Wood Cutting Mastery Thread (Basic Title is Basic)

Sento wasn’t much of a social person so naturally it may come as a surprise to others how much he’d been getting out lately. Frankly it surprised even himself even today he was going to meet someone, albeit not one of his teammates he seemed to be finding himself working with lately, or even the gennin he had worked with on the whole parade fiasco, but nonetheless it was socializing and it was good for the senju. Looking at the gennin standing tired in front of him his eyes would focus on the practice wooden sword zooming towards his right shoulder.

Sento was working on his close range combat at the moment and had met this weapon user in the academy, they hadn’t really talked at the time but the two ran into each other the other day and sento had noticed his headband. It appeared he had recently graduated from the academy as well, and sento figured the two could use each other for some combat training. Moving on the thought he had invited the boy out to training ground three for this particular session.

He hadn’t however expected the boy to be this good at fighting and hardly had time to react to the boys incoming wooden weapon, thankfully he hardly had to move to counter it simply mashing his hands together would force a wooden spike to grow out of his shoulder and counter the very blade by letting it slide against the left side of its wooden spike, until sento swung his body to the left  by pivoting on his right foot, the momentum would throw the boy of balance for a split second but not disarm him, the kid was to well trained to be thrown off by such a trick and sento hadn’t been expecting it.

Instead of taking that split second to deliver a blow, sento instead took a breath which would prove to be a rookie mistake as he felt the sting of the training sword slap him in the face. “Mother fucker!” He’d say letting a curse slip out, despite him being a usually polite kid. The sudden hit hadn’t even given him time to register how his body would respond however and he had no time to stop the vulgar words from flying out. Realizing what he had just said he’d clasp his hand over his mouth before starting with concerned eyes at the kid. “Oh my god i’m sorry” He’d say with genuine sorrow in his voice.

The weapon user that Sento had recently learned had gone by the name Katto would simply laugh at the Senju’s apology. “Why are you apologizing for a curse word! You’re like 16 at least right?” The boy would say as he extended his arm to help the young senju back onto his feet again. “Come on let’s go again” Inviting Sento for another round of sparring.

Sento in response would reach out and be lifted back onto his two now firmly planted feet and he’d focus on the boy’s sword, this time with previous knowledge of how fast the thing could move and a very determined thought process in which he promised himself that he wouldn’t allow himself to be caught off guard again.

Taking note of how his branches seemed to be able to keep up with them despite his body not being able too. As this mental note registered in his mind a new round of sparring would begin and this time instead of a slash from above the boy seemed to be throwing a jab in his direction, the tip of the practice blade heading straight for his stomach.

Pivoting his foot he’d narrowly dodge the jab thanks to the distance between the two from the start, if they had started next to each other sento wasn’t sure he would have been able to perform such a feet. He hated to say it but this kid seemed to be better than him in combat even without the use of ninjutsu. As the man turned to recover from his miss sento would attempt something he had never tried before but had heard one could do with repeated exposure to a ninjutsu.

The Senju would concentrate his chakra without the use of handseals and with an insane amount of focus in the split second it would take the weapon user to recover a branch would erupt out of the young man’s chest and fly forwards with a blunt end to strike the boy named Katto in his back before he had the chance to finish recovering and turning to face him.

Katto would in response fall face first into the ground and lose the grip of his sword, watching as it fell into the grass beside him. Now that both of the gennin had lost and won a match Sento felt that it would be a more than reasonable time to call it a day. Besides he had gotten some good practice in and he felt that the boy currently laying in the grass would feel the same way. The white haired gennin would then walk over to Katto and offered the same gesture Katto had been kind enough to show him earlier, while also picking up and returning the boys sword along the way.

Katto of course accepted his gesture and the two gennin stood in the center of the field, both drenched in sweat from a long day of sparring and training. Exhausted and tired and smelly Sento would nervously laugh as he extended his hand, and met Kattos before thanking him and saying his goodbyes. The sun was beginning to fall and daylight was beginning to fade along with it. Not wanting to be outside alone in the dark like on that one mission from before Sento quickly picked up the pace and jogged in the general direction of his bed, memories of its ever so comfortable mattress flooding his head along the way as he grew more and more tired.
