Afterwards (solo)
Wed Oct 09, 2019 11:54 am
Yoi sat up in bed, lacking bodily strength. The white-haired Yuki cast aside his covers, slowly entering a state of bodily and mental consciousness. Shedding his pajamas, he slowly got dressed for his, for all intents and purposes, the sixteen-hour waking period ahead. After being in a state of bodily and mental unconsciousness for, accounted for approximately, eight hours, he felt that the requirement of wearing actual clothes was necessary to be met at this time. The Yuki clan head pulled a roll of bandages from his shelf, and slowly wrapped his limbs and appendages in the wound dressing material. He disliked the burn scars that covered the physical structure of his living state, but he couldn’t cover the ones in his head. Most of the ones would be covered by bandages or hair. Not having purchased his old attire as of now, he settled for some of his father’s old clothing. He wore a black t-shirt, red shorts, grey sandals and a dull, pea green, bowler hat to cover his head. The Yuki had nowhere near the quantities of hair he used to have. As of this moment in time, if he had to describe his hair, it would be a buzzcut. After… the incident… Yoi had been bald for a bit, but his hair was in its initial stage of development to where Yoi desired it to be. The formerly white-haired, currently almost bald, Yuki walked downstairs to his family’s kitchen, a place with cooking utensils in which he, or the other members of his household, could prepare food. Yoi saw that his mom had just gotten some potatoes and chicken from a farm a little outside of town. In Yoi’s expressible views, the multi-cellular organisms that were the members of the kingdom of Animalia made the best source of consumable, may it be through drinking a broth or eating meat, nourishing substances that were used to sustain the human body’s life and promote well being. Yoi put a potato, an edible tuber of a plant, on the cutting board, a firm surface for food preparation and cutting food. Yoi cut it vertically, making little round potato circles. He put some oil on a cast-iron skillet, then he proceeded to toss the potato slices onto the pan. As they sizzled away, he cut a chicken breast into little cubes and threw them in with the potatoes. Once they were both fully prepared through the means of heating, Yoi put them on a ceramic plate, a disc made of baked clay. The white-haired Yuki clan head sat down at the table, a flat article of furniture supported by one or more legs, and ate away at his meal. Once he was full, he cleaned his plate in the sink and then waited for his father to come home. While waiting, Yoi fell into a deep thought. He remembered every word the man said like it was yesterday. “Good afternoon little Konoha ninja. Give me your money, your shinobi ID’s, and...your headbands, and I won’t kill the three of you. You have my word on that…
“Set them all down, along with your weapons, and items, all of them. Then back up a few paces. I’ll come collect them all, conclude our business and then be on my way, and you three can leave with your lives.
“Back.
“Very good. Very good indeed, now then. We’re going to play a game.
“Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Step forward boy, Chuta, Kizaru, do not move, and do not look away, or I’ll kill whoever does as an example. You will watch, and soon enough it will be your turn. I will keep my word, all of you will leave here alive.
“I am going to physically torture you. I am going to cut off limbs, and cause untold amounts of pain to you. You will live, and you will remember the pain, and you will use it as a motivator to never be so weak as to let yourself be caught out like this again. Your friends, should they follow orders. Will watch as I do, and then will take their turn as well. Should they fail to follow my directions, I will kill them in front of you. If you try to stop me, I’ll kill you too, and make them watch. No one is out here to save you boy. I’d think twice next time before stepping foot the gates of your precious village. There are monsters out here.
“Yes, look upon your comrades as they lay there, in such pain that it cannot be described. Look upon them and their crucible, as they are either forged into something stronger, or broken and tossed aside for the world to forget. You all have potential boy, but it does not lay within the safety of a village. The world is a harsh place, yes, but it so out of necessity. Yet the villages put up large walls to defend against the brutality of it. They hide from it’s lessons, and therefore learn nothing of true pain. How many in your village can you say have felt this sort of agony? Have had such tests thrust upon them? One? Maybe two? How many have suffered as your friends here have? Have you suffered as they are now? Have you felt the pain necessary to rise to new heights? You’re about to young Kizaru, and you’ll scream, and you’ll feel as if you’re about to die. You’ll wish you would die, wish it would all be over. However, it won’t end, you’ll wake up, and have to face your world. Have to build yourself stronger in order to be ready to face such agony in the future. Yoi and Chuta are facing their crucibles now. My name is Calin Uesugi, and as I have done with your friends. I will now force you into yours. Use this moment, embrace this pain, use it to guide you. Use the fires of your will to help elevate yourselves to heights you have yet to imagine. Allow me to show you some of the fire within mine.”
That was all Yoi had been awake for during the… incident. Yoi heard the door open, as his father stepped in. “Ready to go son?”
“Sure thing Dad.” The two Yuki walked out of the house, towards the doctor. No matter how good a job that Nekrun person did, his father wanted him to get him fully seen by a doctor. The two walked through town, until they eventually got to the doctor. His father walked up to the receptionist, “I know walk-in’s aren’t allowed today, but I would like the doctor to see my son.”
“Any why would he be any different from any other person that comes to this doctor’s office?”
Yoi’s father whispered to the receptionist, “Yoi was on a mission outside of the country. After being intercepted by a Missing Ninja, he got his eyes cut out, his right arm cut off, and lit on fire. It was thanks to a friendly caravan that they are alive.”
After thinking for a second, the receptionist said, “I’ll get the doctor for you.” After a minute of silent waiting and more memories coming back to Yoi, the doctor showed up. “Ummm, Yoi.”
Yoi’s head perked up, “Yes?”
“Could you come into my office?”
“Sure.” Yoi stood up and come into his office. Once he entered, the doctor closed the blinds and locked the door.
“So Yoi, could you tell me the events of what happened?”
Yoi hesitated before speaking. It still hurt to talk about it. “Sure. So we were finished with the mission and as we neared the Tea and Fire country border, a powerful Missing Ninja stopped us. He took all our ryo and items, then proceeded to cut off limbs, eyes and ears from the three of us. After this, he lit us all on fire. Then a caravan picked us up and we came back home. After that, a medical ninja replicated limbs from a corpse he had, then attached them to us.”
“Thanks. I feel like it is necessary to do a full body check, if that is okay with you.”
“Okay.” Yoi let the doctor examine him.
“So Yoi. I have some news. I’ll let you know that the man that these body parts were taken from wasn’t in the best condition. But, besides that there are a few other problems. For starters, the right arm given to you is too big, so that might take a little bit of getting used to. Also, the scars you have, won’t be going away. Lastly, you might want to consider getting prothstetics. These limbs are not in top notch condition, and you won’t have the same reach on both arms. I suggest buying a prothstetic later in life, but that is up to you.”
“I’ll consider it sir, thank you.”
“Well, that should be all then. It was nice seeing you Yoi.”
“Nice seeing you too.”
Yoi and his father picked up some clothes on the way home. Once they got home, Yoi went up to his room and changed. It was nice to wear the same clothes that he used to. Yoi looked in the mirror and saw how different he was now. The black burn marks across his face. The eyes that weren’t his. Yoi pulled a book down from his shelf, and wrote the following down. “Every time when I look in the mirror. All these lines on my face getting clearer. The past is gone. It went by, like dusk to dawn. Isn't that the way. Everybody's got the dues in life to pay. I know nobody knows. Where it comes and where it goes. I know it's everybody sin. You got to lose to know how to win.”
Yoi closed the book, letting those thoughts filter through his brain. One might have had their will broken by such an encounter with that Missing Ninja. But not Yoi. However, he didn’t have a sound conclusion of what to take from it. Obviously he had gotten stronger. But Calin did have a point about the flaws in the villages system...
