Dad Give Your Only Child Attention (P,Training)
Mon Dec 12, 2016 4:55 pm
A few months after he had learned the basic medical technique, little Gunbai was sitting in his father's office reading a textbook on the applications of medical chakra. Flicking through it half heartedly he found that he was beginning to already know many of the general concepts explained within, while at the same time learning many others in the process. It was enlightening to know that although he might now begin to grasp the basics of this craft, there was so much for him to learn and discover. All in due time of course, he wouldn't want to end up like all the unfortunate accidents that were described in certain accounts of procedures gone wrong. Flicking through another page on the use of anesthetics through chakra he found himself lingering for a while, noting that it detailed a semi-invasive technique to deny nerve endings the ability to send pain signals to the brain by injecting their own chakra into the patient's system. Certainly it must be cheaper as it would not require the use of normal anesthetic when operating however he pondered on its uses when the patient had already existing injuries that would be aggravated upon activation of the technique. Would it end up being a help or a hindrance? He pondered this for a while, not recognizing the presence of another within a room until a voice shocked him back into the present.
“Gunbai? Your father wants you in the clinic.” That was his mother, looking down at him passively as though she had merely been a courier to deliver a message and not his family member. Nodding, he closed the book and put it aside for a later date before walking out of the office and down the stairs, rounding a few corners until he entered the clinic. His eyes adjusted to the bright white tile of the room after a few moments and he found his dad already waiting for him and a patient next to him sleeping soundly with a sheet over most of the body save for the chest.
“Wash your hands.” His father stated immediately and Gunbai complied, going over the sink and purging whatever dirt and imperfections were still on his skin from the day's activities. After a full minute of scrubbing his hands were slightly raw but clean and he turned to his father once again hoping for an explanation as to why he had been summoned.
“Today I will be having you assist me in an operation.” Gunbai’s eyed widened in surprise. “Not the full task,” His eyes went back to normal width. “But with the preparation beforehand. I trust that you have been reading through the textbook which I assigned to you? An affirmative nod. “Than I can expect that you have passed chapter four.” Another sign of confirmation. “And you understood the basics of the technique outlined?”
Slowly the details began to fall into place for Gunbai and he understood why exactly he had been called forward by his father today. Seems that he would be a living application of anesthetic. He wasn’t quite sure to be honored or insulted by it but chose to former so as to earn the positive response of his father.
“Now, in order to use this technique,” His father began, “You must first channel chakra from your core to your hands, like in most techniques.” His father paused, and he assumed that he had done so. “However, you must guide it further than that. Not to the palms, but to the fingertips.” Again, another pause. Gunbai wondered for a second why his father wasn’t doing it as he explained but decided to drop it and call the action inconsequential. “And then, repeat these signs.” His father went through the signs of the hare, the ox and the monkey. Immediately after blue flames sprouted from his father's hands, although he could feel no heat from his close position.
“Immediately after you thrust,” His father emphasized by thrusting into the air, “Into the chest of the patient, shutting off their nervous system's reaction to pain for a short period of time. You needn’t worry about injury, as the penetration does not need to be deep and I am sure that you know by now how to fix it.” Gunbai took the indirect praise in stride, smiling slightly as he continued. “Now, today you will be administering this as we are running low on standard forms of anesthesia and this poor soul will not want to be awake when I put him underneath the knife. Now, do your duty.” His father motioned forward and Gunbai stepped up.
Gunbai once again steeled himself before his patients prone body, convincing himself that he was indeed ready to do this and that to falter now would mean he did not trust in his own abilities. He went over the steps internally as he prepared to administer the technique. First, the drawing of chakra from the core to the hands. That was easy, as he was quite familiar with the feeling of drawing that natural energy due to untold hours of practice. From there it was the tiniest bit tricky to direct the general amount of chakra from his hands to his fingertips, however after a few seconds he found it easier than he had expected as an almost imperceptible tingling began to build up within him due to the bundles of energy now being focused there. Now all that was left was the hand signs. What did they mean in this case? The rabbit was a symbol of resurrection in this case most likely, similar to the snake he had used before in the basic medical technique. The ox was probably an indirect reference, a showing of how one’s mind could control one’s body. Lastly, the monkey could perhaps mean balance and control, a way of limiting the technique so that it would wear off instead of making the target num forever. Gunbai briefly wondered if he could find a variant of the technique that would indeed do that before focusing himself on the technique. Rabbit, Ox, Monkey. Three simple signs, and the tingling in his hands intensified as five small flames appeared on the tips of his hands. He watched in wonder as they danced like a normal fire yet refused to burn, glowing with an almost ethereal blue light fueled by chakra. After the few seconds he allowed himself to marvel he found his father staring at him out of the corner of his eye and blushed embarrassedly, having not meant to dawdle in the middle of what was supposed to be his job. Lining his hands up with the chest area of the sleeping patient before thrusting forward with his hand expecting his hand to not even penetrate the surface of the skin. To his surprise his fingers sunk through the skin as though it were nothing but a loose mud, hitting their target ¼ of an inch deep into the skin before stopping. He could feel the chakra in his fingers siphoned off and distributed into the patient's body and heard them grunt softly in their sleep before their normal patterns resumed, thankfully not waking up. His father nodded at him before motioning him away, taking out his tools and beginning his procedures alone. Gunbai stood silently for a few minutes, waiting for any sign of acknowledgement from his father but instead was met by a stony silence broken only by the soft clinking of metal on metal as he picked up and dropped the needed tools. Sensing that he was no longer needed nor wanted in the immediate vicinity, Gunbai walked out of the room feeling ever so slightly dejected.
A good week and a half later found Gunbai sitting on his porch, contently watching the clouds drift lazily by as a strong wind carried them across the sky. While some might write this down as lazy behavior, in truth he had been studying for the past three hours and had finally decided that if he didn’t go out for a bit of fresh air he would go stir crazy inside the house. He wondered on how it would feel to be a cloud, free of all worries and content to simply travel the world. How it might feel to grow so large and powerful only to scatter and reform at some later date. In a way, he supposed that it might be related to a school class and a reunion they might have after graduation. Not that he would know much about that, he was homeschooled for most of his life and the school in his village was definitely no shining star.
He was shaken from his reverie from what sounded like a loud and booming squawk, a sound that certainly wasn’t natural in the area. It was avian in nature, however the volume and depth of the sound was certainly not normal for the average one. He listened again for the squawk found a few more were sounded, these ones with a pained tinge to them, alongside a couple of loud crashes that made the ground underneath him tremble slightly as they sounded. However after a few minutes nothing came back to him but silence, which he found oddly unsettling. Something had happened to whatever made that sound and he was determined to find out. Sitting up from his seat he departed from his house towards where he had heard the sound.
After reaching the absolute outskirts of his village he had not only found that others had decided to flock towards the loud sounds, but the cause of it as well. A rather large and bright feathered cause which made him pause shortly to take it all in. Immensely long and large, the noble figure of a peacock lay on its side chirruping weakly. Attempting to push his way through the crowd was difficult due to both his age and small stature but after a few minutes of struggling he was able to make it towards the front. As he did so he had caught the snippets of people's excited conversation.
“Did you see it?”
“A giant badger-”
“With claws like swords!”
“Poor thing, hope it will be alright.”
Gunbai took in this information with a grain of salt until he saw the damage and began to believe the third comment he had heard. The peacock’s underbelly was mangled and the brilliant turquoise was stained with crimson lifeblood, slowly forming a pool underneath his body. Gunbai was flabbergasted that such a large and magnificent creature could exist and more yet one that could hunt it existed as well. While he would love to ponder these thoughts what mattered now was that a life was in danger. Animal or not, Gunbai couldn’t just sit down and watch it die.
“Alright, back off!” Gunbai yelled, only to have his voice drowned out by the crowd. “Every back off!” He tried again, louder. Still they clamored and even drew nearer in curiosity. He couldn’t deal with this with all these busybodies nearby wanting to see what he was doing. “I SAID, BACK UP!” While coming out a little squeaky due to his still little kids voice at the time, it finally reached over the din of the crowd and the ones closest to him backed away a few feet in surprise. Good, that was all he needed. Trying desperately at something he had been unable to attempt until this point, he channeled chakra from his core towards his eyes and hoped for a miracle.
“Come on, come on…” He mumbled under his breath. A headache bloomed throughout his body and he almost felt his head would explode before suddenly the entire world around him shifted. He could see the insides, to say it simply, of everyone around him and to be quite honest it was rather freaky at first. That and the slight yellow tint made it feel like he was wearing sunglasses. Too rushed to have a sense of victory he quickly paced over to where the bird’s head rested and looked solemnly into its eyes in hopes of perhaps conveyed his actions that he was to soon perform in emotions alone. Turning away he formed the seal of the rabbit, the ox and the monkey before his hands lit up with a blue fire and were thrust into the peacock. It barely squawked at all, likely due to its weakness and its size, and soon it began to stir less as its sense of pain was dulled.
The animal now properly sedated, or at least numbed, Gunbai took use of his new and slightly freaky new sight to see the problems within the bird. Multiple gashes ran deep into it’s lower half, almost nicking its internal organs but thankfully just missing. Even so it would certainly take lots of effort for him to pull off successfully, in the end its size compared to his would be the deciding factor in how much chakra he would need to expend in order to save it. His hands went through the signs of the boar, the rat and the snake. He didnt really need the last one, but it was more for good luck than anything. His hands lit up in a healing green and his treatment began.
It was slow, grueling work. Constantly funneling chakra towards his hands was something he was used to, but never on this scale. He could quite literally see his work continue as he worked his magic, however just as quickly he felt his stamina ebb. With every fiber of muscle tissue that mended itself within the peacock another morsel of his unremarkable chakra reserves burned away and he soon found that he was running dangerously low on his own natural energy. Even so, he couldn’t just go and give up. He would save this animal even if it broke him in the process. Pouring his last remaining bits of strength into his technique he began to see dark spots in his eyes as he finished one of the last major cuts into the animal. The last thing he remembered before going unconscious was the brightening of the green light surrounding the peacock and what he swore was another pair of hands.
A few hours later Gunbai woke up alone in the clearing, feeling rather terrible for his current state. His mouth was like sandpaper and every muscle joint ached, though he didn’t dare try to mend it with chakra for at least a couple of minutes due to the amount of exhaustion he had just put on himself. Wait. Where was the very thing he had poured all his strength into?
Gunbai turned around and instantly frighted, although he wasn’t quite able to jump thanks to the tiredness in his muscles. Nested on the ground before him was a great peacock, the same as before. It’s feathers were now completely unblemished by crimson, although he noted that many still had a remainder of dampness. Had he been out for so long that such a creature was able to take a full bath?
“Human.” The bird spoke in a royal, tender voice and at that Gunbai did really let out a tiny squeal and fall to the ground. Not just a giant animal, a talking one? It seemed to take amusement in reaction, although since the biology between avian and human were different he could not tell. “Relax. No harm shall befall you from my behalf. In fact…” The bird lowered its head to the ground, close to where Gunbai actually was. Gunbai marveled at it’s long neck and beautiful plumage. “I must thank you. For if you were not there to treat me, I surely would have perished. Curse that raccoon…” It trailed off once more, seeming a habit it had. “Nevertheless, I must thank you. My life surely would have been forfeit if not for you quick actions. What do you desire?”
The bird looked at him with piercing and intelligent eyes and Gunbai was slightly unnerved. Here he was, a small child in the middle of a clearing talking to a peacock and here it was offering a reward. Naturally he wished to accept, but he paused. Did he truly want such a reward? He was sure that something as mystical as this creature surely had hoards of treasure or access to secrets unknown to man, but he hadn’t helped them because he wanted something in return. No, what he wanted was not something physical.
Gunbai smiled, and shook his head. “What I desire is not monetary. I do not wish for treasures or secrets or power. In fact, I would prefer it if given nothing at all. However, if you insist, I would be glad to have a friend.
Gunbai noted that the peacock’s eyes widened before a warmth seemed to enter into them, as though they had been given an unexpected yet pleasant answer from what they had expected to be something else. It let out a melodious laugh, like water tinkling softly from a tree branch into a puddle. “Ah, a noble one aren’t you? Oh, I admire your character for someone so young. So you wish for friends, is that it?” Gunbai nodded with a smile. “Than so be it.”
The peacock’s feathers spread wide, mesmerizing Gunbai with their brilliant colors. The Peacock let out a cry and in a poof of smoke a large scroll with green bordering appeared in front of him. “I am Haru, of the Peafowl Summon Clan. For you to be “friends” with me, as you wish to be, you must sign a contract in blood which signifies both our loyalty to you, and your loyalty to us. Will you accept this deal?” All mirth was lost for a moment, Haru’s eyes now a black landscape devoid of emotion. Gunbai hesitated for a moment, wondering what he got himself into, before nodding. There was no point in going back now after all. Approaching the scroll he unrolled it, noting all the names already on it and how most were darkened to black. Were they past summoners perhaps, as Haru called it? Pushing aside these thoughts he bit into his thumb and winced when he drew blood, sloppily writing his name into the paper after a good few seconds. Immediately after he finished the scroll glowed with a brilliant light before disappearing again.
“Congratulations,” Haru began. “You are now an official summoner of the Peafowls. You certainly won’t regret it, I hope. It’d been a shame if we lost new blood before we even begin.” The bird turned around, as though to leave. “I hope to see you soon.” And with that Haru was engulfed by a poof of smoke, leaving a confused Gunbai to ponder what had just happened.

The summon rules have been changed a bit since you were here last, basically you'll need a contract, a race app, a summon app and then you can claim summons. <3
