Uniting a classroom

A new day a new task ahead, was what Sanae was thinking as she got ready for her day at this wonderful morning. This day's task was to substitute a teacher at the academy for a day that had to take a quick leave because of family reasons. Sometimes one could not decided on when something happened and so Sanae, a young Genin got the chance do go to her own old academy and spend a day training some Academy Students, not only training but teaching them. This was kind of an amazing thought of her standing in front of a room full of children just like her that wanted to become Genin some day in the future. To have the chance to leave an impact on those guys was just an amazing thing. So she was in high spirits as she left the house that faithful day packed with the usual lunch her mother prepared and full of excitement. She hummed along her steps skipping a little as she was almost levitating towards the old school building. It was so nice to walk into these doors, not as a student, but as part of the teaching body. While she was walking through the halls directing her steps towards the teacher's office the floors were still empty. Students were to arrive in about an hour, plenty of time to prepare. At least this was what she thought.

So now she was knocking on the door to the office and one of her old teachers opened the door and let her in. With a friendly smile she was greeted by Mizumori Takeo, a teacher she had listened to on various occasions. He was nice and very relaxed around others giving students confidence and always demanded this kind of special respect, that one could always find in natural born leaders. "Good Morning Kaguya-san, nice to see you again, I heard you were helping out today?", he said smiling down at her and she nodded agreeing: "Yes I have been send to teach class 3-1 today, I hope I will do everything just as according to the plan." He took her along to the teacher's desk where he handed her the book to check the attendance and the teaching plan for today. She looked at the subjects she was going to teach and it seemed like she could pretty much accomplish saying something about each of the subjects given to her in this table. There was a test about throwing physics and someone was to hold a presentation on Chakrapoints and for afternoon classes there was a little sports competition with a neighbouring class. She took the notes the teacher had left her and ten looked at Mizumori. "Thank you Mizumori-sensei", she bowed down to him and he petted her head gently like she was used to. "It is about time you drop the sensei prefix, we are colleagues now Kaguya-san, have good luck on your first day." She smiled and nodded. It was about time to go so she turned to walk towards her classroom.

As she opened the door there was one young man already sitting there, he had his head in a book and just gave her a short glance as she walked inside. Sanae smiled at him and greeted him nicely: "Morning." He nodded shortly and then watched as she sat down at the teacher's desk and started setting up her plans and opened the book with the attention record. As the time moved on the classroom got more and more filled with students and she watched them sit down, watched their interactions with one another. Who was teasing who and who was singled out from the group. On a side pad she made pencil notes about the behaviour she encountered and already now it felt more like it was a test given to her and not the students. She took a deep breath and as the bell rang and the room fell kind of quiet she addressed the classroom: "Good Moring students, my name is Kaguya Sanae, your teacher has taken a leave of absence and for the time being I will be your substitute for today. We will be following your schedule just as it is planned that included the test of throwing physics, the speeches for your chakra analysis class and then take the preparation for today afternoons special sports event against class 3-2. The plan says this first hour is to be devoted to social activities, discussing problems you have amongst each other and with teachers so is there anything I ought to know?"
After her small speech the room fell silent. You could hear the chirping of a cicada but none of the children responded. One could say they were perfectly right, but you would have to be stupid to do so. Then she proceeded doing at least the role call and registered that all 20 children were there to begin with. Perfect so far at least no one was missing. Then she said to them to take out papers and write done something good they had encountered being in this class and something bad and then she sat down watching them. Some were fast on their choices and some were quite indifferent. Some had stuff written down that one could marked as casual stuff or even jokes, but this was just as okay as anything else. While she was reading something current came up. It was not obvious at first but there was the Name of a boy and girl, siblings that have been ruling this classroom and both their names were often brought in contact with bad experiences inside of this classroom. Her fingers were massaging the root of her nose while she read more and more of the papers there was a dwelling of fear in this classroom since two of the top students and also the representatives were kind of keeping a strict ruling. Once in a while she spoke with some of the students but they did not seem so eager to talk about what was said in those letters because talking about it was much more difficult than writing it down anonymously.

Then in the following lesson she started to pass around the sheets for the test repeating over and over that only the things on the sheets were allowed on the table. The students cleared their tables and then she walked up to her desk again. "You all have 30 minutes to solve this test. If you do not understand the given questions you may come forward to my desk and ask about it, but I will not provide any solving help. If I spot one of you getting help via cheating which means reading off answers from papers, desks or other students sheets I will be marking your test a failure and you will have to stand in the back of the classroom facing the wall for the rest of the time. This will spear me a lot of time I would have put in correcting your tests so feel free to try", she said then letting them start while she passed through the lines of desks looking at the students. Most of them concentrated on their test as one would expect from them. Very delighting or so to speak because it never really was a joy to mark a test as failed but sometimes this was the lesson to be learned. When she passed by the trouble couple she could clearly see the girl copying of off her brother this was when she touched her shoulder. "I believe we are done here", a gentle smile on her lips she took away the test sheet from her. "Please young lady stand up and face the wall", she said to her. This was when she started complaining and shouting. She would not do it she was not a real teacher. She could not make her stand such a long time and what not. But the Kaguya was having none of it rebuffing all her screams and struggles she placed her facing the wall at the back of the classroom once again reassuring no threats about parents or what so ever would even make her flinch.

After that there were no more incidence concerning cheating, just peacefully quiet students doing their work. Sanae was kind of proud this sometimes kind of radical treatment was the kind of thing needed to proof a point. Also getting them to quietly listen to their classmates speeches about chakra was not so difficult anymore after they feared the blade of punishment above their heads. Or at least the threat that punishment was not only empty words to her. So even if it bored them to death they would sit quietly on their seats listened and some even took notes. Sanae herself was looking at the presentations they were all pretty well thought and nicely done. After this and a short break there the preparations for the afternoon activities were to take place. This was when she stepped in front of the class again and looked at them. "Well will have a special capture the flag game today you guys versus another class. Since you are 20 we will divide the class into seven teams of about three people. One of the teams will contain the one of you, you all collectively choose as your leader. Remember a leader is not always the most popular, not always the strongest and not always the one who never makes mistakes. Most important is, that you can trust him or her with the decisions he or she makes. I take nominations for such persons. Then we will cast a vote about this and then he or she will choose a bodyguard that will be their team partner in being the final line protecting your flag and coordinating your movements on the training ground. So choose wisely", she then leaned back and let them make nominations for the possible leaders. One of them was indeed one of the always troubling siblings the male one who had proofed to be quite smart on his test and his physical exams were exceeding expectations sure, but he did not really seem like a team player. His strongest opponent the quite opposite taken form in a quiet and calm smart guy who was apparently more than acing any test they were given. He was notoriously known for even sometimes correcting teachers, but he had also never shown any ability a leader would display. Now, as the platform had taken a shift he was standing up and his way to just appeal to his fellow students to not give into the fear of their classmates wrath was kind of amazing to witness. Step by step he was gaining the majority of the votes and at the middle of the prep he had been chosen the leader.

The person he chose to protect the flag side by side with him was, his opponent, because he knew and valued his physical abilities. After that it was all only sitting back and watching all the while they prepared their teams by putting them together and marking their tactic on a map they had been provided to aid in preparations. Sanae was watching in silence taking notes about the student's behaviour and seemed kind of proud, although they weren't really her students it felt nice to see them develop a plan together to full fill their mission, even if it was just a fake one and the enemy was not really an enemy. At the end they were full of fighting spirit as they walked to their lunch break, together as one unit and not as a few students taking a break. This was the end of her day. She went to the teacher's office, had her lunch there with some of the other teachers and told them about her day and how amazing she felt about it. As for the activities later she was not included as a teacher because this event was to be overlooked by Chuunin or at least long time Genin so that if an accident occurred quick and efficient help could be provided, but she was indeed allowed to watch from one of the observing stations put around. There she could oversee her class not only holding their ground but in her ear a little transmitter made her able to listen in on their conversations and they were working perfectly together. This new found feeling of unity was then rewarded by capturing the other team's flag and leader. Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks while she listened to their happy cheers and as she was walking off the school grounds she could see them, patting each other's backs and heading for the showers. "Today I saw a vision of tomorrow, keep up the good work", she had written on the board of their classroom for them to find when they returned to get their bags.
