile as he held out his hand for a shake. He had hoped that this guy was a cool dude and wouldn't cause any problem but he always gave people the benefit of the doubt before judging.

It was early morning and Hiroshi knew he had a couple of missions to complete today. He rolled out of bed and looked at the pack of smokes he had on his side table. Only three left, ah, I guess I’ll have to swing by the shop before I get there. Hiroshi would think to himself as he got his clothes and gear together. As he left the house, he pulled out a cigarette from his mostly empty pack and headed to the shop to pick up a new pack. While he headed there, he thought about the missions at hand, one was to help around the shrines, tend to the grounds, and learn about the religions of the shrines. This was a mission Hiroshi would be proud to do, he was confused why it was a “B” ranked mission, but he would be honored to learn and help clean up a couple of shrines. He was excited to work on the second mission though, it had everything to do with everything he was obsessed with. Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins were all the things he studied extensively.
Ever since he was a young boy Hiroshi was enthralled with the afterlife and spirits. He read and studied the spooky side of life and he enjoyed learning about it. Hiroshi wasn’t sure about actually meeting a spirit in the flesh. He was sure he’d be stoic in the face of adversity, but this was going to be something he’d never seen in person. He was getting a little anxious about the idea of meeting a spirit. Never meet your childhood heroes. He thought as he paid for his smokes and pocketed the pack. From there he looked over the mission’s scrolls and took into account the meeting place and the other two names.
Hiroshi had worked with Ciel Uchiha before on a handful of missions, he was a brave and very matter-a-fact shinobi, Hiroshi liked Ciel’s to the point attitude. Hiroshi was excited to have a second mission with Ciel because he wanted to get to know him more, maybe they could be friends. There was a second name on the scroll, Kanata, a newer Genin to Hoshigakure. Not a shinobi Hiroshi had helped to pass the Genin exam. Hiroshi looked at his last name, Kamigawa, he didn’t know much about the clan, but he knew they were a powerful group and he thought he’ll have a lot of potential. The time was getting close Hiroshi needed to be at the meeting spot at the shrine. He would spark up another cigarette and head over to the meeting spot.
When he arrived at the shrine there was the view of a familiar face. Standing at five feet eight inches and one hundred and thirty pounds, Ciel Uchiha, wearing an outfit similar to the first time they met. It looked like his hair was still drying, either he sweated a lot from the run here, or he just worked out. “Good morning, Ciel, it’s good to see you again.” Hiroshi would say to the familiar younger shinobi. He looked closer at the shrine and noticed the Kamigawa standing there waiting for the other two to arrive. Hiroshi took notice of the teen’s black hair, or was it blue? He had a hard time determining what color it was. Katana’s outfit was wearing clothes with a celestial body theme and various blues and golds. Hiroshi approached the newly appointed genin and Ciel. “Good morning, Kanata, looks like we got some work to do. I’m Hiroshi Inugashi the last to arrive it looks like.” Hiroshi said, looking at the shrine they were sent to take care of.

After he was done with his greeting Ciel would look over and notice that Hiroshi had made his way over to join them on the mission. "well that makes this more fun, now that someone I know is coming a lot on the mission", he thought to himself. He didn't mind doing missions with new people because after all that is a good way to make new friends but at the same time doing things with friends is always a good way to pass the time, especially on long missions. Once Hiroshi got close should greet him the same way he did the guy he just met.

"Morning Hiroshi, how have you been my friend", he would say holding out his hand. He had been on a couple of missions with Hiroshi before and knew he was a dependable shinobi, hopefully, the guy he just met would be the same. The last thing Ciel would want to do is carry home an injured shinobi or worse. Ciel would give the other two shinobi a chance to greet and exchange pleasantries but once they were done he would look at the scroll containing the mission,"Well it looks like this one is a simple one boys, all we have to do is tend to the ground and make it look pretty around here for families and friends to have a better and more beautiful environment to visit their loved ones who are no longer with us". he said as he shifted his gaze in between his two teammates.

He wasn't a big fan of graveyards and the last thing he wanted to do was spend his entire day doing this one mission, he hoped that his team would share then same sentiment as him. He would wait to see if his teammates had anything to say about the mission or how they would want the missions to go. If they didnt say anything he wouldnt waste any more time standing there and instead would be making his way to the grave sites. As he would look at his first tombstone he would spend a moment to read his name and year of death."Loving husband huh", he would say as he read what was on the tomb. He couldn't help but feel as though this is how everyone would end up, with no one even caring enough to clean off their tombstone. It was for that reason is why he partially envied cultures that kept up with their family tree.

Not wanting to waste to much time on just one stone, he quickly finished cleaning it and moved on to the next one. As he cleaned each stone , he would say a slight prayer for each one hoping that he wasn't praying good things for some weirdo. He would look over to see what his teammates had gotten done but he didn't see them at first so he hoped that they were getting the job done and not just chilling while he did all the work. It didnt take him long to clean a very good portion of the graveyard and shrines, but even after all this time he still had no sight of what his teammates were doing, and for a moment he was worried that they might have ran into grave robbers or something of the sort. He would spend a few moments deciding on whether or not he had done enough but decided that it was since it was three of them and they had to split the workload amongst the three of them.

Not wasting anymore time he got up and ran to collect his payment.
