Cleaning Up Your Nonsense Mess (P, Mission)
Sat Dec 31, 2016 11:46 pm
- Spoiler:
Mission Name: Scrapman
Rank: E
Type: Collection
Character Requirements: Genin
Mission Location: Training Grounds
Word Count Requirements: 1000
Repeatable? Yes
NPC? No
Reward: 500 Ryo
Task:
The training grounds need cleaning as not every shinobi is diligent enough to clean up after themselves. Due to this a local blacksmith has decided to hire an aspiring Genin or even a team of Genin to go out and collect all the scrapped kunai, shuriken, ninja wire, or anything left in the training grounds. The shinobi will also have to take out new wooden targets to replace the old, dilapidated ones that currently infested the training grounds. On average there are about 13 training grounds per major village and 9 for minor villages. Note: Hidden purpose behind this is to get the shinobi out and about learning the layout of the village and communicating with the people of the village.
Gunbai shivered slightly in the wind, glad for his jacket that morning as he stumbled around training ground number six, hunting around for bits and pieces of metal around him as per his mission requirements. Having woken up early in order to recieve his mission and get it done as quickly as possible Gunbai had been less than thrilled that today he would be performing a task labeled under the rank of E, also known as menial work with little pay. True, it was still money and supposedly job experience, but Gunbai wasn’t too sure about that. According to the mission desk and said copy of his task stowed away in his drawstring bag this little shindig had been payed for by some no name blacksmith who apparently was desperate enough for supplies to ask for a mission to be filed for the collection of any old ninja tools. Really, what could he expect to be making with materials like that? While normally that would indeed be filed aside as a request not worthy of a mission apparently the offices needed some grunt work in the form of placing some new training dummies in the training grounds and as such combined it into one request, leaving Gunbai where he was at the moment.
"Blegh, this sucks.” Gunbai mumbled to himself as he spotted another bent out of shape kunai, cringing at it’s cold feel due to the chilly air before throwing it into his bag which he had been supplied for in this mission. Hearing the clink as it hit the rest of the deformed metal, he looked around for perhaps any other sign of metals. Already he had put up some new straw dummies, which stood much prouder than the ones which were there previously, but he had yet to find any more than a few kunai and shuriken in the area. Surveying the area around him closely eventually caused him to notice a slight reflection in an area between two trees, which was revealed to be a length of ninja wire upon closer inspection. Really? Gunbai couldn’t believe somebody had just left this lying around. That was just asking for some random person to go in and have an accidental decapitation. That, or perhaps some sort of bird mutilation. Point being, it was a bad idea and Gunbai couldn’t believe the stupidity of somebody for doing such a thing. Ah well, perhaps that was one of the reasons that the office had him doing this kind of work. It would certainly be a hassle if somebody died because of carelessly such as this.
Doing another sweep of the area and finding it clear, Gunbai grabbed the set of straw dummies he had set aside earlier before his scrap foraging before finally set out towards the last location on his map, the very area that he himself trained in. He noted that for some odd reason upon his arrival that there was little to no signs of anybody else training in the area, for he couldn’t see any recent footsteps or signs of activity besides his own and the animals. Maybe there was some sort of omen against it? Perhaps people just liked the other grounds better? Ah well, who cared. More room for him, anyways. Cursory surveillance of the area showed no signs of any ninja tools lying about, while at the same time he found once again that there were no training dummies in sight. He supposed that would be for granted, as he was yet to see one in the entire time that he was training within this area. Perhaps that was the reason for the lessened activity? Pushing these thoughts aside Gunbai took up the last pair of dummies before placing them a good ten feet apart from each other in a barren piece of the field, providing an optimal area for their placement. Just to check their sturdiness he did a few practice kicks, noting not only that they held but the power put into each strike, an improvement from how he had been hitting in earlier times. Maybe this was a sign that he was indeed getting stronger after all.
Deciding that since Gunbai was already in his training grounds he might as well get a little bit of his own personal work in, he pulled out his little ninja notebook before flipping to yet another dog-earred page. While he probably wouldn't be able to finish the technique on the job, it wouldn't hurt to get a head start. The Chakra Absorption Technique's theory was based upon using one's chakra in order to siphon it away from others, balancing out the energy used to do so to create a surplus in oneself and a deficit in the other. Quite an effective way to incapacitate an opponent if he were to say so himself, but it relied on both being able to maintain physical contact with the opponent and being able to survive in those close quarters. Of course, it probably also helped if the person who was doing said technique knew how to do it.
Moving a bit away from the dummies Gunbai put his hands out in front of him before calling chakra forth from his core. Pushing it into his veings he began to visualize them sucking in chakra, almost as though it were a void to be filled, in a similar way to how he did so with the storage displacement technique. Slowly a weak glow began to surround his hands, yet for some reason all he could feel was a coating around him and a slight drain of energy as it was uselessly wasted. Was he doing it wrong? Or maybe it was that it would only react with another person? Feeling that he had already spent too much time on this and put his things away before making a mental note to try and find somebody to test that out. Willingly of course, Gunbai wasn't into that whole kidnapping little boys scene.
Figuring that his job was now over, Gunbai gave a nod to the Pine of Progress, tracing his hands across it’s damaged grooves before setting out of the grounds, clinking bag thumping against his leg every couple of seconds. Ignoring the looks sent to him by the general populace as he walked by, to be honest he was a bit too busy to care about anybody else’s opinions, he eventually reached the mission office before heading into the drop off area for missions which required certain items to be delivered. Finding the place to be mostly empty save for some other genin with some sort of scroll he approached the second desk, heaving the bag of metal onto the desk before pulling out the mission scroll from his drawstring.
“Gunbai Yuka, reporting in from an E-Rank mission.” The attendant looked at him for a second before nodding, taking the bag and scroll behind the counter and walking away for a few seconds. About a minute later the attendant returned with a small envelope which he slid across the counter before returning to his work, seemingly done with him at the moment. A bit annoyed with the lackluster treatment from the desk worker Gunbai walked out of the office before opening his envelope, finding 500 ryo in funds along with another envelope inside, this one smaller and in a light pink. He opened it up.
“Expect Part Two to begin shortly, make sure you’re prepared. Fiora.” That was all, each word written in fancy script. Who was Fiora? What was part two? The wheels in Gunbai’s head began to turn until he eventually came up with his answer. The only was one could deliver a message through the mission office would be somebody affiliated with it. As far as Gunbai knew, only one person would have the motivation to do such a thing. That meant only one thing.
His chunin testing was back on.

ah the wonders of google drive, when it doesn't tell you your document never saved and you lose half your story before having to rewrite it. Good times. Anyways, the edits are in!
