Thoughts From a Balcony
Fri May 13, 2022 11:19 am
- While you read:
Guren sat within the comforts of his office, reflecting on the history he's been through. At this point the bulk of his life was spent within the forces of Kumogakure, and on the run. But now a significant portion of his life had been spent as a Sunagakure shinobi, and understanding more of what it meant to be a true leader. Under a previous Raikage's rule, Guren had learned one avenue of what it meant to be a shinobi. More so, what it meant to be a warrior. But since departing and learning of his heritage and how to survive as an individual, Guren began to see the world through his own lens. Sipping the black coffee out of his ceramic mug, its warm ember soothed his soul and quelled his mind. He placed the mug back on top of his desk, and spun his chair so that it faced the window behind him. Opening it up, he felt the rays of the sun warm his face. Squinting his eyes slightly, he panned his vision across the office's view of Sunagakure. All of those within it depended on him. This is what it meant to be a leader. He closed his eyes and lowered his head in shame, reflecting on his defection from Kumogakure, where he abandoned his team with no concern of what would happen to them. How good of a leader could he be, when such a heavy burden weighed on his consciousness?
Puckering his lips softly, he let out a sharp whistle which echoed through the immediate vicinity of the apex of the spire. Moments later, a messenger bearded vulture would glide towards the window and perch itself on its frame. Raising his hand to the vulture's head, Guren would reward its promptness with a soft head scratch, comforting the vulture into fluffing out its feathers. The Kazekage would turn in place and retrieve a ribbon and a rolled up scroll from his desk. Approaching the vulture once more, Guren would securely tie the scroll to the vulture's ankle, and speak to it. "To the Land of Lightning, specifically the Raikage's office in Kumogakure. Thank you." And with that little bit of instruction, the vulture would take off and fly to its destination until it arrived.
The letter would read:
- Spoiler:
"To the office of the Raikage,
I am Guren Chinoike, third Kazekage of Sunagakure. Former Chuunin of Kumogakure. It is with my deepest condolences that I apologize for my defection and departure from the Land of Lightning. I was young and cursed with a life of solitude, rejection, and despondency. It was my personal ambition to seek out my heritage and what remained of it, to gain a better understanding of who I am and what I came from. But after learning this and subsequently defending myself from hunter shinobi, I felt I would be refused from returning to Kumogakure, as rejection was all I had known. With that being said, never had I demonstrated ill-will towards Kumogakure, or have taken actions to compromise its integrity. I ask not for you to pity my story, or see this as an excuse, but I am unsure of who is the sitting Raikage. Thus I want to make you aware of my status and my history. Not for an ulterior motive, but to extend an olive branch and let my regret be known. I hope to personally atone for my crimes to Kumogakure, and create a path of communication between us personally, and our villages.
I understand whatever feelings are met with this letter, whether vindictive or tolerant. But I ask whatever is felt from this message be harbored against me and me only.
I look forward to your response.
Guren Chinoike
Kazekage"

With the letter on its way at incredible speed from the messenger vulture, Guren would return to his desk to continue sipping on his coffee. At least he had attempted to clear his conscious. And regardless of what the Raikage's response was, he would welcome any course of action that would result from his letter.

Realizing he'd get no response, he'd leave his office for the day. There was no point in trying to force an interaction that wouldn't develop. But at least his conscious had been cleared regarding that portion of his past. Now it was time to move on.

Hidden among a massive stack of paper, one file atop of the other, was a letter sent by a man claiming to be the third Kazekage of Sunagakure, Guren Chinoike. "Kaito never responded to this? Strange" would be Ichigo's initial thoughts. He quickly sat down, slightly leaning back in his chair as he started to further inspect the message. Written inside was a story of regret, pain but also one containing a spark of hope. "Perhaps it is best I handle this matter in person" the Raikage thought out loud upon finishing the letter, informing his secretary to make preparations.
