Spooky Goes the Night (HFE, P, IO)

Watching from her perch on the chandelier, Akihana witnessed Jack’s symptoms grow worse even as her own subsided. But then again, she had the benefit of knowing Maku’s techniques well. Their host on the other hand had seriously underestimated how far he could stretch the blond male. A mistake he was paying for now as the wooden dog held on to the crime boss by his neck, draining all strength and perseverance from the man. As soon as the tree branches receded, Akihana leapt down towards the stage, her movements graceful and lithe despite the lack of practice, this mode of shinobi transportation so deeply ingrained in her it executed itself perfectly when she wasn’t thinking too much about it. The blonde landed with a soft splash on the slowly dwindling water, her chakra automatically travelling through her heels and to the water to lift her the tiny bit up that merited the surface walking technique.

“Let him go,” she called out even before Msku was given the opportunity to ask her what should be done with the criminal he now literally had by the collar. The evening had started with a walk and turned into various break ins, a kidnapping or three and even murder. And despite it all, she had followed along. But enough was enough, this was the first time there would be something akin to an authoritative tone in the kunoichi’s voice. “There has been enough death today to add another.” Because as much as she didn’t an to admit it to herself, Maku would surely kill the skeletal man if no one stopped him. And Akihana wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she didn’t at least try.

Should her partner listen and release Jack, Akihana would go over to examine the near dead man carefully, lowering herself down to his prone form on the stage to check his pulse and then place a finger under his nose to ensure he was still breathing. His heartbeat and actual inhales and exhales she could hear from far away but the need to actually feel him alive was one she couldn’t resist. The green chakra she had tried so hard to summon earlier came easily now, repairing any deep wounds or gashes the man had suffered. She would not wake the king of thieves though. No, it would be much better to leave him sleeping.

Jack Skellington would wake up wet, defeated, exhausted and perhaps humiliated but he would not be injured in any way. And he would remember who healed him after his near death experience.

As for Akihana, as soon as she was done with Jack, the blonde would rise to her feet once more, walking towards Maku. “I think it’s tiem we go home,” she’d speak, her voice soft once again, all the edge of authority gone from it like the water that had been on stage only minutes ago. Before she left however, the kunochi would find her red woolen cape, picking it up off the stage. The ddges were singed likely from contact with oen of Maku’s branches but it would still suffice. The young woman was just about to wrap it around her narrow shoulders when she saw Jack’s still form, deciding at the last minute to toss the garment the villain of their missions tonight.

Perhaps it would remind him that there was another way, that he too could change if he wanted to.

Together, Maku and Akihana walked out of Christmas Town under the light of a new dawn, washing away clean the nightmares of the night before.

Not being allowed to properly think, a tone he rarely every got to hear rang out from the pale figure.  “Bossy bossy.”  He’d say instead of the offering he’d give.  Patting the head of the Foo Dog, he’d whisper “down boy” causing the wooden creature to retract.  It would back away, but it would persist.  He’d leave his wooden constructs here, he’d taken a liking to them.  It made him think he’d like to develop his wood release skills further, there was something comforting about them, and the new challenge was welcome.

His Sharingan would watch as Aki did her work, properly healing the man......leaving him be.  He’d watch in almost absolutely silence as she continued her work, and it wasn’t until she was ready to leave that he’d also start getting ready.  Waiting for her he’d take out a scratch piece of paper and write a quick little note.  Forming a handseals he’d cause the Foo Dog to come over and take the note, before moving it to be right over Jack.  Not touching him.  At what was surely a surly look, Maku would simply say “It’s Halloween, good for a scare” he’d chuckle a little as they left.

The contents of the paper, he would share with her later, but indeed he had written out that he wasn’t mad, and he’d be willing to work with Jack again if he ever had a mission.  In truth, the man had taken a gamble.  If he’d won, it would be worth if not it wouldn’t.  Maku could respect it, and therefore was ready to move on.  If it hadn’t been such a long night, he’d likely have not been so hasty in his actions. In truth, all it took to forget about killing the man was the tiny Ouse that Akihana had offered.  In truth, every death through the evening could have been prevented by that same little bit of authority.  Shame it didn’t always work out that way, or was it a boon.......hard to say, but it for sure was a boom.

They’d walk out, traveling through the night, and at her bequest, they would indeed go home.  He had thought for a time he’d like to return to Takigakure, and maybe he still did......but for now he wanted to show Akihana something else.  Something he’d been working on.....a place to really relax.  It wouldn’t have the same charm as the flat,  but it had more emotion in it.  “Hey.......I’ve been wanting to take you some place....I want Den to come to, but I think........well I think you should see it first.  For a bit of closure....”. He would say a little cryptically.  Reaching out, he’d take her hand, forming a seal before he did.   The familiar golden bubble would encompass them both, before collapsing, whisking them away from a Halloween night, and into a new morning.
