Better Bring Swimsuits! [NK]
Sat Sep 22, 2018 1:00 pm
'When I first learned this, my sensei taught us straight on the water,' her father had told her once. 'It's the best, and if I may say so myself, the only way to learn this.'
Natsume rolled her shoulders back and stared at the small pond, her brow twitching as a bird swooped by, rippling the surface with the tip of its wing. She could do this! She'd read the chakra exercise scroll at least a hundred times by now (if it were anybody else, it would clearly be an exaggeration, but when it came to Natsume, one had to wonder if that was literal) normally, in reverse, and even upside down. It should've been a piece of cake to walk across the water.
She tugged at the depths of her chakra and directed it to her feet, spreading the chakra thinly across the entire surface. Her brows furrowed in concentration as she tried to keep the chakra there. Once she felt comfortable shifting even a bit of her attention away from maintaining the chakra flow, she tried to lift a foot. To her satisfaction, she felt resistance. 'Good. It's working as intended.' That was a positive sign! Of course, the surface of water was different from the solid ground currently underneath her, but she was sure she'd figure it out. She released her chakra and inched closer to the pond. 'I can do this. Just as I've practiced. C'mon.' She swallowed as she carefully lifted her foot and positioned it right over the water. Chakra pooled under her foot, ready to support her weight the instant she made contact with the water. The water rippled as her shoes just skimmed the water. Next she knew, her foot was back on land.
She sunk into a deep squat, her head in her hands. "Gahhh. There has to be a better way to practice this!" She shot a glance at the scroll sitting innocently under the shade of a tree with her towel and fresh change of clothes. Maybe she should just climb the tree? But what if father found out that she'd taken the easier route? Her heart sank to the bottom of her stomach and she groaned. "I can do this. I can do this! Just... in a bit. Yeah. In a bit."
That bit would last for... a while. Actually, if nobody stopped by, that bit might've lasted until well after the sun sank past the horizon, and then into the next morning, when it rose again.
But c'mon... You can't blame a girl for being afraid of getting wet!

Hoshi was training within these grounds such as any other day, and yet he seemed lifeless as his mind was still lingering on a question he asked himself a couple days ago. If he had any hobbies other then becoming stronger and fighting other people. Short answer he discovered was a no really, but the long answer was that he's never even tried much other than that since he no longer had to train only 2 years he's had to try and find something to preoccupy himself and his only way of enjoying life seems to be exhilaration and of course he is satisfied with training but he might as well try other options.
As these questions lingered on in his mind he saw a girl around his age trying to touch on the water within the water jutsu training area. Of course normally he wouldn't observe but she was making such a ruckus with how she keeps failing to even touch the water itself. Unlike himself she appears to be much more afraid of the water then anyone else could be.
After Hoshi continued training his own personal training via pushing his hands into a dual hand sign and taking deep breaths for about 40 minutes with the only success being that his lungs feel alot more clear but the book he read this technique on was alot more explicit on how much extra it SHOULD feel when he succeeds and yet throughout all this time the girl he saw earlier was just squatting in place and slacking off. This fact infuriated Hoshi since not only did she seem stubborn but also a procrastinator? He should be able to fix this genin right up.
"Hey what are you lying down for! Aren't you an academy student or whatever you should be training ya ass off trying to become a genin and yet all you're doing right now is just squatting afraid of even trying to touch the water for some bizarre reason. But the thing is even though you seemed to be trying hard to touch the water your all over the place mentally and if you can't even touch water how can you call yourself a ninja when the time comes. So someone who's actively trying to become a genin should know that if you can't touch water you should just leave." As Hoshi said this he decided to stand up and try to give her confidence and actually help her to make her alot less pathetic "Sorry about that blunt attitude but it just seems like you don't know what your doing and need help trying to actually not be afraid of water and you don't even try to get any help. In fact since i'm mid rest i might as try and help you get over your phobia of the water."To which Hoshi cracked his knuckles ready for a response.

Natsume, startled by the boy's shout, jumped up from her squat into a basic fighting stance – hands clenched into fists near her face and her body low to the ground. It took her a moment, and his continued shouting, to realize he wasn't a threat. Of course he wasn't. She was in the village! Nobody could hurt her here! Slowly, her hands unclenched and returned to her sides. "Sorry for the blunt attitude, he says," she mumbled under her breath, "as he continues on bluntly."
At his offer to practice chakra flow, Natsume nodded. "You're right. Kind of." It pained her to say it, especially to somebody that seemed to be her age, but she managed to keep that pain off her facial expression. "I do need help. And pyou're... a genin, right? You've probably learned how to do this properly. But it's not because I have a fear of water, or anything like that, it's because..." She scratched at her cheek, already somewhat embarrassed by the reason. "I don't want to mess up. I hate messing up and knowing that I messed up, and this... I get wet, and stay wet. It's like a constant reminder that I've failed." She swallowed and looked down at her feet. "It's dumb. I know."
She closed her eyes. She directed her chakra to her feet and focused on maintaining a thin but even spread. After a moment, her eyes opened once more. She looked up at him. "Teach me how to walk on water." There was a brief pause. "... Please."

Hoshi began laughing after she finished her little panic attack "haha my god did I really scare ya that much! You remind me of a genin except he didn't stop getting scared and well seemed alot weaker anyway." Perhaps she had a reason to be scared but her reason surprised Hoshi pretty well, The fear of failure. Hoshi remembers back to a time before he became a student when he was afraid of failure and yet over the years failure instead of making him upset just drive him to do better so in his mind she really was dumb.
And then she asked for him to help her and teach her how to walk on water ,which is a first for Hoshi, so unlike usual when he's the one learning he has to teach someone not equal to him but weaker then him. Hmm perhaps he could try out this teaching stuff every now and then. "Heh so you want me too teach you eh? Well then. Perhaps the first thing i can indeed teach you is to forget your fear of failure as falling here isn't failure but progress. Each and every time you fall you'll try to figure out a reason to why and be able to counter it fully. Training should never be though of success or failure since the only failure possible would be the technique not working when you actually need it most. Which is why we fail to succeed. Understand?"
Well since she needed help with chakra control Hoshi actually had to try since he himself was no chakra expert but he could give his own little analogy for it. "Too control your chakra imagine to core of you being where all chakra originates from to be alike the tip of a river and when you try to use it you just flow it into your desired points by valleys within your body which drift the water towards that point. Once you manage to be able to do that all over your body focus the energy at your feet."
"Once your feet feel the energy imagine less that it's chakra on your feet but imagine it's your own personal ground to walk upon as it both pulls you towards and away from where you stand. As if all surfaces are one in the same... Like so." Hoshi uses the water walking technique with flying colours since of course he has used it many times in the past whilst randomly walking around his home and collecting water buckets. "But you should know the most important part of this technique is failure. As failure remember is the road to success in the future." Hoshi deactivated the jutsu whilst on the water and fell in looking like an idiot. "Hehe. So don't be afraid to fail at all."

She blinked as he shared his wise words. "That... actually makes sense. Failing now, to succeed later." She hadn't expected such wisdom from him. It was her fault for making assumptions right off the bat, she supposed.
She focused on the chakra at her feet. All this time, she'd been thinking of using the chakra as a counter-force, spreading the chakra thinly under her feet, when she should've been creating a platform for herself! It was like a lightbulb going off in her mind. It made so much more sense! It was strange at first to change the way she looked at the technique, but after a few minutes of toying with her chakra, ending the focus and starting it up again, she suspected she had a good handle on it.
She smiled as she followed him to the edge of the lake.
But, where he confidently strode onwards, Natsume hesitated. He made it look so easy. The doubt inside of her threatened to crush her, and her foot hovered. Could she do this?
Then he fell into the water.
Her fear seemed to shatter, just like the stillness of the water. She laughed as he splashed about momentarily, looking like an idiot.
She stepped forward. For a moment, her balance wavered. She could feel herself sink slightly into the water. She increased the chakra output at her foot, her brows furrowing as she brought her other foot onto the water as well. Her weight was being entirely supported by her chakra now. She wanted to cry in relief, but she was too busy concentrating. First, a tentative step forward. Adjust her chakra for the ripples, account for the flow of the water. Then another step. And another. Slowly but surely, she wobbled over to him.
Her heart pounded. She squeezed her eyes shut and...
Let go of her chakra.
This time, as the urge to laugh bubbled up in her chest, she did. "Look!" she cried out mid-fall. She continued to laugh as she fell into the water, snorting up some of the liquid in her delight. She stayed underwater for a while, then kicked up for some air once her lungs demanded it. "I did it!" she shouted as she broke through the surface. She treaded water and paddled over to him, her face split into a wide grin. "I did it! I fell into the water!"

Zyxis glared at Hoshi as he yelled at the girl. He didn't care less if he was blunt with him, but she was a little girl and an Academy Student at that. She stood at a small stature, some may call her pocket-size, while others may call her short. She was adorable in his eyes. Like a little sister or sibling that he never had. He wanted to pat her on the head and give her sweets. He shook his head and continued to watch. At least she didn't seem to be upset for too long. Hoshi's words inspired her to try and not be afraid to fail. He smiled at the Taijutsu specialist, gaining a bit of respect for him.
He appeared before the two, standing at the edge of the water. "Yo." He said, with a wave. It was hard to keep himself from just hugging the girl right now and punching Hoshi.

Hoshi almost felt proud when she laughed. It seemed as though his ploy to lighten the mood worked and now she could at least attempt it once. If she only attempts it once she should be able to shake of that fear of failure that he once had many years ago whilst Tengo was pretty much beating it into him that a scenario like training is something one shouldn't fear the failure off but the failure when it truly matters. He couldn't even believe he copied that mans words but at least it seems to be working for her as she begins to make her first couple of steps and....
She fell into the water. But of course that was a natural course of action for her as without much practice at all yet she wouldn't be able to walk on the water easily and would inevitably fall and yet she managed to make a good distance with the best part being the fact she isn't afraid of failure at the moment since she responded to him with a big grin as she proudly declares that she fell into the water and failed. "Yes today ya fell into the water. Perhaps tomorra too but sooner or later ya'll make it to where you'll be able to naturally do this with ease."
"And now that you know how to create some stable footing at least it wont be long until your able to create an even more stable footing. But just so you know. If you want to be a Genin this technique isn't the only technique you'll have to learn. So you must prepare" As Hoshi stated this he heard Zyxis enter and even great himself and so with much effort of his effort Hoshi decided to jump out the water and surprise Zyxis instead of the normal way using the dynamic entry technique to travel 10 metre's all the way out of the water and try to kick him in the gut. Yep that technique is always a load of fun to use and especially to see how much better Zyxis has become [40 speed] [50 strength]

"Of course. Clone and transformation." She was nodding along to his words when the newcomer arrived. Between the cool 'yo' and her current teacher disappearing in a flurry, Natsume was left behind in the water. She spluttered and watched the duo from afar.
It wasn't a very good view from down in the water, though, so Natsume tried applying her new-found knowledge again... but in a different way. She channeled her chakra first to her hands and started pushing herself up and on to the surface of the water. Then, she expelled chakra from her lower legs, and finally, after climbing to her feet and rising to her full height, her feet. Unfortunately, her teacher was busy trying to kick somebody else, so he hadn't seen her extrapolate from his lessons. Shame. Now that she was standing, though, she could watch the ensuing fight in all its glory.

Zyxis looked blank on at him as he burst out of the water and flew at him with Dynamic Entry. A yellow aura instantly erupted from him, lightning arcing around his skin as he used Soul Expulsion. [+20 Speed | +20 Chakra] He put his hand into a Body Flicker at the same time, the moment he flew out of the water, he was already above him.
He wasn't even able to travel half a meter. He would have some sort of recognition that Zyxis appeared above him, barely enough to block if he wanted to try. [90 Speed] Although, that would be hard since he was mid-air flying towards where Zyxis used to be. It would be impossible and against the laws of physics if he was able to stop the jutsu when he was already moving forward.
His closed-fist would meet his face five times as he used Chain Fist, sending him flying back down into the water after the barrage. [40 Strength | 60 Speed] Hoshi would hit the surface of the water. Hard. Hopefully, he would have some burns from hitting the water at such a fast speed. Zyxis would then land and use Surface Walking to move towards Natsume. [50 Speed]
Hopefully, he wouldn't be hurt too bad from that short confrontation that barely lasted ten seconds. He walked up towards Natsume.
"Hi," He said with a small smile on his face. "I'm Zyxis, nice to meet you-?" He would then wait for her to say her name.

As Hoshi flew towards Zyxis he managed to spot him using a new kind of jutsu putting a electric like substance around his body with him rapidly using the ram hand sign Hoshi decided to use it as well whilst in the air to try and at least have his head able to follow Zyxis as he sped around at insane speeds. With all this movement he could barely follow as Zyxis appeared above him and yet he slowed down much more yet not enough to where he could easily deal with his assault at all.
During this hoshi was barley able to use his Taijutsu style block but since he could barely keep up with the speed of the rapid punches he only managed to block 2 punches of the assualt reducing the power not by [20] alot but by a smaller [10] amount to which it still bloody hurt but didn't effect him too badly. After this exchange Hoshi decided to let himself hit the waters surface and get pushed to the bottom to which he immidiately popped back up and used the water walking technique whilst looking at Zyxis "Heh look who's learnt a few new technique's. Looks like currently i'm out of ya league... For now that is anyway Zyxis." And although he hated to admit it. If they had a straight up fight the winner would most likely be Zyxis at this current moment. But for now he was through with this.
"I just wanted to see if you would be prepared and have a quick exchange and it turned out better then i hoped. But yeah let's quit whilst I'm still able to resist my base urges to fight ya head on as this girl wants to learn how to become a genin and... Hey would you look at that! You're pretty damn stable on the water now compared to last attempt anyway!" Hoshi would be glad to fight Zyxis but for now this mystery girl needs some training
