One last job in Tea country
Fri Mar 15, 2024 5:37 pm
Mission
Travin was walking down the road still making his way to the dock city to get on that ship. He was feeling a little home sick and was thinking about returning back to his birth place. He had heard rumors that some activity was happening back in the moon country, and he was wanting to check it out. However, in order to get there he needed to take the ship and he was a little short on money to get on the ship. This is the reason that he was currently sitting inside of this random tavern in another small town on his way to the dock city. Listening for any sign of potential work. At this point in his journey to get their Travin was willing to do just about anything. Sitting at the bar with a glass of whiskey in front of him and a cigarette in his mouth he had his head down just sitting there waiting for someone to mention something that fit his area of expertise. He hadn’t been sitting there long when the door swung open and a young man running out of breath of exhaustion stepped in “They are here, I saw them over the hill” the young man said as he reached and leaned onto a table. Everyone in the tavern got real quiet as a shush fell upon everyone in the room. After a few moments some people started to move around again with some of them leaving now. Travin looked up at the barkeep “Who are they” he would ask. Looking at the barkeep with a confused look on his face while he dusted the ash from his cigarette.
The barkeep would inform Travin that there had been a group of mercenary shinobi or bandits no one was really sure of. They moved from town to town in the area for the past few months, and in each town they pushed the law to the utmost point even killing people for offenses, and beating most up for minor offenses. After the first few towns word got out and people started to keep a lookout for them to get a heads up. Sadly no one is strong enough to stop them, and the Land of Tea Daimyo won’t send out any troops to put a stop to them. Travin then asked what someone would be willing to pay to make sure that they don’t stay in the area. Of course it was for his own good as well as for the people of the village. A group like that could cause a lot of problems if they started to get some backing for whatever their cause is. Making it pretty hard to do any work in this country for both himself and the other shinobi like him that didn’t really follow the letter of the law. The barkeep simply told Travin that there is a group of people that is willing to pay a very large sum of money if someone can convince them to leave this area or disband they didn’t really care either way.
Putting out his cigarette in the ashtray on the bar in front of him and tuning his glass up, Travin stood up. “You let them know that I will get these guys to leave and they will give me that money” straightening up his sword belt as he stood. Walking out of the tavern Travin turned to face the direction the young man had come from. Starting to walk with the sun setting on his back as he walked towards the darkness. He had a few ways to get them to leave and the easiest would be to slowly kill enough of them that they had no choice but to believe that they were being hunted and leave. Granted that would only work for a short time while they left and regained their numbers but it would be good enough for Travin to get paid and get out of this country before they started to do whatever it was that they were planning with the members that they currently had.
Taking a stroll through the woods Travin would keep his eyes and ears open for any sound or movement in the distance as he traveled. Taking his time as from the way the young man spoke the group was a few days away and he shouldn’t have any problems finding them or running into them. At worst it would be a scouting party which he was hoping to run into. It would appear that luck was on his side as he turned a corner and saw a few of the group that the young man described and the barkeep elaborated on for Travin. There were three men standing in the street looking around and clearing the path for a larger force. All three were wearing white with hoods pulled up, a silver chain around their neck and a bright red sash wrapped around their waist. Travin placed his hand on his Ninjato pulling it from the sheath before taking a side line of approach through the trees. Quietly getting up close to the first guy he noticed that they did not really have any shinobi training. Probably just common peasants with maybe a standard soldier in the mix of the group. Meaning that this would be much easier than he had thought it would be. With his Ninjato in hand Travin quickly at max speed lept from the bush and sliced through the first guy followed by stabbing the next guy. Leaving just the one left who was reaching for a sword he had on his back, however, the overhead draw was too slow and Travin was able to easily close and stick his Ninjato into the man's throat. Travin watched as the three men died and then started his work pulling the bodies from the road and hiding them in the woods under a fallen tree that had hollowed out. Searching the bodies gave him no information to go off of as to why they were doing what they were doing or why they were out here. Not that it really mattered too much for Travin as he was simply needing to get a bit more cash to get out of this country.
With the three dealt with and the scouts never returning, Travin kept his path and continued down the road. It didn’t take him long to find the base and get a good look at it from a nice advantage point from a hill overlooking the camp. He stood there for about an hour just watching the men go about their busy lives. It was fairly common practice from what he was seeing. They were still setting up camp when he arrived, and they were just starting to set up their watch and the tents were now up and a fire lit in the middle of the camp. From his point of look he could see about twenty men in the camp. Their leader appeared to have some training in the shinobi arts based on how he moved and carried himself. Travin figured that if he could reduce their numbers by half and then take out the leader without getting caught it should be enough to convince the group to get out of this country, and in turn let him collect his money for this job.
Turning and walking away from the camp Travin looked around in the woods till he found a nice fallen tree laid over a ditch using the tanto Travin climbed under the tree into the ditch using the tanto to cut a hole into the bark for him to climb into. Once he had the hole made in the tree Travin climbed up into it and got comfortable. It was comfortable enough for him to get some sleep. He figured that he would spend the rest of the night here in his new hole, and then spend tomorrow watching the group get settled in and see how they move and who he needs to watch out for. He already knew the leader was one that he was going to need to keep an eye on, but maybe his second in command if he could figure out who that is, and a few others.
Waking up the next day to the sound of birds chirping in the trees above. Travin rolled out of the log and into the ditch below it before climbing out of the ditch. Making his way over to the hill Travin walked up to the top of the tree. Sitting on one of the branches within some of the tree Travin watched as the group did their normal day to day. He needed to figure out some kind of pattern to their day such as when they changed patrol or sent out scouts, as well as what affects those scouts not returning had on the group. Sitting there and watching he could tell that a few were getting a little nervous as the scouts never made it. The leader was bringing people into his tent for the first few hours of the day, and people were leaving the camp in ones and twos in different directions. Travin figured that they were looking for the scouts. He kept watching and noticed that a few of the men were still walking around and organizing people. Travin figured that they must be the seconds of the group, with only two of them and the leader; it was a pretty easy job from what he was seeing. Thinking that if he took out the two seconds in command followed by the leader once he was out of the tent. All he needed to do was take out a few of the men to force one of the leaders to head out of camp as well.
As the sun started to set, Travin kept watching and he got what he wanted as one of the two second in command left the camp with one other man to take a look around. Travin followed them off the trail, staying in the woods waiting for his time. Once the leader and his man separated Travin struck, slicing the common soldier's throat as he closed the distance, sticking his blade through the leader's back before the first man's body hit the ground, and he knew what had happened. Travin then picked up the first body and carried it to the camp setting it just outside of the camp where it would be found with ease, he then returned to pick up the second body and brought it to the same location. Positioning both bodies beside each other with a sword in both of them as if they had stabbed each other and fell over. He then made his way around the camp and back to his spot where he waited for a few more men to leave or the bodies to get discovered. By the time Travin made it back to the hill that the tree he was in had grown upon he could hear the men in the camp start to cause a bit of an uprising. He was able to make it in time to see what was going on, and to watch the leader come out of the tent and start to yell at everyone. He was unable to tell what he was saying but he was able to tell that they was trying to calm everyone down and let them know that everything was fine. Probably telling them that the two that he had killed just a few hours ago now had gotten into a fight or something and killed each other, and that they could not say anything about the scouting party till they either found a body, or they all returned.
He could tell that he was only needing to push it a little further and the rest would run with their tails between their legs. He came up with a plan and all he had to do was wait for the sun to finish setting. Once the sun had gone down Travin made his way down the hill and into the camp. He had killed enough of the men in the camp to lower the population making it easy for him to sneak into the camp and get up behind the leaders tent. He could hear him walk out the entrance of the tent and tell someone something, but he really didn’t care what he was telling him as he pulled his tanto and sliced open the back of the tent and slide in. Travin took a spot behind one of the dressers and waited for the leader to come in. Once he did, Travin moved, placing the tanto into the man's throat stopping him from being able to scream. He then returned back out the way he came.
Returning to his spot on the hill Travin stayed long enough to watch the group turn tail and leave. He had finished this job and would be able to return back to the tavern and collect his money.
