She leaped into his arms quicker than he had expected. He squeezed her. His cheeks flushed. He had only ever been hugged by his mother and father. It felt... nice(?). Before he could think anymore, she jumped back, and he smiled at her. He shook away the blush.

"Ah, I don't think it was a fluke you did great. I'll teach you the jutsu you'll need to graduate all at once. You don't have to learn them all at once, but you're talented enough," He said.

He did the Ram, Snake, and Tiger hand seals, creating two clones side-by-side of him. They all smiled and waved at her. "This is the Clone Technique. Not the most useful as they aren't solid like Shadow Clones, but can be used for some things. They're illusions, so you just have to create a layer of chakra similar to your skin and move it outwards. Should be easy."

"Transformation. It's similar to the clone technique. All you have to do is Dog, Boar, and Ram and then you create the same layer of chakra similar to skin, and then mold it into what you want."

He smiled, "Substitution is a bit harder. It's the same as an illusion, but you have to project your chakra more. That's why there are more hand seals. Tiger, Boar, Ox, Dog, and Snake." He would show her all the hand seals as well, and show her how the jutsu was performed. "Take your time on these, if you must. I don't mind. You're already doing spectacularly."

Hoshi looked over his shoulder yet again to see Zyxis managing to teach Natsume the fundamentals of the jutsu she needed to learn to become a genin now. Hoshi's thought's on Natsume was that she had great potential but he's unsure as to whether or not she'll be able to capitalise on her innate skills and manage to either become a great Jounin or get stuck within the Genin period Hoshi could not tell how strong she could be in her future.

But for now he should worry less about others futures and more about... No he should worry about another persons future but this time not Natsume but Zyxis. The future of their rivalry would be a short one if he simply let Zyxis widen the gap between then anymore so Hoshi needed to push himself and stop simply learning these moves but actually being able to use all his moves properly and effectively.

Next step a technique he read about after the mission within those old tombs ,which he sort of maybe destroyed a near invaluable vase, The Arhat Gangeki Fist technique. Such a mouthful and yet he would need this technique not to increase his speed. But his power beyond what he currently thinks is possible. With this taijutsu technique Hoshi should be able to defeat many a foe in simply one punch if he manages to get into a position where speed is no option.

Hoshi get's a piece of the halfed dummy and chucks it into the air. As it falls down at a surprisingly slow rate ,much faster then a feather but slower then a person, Hoshi prepared all his strength into his fist and seeing his target fall infront of him he planted a powerful punch on the half dummy. Even managing to have it manage to pass by and possibly hit Zyxis on the head. Which was always a fun thing to occur.

Hoshi now having practice all his technique's so far had to manage a combination of them all. Of course the leaf combo being the actual one he needed to achieve first as a combination. So Hoshi prepared the first part using a fresh new dummy. First the leaf rising wind technique to which he did smoothly as he slid onto his back and even further, able to push up all his bodies force to force the dummy to fly in the air. Whilst it was in the air he had to quickly flip himself onto his feet and launch himself at rapid speeds using the dancing leaf shadow technique.

As Hoshi flew up he shouted towards the two familiar individuals after Zyxis has taught her and she has to the best of her ability used those jutsu "This is what it means to be a true genin!" As he performed the Lion's Barrage whilst going in the direction of where they were. Each punch speeding him up until he was besides them with his finishing heel cracking the floor around the dummy. "Ya see to be a genin all those Jutsu's and crap you've used maybe useful for the exam. But the thing is those moves maybe good for now, but always remember you always have to go higher. Even that move I used is not strong enough to even deal with Zyxis here and we're still Genin. So you still want to become a ninja even against these odds?"

Hoshi was trying to teach Natsume not only how much harder things will become but also how even if you do well you should always aim higher. This was Hoshi trying to figure out if she is infact good enough to not just become a Genin but something greater then what even he is trying to become. The strength of will is the main factor between ninja and ordinary people and Hoshi thinks that she could have that power but still it will be a brutal world if she doesn't.

She nodded as he showed the three basic Genin techniques. She had heard of them, and even knew that two of them would likely be on the Genin Exams. Still, as she did whenever presented with a chance to study anything up close and personal... she analysed and experimented. He mentioned something called a 'shadow clone' but moved on so quickly she had no time to ask him about that technique. What is a shadow clone? How can they be solid? She held on to those questions, burying deep in the back of her mind for later. For now, she reached out a hand and waved it in the space where one of the clones would be, smiling as she was met with nothing. As she inspected the quality of the clone, she noticed that it cast no shadow, and seemed to have no effect on the grass under its feet. As expected of an illusion, she supposed. She then proceeded to reach out to his transformation, expecting it to be an illusion as well, and was surprised when what she felt matched what she saw. It's a real transformation? Finally, for his substitution, she went to inspect the object he had substituted with. Weighed it, compared it to her guess of Zyxis' weight, and noted that for later.

There wasn't very much else to study from what she had seen. Natsume knew her understanding would only truly come when she, herself, performed the techniques. Without much fanfare, Natsume began practicing the combination of handseals for the clone technique. She started slow, really perfecting the form of her hands as she went through Ram, Snake, then Tiger. Once she was satisfied with the form of her seals, she went through the combination faster, pushing herself to complete the handseals faster than the time before. She must have done Ram-Snake-Tiger at least thirty times before she even began to channel her chakra. When she did call her chakra forth, it came easily, eager to obey her commands. It wasn't long before she'd figured out how to create that layer of chakra and 'move it outwards'. First she made one. Then another two. When she opened her eyes, she met three other pairs of molten gold, all staring back at her.

She grinned as she looked at her identical copies around her and watched as they grinned back. She craned her head to call Zyxis' attention to her success. "Look! Can you guess which one of us is the real one?" As she said that, the four 'Natsume's waved at the same time, all grinning up at him coyly.

Zyxis moved out of the way of the dummy flying at him. He didn't glare but gave him a look, something that translated to, "Do you want to get your ass beat?" He left at that, as he was busy in the middle of something. At least he was good for cheering up the little cinnamon roll.

He watched as she performed the hand seals. A warm feeling bubbled up in his chest, the same heat he felt when he blushed. He felt really proud like he had done something great by teaching her these techniques. As she practiced and created three more adorable versions of himself, he grinned.

"Of course I can tell which one is you, the only one with a shadow. Great job, I'm... proud," Zyxis smiled brighter. He had the sudden urge to hug her again. He kept his arms at his side though, he didn't want to come off as "hug-obsessive" or something. The feel was just pleasant, okay? Leave him alone. Instead, he pats her head again and ruffles her hair. He was excited to see her absorb the information he gave. It filled him with a sense of pride and accomplishment similar to hers.

He pats the head on each one of the clones, popping them as he went along with a little injection of his own chakra. He smiles at her, "Ready for the next jutsu?"

She clamped down on her surprise as he easily disposed of her clone illusions. It looked like he had forced his own chakra into them, as if rupturing the natural flow of chakra. "Illusions can be disrupted with foreign chakra flow, and probably can be broken if I cannot hold my own focus. Hmm." She tucked away that information for later and nodded at him as he questioned her readiness.

"The transformation technique." she recalled. It took her a moment longer to remember the seals and what order they came in, but eventually she'd done the same as she had with the clone technique. Forming each hand seal (Dog, Bear, and Ram), one by one, and painstakingly correcting the form until they were perfect. Then, once she was satisfied, she went through the order over and over again, forcing herself to beat her previous speed. To a proper ninja, the speed may have been normal, but to her, she was proud of how fast she could go, and moved on to figuring out the feeling of chakra for the technique. "So something like... this?" She expelled chakra, letting it wrap around her like a second skin, and then painstakingly focused on shifting the chakra skin around to create new features. Her inspiration? Zyxis.

One moment, she was Natsume. The next, she'd seemingly been replaced with a copy of Zyxis. She went through her checklist and inspected herself - the colors seemed right, and the shape seemed right, but there was only so much she could check. She reached up to touch where Zyxis' face would be, but her hand passed through the form. "I did something wrong." She frowned and tried to fix the problem herself. What could it be? She was missing the solidity of her form. Perhaps it was because she'd thought in contours rather than in mass. Yes, that would make sense, wouldn't it? Like the difference between rendering a drawing to look realistic and creating a figurine of clay. She tried again, this time picturing mass and shaping her chakra into the different limbs. She thought of fat and muscle, of texture rough and smooth, and then went through the seals, finalizing the technique.

This time, the Zyxis look-alike was also a feel-alike. She'd taken some liberties, of course, like making his hair soft as feathers, as she'd yet to ruffle her senpai's hair, or the slight belly flab she'd conjured as she didn't really want to inspect whether or not he had abs. "Oh! Could I make transformed clones, then?" When she tried to further push herself by creating clones based off this form, her transformation started to waver. "No!" She grit her teeth and tried to fight through the strain on her mind, but it was simply too much. The transformation fell away and she returned to being Natsume.

Her head ached something fierce, a sharp pain behind her eyes putting her out of commission for a while as she dug the heels of her hands into her eyes. It logically wouldn't help, but it was better than nothing. She shuddered for a short while as she rode the waves of the pain. Had she pushed herself too hard, too soon?

There was still one technique left to learn, though. She didn't want to disappoint her two senpais now! She whimpered as the pain subsided slightly, dulling to a flat thudding all over her face, and pulled her hands back down to her sides. "All that's left is substitution," she reminded herself. "I can do this. So please... trust me, senpai. I can do this." She squared her shoulders back and brought her hands together to start on the seals. Tiger. Boar. Ox. Dog. Snake. It took her longer than before to really perfect the form of her seal, and she gave in sooner than she usually would when it came to cutting down the time of her seals, but she continued on. She focused on her hefty bag, still under the tree a smidgen away, and went through the seals. Her head spun as she swapped places and she fell on her hands and knees. Noise screamed in her ears and she bit back a sob as she fought through the pain. "One... more... time." She swapped with her bag once more and immediately collapsed against Zyxis' sturdy form, panting through the strain.

It took everything to even remain standing, if the quiver of her legs was anything to go by. "I did it," she said, voice hoarse but smile smug.

Her attention was brought to Hoshi, who quickly approached them in a series of swift taijutsu moves. She smiled at him weakly as he spoke, lecturing her about the difficulty of the ninja life. "Do I want to become a ninja... against these odds...?" she repeated, her laugh coming out more a wheeze than anything else. "Just you watch, Hoshi-senpai... I'll become strong..." She lifted a shaking hand and pointed at him as she spoke, the last of her words clear in her mind.

"Strong enough to protect..."

She collapsed on to the floor in a dead faint.

[ I am taking liberty with the idea that Natsume is chakra-exhausted. Even if those techniques in and of themselves wouldn't be enough to wear her out, she has been training all day and probably using too much chakra on her initial attempts. You guys will decide when the thread closes, as Natsu is officially out of the count. ]

As Hoshi finished lecturing Natsume she surprisingly fainted out of the chakra amount she's used. Yet before she fainted the answer she gave made Hoshi do a small smile out the side of his face "Night trooper.". The amount of will she had surely was enough to become a great ninja someday. Perhaps one day she could even surpass him, Zyxis and even Ryuka... Well maybe not Ryuka with how powerful he is but definitely a shot at both the genin here today.

Speaking of both the genin Hoshi failed to catch Zyxis off surprise with that dummy. And yet even after all that Hoshi still managed to see Zyxis look after Natsume with lot's of care. Perhaps it wasn't a romantic interest? Nah it had to be romantic, Zyxis seemed to be a ladies man during this day which at least made Hoshi see Zyxis as more human than he lets on, even if Zyxis would still be hostile towards Hoshi all the time.

Now that Natsume's passed out Hoshi decided it was around time to ask Zyxis to help him take Natsume to a police station for a guide to take her home and go there separate ways for the day. Zyxis is already stronger than Hoshi at this moment and Hoshi ,although wanting to spar with Zyxis again, wants to learn technique's which can match and even surpass Zyxis any day of the week. "Zyxis how bout we quit for now. You can help me take Natsume home if ya really want. I'm just going ta leave and she'll be home soon."

Perhaps Zyxis would take up his offer or not to take her to the station. But one things for sure. Even if Hoshi returned home after saying he's calling it quits he's not going to stop training. In fact Hoshi has an idea for an ideal training place... Yes the mountains. That's where he'll go. After of course taking the tuckered out Natsume home.

Long after the boys had dropped Natsume off at the station and her father had been called over to pick her up, Natsume would wake to the gentle but firm grip of her father's arms. It would not be a long moment of consciousness, but there and then, as her father was carrying her up to bed like he had done so many times in her youth, Natsume decided. "I'm taking the exam soon," she told him, "and then I'll be a real ninja. I'll avenge mom."

She blinked tired eyes up at him and smiled, her heart swelling when he smiled back and leaned down to kiss her forehead. "I know you will, baby girl. I know you will." he said, voice rumbling in his throat. Satisfied with his agreement, she nuzzled her face into the crook of his neck, and drifted back into her exhausted sleep.

So exhausted was she, that she did not see his sad smile as he tucked her into bed, nor hear his whispered prayers for Kami to protect her. She did not feel his tears or the hands that gripped hers so tight as he begged the world to not take his daughter away too. What she did see and hear were the nightmares that carried her to the morning, reminding her of what had been lost and the many things she could still very well lose. And as her father moved to let her sleep, his eyes red with all the tears shed, she squeezed back, unconsciously begging him to stay.

When she would next wake up, it would be to her father's body half-slumped over the bed, the rest on the floor, with his hand loosely held in her own.

"I'll be a real ninja, papa. I'll keep you safe." She would mumble as she patted his messy hair and smiled at his snores. "No matter what it costs."
