Cold Hard Truths [Mission]
Wed Mar 05, 2014 12:09 pm
She was not dressed for this job at all.
The three students, who didn’t look any more than god damn twelve years old, stared up at her in awe. It wasn’t a cocktail dress much less a magenta day dress that looked more like a negligee. The skirt stopped just above her knee and strappy black heels wrapped up to her calves. Well... at least she was wearing a white long cardigan over her get up. Her hand was behind her head, passively scratching a non-existent itch out of boredom more so than embarrassment.
“So...” she started with an unsure drawl. Her red eyes flicked from one to the next to the last. She leaned back on her chair. “What did you want to know about genin?”
It took a couple of seconds to realise that she actually was not a mannequin as one of the students exclaimed, “What kind of cool missions do you get to do?!”
“Do you like counting kunai?” she countered.
The student blinked, caught off guard, and stuttered, “Eh? Uh... no, not really...”
“Then they’re boring...” she paused for a moment, as if she was thinking. “Well, I guess you could also chase after a runaway cat and bring it back to an old woman.” Silence fell over the three children. They looked bewildered, disappointed, heartbroken and angry all at once.
“Are you serious?” the second asked, disbelieving. Yume nodded. Why would she lie to defenceless little kids? “Do you get to do anything? Learn cool jutsu? ANYTHING AT ALL?”
Yeesh, that was loud. Yume partially covered one ear and she hummed, thinking once more. “You get to walk on trees and water, I suppose...?” The students stared at her again in silence, dumbfounded. This woman wasn’t really helping the case in recruiting more genin shinobi here, but the things she had said so far were total truths. Besides, Yume smiled to herself, they told her to show them the basics of being genin. Telling the truth is still doing her job. What kind of cruel being would sugarcoat this stuff anyway?
Finally, they gave up on it. “Lady, you look a bit too old to be a genin. You keep saying genin is boring, so why aren’t you chuunin or even cooler, a jounin?”
Yume laughed in response and leaned back further on her chair and plopping her feet, ankles crossed, onto the table in front of her. She made sure that her dress did not slide up too far. Boys will be stupid boys after all. “Does it matter?”
