Yūgure's Genin Prereq #1
Sun Sep 18, 2016 12:37 pm
Yūgure was beyond ecstatic, the long awaited day had finally arrived. He’d woken up early so that he could be early, because it's not everyday that you get to learn your first ninjutsu. As soon as he packed up his things he was out the door, filled with pure speed and ferocity. He'd made it halfway through the village before he came to realization that he'd forgot his bag that his bag was at home. He cursed himself, realizing that this simple mistake was going to make him late to the academy. He managed to make it home and grab the bag in record time. It’s times like these that make Yūgure wish he knew the body flicker technique.
He hardly made it though the front entrance after the doors start to move. While rushing to class Yūgure could hardly keep his normal composure, he was more than ready to learn his first real jutsu. He's had his Byakugan for as long as he could remember and wields it better than any master could, but growing up without anybody never gave him the opportunity to learn other jutsu. Most of the other students had their parents who passed down their own knowledge and jutsu to their children. But Yūgure would never get to experience the unexplainable feeling of joy that results from learning a jutsu that's been passed down from your parents’ parents’ parents’. Today however, isn't the day for him to focus on all the hardships that he's had to endure, he was just looking forward to finally being able to learn the clone technique!
Yūgure had just started to walk in the doors when the school bells tolled, shocking him into losing his grip on the door slammed closed with a deafening crash. The day that he’d been waiting years for was already off to a rough start. “Great of you to finally join us Hyuuga.” The contempt emanating from his voice was nearly tangible. “I’m sorry Gorami-sensei, I had forgotte-” before Yūgure was even able finish, Gorami boomed with his intense, yet cold voice “I don't grade you based on excuses boy. Just get in your seat before I'm forced to waste even more time with your existence.” The class was filled with stifled laughter as Yūgure walked over to an isolated seat in the back corner.
The rest of the class was mostly uneventful, and was mainly spent learning the various limitations that the clones are subject to and what they're incapable of doing in combat. Yūgure generally isn't the victim of jokes or harassment and, besides the initial bout at the beginning, today was hardly different than any other. Gorami-sensei went over each of the signs for the clone jutsu dozens upon dozens of times. The images of the handsigns felt as though they were burned into Yūgure retina’s for the rest of time. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Over and over and over and over.
The time for actually performing the jutsu has come, and Yūgure knew that he surely would not fail. All of this is even despite the fact that Yū hardly knows how to channel his own chakra well. He watched student after student go up and perform the clone technique with ease, only a few struggled. And while this is happening Yūgure can feel the spotlight drifting ever closer to him. His seat in the corner gave him plenty of time to practice the handsigns, and it wasn't until the very end of the day that he was called upon to demonstrate in front of the class. As he walked towards the front of the class, all he could hear inside his head was “Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger. Ram, Snake, Tiger.” just replaying over and over and over.
When Yūgure finally made it to the front of the room Gorami-sensei welcomed him with one of his usual snide remarks, “Are you ready to show the class what the so called true ‘genius’ of the Hyuuga looks like? Or are you going to end up another nobody among the dozens of dropouts.” Yūgure ignored his comments. He only focused on putting every last bit of chakra that he could manage to muster into his handsigns, “Ram. Snake. Tig-” before he could even finish saying the final sign the room went up in smoke. Just as the air started to clear bells started to ring in the distance, signaling the end of the day.
The students leapt out of the left the building with speed rivaling that of the Ancient Raikage. Yūgure didn't budge a muscle however. He stood there and simply waited until the students had fully left the room. Once everybody was in a safer environment he began resuming the hand signs. “Ram, Snake, Tiger.” this time a much, much smaller cloud was produced, even though it didn't cause a ruckus it was equally as pathetic as his first attempt. He stood in the room for hours failing time and time again. “Ram, Snake, Tiger.” Fail. The room grew dark as the sun faded further into the horizon. Gorami had constantly been checking in on Yūgure’s relentless effort. For whatever reason, Gorami said something as he was leaving. He shook his head in disbelief of the absurdity of the situation and said just one short sentence as he continued on his way; “You’ve been confusing the snake handsign, you've been making the sign for dog”. Gorami didn't even so much as glance back at Yūgure as he left the building.
Yūgure sighed deeply and watched his hands as he put the signs in order. “Ram. Snake. Tiger.” A plume of smoke appeared by him, and as the smoke faded he saw a near perfect copy of himself. Yūgure, having figured out how to create the clone repeated it several times to prove to himself that it wasn't just a mere fluke. Gorami-sensei called Yū over to impart some words before we depart for the weekend “Hey, Hyuuga. The only reason you messed up the jutsu was because you were too afraid of what the world might you might say. That's all I can tell you kid, now go home.
He came home as quickly as his body could bring carry him. Once he made it in the door, Yū proceeded to immediately fall into the deepest sleep that's humanly possible. Normally he'd never break so casually, but he almost completely exhausted his chakra while performing the handsign did this so he'd be fully rested and capable of going at it with his training all weekend.
