Stab a Butt and Crush a Stick (P, Training)

Another day, another instance of training for one Gunbai Yuka as he walked towards the training grounds he had used the day before when learning his new techniques. Mentally he had went over his decision as to why he was out and about training today, besides the obvious being that it was in fact his job to keep up with such routines if he didn’t want to be either scolded, taken out of service or more than likely simply killed. In all honesty, it had been a simple action of pinching himself and wincing slightly that had brought the action about.

Gunbai was squishy.

Not in the sense that he was fat, he wasn’t. While he did indulge in the occasional fatty food once in a while he always made sure to burn off the extra calories later seeing as that was what his parents made him do back when he was a child seeing as they wanted a son and not a beach ball. No, he meant squishy as in the classification of a fighter. Somebody with a high damage output or perhaps utility, but ultimately frail and prone to being taken out if forced into a one on one fight. This didn’t bode well for him, considering that most of his “utility” wasn’t something that he could use often as despite the fact that his reserves were growing freakishly large for somebody of his skill level his stamina simply wasn’t up to snuff on most days. Most hits he took in the line of fire normally would end up bruising him for a couple of days, although that never happened because he was smart enough to heal himself before that would happen, although it always served as a reminder that he was in fact a fragile human being in a world where people could casually break through steel as though it were nothing. It freaked him out and thus motivated him to change.

Today, he would perform a taijutsu workout. While he hadn’t exactly been neglecting the area of expertise, far from it in fact compared to other areas where he had simply not learned a single technique from them due to the the fact that he was currently focusing on the “triad” of nin tai and gen, he was learning far more techniques in the other fields and he had a nagging feeling that this was the reason why he was developing into this sort of a ninja. While he didn’t want to become some jack of all trades who could never get ahead because he refused to specialize, he also was afraid of becoming a glass cannon who would disintegrate upon a single hit. Blah, he was exaggerating but the point came across in his head as he stood once again in the training area he had worked in about a week ago, noting the small indentations left in the earth still from when he had been working on the Moving Earth Core technique. Was kind of weird to put into perspective all the things he had done in such a short amount of time. It would almost be humbling if he was the kind of person to be that easily moved.

Again, he was distracted. Clearing his thoughts of nothing but his current task, he opened up his drawstring bag that he always carried on him, pulling out his ninja guide before flipping through into the taijutsu section before perusing through some easier techniques. Once again he chuckled slightly as he read through some of the easier ones, somebody somewhere was laughing outrageously at the techniques they had thought up and managed to pass off as an actual technique for ninja. Come on, this couldn’t be anything more than a kancho. 1000 Years of Death? Sure, that might be what it feels like at the moment but it certainly wasn’t all that harmful. Of course, that ignored the bit with the added kunai but he wasn’t currently in possession of one so that was null and void. Ah well, it would still be another technique to add towards his ever growing roster.

Doing a few basic stretches to limber himself out, he went over the steps to the incredibly basic technique, if one could even call it that. One hand seal, the tiger, was all it took along with bending down in order to target the...well, you know what was being targeted. After that all it took was a yell and the technique was finished. It was so simple that he barely considered it a technique, but still forced himself through the motions multiple times, feeling a slight burn in his hips after all of the squats he was performing in quick succession. Well, if anything Gunbai felt even more like an idiot.

Stopping his sense of self worth from diminishing any further, Gunbai ceased his current antics before returning to his book. He had come to the training ground to train, not practice the butt stabbing method. Now, what kind of technique would he attempt to figure out next? The obvious bit was that it would be a taijutsu one, but what type? A kick? Perhaps some sort of punching technique? He considered his current arsenal of techniques and what they entailed. Mostly they had to do with his hands, what with the Discipline Technique, along with Aerial Strip and the newly learned 1000 Years of Death. As for things such as his legs, he merely had the Leaf Hurricane at the moment. Now, while for some this might prompt him to learn a technique utilizing his legs next he felt that instead it would be more prudent to learn something that he seemed to already have a grasp on, that being a hand or arm related taijutsu technique. In the end he had a feeling that it wouldn’t impact the learning process that much, but it wouldn’t hurt for him to test it out himself.

While there was no subsection for taijutsu techniques in the way Gunbai was approaching it, Gunbai eventually found what he was looking for in the way of the Iron Claw Technique. While the purpose of the technique was to grip onto the face of the target and then squeeze so that one could provide discomfort to the intended target, he could find a couple more uses for it. Perhaps the beginning of a grappling move? Or maybe, he thought, to be used in order to crush an object with strength not normally obtainable. Hmm, that was a thought. Maybe he could go ahead and try it out that way, seeing as at the moment there were no willing faces for him to practice squeezing on? Ugh, that came out wrong.

Taking a few moments to look at his surroundings, he eventually settled on a healthy looking tree branch before knocking it down with a well placed chakra scalpel, again noting the sudden dip in his reserves as he did so. Again, he would need to remember that in times where he was stuck in a drawn out battle, he would need to find ways to widen his reserves if he were to pull off some of his more powerful techniques. Once more, he was off track. He wondered if he did in fact have some sort of attention deficit disorder, the amount of times that he caught himself lost in thought was rather disturbed.

Continuing onwards, Gunbai arranged his hands in the grip shown with the technique, as apparently the positioning was paramount to the amount of force being distributed. How the hands got there wasn’t exactly the issue so much as how the force was applied, so he supposed that one could perhaps thrust their hands forward to do so and still be fine. Preferring to simply do it as is, he gave himself a moment before squeezing down hard. A loud crack sounded and he felt a small pinch as suddenly he had two pieces of a large branch, which fell to both of his sides quickly. A small bolt of shock ran through Gunbai as he looked down at the two halves beneath him. That had been...too easy. He had expected to simply practice his grip on the thing, not shatter it to pieces! Feeling a small bit concerned, Gunbai made his way over to the tree whose limb he had acquired a few minutes earlier before deciding to experiment. Drawing upon all of his strength he let out a roar and struck with full force, a single Leaf Hurricane kick striking the bark. He was rewarded by a sharp pain in his leg, which he winced at, along with a brief dust cloud as said bark shattered underneath his leg revealing the layers below. Staring at the indentation he tried to gauge just what that meant for him. He could probably shatter concrete with that kind of strength when using techniques, based on the way the plant now had a rather ugly mark in its side now. The notion threw him off balance and suddenly Gunbai didn’t really want to train as much anymore. Is this what he had become in so little time?

While it sounded a bit silly to him Gunbai decided he would take the rest of the day off on account of identity crisis, deciding he would take the rest of the day to simply relax, maybe read an entertaining book later. He took one last look at the dent he had made before packing his book away in his bag and slinging it over his back. Perhaps he would avoid the plants today in order to avoid calling up this moment. Yep, that was feasible.
