We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb! Empty We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb!

Natural Disaster [ Total Required WC: 3000 ]

[ WC Required Each: 1500 ]

A country-wide emergency had been issued before the storms even hit. There was a massive cold front meeting a massive warm front over the land of fire, and everyone everywhere had been warned about the possibility of wall clouds, funnels, and tornadoes / water spouts and how fast things happen when it comes to this form of natural disaster. These warnings were spread through word of mouth, leaf ninja visiting different encampments, and notices posted along the roads. They urged the denizens of the Land of fire to evacuate their homes and leave their livelihoods for their own safety.

A lot of people had preemptively evacuated, yet there were still a handful of stubborn and unwavering villagers / settlers throughout the land. Vagabonds had been placed on high alert and asked to help those in need. They would be compensated well should they help the stubborn bullheaded people in the Land of Fire and / or clear out any bandit groups that should attack fleeing citizens. There was also a list of nearby and known bandit encampments to avoid with bonus bounties should they be run into and their leaders either captured or killed.

When Masume read the notices along the road she was walking, she felt a slight pang of sympathy for the settlers all over the land of fire, from those she had met prior to those she had yet to meet.

Masume knew what it was like to not have a stable place to live growing up. Yes, she made do, but it still didn't make her not fear for those children who could lose anything at any given time over the next couple days. And then the dangers of bandits around on top of it all? It seemed like a shitty situation all around.  However if these bandit encampments had any self preservation skills, they would also take shelter.

Included with the notices were rendezvous points for each of the cardinal directions and lesser directions, totaling 8.  Ninja were encouraged to meet up at points and go in at least couples to help minor settlements in that general area and bring the denizens of the land of fire to the tornado shelters built at these rendezvous' points.

Masume was nearest to the Western point, between southwest and west, but of course, closest to west, on the borders. When she arrived, she had a sudden recall of a memory of her parents dropping her off there with a village elder while they helped out the surrounding villages. Everything happened to be okay and they were not struck, but the shelter brought back the memory to her, having been long forgotten.

The shelter was an underground shelter that had a top that was slightly dome shaped, looking like a very very shallow hill, barely recognizable to those who felt the slight incline and then decline. Itwas made of metal and stone with multiple exits in case of fallen debris. The top of the shelter, barely a foor off the ground and sloping to the ground was entirely metal and smooth to allow a tornado to pas right over without issue.

Masume shook off the slightly unpleasant memory after inspecting the shelter and got to work searching for a partner or team willing to have her work with him or her or them. They would have to register the partnership or group with a ninja that was guarding the rendezvous point in order to get paid upon safe return after the storm, provided they had seen her and her group or partner actively helping at the encampment and / or bringing people to the shelter.

Masume glanced around, standing near the shelter she had just inspected, skies overcast and threatening rain, looking cooly and calmly for someone... anyone to work with.

We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb! Empty Re: We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb!

Thu Feb 08, 2024 8:15 am
The drum of footsteps approaching an otherwise untrodden road startled Deeb from his slumber. Lax from idleness and aching from travel, the young man dreamt of the brimstone and ashes that filled the sky of his homeland. Awoken now, he pressed a horn to the dirt and counted the refuge's stampeding steps. The herd of folk approached him from the west, towards the village hidden within the leaves. Deeb converted the currency earned from his recent travel there into materials for easy transport. Forlorn, the young Ajin Tribesman let his sight linger eastward for a moment; he appeared unwilling to leave the relative safety of Fire country. As he gazed towards the horizon, Deeb noticed the weather changing rapidly. Dark clouds gathered in the sky, giving him a sense of foreboding peril. It was great weather for ducks, and a duck he was not.

The people moved purposefully, overlooking Deeb as they fled from an unknown threat toward an unknown reprieve. Ponderously, he watched their passing. Deeb became increasingly curious as they made their way through. He wondered what exactly they were running away from. He moved cautiously, following their footsteps and jettisoned belongings strewn through the mud. They had travelled a long way, Deeb discovered. And as he stepped closer to river country, the imminent disaster became apparent. Migrants from border villages were making a pilgrimage away from their homes to avoid the tumultuous weather. The perilous winds and rain that Deeb planned to walk astride started to sweep across him as he activated the first inner gate. He propelled himself forward with sheer might, soaring through the air with remarkable grace and power. Deeb had initially estimated his strength and velocity against the unseen physical forces of wind and gravity, but he now realised his miscalculation.

Deeb pressed his heel against the squall and carried himself through the air, bounding forward. The laborious exercise was slower and physically more demanding than simply running into the wall of wind he could feel but could not touch. However, feeling far from wearing thin, the man consistently and effortlessly applied the immeasurable force required to contradict the Earth's gravitational pull. Although he didn't comprehend the physics necessary to achieve each consecutive step mid-air, he deduced that it was possible simply by being able to do so. The world around him reacted violently to his actions as if the force he exerted was unnatural. The current natural calamity was the only balance for the disorder his otherwise humble lack of restraint imposed. Deeb interpreted this omen superstitiously, portending that repercussions would ensue if he used his strength liberally.

Deeb descended towards the ground after air-walking westward, satisfied he had left no footprints within a trackable distance. His landing was graceless. Deeb's stoic expression remained unchanged even as he deactivated the first inner gate, which should have caused an expected inertial whiplash. After carefully evaluating his physical resilience, the wandering nomad confidently declared to his forefathers that his inherent strength reduced the likelihood of suffering significant injuries. The weather doubted him and saturated his clothes, making traversing the landscape a triumph. Deeb trudged through the muddy terrain with no small amount of ease. The mud had a vice-like grip on his feet, making each step a struggle. Despite his best efforts, he lost his shoes in the dense, sticky muck. The rain was pelting down in sheets, obscuring his vision and making it impossible to get his bearings or find his way out of the treacherous terrain.

A shepherd was somewhere far from this weather, minding his sheep by the dry straw. Deeb cursed that man. Deeb wished for a lasting wound of the flesh, but his beating heart still willed him to take no notice of Deeb's predicament. It compelled him to drink in the tears that would drown Deeb, breathe in the same airs that wordlessly whispered Deeb would not prevail, and the same draught made the oaks grow tall. But for all Deeb's fearlessness, he was lost.

We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb! Empty Re: We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb!

Fri Feb 09, 2024 8:55 am
Rain started to pour. First a slight drizzle, then outright pounding of water, striking so hard that it almost felt like hail. It happened so fast, Masume was taken aback. However, in her training as a child she had weathered a lot of storms and knew how to handle it.

Everyone was working busily and there was nobody left to partner with, so against her better judgement, she headed out to look for people to bring to the shelter, stopping at different villages and working her way to the south. She would sweep that area first and then head back north.  As she was approaching the area in the land of fire that borders the country of the Land of River, about half way down, she came across a horned man, stuck to half way up his calves, in mud, and two shoes laying stuck a ways behind him in the shallower side. He was looking around hopelessly whilst trying to free himself.

Masume exhaled softly looking the demon-boy over and trying to assess if this could be a missing ninja trap as this boy had no village information on him, and wasn't anywhere near the villages or the path. He wasn't in immediate danger anyways. After a a minute of watching him from behind the trees, she realized how unbelievably skinny he was, and taller than her to boot. But he needed help and she was willing to assist given the circumstances of the weather. Hopefully it wouldn't mean the end of her.

Thinking methodically, she positioned herself behind the boy, but still far enough away he likely couldn't see her, especially with the rain possibly in his eyes. She focused chakra around her feet, feeling the wind energy surging through her body. It had been a while since she had practiced ninjutsu, and even so, it was never her strongest point. She hadn't been perfect on it either, so she sincerely hoped this worked. She focused her  energy into the hare sign before acting.

Masume jumped into the mud, plucking the shoes up and tucking them under her arms, whilst sending a chakra burst out of her feet to land nearby and behind the stuck man. She made sure to activate the surface walking technique and also made sure not to move very much once landing so that she would not get stuck in the suction of the mud. She had successfully completed the Wind Release: Double Jump jutsu. Maybe she wasn't quite so rusty after all!

"I'll get you out." She reassured the boy.  "Just bear with me here"

Her feet didn't sink due to the surface walking technique. Masume then made the handsigns of Monkey and Bird, again focusing Wind chakra to her feet. Immediately after, She reached under the boy's arms from behind and lifted him out of the mud and Leaping out of the mud and back into the trees with him in tow, should he allow her to, attempting use of Wind Release: Sudden Rise and being successful with at least her getting out of the mud. He would escape the mud too, should he allow Masume to lift him out and bring him with her.

As soon as her feet touched solid ground again, she let go of the boy, if he had been released from the mud's grip, and walking around to the front of him to place his shoes down.

She stood back up and exhaled rather loudly from a deep breath. After a moment she spoke up "Why did you stray from the path?" Masume asked the horned ninja, unaware he was a ninja. She had thought he was a civillian in need of saving. "It's dangerous out here in this weather. You should be more careful."

We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb! Empty Re: We're not in Kansas Anymore, Deeb!

Masume noticed the boy didn’t say much if anything, and if he did she couldn't hear over the wind whipping around and the rain pelting everything in sight. This was only getting worse… much worse.

Should he allow it, Masume would help the man to the shelter, and make sure he got in safely and was taken care of by her colleagues, given a blanket and a warm place to dry off while the storm continued to get worse.

Masume continued on her sweep of the southwest section of the west, checking to make sure all the settlements had been evacuated and making sure to find a crack her bugs could get under and not be affected by the winds or rain. She blocked the weather from messing with them as much.

House after house returned empty. This was good, there was nobody in danger!

Until she returned to the westmost shelter and heard there were tornadoes in the area. Masume, then, started the sweep north, toward the borders of The Land of Fire and The Land of Rain. There was a settlement in which none of the people had evacuated.

She explained to each family that there were tornadoes in the area and that it would be safest to go to the shelter just a little ways south, and that she could guide them, however, these people were stubborn and not very receptive.

“We’ve been here all our lives for generations, we won't budge! You just want us off our land so you can sell it!” exclaimed one very old man shaking his cane at the ninja.

“You don’t belong to the leaf! How do I know you won't kill us?!” exclaimed a woman, hiding a small child behind her.

The more people she visited, the more rejected her help.

One even asked her to reenforce his house, however against a strong tornado it would do little good. Still, she complied, boarding up the windows.

Suddenly, the wind became very still, though the rain continued to pour. People were coming out to their porches confused. The sky had a greenish hue, and a wall cloud was visible.

"This is our last chance!" She shouted gathering the attention of the tiny settlement. "The shelter isn't far off, we can still make it! It will be okay, you can replace the material things, but you can not replace each other. Please listen to reason and join me in going to the shelter!"

Some of the villagers looked very nervous and as a couple of them volunteered to go, more and more joined the group, growing until the population of the town, 50 or so, were ready to go with only a few things in tow, mostly beloved pets or wallets.

As the rain died down suddenly, Masume sent out her 300 remaining bugs to search as quickly as they could for signs of life. After a couple minutes, they returned, noting that everyone was out of their homes and in the town square in the mob before Masume.

Then the hail began. Golfball sized hail erupted from the sky. It started as a few pieces here and there to a full on assault. Mothers bent over their children and elders huddled over their pets to keep their heads safe.

"We must leave now! Follow this path to the Southeast! It will take you to the shelter! I'll follow behind!" She shouted to the group as some of them took off running. The group was walking at the very least, speedily, to hurry and get out of the storm.

Eventually Masume noticed the old man with the cane from earlier limping, and straggling behind. She placed his arm over her shoulder and helped him get to the shelter promptly with the others. He had forgotten his cane and had been struggling to keep up.

"It's okay, sir, I've got ya," she said, getting him in the shelter promptly upon arrival.

Masume turned and was heading back out when a ninja that had been guarding the place yanked her inside and shut the door.

He explained there was a funnel cloud sighted in the direction from which she just came. It didn't look like it was moving, which meant it was coming towards them. She was to stay in the shelter and help assist those in need.

After about ten minutes of handing out warm tea and blankets, the thunking of the hail against the metal dome that was barely above the surface started to pick up more rapidly, and the sound of  a freight train passing by was growing louder and louder. The whole shelter shook and dust fell off the ceiling occasionally as the people in the shelter braced themselves for the worst.

Then, all too fast, it was over and the noise grew more distant.

It was still a few hours before everyone could return to their homes, though, and Masume was playing a game with some of the children to keep them calm and alleviate their fears toward the storm.

Things finally began to settle and the ninja were comfortable letting everyone out to return to their respective settlements.

Masume walked the northwest path, making sure to clear debris and branches or trees off the path and make sure everyone got where they were going safely.

Finally the group of 50 or so returned to their settlement to find it decimated by the weather. Thank God they weren't there during the storm, or most of them would be dead.

Masume helped clear debris and also helped to rebuild the remains of houses, without even being asked. The settlement hadn't been leveled, but it was still pretty bad.

Masume instructed the settlement elders that she would send a request for aid to the leaf on their behalf and then she helped repurpose the debris into makeshift shelters to keep them safe and dry in the meantime.

Then Masume headed toward Konoha, formal request for aide for that settlement in hand. When she approached the gates, she handed the paper work to the guard, who had informed her, upon her chat with him, about the fate of Man-Bear. He was extradited back to The Land of Moon.

The News shocked Masume. It was because he had crimes in The Land of the Moon in which he needed to be charged for. He then handed her a document calling her to testify as she was the one who caught him.

Without further conversation, Masume was on her way toward the docks on the southeast coast between The Land of Tea and The Land of Noodles.

This was going to be one crazy ride
