Silence Is Key
Fri Mar 17, 2023 11:02 am
Stood in the center of the large room had been Hoori. His face and much of his features had finally been freed of his scarf showing the slender features of his face and flawless skin. He had been moving through the room in complete silence as he walked a normal pace, a skill he had learned from The Ragdoll back in his days in Suna. He truly wondered how the medic had been doing since his departure from the village, though with his new path he would not be able to see anytime soon. Regardless of the situation he continued to move in utter silence, holding his left hand up in the form of a balled fist before pulling back his right hand as if he had been drawing a bow. Flickers of blue would emit as his bow came forth into this world before slowing disappearing. He was on the cusp of creating something that would change the way he had truly fought and in the coming days it would prove useful. His right eye would be alit watching his surroundings for anyone that would come into the room, but for the moment he would continue practicing his drawing technique. Silence was key after all

A gentle breeze touched his skin, the wind softly blew through Grey's long locks of hair as he stood on deck. The Hyuuga watched and listened as he could hear the waves hitting The Dreadnought as the crew's ship effortlessly moved through the water, taking them to their intended destination. The young swordsman would lean on one of the sides, paying close attention to the surroundings and everything around him. The fresh air filled his lungs, making the realization that it wasn't a dream even clearer. Their own ship, finally a reality after years of hard work. However, they couldn't just stop there.
Making his way through all the different levels of The Dreadnought in order to further inspect the ship, Grey eventually ended up at the second one where the war floor was located. Taking a couple more steps the swordsman walked towards the training area, aware it would be a place he'd be spending quite some time honing and practicing his skills. Doing so, the Hyuuga noticed someone else seemed to have a similar idea as he watched Hoori elegantly move through the room, not making a single noise or sound whatsoever. In awe of the archer's display he couldn't help but stand still and steal with his eyes.
And then, almost as a sponge, perhaps even giving birth to a new nickname The Chameleon, Grey started to replicate Hoori's movements. Moving through the room in complete silence he followed his fellow Hyuuga's example, trying not to make a single sound. Repeating the same process over and over he was finally able to walk around without creating any sound, his footfalls ever so light. As he did, the swordsman suddenly noticed that even his armor and sword moved completely silent, gaining a new level to his mastery of the skill. Whatever he was doing, it appeared to be working tremendously.
He continued to practice, curious and wondering about what else could be possible. Whereas they would usually teach people to always keep an eye on their surroundings, Grey looked down and paid close attention to his feet, knowing the importance of footwork in any fight. As a consequence, the Hyuuga came to the conclusion that the skill was able to turn its user in the perfect assassin, leaving nothing in the way of footprints, handprints, or even fingerprints. Combined with his already impressive arsenal when it came to the art of the sword, he knew how much of a threat he could end up becoming.
After meticulously repeating many different movements he would place his hand on the katana attached to the side of his right hip. Whereas Hoori moves appeared more akin to ballet, Grey's were more similar to those of a professional fencer. Drops of sweat fell on the ground beneath him, the result of his vigorous training and determination to make the skill his own. The swordsman eventually finished, sheathing his blade once more as he allowed the exhaustion to finally catch up to him.

Auron made his way to the newly constructed training facility within the Dreadnought. It had been a desperately needed addition to the boat, as before there were no perfect ways to train aboard the boat. But now that it had been finished, what better time to use it? Upon entering the room Auron would immediately be met by Grey and Hoori, who seemed to be conducting their own training regiment. Upon entry, Grey appeared to be studying the movements of Hoori, who had been gracefully and silently moving around the room. It was considerably elegant, the way he had been able to conduct such movements while so effortlessly not making a sound. Shifting his own posture a bit, the silence was broken by the soft rustle of the fabrics of his armor brushing against its own steel. He scoffed lightly to himself, thinking on the fact that even though he considered himself an expert in both stealth and sensory, even he couldn't move so quietly.
Momentarily he would glance over at Grey, who by this time seemed to be on the same bullshit as Hoori. Just how was Grey able to learn and grasp the technique so fast? Perhaps it had been an inherited ability, something that only a select few could learn to pick up on? Thinking on this notion a little further, Auron shook his head and folded his arms. Once again came the soft scraping of his armor brushing against itself. Slightly irritated at this moment, Auron began to pay a bit closer attention at the movements of the pair who had now silently frolicked around the room in tandem. Now that he had paid attention to how they were doing it, rather than what they were doing things started to make a bit more sense to the Yamaguchi. And this was particularly true the more he watched Grey. The Hyuuga's initial movements had been slower, yet very light. Almost as if he had found a perfect state of stillness within his body while continuing to move. It was almost like an oxymoron, but Auron wanted to simplify the ability as just walking really slow. And so he attempted it, following some minutes after Grey began. But as he sought to mimic Hoori's movements, he found himself still noticing his own sound. Perhaps he was trying to learn too quickly by watching a master at the skill. Instead his focus redirected to Grey, and Auron's plan changed. Instead he began to move like his fellow swordsman, who started off much slower. And after some iterations of parading around the room, Auron finally noticed that his own sounds began to deafen. Excited, he smiled softly to himself, yet continued. This time he began to pick up his pace, accelerating until he even matched Hoori's own pace. And throughout the whole process, he didn't make a single sound.
Clearly this would be a simple yet effective way of training his body how to move. Although he could learn to mimic the exact movements of Hoori and Grey, Auron decided to incorporate his own style into it. His natural movements had been tactical, yet overwhelming. He naturally walked with a bit more power to his steps, but in a way that his stride was cutting. The same could be said about his way of fighting. And so throughout this process he mentally coached himself on how to exploit this newly found skill to its fullest potential.

Cid would find himself on the deck of the ship, sitting with his chair leaned back and stretched out with his legs up and resting on a barrel he set on its side for exactly that purposed. One hand would find itself behind his head, placing a barrier between his head and the wall he had been leaning up against, the other holding a pretty large jug of spirits that happened to be half empty already. Was it all drank in one go, or chipped away at over time? Nobody but Cid knows for certain. The sounds of the sea were like a lullaby, the gentle rocking of the ship along the waves able to lull the bandit into a slumber if he wasn't careful. In fact, as he felt the sleep approaching he would lean forwards and lift the barrel back to a standing position. With a big yawn and an equally big stretch, the pirate would begin to walk around the deck to limber up and stave off sleep. From the corners of his eyes he could see Grey looking over the side of the ship. He was about to approach when the swordsman when they made their way below deck. Cid figured that he might as well follow, for despite being incredibly happy with the ship there was still some nooks and crannies that he had yet to explore. Actually, upon thinking of that very thought, his mind drifted to Kira if only for the briefest of moments.
The rogue would swiftly (or at least swiftly by his standards) follow Grey to the War Floor, the very same floor that had the extensive training area put in to better improve their skills while out and about on the ocean blue. It would seem that a bunch of the crew all had the same idea. Hoori was here, along with Grey and Auron. They were all moving around the room in an odd manner, though there was a curious sound here... or more accurately lack thereof. Despite all of them being warriors with arms and armor, the only thing the bandit could hear was the crashing of waves on the sides of the ship. It wasn't like the waves were usually so loud to normally be able to drown out the sounds of metal scraping and clanking off of itself. In fact, the waves today were relatively mild and calm by all sea standards. This was smooth sailing. So how exactly were they able to muffle their movements so fully. Cid would lean against the wall and just watch, taking in what it was that they were all doing. Hoori seemed the most comfortable in his movements, each one as graceful and swift as the last. Grey seemed to also pick it up pretty quickly, as each one of his movements improved and increased in speed to match that of Hoori. Auron wasn't far behind, and Cid kinda felt a bit out of place here. Everything was silent, and the talkative pirate felt the desire to break said silence like a burning in his throat. But instead of letting a sound come out, he washed that down with a swig of rum and shrugged. Screw it! He would think to himself as he tried his best to mirror what it was that the others were doing. It was a bit harder to know if he had it down, as his gear didn't really make a whole lot of noise normally. Still, his slow and cautious moves seemed to be working. At first, his boots could be heard tapping against the floorboards with each step, but that would slowly but surely quiet down until he too felt like he was getting the hang of it.
If Hoori looked like a dancer, and Grey looked like a fencer... Cid probably looked like a god damned zombie or such, slowly shuffling along and swaying a bit back and forth due to his inebriation. He'd take a pause for now, letting the odd lesson sink it. Auron and Grey both left, Cid offering them a nod and a smile.
"So, Hoori right? That's a pretty neat talent you got there. I've never really been one to want to creep up on a target quietly. Usually just blast 'em from a distance with Ninjutsu." The red headed pirate would offer, taking another deep drink of his spirits.

“AAAAHHHH” Cole moaned as his eyes slit open to the burning sensation of a bright light shining down into his eyes. Rolling over and looking around he was laying on a cold metal table in a pure white room. Reaching over to the first familiar thing he saw, and grabbing it before turning it up. Only to have a massive disappointment of it being empty. Rolling off the table he walked over to the medicine cabinet. The cabinet had a glass door on it that said break incase of emergency. Seeing this was about as big of an emergency as he could think of at the time. Cole broke the glass before reaching in and pulling out the familiar brown bottle with a cork in it. Uncorking the bottle he tilted it up and took a nice long swig. With a sigh of relief he noticed that he was standing in the infirmary. His new job location, he had put that medicine cabinet there as a joke with a bottle of rum in it, but also just for this instance, as he had also paid for several replacement doors as well knowing that this would probably happen at some point. “Well that door didn’t last long” he said to himself as he walked away to grab the broom and dustpan.
Turning the light off as he walked by he remembered that he had turned it on to read up on some medical ninjutsu, and was using it as a reading light, but fell asleep on the table before he finished. Grabbing the broom and dustpan he quickly cleaned up his mess before throwing it away figuring that he would replace the door to the cabinet later with a new one with fresh glass in it. With his mess cleaned up he started to think that it was awfully quiet on the ship. Not that it was always a lot of noise going on, but he was used to a certain level of noise. Since most of the people on the ship were fighters wearing metal armor with metal weapons, and also liked to talk. It was weird for it to be this quite for this long, plus he had not been woken up by anything crazy.
Stumbling out the door with his fresh bottle in hand determined to figure out what everyone was doing. Cole swayed from side to side, occasionally bumping his shoulders on the sides of the hall as the ship swayed from side to side with him. It was about this point that he remembered that the new training area or room or whatever they were calling it was going to be done today, and figured everyone was there. Deciding to make his way over to the training room Cole turned around as he was heading up on top of the deck. Lucky for him the training room was not far away from where he was at. Walking into the training room Cole was greeted with the site of the crew walking around in a circle after each other. The first thing that came to his mind was that they were practicing for a conga tournament. He was slightly disappointed at that thought because they hadn’t invited him, but then noticed that they were being extremely quiet while doing it, and that it was not the right move for the conga.
“Why is everyone being so quiet?” he mumbled to himself as swayed to one side, catching himself. “It doesn't look that hard” he added to himself as he started to walk as silently as they was, except that you could still hear every time he took a sip of his bottle and the liquid swished around in it. Proving that it wasn’t that hard Cole went and leaned against the wall letting himself fall down, as Cid began to speak about blowing things up with Ninjutsu, or something like that anyways. Cole would stick around for a while and see what was going on before leaving the room, and finding something interesting on or off the ship to stare at for a while.

He made no sounds as he continued to glide effortlessly across the floor as he continued his own training. His weapon of choice would ebb in and out of existence similar to a flowing stream of water. It hadn't taken him long to come up with the technique and with this he was one step closer to truly mastering his moniker. Such a shame that he couldn't show Shin these new improvements but wherever the tough bastard was he was sure that malicious male had been causing some mayhem in his own right. As time went on he could see a few other people coming into the area, not facing them but seeing them through his Byakugan. He wondered for a moment if the would speak, but after watching the first to arrive it would seem he was being a teacher for a moment. He would turn his head just enough to watch Grey attempt to mimic his silent movements and he had to give the male an A for effort. Even though Hoori had still been mastering the technique of Silent Killing himself, for someone to pick it up and modify it to their own liking had been pretty impressive. The thought of congratulating him was on his mind, but at the moment he would just allow the male to continue trying to learn it. As a second person came in, Auron this time, he'd see the male attempting to derive the same movements into his own repertoire as well. It was definitely a little weird to see people trying to learn from him, but another thought crossed his mind. This was a good opportunity to allow others to be able to assassinate flawlessly without fail. Maybe this was a good idea.
As more people funneled in he would stop for just a moment to face the class as it were before seeing that Cid had begun to speak to him. Deactivating his Byakugan he would chuckle for a moment before scratching his cheek," Being an archer and assassin you have to be able to not only cover your tracks but also be able to silently be able to escape as well. Ninjutsu is good for when stealth is no longer an option though so I see your point. Never the less its always good to be prepared for any eventuality. Be ready so you don't have to be ready as they say yeah," and boy wasn't that the truth. Seeing as the others had finished their attempts at the Silent Killing technique he would see if anyone needed anything else before going back into perfecting his new technique.
