Modern Ninja Curriculum (wip)
Fri Jan 14, 2022 3:58 pm
The hour was waning and nightfall would rest over the already dimly lit Hoshi Acadamy library. For the last four hours Yutaru had been nestled inside the west corridors open source library. The librarian was a wrinkly old lass who was sleeping at her desk, and he crept back for some reading without any complaint.
Ever since joining Hoshigakure with the dream of becoming a ninja Yutaru had begun a metamorphosis. The Hyuuga prodigy was certainly skilled with Taijutsu, he even graduated his mother's tutelage in the Gentle Fist by fifteen. Unfortunately his mother was not an adept with chakra, so his scientist father remained the inky model for Yutaru. This proved to be a problem now, since Yutaru's methodical mindedness was largely based on outdated understandings and muddied by non ideal practices. With Yutaru's dream of mastering his skill set, he also needed to become malleable in study and master the art of receiving knowledge.
As the ninja to be slunk into the library he tried to keep all of this in mind and unloaded his wicker backpack. The basket was loaded with snacks for studying, and had two large canteens inside. Yu was determined to become smarter, stronger and better, so he expected he would need lots of nourishment while he read over the pre registration curriculum for outer aged participants.
Sitting at the desk with a collection of books Yutaru began reading with his Byakigan active. The wide range of vision allowed him to more quickly reread everything, and as his focus went from word to word his peripherals picked up the text he had just read. Chiming back every word twice in his head Yutaru read at light speed.
The first book was entitled Hoshigakure; a Rising Sun. This book was dedicated to the history of Haven Country founding a major village with the Hishigakure ninja force. A long book indeed, but it was interesting. Yutaru wasborn a Haven Country native, but as he predicted the knowledge held in the village was much more impacting than books rummaged up around the barely literate nation. Details were starkly displayed like the Queens archaic monarchal currency description; and the styling of protection utilized by the nation during those times was equally unique. While aware of some details he read in this book Yutaru picked up lots of trivia on the former monarchy Hoshigakure.
Before he carried on with the next book Yutaru wrote up a final draft of his notes. When he reread the book he planned to divulge lead topics he had noted; but first the ninja figured it would be a good time for a snack. The book reading had taken a long hour and a half with his Byakugan active, and nourishment was his best way of regaining lost chakra. Once Yu shuffled his notes to the side he ripped open the silver metallic plastic of a brined venison steak and began munching.
As the young man ripped at the meat with his front teeth his mind wandered over all he had just absorbed, and Yutaru faintly drifted off into a day dream. The young man was truly inspired by the overwhelming aspect of military warfare, and reading about the monarchy felt surreal to him. Knowing the grounds he now walked were the grounds of royal praise was a glory to Yutaru, and when he was swallowing down his first bite Yutaru began to wonder what he might learn in the next book.
The next subject of study was also very unrelated to ninja conduct, and was titled "The Red Tape of Hoshi." This book was painfully boring and served to ingrain the various laws a ninja was required to be legally aware of. Despite the neurotic nature of legal speak Yutaru managed to finish the literature in less than an hour. Most of what he read was common knowledge to people who lived in ninja supporting villages, and as a nomad Yutaru had often been faced with experiences that would teach him what ninja truly stood for. Illegal practices were outlined and every point of caution referenced one of the fifty six shinobi laws. Once Yutaru read the book he rewrote the notes he had been scribbling while reading, and prepared for another snack before the next book.

Snack time was over for Yutaru now, and he felt pretty content with himself. Besides eating a delicious assortments of donuts he had bought from the Hoshi Bakery, Yutaru was experiencing a blissful growth in empirical village etiquette. The shinobi oath carved its way throughout most all of the village that Yutaru had witnessed, and these books he read helped him understand everything more.
Once Yutaru was done eating he opened up the next book titled "Handsigns and their Seals." This book was very thick and detailed the various nuances of proper handseals. Yutaru was fully aware of all conventional hand seals, but took this book very seriously. The copyright was very recent, and Yutaru knew from the wax sealing that this knowledge was a tier above anything a non ninja might stumble across.
Madras were common amongst country folk. People who wished to become ninja would practice form handsigns and channeling their chakra, but the practice was different than the application. Yutaru was luck to have a ninja mother who taught him most basics, though her knowledge was about twenty five years outdated. This lapse in study left her teachings bare boned, and Yu always knew he could improve on his chakra control by understanding each hand seal more completely.
At the core handseals are a tool humans use to better mold and manifest their chakra. By directing flow in microscopic movements within the fingers the user is able to consciously formulate their bodies reaction to the alteration of its chakra, and produce a replicatable effect based on the contents of their chakra. The basics were certainly mastered by Yutaru, but he skipped over no part of the book as he continued reading.
All handseals are divided by certain characteristics evaluated through practice. In the past, as Yutaru was taught, these qualities were understood as mysterious. Presently however a more simple method of compartmentalization is practiced with the four classical elements as titles. Each title has a lead handsign in its trio that invokes the causal effects of chakra best, a bridge handseal that ties the previous handseals based the composition of chakra molded by the previous handseal, and finally an ascendant handseal that promotes stabilization of handseal links.
The book was incredibly difficult to read, and as the hours rolled by Yutaru found himself with a giant pile of notes. Figuring he had enough to study for now, Yutaru left the library as quietly as he had entered it. Turning out into the hallway with his wicker basket full of trash and notes, Yu headed home to rest before studying any more.

After a day of perusing the local market place Yutaru commenced to his nightly Acadamy studies. Having brought home lots of lunch meat Yutaru quickly put away his sliced deli goods before preparing for his nightly studies. Standing at his apartments counter Yu could see the clock and with an hour and a half to prepare he had enough time to move with leisure.
The paper basket was quickly emptied and Yutaru swished his hand over the counter top, clearing it off with a whoosh of wind. As the dust pile floated unto the trash bin Yutaru turned around to the ice box. This apartment didn't come with a normal freon poered refrigerator, but the ice box was constantlynrefilled by apartment maintenance workers so it worked just fine.
Pulling out the baggie filled with slices of white cheese he had just put away, Yutaru unzipped it and set the baggie down on the counter. Spinning around again Yu deftly tucked his knees and bent down to the cupboard where he kept his hard, dry salami. The thin sticks of papered meat were neatly lined up in the cold, dark space. Yu grabbed one and stood up. In a drawer under the counter Yu pulled a knife out, and started slicing thin shavings of spiced salami. The greasy red meat was forming a pile as Yu cut down the quick of the meat, and it wasn't long before he finished.
In a small lunch box Yu arranged the cheese and meats in little compartments, he didn't eat bread. With the lean supper prepared, Yu stepped into the shower. While washing his hair Yu recalled the expected studies for tonight; no handicap sparring. Dojutsu would be allowed tonight, and that meant Yutaru would be in favorable positions to catch Instructor Aku's eye.
Fresh and clean Yutaru dressed up in his usual yutaka, the flowing robe was twice worn this week but still looked clean. Yutaru didn't want to be worn down by his poncho tonight, and the robes were easily discarded in the midst of battle. As a taijutsu specialist Yutaru expected to display his potential for range in battle, and the prismatic design of his fancy yutaka made for a good distractions he pressed forward.
Once Yu was recessed he was almost ready, and slipped his boots on before loading up his wicker basket backpack for the journey. A good hour long walk to the Acadamy meant he would soon be leaving. With ten minutes to remain Yu read the itinerary for the nights training.
The schedule had been written by Instructor Aku the week before, and on in red ink the instructions were plainly written: "On this night the class will be expected to meet in the acadamy yard for attendance. Afterwords we will be participating in a 1 on 1 sparring tourney with no limits expected. Bring your best students."
Yu was expecting to win the tourney all together, but there was a strong Uchiha contender. Some punk who flunked out of class during his youth, Rey Uchiha was stronger than most in the class. Yu knew he would be his strongest opponent, and was putting together a plan for the battle as he walked along the starlit streets.

Standing around his class felt the same as usual sparring matches. Mostly young adult men, the crowd was a rough looking one. Most of the people who had joined the Swcond Chance Hoshi Acadamy had failed their initial curriculum due to a ruffian attitude; that stinky attitude filled the air as Yu was waiting for the instructor to begin.
A bunch of the class was cracking their knuckles, and flashing their Dojutsu before the match. Yu wasn't too worried about most of them. Anyone who had a long range threat wasn't nearly as fast as Yutaru, and with his Byakugan Yutaru felt confident his chakra vision would keep the edge on his side.
Yu did notice that his rival, Rey Uchiha was remarkably still. The eighteen year old man was very quiet typically, and Yutaru wasn't surprised that he wasn't flexing his Sharing an eye like Yutaru wasn't showing the Byakugan. Yu wondered if Rey had some kind of experience like he did, a former Nomad with classical study guiding them; or something else. Rey did appear very calm in the face of battle, and Yu was pressed toward discovering how the Uchuha had come to look for his second chance at the Acadamy.
Fortunately Yu wouldn't have to wait long as himself and Rey were called to be first in the tourney. The arena was a large outside mud clearing Instructor Aku had created with his Badger Den Doton jutsu, and there was plenty of clear space. The walls were unshakable by Aku's technique, and in the middle both participants would begin five meters apart.
Yu and Rey faced each other.
In his robe Yutaru looked confident for the battle, standing at the ready point in his Gentle Step stance. Pivoting at the shoulders Yutaru leaned his leading left hand out, the Hyuugas open palm knife edged and facing the sky. With his neck turned to his opponent Yutaru held his weight at his hip by bending his right knee and leaning his center of momentum in his lower halves center. The Hyuugas left leg was sticking out as his right held most of his positioning at the knee, allowing Yutaru access to an incredibly fast front kick.
The pale Byakugan was lit up inside of Yu's skull, and he was watching his opponent Rey. The Uchiha was wearing a red blazer, and as he prepared himself for battle by closing his eye Yutaru wasn't impressed. It seemed clear that Rey planned on using Genjutsu against Yutaru, and the Hyuuga readied his mind for an attack.
When the instructor declared the two to ready, neither moved and the battle promptlybegan. As Yu expected Rey began flooding his Sharing an eye with chakra for a genjutsu, but Yu was ready. While Rey was close eyed, Yu was Calculating the distance between Reys eye height and Yutarus front forward foot. As Rey expended the chakra to open his sharingan and catch Yu in a genjutsu, the Hyuuga flipped his front foot into the air. The obstruction of his foot blocked the trigger, and Yutaru blasted his left palm forward. A Vacuum blast expelled outward and toward Rey.
The Uchuha dodged it with a swirling display of acrobatics, giving Yutaru the freedom to string together a series of handseals. Rey threw several shrunken at him from high above the ground, buy Yu's speed was superior; the Hyuuga clapped his hands and a giant wave of air flooded the space before him. The shrunken flew to the ground, and the sphere shaped missile of air collided into Rey.
Yu thought he had the chance to subdue Rey, but a poof of smoke filled the air. Rey had substituted himself with a small cut of lumber, and as the paper pinned log fell to the ground Yutaru was searching for Rey.
The Uchiha ha decried underground, and Yutaru hadn't seen him. As Rey flew upward to grab Yu by the ankle the ground rumbled below, a sign of inexpensive by the jutsu caster. Yutaru leapt up into the air off his back foot. The robe of Yutaru came unloose from his belt. Soaring downward Yutaru redid the Great Breakthrough handseals and clapped his hands.
When the airborne missile erupted into the air Rey dug himself back into the ground, just like Yutaru had expected. With just a fraction of a second left to formulate a plan Yu quickly went over what he knew to expect when he landed.
Rey certainly would try to leap from the ground again. Flying downward almost 5 meters Yu had just enough time to throw his knee up. The technician flew towards the ground with his right knee pointing forward. When Rey sprung from the ground to lunge after the Hyuugas chakra signature he was faced with a cold nap.
Yutau Hyuuga put the Uchiha right to sleep and ended the match in under a minute. The Acadamy student walked to the Acadamy Insteuctor, virtually unharmed and leaving his former opponent in the actual dirt.

For many months Yutaru carried out his Acadamy studies. By day he would practice his martial arts or study ninja code, and by night he put his practice to the test. Eventually he was promoted to the rank of Fledlging in the Acadamy which meant he had greater access to the ninja library and Yutaru was begining to be looked at for personal merit graduation to genin. Life was really shaping up for the young man who was once a wanderer.
During his daytime studies Yutaru was often reading scrolls, a higher up from the simple book pages he once turned. Some of these roll out scrolls were often on loan from the Heart of Hoshigakure's military officials. Yutaru was being looked at for specific service.
Despite his lack of Rank Yutaru was permitted to submit some analysis of the hoshizora enzyme found inside of rare mountain lotus'. Using his Byakugan Yutaru isolated a rna enzyme formation that was crucial for maintaining the acidity of rejuvenation tanks, and he had sent this to NOVA. The high grade military legion found value to his work and sought for him to play in the Rose Cross of Hoshigakure, a Medical Unit of Haven Country.
This kept Yutaru going like the cold day air of a freshly frozen mismountain breeze. The fledgling ninja was growing at an exponential pace every few weeks he would procure some seeds for analysis, but his life passion was held tight to his chest. Perhaps too tightly to his heart in these studious moments.
Yu was growing ever more dedicated to the village, and after learning the various practices and shinobi codes he needed to be sworn as a ninja for Hoshigakure before he strived to one day provide his knowledge to the world. Yu expected one day he could revolutionize medical practice with these findings, but first he had to master folding his Yutaka before class.
No kindness were given to Yutaru in the acadamy and he struggled with some classes despite his prodigal talent. Easy to nod and dwell on something he didn't understand, Yutaru was classed as solitary Unit, best fit for subterfuge or trained as a technician.
Yutaru wasn't yet sure where his talents would take him, and instead freshened himself with the Gentle Fist. Staying in Hoshi he was given free access to the Hyuuga Dojo. Yu became a day and night member of the community, and was well respected among the young adults. With a strong leaning for grappling and elbow strike Yutaru was messy in the arena, but his improbable striking was effective.
Outside the Dojo Yu was often found meditating and mastering the air of cultivating chakra. The Hyuuga had always been physically aware of each chakra pool in his body, but with handsign Mastery he began to truly understand how to handle the chakra. With practice he learned the Substitution Technique, and could Body Flicker with just a few quick flicks of his robed fingertips.
While mastering the control needed for Henge Jutsu Yutaru discovered his natural Affinity for wind whule in the Acadamy library late ate night. As he held his two hands in the Bird form, practicing maintaining chakra near his throat where the smoke for his Henge originated suddenly Yutaru felt a strong gust come up through his throat. A sudden shot out a loud bellow of smoke came from his mouth. Wind filled the air around his mouth, flinging books all over the well kept hovel in a smokey mess.
Never giving up Yu cleaned his mess up, and furthered honed his skill. With time Yutaru easily picked up the skill of one handed sealing. Dog to rat to dragon and ever possible combination were Memorized with touch to him. Yutaru was truly in touch with his spiritual side, and exhibition for the arts came easily for him. The Hyuuga even easily learned some Fuuton techniques for his skillset.
Unfortunately he wasn't so studious with memorizing formations. Perhaps his side tracked mind with the hoshizora enzyme was too strong for him, but Yutaru increasingly failed to perform well in a team. He often acted outside of formation, or flexed on his team with out of ordinary conduct. Once Yutaru sand blasted his own team mate to trick his mentor into believing the transformation. While it worked in that moment, Yutaru was considered an A-Class Fledglining. When graduation would come he would need to master some of his formation.
Yu knew what was holding him back, and laid off stretching his wits so thin. The formations he was dedicated to knowing were simple enough, he just had to apply himself. The Mysterious restorative enzyme of the Starlight Lotus would have to wait.
An A-Class Subterfuge Genin of Hoshigakure was expected to know 3 formations, and Yu was personally expecting he exceed in one. The formations were called Toru-chi, Gatune, and Star-assault.
Toru-chi was easy enough and feature Yu acting in Stealth as the basis for a 3-d ground assault. While he did just fine, Yu did have a tendency to press too soon but with some work he had a passable grade for this form.
The second form was hard for Yu to learn since it featured him using 9nly ranged techniques for tracking. The eager youth wanted to make the move, and it was hard to tame himself. After the instructor increasingly berated Yutaru for changing his formation, Yu begrudgingly gave up and had to admit this was his sore spot. Yu had little control of range, but he was fine just watching with his Byakugan and this boring formation was soon mastered.
The final formation Yutaru had to master was his favorite, and after understanding the roles of team members he was becoming comfortable with ninja formations. Star Scream featured Yutaru as the lead hunter. Leaping forward Yu could press the team as the leader in this formation, and his Vacuum Palm made for great edge in the battle. The Hyuuga lacked some experience yet but he was passed forward in the third and final formation.
Now he had all the skills to become a genin, and the Acadamy Graduation Exam would be soon.
