Genjutsu Release Mastery
The day was harsh and cold as she traveled north. A bitter, freezing wind howled by, echoing eerily across the canyon walls. She was currently traipsing through a rocky, mountainous area, and Amaterasu Akari, former genin of Suna, was beginning to wish that she had taken a different path as opposed to this one. Her thin desert clothes did little to stop the bitter cold from approaching, nor surrounding her, and she felt regret that she hadn't invested in any thicker clothing. Wordlessly, she pulled an additional cloak out of her pack and slung it over her shoulders. Having three layers was better than two, but only marginally. She yawned slightly, tired from the shenanigans of the last few days, and winced when the blinding sunlight pierced her eyelids. Damn this cold, she thought to herself as she proceeded. It would be the death of her. That or the exhaustion. But forget that- she had work to do. The genjutsu release technique was one she already knew, technically, but it was a technique that she needed to master for it to truly be effective. It only required one hand seal- the tiger seal- though she figured that if she learned how to do it WITHOUT seals, she'd be at least (marginally) more safe if she was ever struck by a paralyzing genjutsu of some sort. First step, she practiced feeling her chakra flow. Once she was familiar with it, she began to make it vibrate under her skin. Little sparks appeared as she did so- was this how one created lightning release? It was a good idea to remember that for later, when she would inevitably have to learn the lightning affinity in order to access her clan's kekkei genkai- light release. And, well, the golden eye, but she had no idea how to achieve that from where she was. She figured that it would activate when the right time came- or something like that. That was usually how those doujutsu type things activated anyway, wasn't it? Suddenly, she stopped her chakra flow entirely, halting in its tracks. She managed to hold it for a few seconds before releasing the whole tapped dam at once. The chakra raged through her system ferociously, slightly burning her tenketsu points. Heat from her fire affinity caused the temperature to rise uncomfortably inside her own skin, despite the harsh cold temperature. Yeah, that would definitely stop a genjutsu in its tracks, assuming she had enough chakra for the untapped dam part. It was only after a few minutes when the warmth from her weird genjutsu release interpretation that she realized a crucial detail- she did it without hand seals on the first try. Wait, that was it? The whole thing she'd been psyching herself up and over about was really that easy? She shrugged to herself. Perhaps some things like this couldn't be helped? If this technique came to her this easily, perhaps others would be easy like this as well. It was worth a shot.

Storage Displacement
Amaterasu was rifling around in her father's jutsu pouch- she had already learnt five techniques from it- fire style: piercing darts, exploding flame shot, phoenix fire, great fireball, and the demon lantern technique. There were four more techniques in there that she had yet to learn, however- one was called fire halberd, one was called great fire annihilation, and one was called great fireball shower. She scratched the side of her head, looking at the last one. It wasn't a fire affinity technique- in fact, it appeared to be a basic space time jutsu called 'storage displacement'. Supposedly, upon the formation of the hand seals, it could store approximately fifteen items in a little pocket dimension created by the user. It sounded infinitely useful for carrying around her valuables- namely her scrolls, and her ryo. She reached down, grabbed the paper thing by the teal string wrapped around it, and pulled it out of the reddened leather bag. The scroll fit in the palm of her hand, but once she unfurled it, the thing was approximately half the size of her leg. It was chock full of chakra diagrams, illustrations on the tenketsu points, as well as general theory of chakra, physics, and the art of space time. Space time techniques seemed to require lots of mathematics and prior planning. The paper crumpled slightly in her grasp, which wasn't that strong. It was made out of desert parchment- well, papyrus, and it seemed to be quite old. Hopefully she wouldn't tear it by accident... Amaterasu studied the scroll closer, reading through tiny paragraph upon tiny paragraph of intense calculations that she could barely comprehend. They certainly didn't teach her THIS in the ninja academy. Her father had been into it, however. She would have recognized his handwriting anywhere, and this was certainly his. Her eyes itched for a moment. The young Akari shook her head and closed the scroll, tying the string around it once more and placing it back into its rightful place.
The technique she had intended to learn and had selected out of a possible four had two hand seals- rat and dog. Both she had recognized intimately well, as she had used both of them with some of her fire affinity techniques. However, none were quite in this order. She formed the rat seal a little awkwardly, fixing it for around three minutes before moving on to dog. She was really better at doing them faster, but she had to get out of her comfort zone if she ever wanted to learn anything. Or something like that. Once satisfied that she had both hand seals down, she moved on to doing them one after the other as fast as she could- and if she was allowed to brag for a minute, that was pretty damn fast. Once she had them forwards, she tried going through the said seals backwards, just for kicks. Okay, maybe not for kicks. The action genuinely helped her to learn the seals better, and that was essential whenever you were learning a technique as volatile as one coming from the space time classification. One wrong move, and she'd be sent to an alternate dimension, or would teleport into a wall, accidentally killing her. She'd never actually met anyone who had done any of the above two things, but the horror stories ran rampant in Suna, especially when one had a father who specialized in the art of space time techniques. She was going through the seals in special patterns as she ruminated back on her past so, and she was getting in around one hundred and twenty to one hundred and fifty seals in per minute. It was pretty damn fast, if she said so herself, but she knew she could be faster if she trained specifically to increase her speed... She shook her head to dislodge her loose thoughts. Right now she had one goal, and it wasn't fantasizing about the future. It was learning a damn jutsu.
Finally, it was time to actually get on with the damn thing. She had the jutsu theory down pat, knew the hand seals like the back of her, well, HAND, and while she had studied the theory and tenketsu diagrams from the chart so kindly provided in the scroll, there was no teacher quite so unforgiving nor one that let her learn so easily as experience itself. She took in a deep breath, as if trying to steady herself from all the possible things that could go wrong when attempting this thing, and pulled out a single kunai. She placed it on the ground in front of her and sat down. Channeling her chakra carefully into her arms, and trying her hardest not to infuse it with fire chakra, It was successful, so once she was done with THAT fun part, she formed the hand seals she'd been practicing in a fashion so repetitive it had become annoying. Her hands light up with vibrant, orange chakra. Was this what her chakra looked like when it was in its purest form? A pleasant shade of orange? Quicker than she could react to, the kunai glowed a bright white, breaking apart into little soft orange particles. These particles glowed in the air for a moment, scattering about and then dispersing. She put her palm down on the area where the kunai once rested. There was nothing there. Alright. That part had went off nicely- no explosions or lost limbs in sight. Now for the tricky part... She formed the rat and dog hand seals again, and instinctively, as her arm lit up a pleasant shade of orange, she reached out into the open air. Fluttering particles coalesced around her palm, moving around counterclockwise and settling into her open palm. When she closed her fist, the orange particles came together and formed a kunai. It was completely identical to the one she had just stored. The young Akari blinked. This technique would definitely come in handy...

Golden Eye V1
The day in the rocky, frigid canyon had gotten slightly warmer as the sun rose higher, though not by much. The two layers she possessed felt a lot more comfortable at this stage, like they were made for this weather- which they, of course, were not. Amaterasu Akari proceeded to walk forwards, jutsu scroll bag slung comfortably over her shoulder. Sun beating on the back of her neck, cloaks fluttering in the wind, it felt like nothing could go wrong. Of course, she'd have no idea of this, but things would proceed to go very, very wrong very, very quickly. The first sign that something was wrong was the complete silence that rang through the air. There were no chirps of birds, no scuttling of insects, nor slithering of snakes. It was as if a void was present for the wildlife in the area. She thought that it might have been because of the cold, or perhaps because of the harsh sunlight, and proceeded down the canyon trail as usual. After all, she wouldn't know the lifestyles and habits of the local animals and insects. It could have been normal, for all she knew.
What was NOT normal, on the other hand, was the fireball that came zooming out from a rock- which faded away. A genjutsu? Damn it! She dashed out of the way on the side, using the surface walking technique to scale the rock cliff of the canyon roughly ten feet into the air. The fireball passed right by her shoulders, and she felt the bare skin on her neck crack and dry slightly from the sheer heat of the fire blast. That was a close one... There was one ninja, as far as the young Akari could tell. She couldn't see or hear any more in the area, which was a good thing. She just needed to beat this bastard and find out who or what he was working for. She flew through two hand seals- horse and tiger- before spitting out from behind her lips a massive fireball. She was attempting the Great Fireball technique. It extended hugely and roared outwards at a breakneck speed, but somehow, the son of a bitch managed to avoid it. A body flicker! A kunai came flying from his hand, and it was only her keen reaction time that allowed her to shift a few inches upwards to avoid being skewered through the skull. What else could she do...? The great fireball had left quite a dent in her chakra reserves. But... There were still lower level techniques she had. Perhaps a clever application of one of those said techniques would save her hide in this fight. Well, or so she hoped. She dashed away at a diagonal angle, knowing that the stranger would follow, and behind her back, formed a single hand seal- tiger. This technique, the fire style: piercing darts jutsu, created six little needles of pure flame that surrounded her. Well, only five of them did.
One dart was hidden literally up her sleeve, only a millimeter away from touching and singing her bare skin. Once the stranger came within thirty feet of her, or ten meters, she launched three. One came to his left shoulder, one came to his right lung, and one was zooming strait towards his head. He dodged them easily, eyeing the two she had left. Those went to his legs, and a simple side step was all that it took to avoid her attack. Nine meters. Eight meters. Seven meters. Six meters... Once he was only five meters away from her, she launched her sixth, hidden dart straight towards his stomach. It hit. It lodged straight through and went out the other side, cauterizing the cavity she left in his body as she did so. The scent of cooking meat and smoke lingered in the air, and he dropped from the cliff like a rock. He hit the ground with a sickening crack, and his legs and left arm were bent at awkward angles that hurt to look at. He twitched slightly, moaning to himself as he did so. Good, he was still alive. That meant she could ask him some questions...
She scaled down the cliff, channeling her inner energy to her feet so as not to fall inelegantly like her opponent just had. She was about a meter from the ground when she dropped off and landed on the canyon floor silently. She jogged over to the man, flicked a kunai out of her sleeve, and proceeded to sit with her full body weight on his chest. She leaned into the throwing knife, pushing the edge against his bare neck. The man's eyes were wide- he looked to be in his twenties. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and was adorned primarily in grays and muted blues. "Who are you?" she inquired. "Who do you work for?" he gulped and shook his head slightly, and moaned in pain as she leaned in further. "Tell me!": Amaterasu demanded. Her assailant remained dead quiet. A righteous anger enveloped her being, and she stabbed him in the arm with the knife. He screamed out loudly. She moved it back to his neck in less than an instant. "You're not dead yet," she hissed, "but I can still hurt you." he whimpered, but no feelings of regret stirred within her stomach. She didn't move, nor make any attempt to patch up his shoulder. The young Akari scowled, pushing the knife in further with surgical precision. Tears started to well up in the strangers eyes, and when she saw her reflection, she didn't recognize the look she held in her eyes. Strangely, she didn't feel any horror or disdain. It was just her job, after all- she was a ninja of Sunagakure no Sato, and she would proceed to be one until the day she inevitably died in battle. Little droplets of crimson blood began to bead at the knife's edge. He opened his mouth, but it was too late. She dug in too deep.
"T-taka!" he choked out, before he fell to the ground unmovingly. Her eyes burned, though it wasn't from tears nor the cold wind that had started to blow her way. The world around her looked sharper, more vibrant, more colorful- and she could look directly into the sun without her eyes burning with it. No, this must be the Akari clan's famed doujutsu- the Golden Eye. She knew of two stages- her father had unlocked the second, though she knew not how. This must have been the first stage.
She laid the body on the ground and stood up, wiping the bloodied knife on his clothes. He wouldn't be needing them anymore. No one really cared how the dead looked, anyways. She flew through some hand seals- the ones required for the demon lantern technique- and cremated the body with the six exploding heads. She managed to make them not explode by providing less chakra than usual. Nothing but a pile of foul smelling ash remained when she was done with him, and eventually, once a howling wind blew by and scattered the ashes, she decided to move on. Who was this 'Taka'? she vaguely wondered. Did they have a base around here? A village? She scratched the side of her head in deep thought, brushing her cinder filled hair behind her ear. More food for thought, she supposed. Perhaps she could do some research on it once she had arrived at the nearest town? The young Akari really didn't like not knowing, especially when that 'not knowing' resulted in an attempt on her life. She stretched hugely, and dusted the ash off. It was everywhere. The wind had blown it all over her clothes. A little part of her spoke up deep within her mind, amused that she was more upset by the damage to her clothing than by the act of taking another life. She promptly told it to shut up.
But, first thing was first. She needed to figure out how to deactivate her bloodline. She focused deep within herself, and found a vibrant stream of chakra channeling into her eyes. Alright, so she would just... stop it? At the thought, the steady stream of energy cut off, and her enhanced vision faded back into what she normally saw. Compared to the Golden Eye, the ordinary world seemed... Dull in color. A little grayish. She proceeded to walk forwards, slowly quickening up until she was sprinting across the canyon floor at her full, trained speed. Rocks and stuff passed her by as she traveled, the destination in her mind. What was it? Takimura? Tacomura... A sudden thought struck her like a bolt of lightning. Takamura. The village must have been the one he was referring to. Was he trying to protect it or something? She doubted they knew she was coming. It must have been a spur of the moment thing... Or so she had hoped. If there were organized plots on her life this far away from her homeland, she had bigger things to worry about. Unconsciously, chakra flooded to her eyes, which were illuminated by a bright gold color. She saw the resident chakra of various scuttling animals, and even her own soft orange color when she looked down at her chest. Amaterasu shook her head of her rebel thoughts. Knowing that there were people in Takamura who had potentially tried to assassinate her, or at least tried to kill her with no good reason, did not sit well with the girl. No, it was better if she took the long way around, and tried to find out where to go from there. The black market was always a good option- most of the ninja there were considerably weaker than she was, so there would be no real trouble unless she was directly challenged by a C rank or above, and those types of fighters were exceptionally rare, especially when the villages were so keen on exterminating them.
Perhaps if she worked hard enough, she'd be recognized as one of those ninja? She scratched the side of her head. Wait, becoming a criminal was a last resort. For now, she was just a missing noble- not even really a proper ninja. She channeled her fire affinity chakra to her feet, using it to stick to the canyon. She progressed skywards, noting that she had a few hundred meters left before she would arrive on top of said canyon. Besides, the clouds were starting to darken. Canyons were highly prone to flooding, so it was really in her best interest to get away as quickly as possible. She jogged up at a considerable speed, being careful to look out for gaps in the rock, cracks, and other things that might cause her to fall to a horrible, gory death. As she progressed vertically, the sun came into view, but it didn't burn her eyes. It was amazing- she could look straight at the brightest thing she had ever seen and it wouldn't even harm her anymore... Except for sunburns and whatnot, but that was a given. Looking down, she nearly stumbled. She was around halfway up the canyon face. Was this the true power of the Akari? Other than the whole solid light thing that her father had managed to do. One day, she'd manage to do something spectacular like that- one day she'd become amazing. But for now, she just needed to find a place to get out of the rain. Where could she head? Hoshigakure was nearby, she had heard, but she didn't necessarily want to enter another hidden village for a long time- besides, they might try to induct her or something creepy like that. But... there was the off chance that her father might be there. She didn't even need to enter the village for that. All she needed to do was find someone who knew their comrades, or at least someone who did things on the border and knew who entered and left the village. They would know where he went. Satisfied, she exited the canyon, determined to find her remaining family.
