Junko's been staying with the elder couple, Akira and Emi for a few weeks now. She definitely found that she was more of a homebody than she had thought. It was nice having 3 hot meals a day, and a roof over her head. Akira had taught her a few of the water Jutsu he had learned before he retired and moved to the moon, and his power was growing by the day. Emi had taught her more home steading type skills, cooking, cleaning, and what it takes to run a household. It almost felt like they were her grandparents.
At this point, she would do anything they asked of her, often times they'd have her help run errands or pick up some jobs the locals needed help with. They helped instill a sense of community within her, and now when she roams the small settlement she helps anyone who looks like they need it. She's also become fond of the children living next door whom she had helped about a week or so back.
Kai and Yumi frequently came to the clothing shop when she was running it, asking about any of her adventures and sometimes asking her to play the music. She was very fond of the little "family" she seemed to be building for herself, no matter how cobbled together it felt. She finally was able to feel some sense of belonging somewhere and reveled in it as much as she could.
One morning, however, when she finished her routine and opened up the clothing shop Kai and Yumi came bursting through the doors. They looked to be extremely frantic and emotional. Soon they told a story of the night before. They explained that while they were playing in the plains, close to their bedtime they heard a loud chirpy purring sound and something running to them. Quickly they ran as fast as they could and got back home before they could see what was chasing them.
Apparently, before they came to the shop they went back to see if there were any markings and they found "giant" footprints. Their parents said it was probably somebody playing a trick on them and to not worry about it, but they wanted to tell Junko so maybe she could find out what happened. After they finished speaking Junko placed a hand on top of each of their heads and rustled their hair. She knelt down, gave a reassuring smile, and promised to look into it for them, but asked that they stay home until she found out the cause.
After reassuring the kids, Junko informed Emi about her need to go out for the day. A few moments passed and Emi wandered downstairs and set herself up to manage the store. Junko said her goodbyes and headed toward the spot Kai and Yumi mentioned. She had hoped this was nothing serious, maybe just a prank like their parents said but who knows.
While walking she was able to find their footprints, it had rained the day before so the mud was easily imprinted with their tracks. She followed them for a few minutes and soon came upon a large harvested wheat field. Their footprints continued on into the field, and following them she soon found the large prints they mentioned. After examining them she came to the conclusion that they had webbed-like feet, four toes on each front foot and three on each back one.
She had seen markings like these before but couldn't quite place her finger on it. She followed the creature's footsteps for about an hour until she reached a heavily vegetated river. She found other paw prints in the mud indicating that there was more than one, smaller version of this creature. She found leaves with large and small bites taken out of them.
Walking beside the river she eventually came upon a pond-like section that had seemed to be dried up. Examining the mud, she found little tufts of short brown fur, and the paw tracks looked as if the little ones had been romping with each other. The larger set of prints seemed to have been lounging in the mud.
As she examined them she heard a squeaking, purring sound like the kids described. She then immediately knew what she was up against. Within the first few days of being in moon, she assisted an elderly adventurer with a companion of his. This companion was a giant capybara named Eldest. After spending time with it, she could quite easily recognize the sound of one.
She backed away from the mud, and back closer to the river where the sound had come from. There, not to her surprise was a much smaller version of eldest, and what seemed to be a few babies trailing behind it swimming in the water. She admired the group of them from afar and just enjoyed watching them play together. The parent capybara seemed to have noticed her but didn't make any moves toward her.
She assumed that the kids running around the field laughing and playing scared the creature while it was out foraging causing it to lash out and give chase for a little bit. Relieved that this wasn't some crazy monster or some larger problem she relaxed and observed the vapybaras until they moved along.
She climbed onto a large flat rock overlooking the river and pulled out one of the Icha Icha romance novels Emi gave her. While there she laid down and spent a few hours reading and listening to the river babble below her. As the sun began to set, she rushed back over the plains to inform Kai and Yumi of what happened.
They were ecstatic to hear that it was just some cute animals, and not some carnivorous monster looking to eat them! She invited them over for dinner and told them the whole tale. Of course, she had to add a little bit of flare to the story to keep it interesting but kept it mostly accurate. As the night closed she escorted them back home, then herself laid down for bed.

From the time she arrived in Moon, everyone was so sweet and kind to Junko. Though just a vagabond, she was able to help out the people in the small community's so-called home for the time being. She did feel bad for riding on the coattails of Akira and Emi however. Yes, she did do work for them, and help with the home but she just didn't feel right staying under their roof. One early morning she contemplated this quietly to herself during breakfast. The couple didn't mention her odd quietness and went about their normal morning routine.
As she stirred her peppermint tea she tried thinking of ways to still be in their lives, but not be directly under their roof. She also didn't want them to think she was leaving because of them or how they treated her. It's just she didn't feel like this was her home. Sure the room she was staying with was going more and more homey, but it still is just a guest room in their home.
Breaking the silence, Emi informed Junko that they were going to have some family coming to stay with them for a few days. She was curious if Junko would mind the extra visitors or not. They wouldn't be here for a few days, but she wanted to give Junko a heads-up. Junko clearly immediately had no problems with this, she even expressed her interest in meeting their family.
As the conversation about their stay died down, Junko decided to inform them about potentially moving out. At first, they seemed a bit taken aback, and concerned about her. however, the more she explained the more OK they became with the idea. They mentioned that they miss her but understood why she needed to go. Promptly she explained to them that she wanted to stay close by, and still intended to help them with their house and clothing shop.
They perked up at this and soon began talking about the abandoned place next door. Soon they explained to her that it once belonged to an old friend of theirs who passed quite suddenly due to an illness. to their knowledge, the home has been untouched and abandoned since then. The previous occupant had no family, so they were unsure of who actually owned it now.
Previously Junko was hired to clean out a horrific smell coming from the building due to some trotten food left there, and managed to get a good look inside. It wasn't the largest home, but it definitely was enough room for just her for now. Was she actually going to do this, was she actually wanting to settle down here? She contemplated the pros and cons and decided to look into the property's ownership.
After breakfast, she headed to a medium-sized building with a sign that said "Court House". Inside she found a woman about the same age as Emi behind a quaitly decorated desk. She spoke to the woman about being interested in the property, and that she was curious about occupying the home there. The woman acknowledged her and asked Junko to wait while she looked for the file. She then stood up and wandered into what looked to be a room filled with filing cabinets.
As she waited, she examined the woman's desk. There were a few miscellaneous trinkets and bobbles Junko found quite charming. She was excited to potentially decorate and renovate a home for herself. After a few minutes, the woman returned with a folder in hand and explained that the property was currently unowned. After the previous resident passed, nobody claimed it so the land was free to take after filling out some paperwork.
Deciding to go through with it, the woman assisted Junko in filling out the correct paperwork and getting legal things in order. After about 2 hours, Junko could finally say she was the owner of a home. Though filled with flaws, she could feel herself falling in love with the house. While out and about she decided to order a few materials she'd need to get the home back in shape, at least visually.
With the proper materials ordered and expected for delivery the next day, Junko excitedly went back to Akira and Emi's home to inform them about what was to come. During dinner they discussed plans for the renovations, what items she'd need, and how they'd get them. That night she stayed with them, excited to start on the home in the morning she could hardly force herself to sleep.
The next morning when she awoke Emi had made a grand breakfast for the three of them, for some reason Junko felt like this was a goodbye breakfast but she'd be right next door after all. The sensation was oddly comforting, like she was moving into a new chapter in her life, without completely ridding herself of those around her. Unlike other big moments in her life, this one felt easier.
Finishing breakfast she promptly went to her new home. She had to crawl back up onto the second floor and break in through a window like she did previously to open the front door. The house was the same as she left it previously, dust-covered, cobwebbed, and full of stale air. Akira had told some of his buddies that Junko would need help renovating the house, so before she could do it all herself a handful of young men and women arrived to offer their assistance.
She thanked all of them profusely and everyone quickly got to work, even Kai and Yumi came to help out. It was amazing to her to see how quickly the community she had implanted herself in came to assist her in her time of need. It nearly brought a tea to her eye thinking about how thankful she was for those around her.
As the hours passed the roof was able to be patched, all the windows were opened to let in some fresh air, and the dust and remaining garbage removed. In just a day's work, due to the help of all these people her new home was nearly completed. It wasn't in as bad of shape as she had originally thought, it was mostly just dirty with a handful of holes in the roof. They were also able to get the water running, however, the stove that was there was considered a fire hazard, and needed to be removed promptly.
She went shopping as the night came to an end in order to get some necessary items, a bed being one of them. when she arrived back she found a large sack on one of the countertops. Inside was a note that simply said "Take good care of the house, and it'll take care of you." in cursive lettering. In the sack as well there was a pile of Ryo. She wondered who had left this for her, and when she questioned Akira and Emi, they had no idea either.
After eating dinner with the two of them Junko headed back to her newly renovated, but nearly empty home. She was excited to finally have a place of her own and was eager to fill it with all kinds of items. She had always had a more maximalist style of decorating and wasn't able to keep many things on the road. This was the first night of hopefully many of them staying under her own roof.
