Seikatsu finally returned to the place where his journey had begun—New Moon Academy. The name was particularly apt, reflecting both the aspiration of those who trained there and the celestial theme of Tsukigakure. He found himself genuinely impressed by the creativity and the clever wordplay in the academy's name. Creativity was something Seikatsu often felt he lacked, whether due to a missing innate talent or simply a lack of passion for it, so he admired these thoughtful touches.
The young man, not yet fully mature but on the cusp of manhood, entered the academy with a mix of nervous excitement and determination. Today was significant; it marked a potential turning point in his life as he headed towards the room where testing was conducted. This examination could potentially elevate him from a mere outsider to an official shinobi of the village. His steps echoed in the quiet hall as he approached room 1-8. A small sigh of relief escaped him when he noticed he wouldn’t have to climb any stairs—Seikatsu was secretly pleased about this small mercy. His journey to the academy had been particularly draining today, laden with not just physical but emotional weight as well.
He paused in front of the door that bore the room number, taking a moment to gather his thoughts and steady his breathing. Inside, he knew, lay a series of challenges that would test his skills, determination, and readiness to join the village ranks as a shinobi. It was a moment he had prepared for all his life, and despite the fatigue, there was an undercurrent of eagerness and anticipation. He hoped that soon enough, his efforts would be recognized, and he would be welcomed into the fold, taking his place among the protectors of Tsukigakure. Today was about proving himself worthy - and then shaping his desire to become powerful.
Seikatsu's fingertips grasped the handle of the door, sliding it open and then confidently stepping into the classroom. To his dismay, he realized he was the only one there - it seemed that no others would be joining him on this journey, although this did not particularly bother him. He assumed the next step was to approach the front desk, where a single piece of paper lay, seemingly waiting just for him. As he walked forward, he could feel nervousness swelling within him, generating tiny beads of sweat along his forehead and creating a clammy feeling in his palms. However, he knew this was nothing that a few deep breaths couldn't alleviate. Thus, as Seikatsu took his seat, he allowed his eyes to close briefly to calm himself.
”As the proctor of this portion of the exam - it is my duty to ensure the trustworthiness of you, the test taker, as well as your ability to answer the questions on the sheet of paper in a timely manner. When you are ready to begin… your one hour will commence.”
The proctor, who hadn’t even bothered to introduce himself, took his seat behind the front desk in the classroom. It allowed his vantage point to be what would be everyone in the room, in this instance of course that would only be Seikatsu. There certainly wouldn't be any cheating involved in this exam, not that Seikatsu had thought about that, it’s just he had never really taken a written exam before. The young man took the pencil that was hovering the paper and used his fingers to grip around it, officially beginning this portion of his exam. The first thing he did was place his name up at the top of the sheet and then skim through, trying to understand all of the questions that were being asked.
”Well this is interesting - all of these questions seem to be of the common sense variety. It’s nothing that’s actually too difficult to understand when you think about what’s supposed to be in real events or scenarios.”
A wry smile crept onto Seikatsu’s face as he settled into the task at hand, methodically working through the exam, answering each of the questions that had been laid out on the paper before him. Unlike typical assessments he had faced in the past, none of the questions presented were multiple choice; each required a thoughtful, written response, demanding not just knowledge but the ability to articulate it clearly, which naturally consumed the majority of his time.
As the minutes ticked by, Seikatsu remained focused and composed, his pen moving steadily across the page. By the time he reached the forty-minute mark, he had completed all twenty questions of the exam. With a sense of relief mixed with anticipation, he placed his pencil down on the desk, straightening his papers with a finality that signaled he was done. He then looked up and caught the proctor’s attention, quietly notifying them of his completion, ready to step forward from this challenge to the next phase of his journey.
The proctor looked up towards Seikatsu, showing absolutely zero emotion. He grabbed the exam from the desk and took it back to where he was. Taking a minute to look it over, he realized that each question had been answered correctly. Maybe there was potential with-in this kid after-all, at least that’s what his thought was. He stood up and would provide the last bit of instruction, detailing what Seikatsu would need to do to ensure he passed the final exam. The last thing he was told was to head to Shinod Springs… so wherever that was at, that’s where he was heading currently.
