The First Wall [Prv]
Thu Apr 19, 2018 4:19 pm
During his time at the Academy; Chima had felt many things. Accomplishment, awe, frustration, pride... but he hadn't felt fear.
Fear inflicted by something as simple as standing in a slowly progressing line towards a door. A door that would occasionally open and release one student; before the one at the front of the line would enter. No-one exiting the room said a word until they were out of earshot of the students in the line... the various teachers around ensured of that.
As Chima continued towards the door, the mixture of dread and anticipation continued to mount. On the other side of the door was where the Genin exams were being held. Failure meant you had to wait for 6 months before being allowed to re-try.
After what felt like forever, the older student made it to the front of the line, just looking at the door. Somehow; this felt like it lasted even longer than the entire time Chima was in the line.
His heart skipped a beat when the door opened, and a rather nervous-looking young girl slinked out. Chima walked in.
The door closed behind him by itself. Sitting on a chair; against the wall; was the same bored-looking teacher who had run the class on the Clone and Transformation Jutsu.
"Perform the Clone Jutsu please." he said without looking up from his notebook. "You have ten seconds."
Chima quickly did as he was told, and successfully performed the Clone jutsu. He had expected that to be part of the test; and has practiced it.
Almost as soon as Chima successfully performed the technique; the next instruction came through.
"Transformation technique. Ten seconds, and hold it for thirty. Transform into anyone else you want."
Chima didn't hesitate. His handsigns for this jutsu were performed very slightly slower, Chima being a little less practiced with the Transformation jutsu. Still; he easily managed to transform into the teacher far before ten seconds passed. He'd been specifically working on maintaining the transformation, after all, if the purpose of the technique was deception, it had to last long enough to succeed at that.
Still; the teacher, who had only a single eye looking up from his notes, seemed to be exerting a pressure as he watched. Chima could feel it, as if the teacher was judgeing him, looking for any mistake. Despite the fact saying he was even paying half-attention was generous.
The teacher pulled a scroll from his pocket; and rolled it along the ground. Upon it were several pictures.
"Identify the weapons on the scroll; and their optimal uses." the teacher instructed.
Chima pointed first to the long; thin needle. "Senbon; throwing weapon; usually coated with some form of toxin."
The next was a diamond-headed thing on top of a circular ring. "Kunai Knife; designed for close combat or throwing. All-purpose stabbing and cutting weapon."
Then was a Shuriken; a throwing weapon designed to slice. Various types of blades were shown as well. Near the end was a picture of the human body, the weapon of Taijutsu itself. And then, a picture of a brain. The mind. Often under-rated and over-rated.
The teacher slid an actual Kunai over to Chima across the ground, and pointed to a crudly-drawn target on the wall, which was marred by varius small indents.
"Throw the Kunai as accurately to the bullseye as you can. You have one shot, in a real combat situation that is all you would get."
Chima took a moment to look at the target. It was indeed marked by rings, but it wasn't like a dartboard. There seemed to be several bullseyes. And the rings would stop in abrupt places. It took a few moments for Chima to realize due to the various intents in the wall, but the 'target' was in the rough shape of a human body.
But the techer had specifically said 'The Bullseye'. But there seemed to be multiple.
Chima looked at the target for a few more moments, before he hurked the kunai to the bullseye around the target's chest area.
"Why did you choose that one; and not the bullseye on the head?" the instructor asked, fully looking up from his book now.
Chima turned and fidgeted for a moment.
"Well; the skull can be pretty thick; and the Forehead protector is designed to deflect Kunai. Also; even if I miss the heart, it's a larger area than the head. A hit to the lungs or other organs can still disable; while a missed shot to the head is more likely to miss entirely."
"Interesting." the man said, standing up and looking at the target. Indeed, Chima's aim wasn't perfect. He'd missed the bullseye by about a centimeter.
The teacher pulled the kunai out of the wall; and stabbed it the same distance away from the head-bullseye.
"You'd have still probobly landed a fatal blow had you aimed for the head..." the teacher remarked. "But the point is you can justify the reason behind your choice. You didn't choose at random. A ninja must be able to make decisions in situations where they catch an enemy unaware to maximize the advantage. A single kunai flying into an enemy and disabling them before they are aware of you can be the difference between survival and defeat."
The teacher turned to Chima.
"If it were solely up to me; you would pass with flying colors. However, I have to discuss with the other teachers before your grade is finalized." the instructor explained, putting the Kunai back into his pocket. You may leave the exam room now; Chima. Don't tell anyone else of what happened in this room or you'll find yourself the victim of a rather nasty sealing technique the teachers outside are using to keep the exam details hidden."
Chima had a slight morbid curiosity of what the jutsu would do... but was entirely unwilling to find out by using himself as a test subject, and simply left the room silently, giving the teachers he passed an oddly curious look.

Normally you'd let someone else play the proctor for the exam. If no one else has a problem with this thread however, approved.

Oh; I must have misunderstood since it stated in the rank obtainment:
The misunderstanding probobly coming from the 'or'. I should have clarified first.
Unless someone else has an issue with the approval:
-Exit-
After the aforementioned, you must either do an 800 word post in the academy in your village, or be examined by a player character of Chuunin+. Said rank up must be approved.

Hikari was in the room.
Hikari confirmed what student said was right.
Hikari passed the student.

Claiming nothing but making Chima a Genin
