Another shift at the hospital Empty Another shift at the hospital

Sun Apr 03, 2016 5:03 pm
Togi woke before the sun had risen and silently slipped out of bed. Today the young Genin was signed up for another shift volunteering at the hospital but before he went he wanted to go over some of the notes on medical jutsu that he had been lent the last time that he had volunteered at the hospital. Quickly washing his face in a bowl of water Togi dressed in his standard light grey robes. With the simple tasks that he could perform without sight out of the way Togi clapped his hands together and formed a tiger hand seal before channelling his chakra to activate the Hansho Byakugan. This was an old habit that Togi had, by now his control of his chakra was more than sufficient to activate the bloodline without the hand seal but he still continued to use it. With his unique form of vision restored Togi quickly grabbed a pastry and a glass of juice from the small kitchen area and set it down on his table, next Togi went over to his bookcase and retrieved a couple of scrolls. Sitting down at the table Togi then carefully unrolled the first scroll and smiled. These scrolls were special, they had been written with chakra infused ink which meant that not only would the ink last a lot longer without fading but the words were also visible to Togi's chakra based sight.

Quickly running down the list Togi quickly checked off which jutsus he knew and which he he had not learnt. "Ok so I have learnt basic medical ninjutsu at both the beginner and intermediate levels, I have also learnt the anaesthetic jutsu and most importantly the mystical palm technique..." Togi listed. "That should serve me well enough in the minor injury unit, I should be able treat most cuts and bruises, scrapes and burns and even fractures and breaks..." the young Hyuuga thought out loud "Though if I ever need to treat anything more serious I might need to learn some of these other techniques... the chakra scalpel for example is a must if I ever want to be able to perform surgery and I will also bees to learn it if I want to learn delicate illness extraction so I can treat poisons and some diseases...." Togi continued before biting on his lower lip slightly as he thought. "Body replication sounds like a pretty amazing ability aswell to be able to restore lost limbs or organs and then there's chakra absorption to be able to treat chakra overload and chakra poisoning..." Togi finished before sitting back in his chair slightly overwhelmed.

Picking up the pastry Togi took a bite and slowly chewed as he considered what to do. 'Most of those jutsu require a live patient to practice on but I could atleast practice forming the chakra scalpels on my own easily enough' Togi decided. 'Forming the blades should hopefully be not to difficult as thanks to the gentle fist I am already proficient in channelling chakra to my hands...' Togi thought as he swallowed and took another bite if the pastry. Quickly finishing off his food Togi then took a gulp of his juice before pushing it to one side.

Togi then unfurled the section of scroll that refereed to the chakra scalpels technique. "Wow that's a lot of hand seals considering I don't use any for the gentle fist!" Togi exclaimed in surprise. "So it's tiger then horse then rabbit then rat and finally dog." Togi recited before bringing his hands together. "Tiger, Horse, Rabbit, Rat, Dog" the young Hyuuga then repeated over and over as he practiced the hand seals until he was confident he could perform them all together in a quick string. Togi then performed the hand seals once again this time moulding and channelling his chakra. The young Hyuuga then felt a familiar rush as chakra began to rush down his arms and began to pool in his hands. Unlike the gentle fist though Togi had to hold this chakra there instead of injecting it in to an opponent. This Togi achieved quite easily as by now the Hyuuga medic was quite adept at chakra control but when he focussed his chakra vision on the blades the young Medic frowned. While yes there was the bright glow of chakra concentrated at his hands it did not appear to be sharp in the slightest. To test this Togi nudged the table with the side of his hand and sure enough nothing happened not even the slightest of scratches appeared in the wood of the table. "Well I guess that was a start..." Togi exclaimed as he let the chakra dissipate.

'So what am I doing wrong?' Togi thought to himself as he say back in his chair. 'I appear to be gathering the chakra correctly but it's not taking the shape that I want it to...' Togi continued to think. 'Thats it this jutsu requires shape manipulation, it's just like when I was fixing the broken bone and I had to focus on keeping my chakra solid and giving it a shape..' Togi silently declared.

"Ok let's try that again Tiger, Horse, Rabbit, Rat, Dog" Togi declared as he once again ran through the hand seals and channelled chakra to his hands. This time as soon as the chakra reached his hands Togi concentrated on forming blades with it. Firstly he concentrated on making the chakra solid so that it had a physical presence and could actually touch things then he focussed on making the chakra become thinner and thinner the further it got from his hand. After a short while of experimentation and effort Togi eventually seemed to get the desired result. Needing to test the scalpels and not wanting to slice gouges out of his table Togi retrieved an apple from his kitchen. The young Hyuuga then ran the edge of the chakra across the apple but all that happened was the apple rolled away. 'Damm I thought I had it that time...' Togi thought to himself as he let the scalpel dissipate. 'I must be getting close though...' Togi thought to himself.

Not wanting to be late for his shift at the hospital Togi decided that was enough practice for now and he carefully rolled up the scroll and placed it inside his robes along with another scroll that had his ninja equipment selaed away in. Togi then retrieved his forehead protector and fastened it in place on his forehead. Slipping out of the building and on to the streets of Suna Togi noted that it was still cool out meaning the sun had likely still not risen. The young genin then slowly made hiw way across the village and towards the hosital, unlike his first time Togi now felt a lot less apprehensive, while the day would likely still be a challenge for the young ninja he had a better idea of what to expect.

Once he reached the hospital building Togi headed straight inside without hesitation this time and headed for the main reception desk, before he could reach the counter however he was intercepted by moderately sized chakra signature. "Ah Togirama-san wasn’t it? Good to see you again. Are you here to volunteer again?" a masculine voice declared that Togi barely recognised as one of the hospitals full time doctors.

"Yes sir, I am here to offer my services if you have need of me" The young Hyuuga replied slightly bowing as he did so.

"Excellent, excellent... were a little low on staff today so we could do with all the help we can get!" the doctor replied. "I heard from Seya-chan that you handled your self admirably last time and that you have a good grasp of the basic techniques... now with that said I'd like for you to work in the minor injury unit again today however I would like for you to work on your own, there will ofcourse be other nurses and medics there if you need assistance but for the most part you will be on your own. Do you think you are up to that?" the doctor questioned.

Togi gulped slightly but eventually the young Hyuuga nodded. It was a lot of responsibility to have but when he seriously thought about it it would be a great learning experience and the straight forward injuries he should be able to handle and for anything more complicated he could seek assistance. 'Yes sir I believe I am up to the task!' Togi declared as he stood straight and to attention.

"Very good Togirama Hyuuga, your patients are this way then  please claim a booth and get yourself ready then once you are prepared you may call the first patient in..." the doctor declared waving his hand towards a corridor that Togi knew from experience led to a patient waiting area. Togi nodded and slowly headed down the way he had been shown, while he had said he was up to the task Togi was rather hesitant to be working in the hospital alone. As he made his way over to an unoccupied both the young Hyuuga medic was quite relieved to notice the familar chakra signature of nurse Seya working nearby. 'At least if I get in over my head I know that Seya-san is close by to help...' Togi thought to himself.

'Ok I can do this...' Togi thought to himself as he took a deep breath to calm himself. Togi then walked over to the small desk in the waiting area where a reception sat. "Can I have the next patient's name please...." Togi exclaimed politely. "Yazan Terata, he has a kunai wound to to the arm" the receptionist replied. "Thank you" Togi then declared with a slight dip of his head. The young Hyuuga then stepped forwards and raised his voice."Yazan Terata" Togi called out in a clear voice. Letting his chakra senses wash over the room Togi noted an individual with a small chakra signature stood up and began to make his way over. 'Likely an academy student or newly graduated Genin though I don't recognise the name...' Togi thought to himself as the boy approached. Focussing his senses on the boy Togi noted that as expected due to having an injured arm the chakra in his arm was disturbed."This way please Yazan-san..." Togi exclaimed  beckoning the boy in to the booth. As soon as the boy entered togi then pulled the curtain closed. "Hmmm the wound is quite shallow it should be as good as new in a minute..." Togi exclaimed as he continued to focus on the boy's arm. While the chakra was disturbed it did not seem to be disturbed to badly suggesting that the wound was mostly superficial. 'Using the mystical palm technique would likely be a waste of chakra for such a small wound so I should probably use the basic medical jutsu instead, I should probably learn to conserve my chakra so that I can treat the maximum amount of patients' Togi thought to himself. "Now relax this won't hurt a bit..." Togi declared as he began to perform a short string forming the Boar, Rat and Snake hand seal as he moulded and channelled his chakra. Hand glowing with medical chakra Togi then held his hand out and held it a short distance above the long cut that the kunai had caused. Slowly at first the wound began to knit itself back together before the skin reformed leaving in its place a healthy arm.

After bidding a good bye to his first patient Togi returned to the receptionist and called in a second, again the patient was a young boy with a injury sustained in a spar and again the wound was easily treated with the basic medical jutsu. It seemed that the waiting room was filled with patients that had sustained these minor cuts and scrapes and Togi got to treat five of these cases before anything different was given to him. "Hoza Saskanin, previously treated for a seriously broken arm and here for his cast to be removed." the receptionist replied when Togi asked for his next patient. "Hoza Saskanin" Togi called out somewhat hesitantly as he wasn't sure how he was supposed to remove the cast. As togi waited for someone to answer his call he noted that the person who stood up had a larger and more denser chakra than those he had treated so far suggesting that they were perhaps more experienced ninja. Once the patient had sat down Togi considered the problem. 'I could perhaps cut the cast off with a kunai but I doubt that would look very professional and I have not been given any special equipment to remove a cast...' Togi thought to himself. 'I guess the chakra scapel technique should be able to cut through the material of the cast with little resistance and since I will not be using them on a patient it should be a relatively safe way to practice..' Togi thought to himself. "Ok Hoza-san please hold still..." Togi then instructed. Togi then carefully began running through a set of hand seals. 'Tiger, Horse, Rabbit, Rat, Dog' Togi then silently recited as he moulded and channelled chakra to his hand. The young Hyuuga's hands then began to glow blue as he focussed on forcing the chakra in to solidifying and sharpening. With concerted effort Togi maintained the blades at the sides of his hand Togi then slowly and very carefully moved his hand over to the patient's arm until the edge of his chakra blade touched the solid cast. As the two met Togi felt a lot of resistance but as he applied a little bit of pressure the blade slowly carved its way through the cast. 'Hmmm I thought that the chakra scalpels were supposed to cut through most materials with limited resistance I must not be making them sharp enough yet...' Togi thought to himself as he let the blade dissipate.

"All done Hoza-san..." Togi then declared as he discarded the cast. Togi then focussed his chakra senses in on the man's arm to look for any abnormalities in the man's chakra but finding none he instead waved the man out and bid him a good day.

Returning to the receptionist Togi then once again returned to calling in patients one after the other

and treating their minor cuts and scrapes with a basic medical jutsu. This continued for several hours before a nurse poked her head in to Togi's booth after he had dismissed his last patient. "Togi-san it's time for your lunch break I will take over for now..." A feminine voice declared. "Thankyou that is most kind of you." Togi then replied with a slight bow before slipping out of the booth and heading for where he knew a small staff room was located.

Another shift at the hospital Empty Re: Another shift at the hospital

Tue Apr 05, 2016 3:52 am
Reaching the door of the staff room Togi suddenly realised that the last time that there was a seal on the door and the last time that he had been here nurse Seya had channelled her chakra inorder to unlock the door. Fortunately to the Hansho Byakugan the seal was glowing brightly and Togi located it immediately. Raising his hand up Togi pressed it against the seal and channelled a small amount of chakra and then... nothing happened. Frowning slightly Togi tried again channelling a little but more chakra this time. Once again the door or the seal did not react in the slightest. 'I guess the seal does not recognise my chakra...' Togi thought to himself in disappointment as he extended his chakra senses to peer in to the room beyond. Fortunately there were chakra signatures inside one of which Togi recognised. Falling back on an old proven method to get a door open Togi knocked and waited for someone to come to the door.

"Ah Togi-san good to see you again. Not been added to the security seals yet I see, well come in" Nurse Seya greeted as she waved the young ninja inside. "So how have you been getting on with the medical jutsu scroll that I gave you?" the young woman then questioned.

"It is good to see you again aswell Seya-san" Togi replied with a small smile and a slight bow of his head. "It would seem not..." Togi then agreed. "How do I go about getting added to the seals it would be rather impractical to have to get you to open every locked door for me" Togi replied. "I have been getting on very well thank you, I have already learnt a lot though recently I have been having some slight difficulties with one particular jutsu" the young aspiring medic then revealed.

"If you let main reception know they should be able to organise for your chakra signature to be added to the seals though I doubt it will be quick as we will need one of the villages Fuinjutsu specialists to do it " the young nurse replied. "So what's the jutsu that your having trouble with and what exactly is the problem? Perhaps I can help..." Seya offered.

"Well it is the chakra scalpel technique, I am able to create and maintain the blades however when I use them to cut something I am getting a lot of resistance as though the blades are not that sharp...." Togi explained.

"Ah yes that's a common problem, the chakra scalpels need to be incredibly sharp and if you don't know what you are doing it can be very difficult to achieve this" Seya replied. "The trick to the technique is a lot like the application of wind release jutsu...you need to visualise grinding your chakra together and sharpening it to a point. You need to visualise the sharpest blade imaginable so sharp that it could cut you and you would not even realise." the young nurse explained.

"I see... Thankyou...." Togi replied as he thought about the advice he had just been given. Moving in to the room Togi raised his hands and began running through the hand seals for the jutsu.

"Not going to rest Huh? Well I'll fix you a cup ramen then" Seya declared with a slight chuckle before heading for the small kitchen area in the room.

Moulding his chakra Togi once again channeled it to his hands coating them in chakra and forming that chakra in to blades. This time the young medic nin visualised on grinding his chakra together and sharpening it until it was razor sharp. It took a large amount of focus and concentration to do this and the young Hyuuga was not even sure that he was doing it correctly. All Togi knew was that doing what he was doing now took a lot more mental strain to how he was doing it before. Hopefully this was a good sign tough equally it could mean that he was now doing it completely wrong and wasting his chakra.

"Think fast!" Togi suddenly heard Seya call as she suddenly hurled something small and round towards him. Reacting on instinct Togi brought his hand up and attempted to deflect the object with the side of his hand, as soon as the object came in to contact with the blade of chakra at the side of the young Genin's hand it was immediately cleaved cleanly in to two equal pieces. "Looks like you managed to make it sharper!" Seya declared as she walked over and picked up the two halves of the apple that she had thrown.

Togi meanwhile smiled to himself, the chakra scalpels did indeed seem sharper though were they as sharp as they were supposed to be? Focussing in with his chakra senses Togi began to carefully examine the chakra that made up the blades. When focussed the Hansho Byakugan was capable of zooming in to incredible amounts aslong as the object of interest contained chakra, it was after all capable of viewing the tenketsu. Togi was no expert on weapons but under the scrutiny of his chakra vision he was pretty confident that the blades of the scalpels were now at the very least sharper than a Kunai. After a good few moments of studying the chakra blades Togi then let the jutsu slip away and the blades fade away to nothingness.

"Here you go Togi-san" Seya declared handing over a cup of instant ramen as they both sat down at a small table in the staff room. "I suggested you really do take a break now or else you will have no chakra left for the patients this afternoon" the nurse declared.

"Thankyou again Seya-san both for lunch and all of your help..." Togi declared gratefully

"Don't mention it after all the more you can do the more I can relax" Seya joked.

Feeling that he now had a somewhat better grasp of the technique Togi relaxed and tucked in to his lunch, there would be plenty of time for practice later but if he was going to have to be treating patients for the rest of the afternoon then he was going to need all of the energy that he could get. Halfway through his lunch Seya bid him farewell and slipped out of the room leaving him on his own. The rest of Togi's lunch break went quickly and all to soon the new Genin found himself leaving the room aswell and heading back towards the minor injuries unit.

When Togi got back to the waiting area he found it strangely quiet, the majority of the chakra signatures that he detected in the immediate area he recognised as staff who worked in the hospital and the few he did not  recognise and were therefore likely patients already seemed to be receiving treatment by the staff. 'Well I guess I just wait...' Togi thought to himself as he took a seat and began to run through the hand seals for the chakra scalpels technique in order to keep himself occupied. 'I guess most training accidents happen early while people are still tired and less coordinated and maybe late aswell when they are tiring again' Togi silently added.

An hour passed and Togi's hand seal practice was only interrupted once by an elderly patient who had managed to fall down and cut themselves on some rocks. The bleeding proved to be surprisingly persistent so much so that a basic medical jutsu was not enough to stop it and Togi for the first time that day was forced to use the mystical palm technique.

The rest of the shift began to drag as patients continued to come in only sporadically. Togi managed to get plenty of hand seal practice in between occasional treating patients until he was suddenly disturbed by the doctor who had greeted him earlier suddenly rushing in. "Ah Togirama-san your free excellent!" the doctor declared in an apparent rush. "We need to borrow your eyes!" the man then declared incredibly bluntly.

"My eyes?" Togi replied in surprise as his eyebrow made a break for the top of his head. 'I doubt my eyes would do you or anyone any good' Togi silently added.

The doctor however ploughed on oblivious to the fact that he had struck a nerve. "Yes your a Hyuuga correct? We have a patient in theatres who was trying to develop his in own juts , but it went wrong, badly wrong..." the doctor explained. Togi was now intrigued and all thought of the badly worded comment about his eyes went out if his head. "It appears that the kid was trying to create some kind of defensive self repairing rock armour. The only problem is that most of his upper body is now encased in the rock armour and it's draining his chakra..." the doctor began. "We have tried to remove it but any damage we cause to it causes the armour to drain his chakra even faster as it repairs itself and to further complicate matters any chakra based technique it begins to drain aswell. We need to know what's going on under the surface and that's where you come in!" the doctor explained.

"Oh I would ofcourse like to be of assistance but..." Togi began but he got to say no more as at that point the doctor grabbed him by the shoulder and the next momement they had suddenly appeared in an operating theatre. There were a lot of people gathered round in the relatively small room all most likely medical nin of some kind. They were circling a large metal table that had a boy laid out across it, the top half of the boy's body was badly misshapen covered in random bulging formations of rock. You could tell at a glance that this jutsu was not complete not only was the covering of rock not uniform but it's placement was so haphazard that it would obstruct the users movement it even obscured half the boy's face.

Togi's attention was immediately drawn to the boy, while Togi was aware of the other chakra signatures in the room all of which were decently sized it was the uniqueness of the boy's chakra that held his attention. The boy was an intense mass of bright glowing and active chakra, the chakra signature however was not coming from the boy itself it was coming from the rock. While the boy did have chakra of his own it was incredibly weak and faint. It was almost as though the boy and the rock were two different entities. The doctor had begun to talk to him once again but Togi was so focussed that he hardly heard.

"The boy's chakra is so incredibly weak something needs to be done immediately..." Togi exclaimed in almost a whisper. Concentrating Togi then focussed the powers of the Hansho Byakugan studying the rock in minute detail. It was some of the densest and most solid chakra that he had ever encountered yet it acted like a vacuum sucking all chakra in the immediate viscosity towards it. The medic nin had apparently not noticed but when they got close it was siphoning off small amounts of their chakra aswell. "It's almost like a chakra parasite draining whatever chakra it comes close enough to..." Togi exclaimed as he carefully examined the rock. 'What kind of damage would you have to do to this thing inorder to destroy it but not injure the patient...' Togi wondered as he continued to examine the rock hoping to find something useful.

Togi suddenly let out a shocked gasp bit believing what he was seeing. "It's growing out of the tenketsu!" Togi declared in amazement. "The rock has what I can only describe as roots growing straight out of the tenketsu..." the young Hyuuga quickly added in wonder.

"Hmmm that would explain why it has such a string hold of his chakra! Can we remove them?" the doctor questioned.

"I do not know, it is possible that they will simply regenerate like the armour itself but if we were to completely sever them there might be a chance" Togi replied with a thoughtful look. Togi then very slowly raised his hands up and began to very carefully form seals. 'These are going to need to be the sharpest blades I can possibly imagine...' Togi thought to himself as he formed a set of chakra scalpels. Focusing on an area that had only one rock root burying in to a tenketsu Togi then thrust his hand forwards and plunged his chakra blade in to the rock. Togi at first felt a lot of resistance and felt the armour attempt to drain away the chakra from his blades but with a lot of concentration and a little force he managed to move the blade to where he needed it to be. 'I can do this! Just hold it together...' Togi then silently declared before with one final movement he severed the root. The results were instantaneous as soon as the root was severed the rock in the area began to crumble and fall away.

"Great work Togirama-san, we now have a way to fight this. Nurse I need you to give the patient a chakra infusion so that he does not suffer from chakra starvation during the procedure. Togirama-san I need you to sever as many roots as possible, if you get low on chakra I will need you to direct some one else." the doctor instructed taking command.

"Hai!" Both Togi and the nurse replied the nurse moving to the base of the bed to make sure that the patient had a constant supply of chakra while Togi focussed on the next tenketsu with a root growing out of it. Once again as soon as Togi plunged the scalpel in to the rock he felt both a drain and resistance, the young Hyuuga had to fight to keep the blade stable but with a quick flick of the wrist he severed another root and yet more rock crumbled away. Togi then moved on to the third root this time moving at greater speed and found while the resistance remained the same he encountered less of a chakra drain. As the third root was severed yet more rock crumbled and fell to the floor. It was a long procedure and there were over two dozen roots that needed to be severed but eventually it was over and the young Chuunin was free of rock though by this point Togi was thoroughly exhausted.

"Excellent work Togirama-san now I think you should get yourself home and get some well earned rest!" the doctor declared patting the young Hyuuga Genin on the back.

Togi smiled a small proud but tired smile. "Thank you sir I am very happy that I could help" Togi declared earnestly. "But how do I get out I am not sure how we got here?" Togi questioned.

"Ah yes we were in a bit of a hurry to get up here weren't we... Come on I'll walk you out..." the doctor declared directing him to the door to theatres and eventually out of the building.
