more wanderings...

The Hyena sat in, well, to call the grungy and dirty place a home would be an overstatement. Perhaps you could call it a den. Speaking of which, did hyenas even have dens? He frowned, in concentration, trying to remember whether they did or not. While he tried to remember if that factoid in particular was even mentioned in the book of animals he had grown up next to, it being almost a bedrock for his soul during particularly harrowing times, too bad the moon light was generally not sufficient lighting, causing him eye strain on more than one occasion.
He picked up the book, the pages starting to fall out with time, pulling it out of the bag he stored it in to preserve it and increase its longetivity. All of this however was done using his hair, he had found himself to be getting better at manipulating his hair but he had a long way to go. For one thing he was supposed to be able to grow his hair a long ways away, many times his body length, but right now, he could only grow it up to about 30 centimeters, possibly because every time he tried to go beyond that, he got distracted. It was that or, well, some things for unknown reasons, no matter how simple they were, took certain amounts of time to learn and acquire no matter what one did to try to speed the process up. Analyzing things was generally the way to go though, in general.
It began to bother him not knowing such a crucial fact about the Hyena, even if it was one he had never thought about until now. His hair began moving, a literal blur of motion that gently but swiftly turned the pages, attempting to keep them straight to avoid bending and later cracking the pages. Unfortunately the text stopped just short of giving him the information he needed to know. He sighed. Some of his extra hair fell off, but at least he could rest assured he would not be going bald.
Walking out of the house, he was alarmed to see how quiet the village was. Asking around, nobody seemed to have seen the Hokage in some time, and normally one would hear if he was going travelling. Perhaps he was holed up in his office? The Hyena made a mental note to check later, by going directly to the office of the Hokage, or at least as close as he could during visiting hours, as he wished to know a few things, or many. Instead of just one or two as that would be boring.
He continued on his way, his hair managing to grow longer now. At this length he could probably pass as a “Fanta Claws”, a guy who apparently ran around on certain days giving little children presents, a convenient way indeed for parents and friends and relatives to make it secret who had really given the little brats their little trinkets that were generally turned around and used to harass those they had received the little objects from. How perverse, this human society was. His hair picked up rocks, as he walked, being able to touch the ground now, and he used the rocks to hit marks on the pavement, the stones flying through the air after being initially propelled by way of swinging, almost sentient hair.
Eventually the library came into view and the Hyena walked inside, for only the second time in his whole life. Books lined the shelves everywhere, and it seemed to him that even if the economy tanked, famine was widespread, or the Hokage and his Anbu were assassinated, it felt to him as if this massive library would stand the test of time, though maybe not a village destruction. He walked over to the area that covered biology and its ilk, and began scanning the titles, looking for something relevant. Upon finding a good looking book, and by good, useful and helpful and on topic is meant, not a physically attractive book cause if that was meant he would have grabbed a different one. His hair carefully pulled the book from the shelf and set it down on the table in front of him – he had been sitting the entire time. His growing control of the hair was certainly encouraging, the one bit of good news he had heard recently, for upon opening the book of contents, he was horrified to discover that Hyenas truly did have dens.
Having had this rather important revelation he walked back out of the library, having put the book back on the shelf where it came from first, of course, though this did mean he provoked the ire of one of the librarians, who had come rushing over to make sure everything was in its right place.
