Let's do some Crimes

The joys about being a Missing Ninja in this world was that no one could stop you from traveling, well traveling into villages to an extent but even then a good number actually welcomed criminals as long as they weren’t criminals from that village or area and were on good behavior. Getting away from the main point, Uta quite enjoyed being able to go anywhere he wanted in the world, his most recent travels over the years brought him to the continent across the sea that most people never bothered to interact with since most major villages were on the mainland. It was the perfect place to get a foothold in a place unclaimed by others, and that was why Uta enjoyed being here in the Key Country. It was about as far away from the mainland as you could get but since it was a coastal country the ease of travel to and from was possible.
 
Now it was another day and Uta needed to make some Ryo to actually be able to start getting a foothold over here, after all money makes the world go round and for someone like him on the lower end of the criminal world he needed what he could to get some safety. So he needed to get out there and see what people needed help or could easily be taken advantage of, whichever tickled his fancy.
 
It wasn’t long till Uta came across his first job, it came in the form of a old woman looking for some help, she needed to be escorted to a nearby town for some reunion and was even foolishly willing to pay up front to anyone that would help her. Typically Uta would have just taken the money and dipped but he figured if he helped this old lady he might have a better chance at getting another job in the nearby town and get a small foothold that way so he approached the old woman and of course she was startled by his appearance with his blacked out and blood red eyes. “I hear you need escorting to the nearby town? I can help if you don’t mind how I look.” He offered with a sweet smile, the old woman looked at him suspiciously but nodded her head, “Yes’m, if you could kindly help me get there I would greatly appreciate it and I can even give you the money now.” She offered holding out a small bag, Uta took the bag and held out an arm for the old woman to grab onto. “Shall we make our way there then ma’am?” He said keeping his smile and upbeat persona. The old woman took his arm and they made their way off to the nearby town and within a few hours they arrived without issue, they would have made it even faster had they not been slowed by the woman’s pace but Uta had all the time in the world for his tasks and it was a beautiful day out.
 
They arrived at the reunion a few other family members and elderly shocked by Uta’s weird appearance and eyes but they came around when the elderly woman explained how he had helped her get here without any issues. Uta gave them soft smiles and friendly waves, gathering information from the now talkative people. He heard there was some trouble brewing with a local gang and that perked him up, as he was sure they probably had some basic work to do. He thanked the people and left the family to enjoy themselves as he looked around the town for his next employer.

The task of finding the local gang didn’t take long as it was a small town and finding the place where the “bad” guys hung out was as simple as looking for the local tavern, all eyes turned onto Uta’s appearance in the tavern both due to being someone new and then because of his appearance and strange looking eyes. Uta was comfortable in these situations as he wasn’t worried any of these backwater thugs would be strong enough to put a scratch on his body. So he approached the barkeep and started asking questions, “So any work needing down around here? Oh and I mean ANY work, maybe someone slighted someone or didn’t fully pay for something?” Uta asked aloud, meaning to direct it to the barkeep but it was loud enough for any of the nearby people to hear it too. After all he wasn’t picky with his jobs and ryo was ryo no matter the source.
 
The barkeep looked him over and with some signal that Uta couldn’t see started to speak, “We got a customer that refuses to pay his “tab” for some things that we got for him and need someone to speak with him.” The man said as he cleaned out a slightly dirty cup, once he finished with that he filled it up with some low quality alcohol and gave it to Uta looking him in the eyes. “If you can take care of that we will pay you a part of what he owed for the effort.” He finished awaiting Uta’s response. Uta nodded his head and drank the drink given to him, upon which the barkeep scribbled some address down on paper and gave it to the young man. Uta grabbed the paper read it and destroyed it, than made his way to the listed place to help these fine folks get paid for their services after all no one liked being jibed for some hard work.
 
The house of the man in question was an almost falling down dilapated building that Uta felt if he breathed to hard in the direction of the house it would fall down into a bunch of rubble, regardless it was time to start his work. For now he simply checked out the area, mainly looking for the most likely escape route for the person. If the local gang was having a hard time getting the man to pay with the state of the person’s home it meant they were probably pretty slippery and hard to catch. So like any good hunter, Uta set plenty of pit fall traps in the most likely places they would dash towards. It was a nostalgic experience for Uta as he remembered hunting back home with his family and even more so when he started indulging in hunting other people. Once these traps were set up he approached the house knocking loudly, “Hey open up, I’m here to get some money you owe.” He said with a firm voice intending to scare the man into running to speed up this process. Uta heard scuffling of feet and furniture in the house with the sound of someone falling out of a window and followed by the sound of running footsteps. Uta calmly rounded the corner of the house as he watched the back of the man disappear into the brush behind the house and shortly later a blood curdling scream pierced the air.
 
A smile formed on the young man’s face as he took his time reaching the man now with his foot impaled on the sharpened sticks in one of the many pitfalls Uta had set up. “Please, Please, I’ll give you everything just please help me.” The man begged as he held his leg, “Oh don’t worry, I’ll help you once I get the ryo you owe. So tell me where it is and I’ll get right on that.” Uta said as he squatted next to the man wearing a kind smile on his face. The man reached into his shirt pulling out a bag that clinked with the sound of coins and handed it to the menacing Missing Nin. “See if you had done this earlier for the guys you hired we wouldn’t be here and your foot wouldn’t be bleeding so heavily. Well have fun, Id start putting pressure on that would and getting to a doctor.” Uta said as he took the money and headed to the tavern to get his cut of the money. He could hear the man cursing him and all it did was make him Chuckle.
 
Entering the tavern he tossed the bag onto the bar and held out his hand, the barkeep eyeing him and checking the content of the bag counting the money inside, “Is he still alive?” The man asked to which Uta looked at him gesturing to his outspread hand to which the man with a huff handed over the promised ryo, “Sure, he is behind his home bleeding from a major wound so if ya’ll move fast you could save him.” Uta offered as he started to head out of the tavern and was enjoying how his wallet was slowly starting to grow.

Now that Uta had done some work in this town it was time to move onto somewhere new, No reason to give anyone a reason to remember him as anything  more then a wandering individual. So he departed the town he had just been in and continued to see what was to be seen, Uta was simply enjoying the countryside and the sights it held from the overflowing forests and woods to the vibrant flora that dotted the roadsides. This was one of the many things that Uta really enjoyed about his life style, the ability to see and enjoy the sights and places. Being able to do what he wanted and when he wanted was a sense of freedom that most never got to truly enjoy and Uta was enjoying every bit. He had helped an old woman get to her family reunion without incident, caused immense bodily harm to some unlucky weasel and was now holding some ryo that will help him find a place to stay and enjoy some warm food.
 
It was upon this journey of looking for his next spot to rest at that he encountered a very strange moving and looking individual. They looked hunched and wore a very tattered and worn out cloak of some sort, they looked like they were trying to move quickly and silently to not cause any attention to themselves but to do so when no one was around simply brought more attention to yourself so Uta called out to them, “Oi, If you are going to be moving that way then you should do so in the woods.” He said without a care in the world, the individual stopped moving and turned towards Uta seemingly shocked he had been discovered. There was what Uta could only describe as a panic shuffle towards Uta, “Young man, Young man, Listen here I will give you this money I have if you never tell anyone I was here. Here, take it.” The individual said with a voice that both sounded young and old at the same time, their hands clawed but their skin smooth it was a strange sight to see but it was free money for the traveling Missing Ninja so Uta agreed and took the money that was being handed out for a simple task of just not saying anything. “Alright no problem I’ll take the money and keep your secret.” Uta said as he continued on his way, with a glance back all Uta could see of the strange person was the end of the tattered cloak disappearing into the tree line. “Glad to see they took my advice.” Uta said as he continued on his way enjoying the free money.

Now that it was starting to get late, Uta wondered if he should engage in some nightly activities of the thieving kind as he was coming up on a town and was noticing some groups of travelers departing. Their attire spoke of a merchant background though it seemed they didn’t have any guards or really enough people to warrant such protection. After all this country was fairly crime-free beyond the random thug or bandit but those were scattered as there hadn’t been any big groups formed yet. Another reason for Uta’s own decision to come to this far away land. Though it was time to capitalize on that fact and earn some more pocket change before finding a place to rest for the night.
 
Uta used the overgrowth to set up various traps and distractions for the approaching duo, it seemed to be a older man and a slightly younger man engaged in deep conversation and by what Uta could discern it was about the success of their trades in the town they were leaving, glad to have been able to make some decent ryo there. That put a smile on Uta’s face as it meant he would be able to get some nice Ryo for later, the duo approached the traps which involved a simple tripwire and hole to fall into. The plan was simple, as the duo was carrying their spoils they would trip and fall into the hole as Uta would simply grab the spoils and leave them to their troubles and disappear into the night.
 
It didn’t take long as the duo started to stumble with words of surprise and cursing being shouted as Uta watched the spoils fly up into the air, He quickly snatched the spoils out of the air and continued on his way. He didn’t want to check on the two as he didn’t care and if they were fine they would see his face which would ruin the point of this quick ambush. So on his way he went counting his spoils though it was only another thousand ryo it was another thousand to his wallet that would put more food on the table for himself.

The night was wrapping up and so was the all the activities that Uta wanted to do, now it was time to find a inn or tavern with an inn attached to get a place to sleep and eat at. Entering the nearest town Uta located what he was looking for and went about ordering some food and taking a seat. From all the talk there was some tournament going on with a prize of a thousand ryo for winning, Uta had plenty of money at the moment but that wasn’t to say he couldn’t have even more so Uta joined in the tournament and for hours the games went on. This tournament happened to be a poker tournament and with Uta’s friendly and smiling persona he was able to trick and con people into folding or calling when he so needed them too. Uta quickly rose through the brackets of the tournament and at the end of the night he had easily won the prize, fair and square and without any incidents.
 
He spent some time with the townspeople after the tournament to make sure there wouldn’t be anyone stupid enough to come at him while he slept for a measly thousand ryo and once he was satisfied no one would be dumb enough to do so Uta got the key to his room that he had paid for and went to sleep with his newly found wealth from his day of travels and interactions. “Today went pretty well if I’m being honest, I hope tomorrow has more in store of similar times.” Uta thought to himself as he rested his head on the pillow provided and slowly closed his eyes, wandering off to sleep for the night
