Re: A Little To The Left {Village Entry}

As there was a temporary drought in missions, Guren had been placed on guard duty. The guy that normally filled in with Han had recently caught a stomach bug, and so the Chunin was asked to substitute in his place. He sat within the modest sized guard house several meters apart from the parallel building that Han sat within. The space adjacent them would be occupied by the gates themselves which granted entry to New Sunagakure; home of missing ninja, transplants, and the Black Market. Thus it was no surprise that it was frequently visited by rogue shinobi, mercenaries, and many others. Even though Sunagakure was generally accepting of who they let in despite whatever background they might have, the village still maintained expectations of how its guests should conduct themselves. The job of the gate guards was to make sure its tourists were aware of that before they were allowed entry. And it would seem as if Guren would be encountering Sunagakure's first visitor of the day.
He could be seen off in the distance, trotting along in the direction of the village gates. From the distance, his attire couldn't be made out exactly but it was clear that this person would sporting an all black attire. Murdered out, if you will. It caught Guren's eye, as the harsh rays of the sun was instantly be absorbed by such dark colored clothing so it was likely the man was feeling the ferocity of the desert heat. Unless he was truly accustomed to traveling in such an arid environment, he was likely exhausted. Thus Guren sought to expedite this process so long as the man didn't come across as a threat.
Therefore Guren grabbed ahold of the clipboard and pen upon the desk in front of him with his left hand, stood from his chair, and exited the guard post. He would wave off Han, indicating that he would handle this one. Guren took several steps outward and forward from the post, then leaned against the exterior wall of the guard house awaiting the approaching man. When this guy would see Guren, he would take note of his quad colored clothing: black, white, maroon, and gold. The underlay was a black long sleeved training shirt striped with white streaks, made up of a breathable material. A silver cuban link necklace resided on top, hanging from his neck. Over top of his training shirt was a gold loose fitting yukata cardigan, sporting maroon floral designs. Lightweight also. His pants were also dark colored yet breathable as well, equipped with numerous item pouches and a newly acquired katana which was securely draped along the backside of his waistline. When the man would finally get close and within an audible range, about 7 meters, Guren called out to him.
"Welcome. What brings you to this side of the world?" he kindly called out. "I'm going to need you name, village of origin, shinobi status, and the intent of your visit. You know, typical protocol." Guren's voice was assertive and stern, showcasing that although he may have been friendly this information was still important and required. If the man chose to defer answering any of the questions, then Guren would turn him away. That was just the way of the road. As he spoke, he grasped the pen with his right hand and hovered it over top of an empty entry section on the clipboard's contents. Again, this was a standard process for this village. Guren maintained his guard and fixated his eyes upon the stranger. After all for every 100 good noodles that made their way into Sunagakure, there was always one or two bad apples looking to show their ass. Hopefully this wasn't another of them. But if he was, then Guren would be well prepared to deal with him.

As the man approached, Guren closely watched his movement. It was evident that he had accelerated his pace when he was a further distance away. Perhaps this was out of excitement of seeing a settlement where he might be able to rest. But this brisk jog would abruptly end shortly after closing in some of the distance between himself and Guren. Suddenly the man would stop in his tracks and leap upward and towards Guren. Such an abrupt movement could easily be mistaken for hostility, and considering that Guren was the gate guard for the day he would have to treat it like a serious issue. In one swift movement he reaffirmed his left hand’s grasp upon the pencil formerly in his right hand, and he dropped his right hand to land firmly upon the hilt of his sheathed blade. He maintained a light grip on the handle of the katana, unsure if he would have to use it or not.
He was calm, yet cautious and serious. For anyone to employ such sudden movements when in the presence of an unfamiliar face was audacious. Yet Guren would refrain from responding with any additional movements unless this stranger had done anything else suspicious. But nevertheless Guren would continue with his welcome, yet instead of the previously described “kind” tone, his entire introduction had maintained assertion and sternness.
Now having a closer look at the man while he spoke, Guren instantly took notice of his eyes. Although astonished that they seemed to bear striking similarities to his own Ketsuryugan, his fascination and curiosity would not get the best of him. His mind was sharp, and so was his gaze. Although he couldn’t help but wonder who this man might be and what his background might consist of to allow him to have those eyes.
As the newly identified man, Cuervo, provided his information Guren saw to it that he memorize these details rather than hastily write them down. He had no intention of taking his eyes off the person in front of him. Besides, he could always just write it down later. Guren then offered an edged gaze at the man. “Cuervo, I am going to need your full name if you want entry into this village.” Guren responded shortly and to the point. “And there’s a lot of people that want to conduct business with the Kazekage. Just prepare that there will be a queue for you to meet with him….Oh, and I actually don’t have any water on me. Although as soon as you enter the village you will be met with kiosks and shopkeepers that should be more than willing to offer some hospitality.”

Guren listened to the empty threat from the man and raised a single brow. Once he realized that the man was serious, Guren couldn’t help but laugh. Being threatened to be turned into the Daimyo was something that meant nothing to Guren. Having come from a background of being a missing ninja, he was no stranger to operating outside of the law and jurisdiction. Hell even Sunagakure’s way of doing things wasn’t necessarily lawfully good. There were plenty of examples that exemplified Sunagakure’s outlaw nature. Additionally, Guren had yet to see the influence of Wind Country’s Daimyo since he had entered the territory and enlisted into Sunagakure. Thus offending him meant nothing to Guren unless the Kazekage had made a mention of it to him. Plus, there was always the chance that Cuervo was bluffing. How would he have any type of pull with Wind Country’s Daimyo as a missing ninja from Kirigakure? Guren scoffed at the idea of this being true, as he didn’t care either way.
Still laughing, Guren took a moment to straighten his face and regain his composure before speaking. “That is fine. Go on and tell the Daimyo and let me know what he says when you come back. I’ll be right here…with my katana.” Guren countered with a serious tone. Following this he offered an additional comment. “I hope you realize your aim here is to gain access to the village in which I guard. Thus…you’re not really in a position to bargain. You abide by the rules, and I let you in. Otherwise…keep it pushing. But I’m sure if you traveled here to negotiate with the Kazekage then surely you’ll comply with the rules. So with that….your full name?” Guren pressed on. He was beginning to lose his patience on the man who seemed as if he could come to the gates and make demands. That kind of negotiation wasn’t going to fly here.
Nevertheless when Cuervo confirmed his identity as a Chinoike, Guren was surprised. He thought he had been the last surviving member of his clan. Although his mind was going through a million different thoughts, his face remained stagnant, not showing even an ounce of interest. Assuming the man would not be the source of more nonsense Guren would nod. “Alright Cuervo Chinoike. If there is nothing else, then you may enter.” Guren confirmed. Throughout this entire process Guren remained firm in his stance. He was skeptical in allowing Cuervo to enter, but as long as he wasn’t a troublemaker all should be well.
