Genin Exam
Fri Aug 16, 2024 6:17 pm
Tenizen didn't stay at the academy very long. He actually never really made it to an official class. He did the intake with a bunch of other students and must have made an impression on the teacher because she offered him a private lesson. She was kind enough to visit him after class and teach him both the clone technique and the transformation technique. These were the basics required to take the genin exam.
Ten’s entire life had been spent doing intense training. This advanced training let him pick up on these jutsu and others like genjutsu release very quickly. Physically he was already faster and stronger than most other kids. His ability with the sword was not something the academy could teach or improve upon. So both Ten and the teacher agreed there wasn't a lot of benefit to him remaining in the academy.
When it came time for the exam, Tenizen was surprisingly super confident! There were three different proctors that were going to test him today. One was a grizzled old man, the other a younger but equally grizzled teenager, and the third was the teacher from the academy.
Tenizen approached the three proctors and politely bowed in front of them. The oldest proctor instructed him to perform both the clone jutsu and the transformation jutsu. Ten did as requested without hesitation. He wasn't the best at these but he was proficient enough to pass with no problem.
The second test was a written test. It was testing his knowledge on many different subjects. Ten excelled with the questions relating to combat but struggled some with some of the more precise questions such as formations and tidbits on chakra. He wasn’t raised as a scholar and his formal education was lacking. He didn't feel like he did that bad overall but it was hard to tell.
The final test was the one where he was confident he could make up any lost ground. It was a trial of combat. The teacher presented him with a thin black katana. She herself wielded a twin weapon and the two took up their dueling stances. The two came together quickly in a violent clash. They exchanged blows wildly for a minute or so to feel eachother out. Ten quickly realized he was the superior swordsman.
With a lazy flick of his wrist Ten disarmed the teacher when she came in for an ill timed thrusting attack. Ten followed it up with a gracful swipe of his own blade he ended the battle in one decisive movement. His plade stopped just inches before her throat in what would have been a fatal strike. Gasps could be heard from the other two proctors.
The older proctor stood from his chair and walked over to the female instructor. The two quietly whispered back and forth in a voice too low for the young swordsman to hear. After the quick exchange the teacher handed over her sword to the elderly proctor. The man took up a stance indicative of wanting to fight.
You seem very capable with the sword! I would like to see just how skilled you are. I have spent my life mastering various weapons. If you can beat me then you are more than deserving then the rank of genin!
His tone suggested that if he could win this fight then Ten would pass. Ten would have fought him just for fun but the extra motivation was enough to have his muscles pulsing with excitement. Just the man's stance alone radiated with years of experience. The only swordsman he met that emitted the same level of skill was his former master.
When the two met it was an immediate clash for the ages. The man is much older and nearly twice Ten’s size. His movements were slower because of that but there was a degree of precision and strength in his attacks that made up for it. Ten was a talented swordsman who was very fast, but he could not get his own attacks to come anywhere close to landing.
Sparks and loud metallic bangs permeated the entire area. Ten used his small frame and high level of acrobatics to constantly dash around the man looking for openings. The old badger was definitely talented in his own right. There was virtually no wasted energy in his movements, his defense was flawless, and he was as strong as an Ox!
Ten was forced to take an offensive style because he would be unable to endure more than a couple blows in succession. The man's form was beginning to frustrate the young warrior. Ten quickly deduced that his best course of action was to try and prolong the fight. With ten being younger he should be able to outlast him if he did not exert too much energy. If he could avoid any mistakes then there was a chance an opening would appear at some point.
Tenizen toned down his movements to conserve energy. He went from offensive to a more give and take style of swordplay. It was like the two fighters were playing a game of chess. Tenizen was forced to think multiple moves in advance just to not get taken down. Eventually though the proctor's movements began to slow. His chest was thumping up and down and a bead of sweat broke across his brow. It was at that moment that Tenizen knew he had this in the bag!
I got you motherfucker!
Ten thought to himself as he caught the proctor stumble ever so slightly backwards. It was a very miniscule movement and almost unnoticeable to the naked eye. That small action altered his timing in just a way that was Ten able to take the take full advantage a few moves down the line. With a perfect parry he disarmed the veteran and simultaneously spun around him gracefully to strike at him diagonally in the back. He stopped just before the blade made contact in what looked like a perfect pose. He held the stance for a minute just to further demonstrate how decisively he won and add style points!
[color=orange]In all my years only a handful of people could have defeated me with a blade in the way that you did just now. You have great potential young master! It is my honor to present you with the rank of genin!
