Team Training Exercise
Sun Nov 17, 2019 10:29 am
An eerie arena Kizmaru has never noticed before now's been caught by his sight. He wasn't sure who made this or way but all he knew was he was gonna check it out anyways, who knows maybe he could use it as a new stomping ground. He made his way into the arena and looked around for a bit. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as he could tell other than the ominous feeling it gave and what feels like some form of mystical and unknown power. After making his observation Kizmaru briefly left the arena to make note of his surroundings. It was a large, purple, luminescent arena that housed a two-hundred diameter of lavender-white tiles for, what he assumed was for combat purposes. Today, there was a slight chill, light mist that didn't obscure vision much and a light drizzle. Kizmaru already forgot what reason he was outside for, maybe taking one of his strolls and daydreaming as usual but this was definitely something worth catching his eye. He figured he would inform his previous teammates and about this and tell them to come over for some training and a light sparring session. Kizmaru knows they could all use it for future endeavors. This was hardly peaceful times but even then, there was always something lurking around the corner. Feeling anxious, Kizmaru walked off to go and grabbed the first two genin he could think of that may or may not be interested in training, Kazushi and Maikohiro. Hopefully, he could look up there places of residences and find them, if he didn't run into them out and about in the streets of Kiri.

A chill sparked at the twin muscles that make up the low of his back, and slowly travelled up the spine of the young Terumi as he made his way into the arena, making him shiver uncomfortably in his blue jacket. Even though he was certain it was this place’s vibe getting to him, he tried his best to not let it, instead attributing the sudden and rapid contraction and relaxation of his back muscles to the chill in the islands, in part coming from the light drizzle that made up the fog that blanketed the archipelago today. The purple shades of the arena contrasted with the pale ceramic laid on the floor, two hundred meters of otherwise immaculately laid tile. Such was the eerie feeling around this place, he could scarce remember how he got into it.
All he knew was that he received the invitation from Kizmaru, the young adult who had participated in the seasonal mission involving the space-time operated door to the bizarre town, in which Takahiro had gone inside to retrieve a candy cane. Kazushi was not too happy about accepting the invitation of another to come into a big creepy arena, especially considering the age gap between the two, but hopefully the other lad would show up soon too. Kazushi contemplatively walked to the middle of the arena. One hundred meters in every direction, lavender tile taunted him in their peace whereas the ninja stood in anxious relaxation. “This better be a good session, I need to flex this tension off my muscles.”

The invitations had been sent out and all he had to do now was see who was willing to show up. Making his way back to the arena, Kizmaru was winding his shoulders in a clockwise motion in order to relieve the tension and stiffness. He wanted to test his combat skills even if it was only hand to hand to get the kinks out. Upon arriving to the the purple arena, the first thing he noticed was one of the Genin from the strange request had shown up. If he recalled correctly, this one was called Kazushi and the one he deemed as the team leader at the time. He smirked a bit since he was glad he had shown up. Turning his head from the right to the left, Kizmaru also went to see if the other Genin had shown up. Apparently, he had not shown up yet or maybe was planning on coming at all. He did get a lazy vibe from that one other genin but it didn't matter at this moment. As long as one of them showed up for practice, that was all that matter. Walking into the Arena, he traveled until was at least a few feet away from Kazushi. Eyeing him, he wondered if this was really the only training partner that came to his mind. Well, he figured he should be grateful that he even showed up unlike the other one. Well, it was time to get to business. The agenda today was to have some light sparring or a mock battle.
Look at Kazushi, Kizmaru decided it was best for him to speak up a bot on why he was here. "Hey, Kazushi was it? Thanks for showing up and sorry for dragging you out into this weather but i couldn't sit at home and do nothing. I'm in between missions right now and it might take some time before i get another assignment so i was looking for a little workout, what do ya say? You can even choose between light sparring where we only do hand to hand or a mock battle where we can fight with all of our might, holding back enough so we don't kill each other anyways. So, what do ya say? We could both stand to learn from this," Kizmaru said in a rather familiar tone. It wasn't like they were strangers or anything but he might as well try to get to know him a little better. He felt a strange bond with him and figured he might as well just got for deepening it. He felt a little weird since he was a decade older than him but he figured he could be a sort of older brother and possibility a mentor to him even though he didn't really know much about the ninja world himself.
Still he awaited that response and started to walk away before even hearing it. Regardless of the boy's choice, whether he said yes or not, Kizmaru had begun to walk away from him now until he was at least a meter away. He would either enter a combat stance or prepare to perform some calisthenics in order to improve his flexibility and mobility depending on his choice. Kizmaru still felt quite lucky that one of them had shown up. He had hoped they both would show but he wouldn't count on the second one too hard. That was his choice if he wanted to practice jutsu and train and there was only so much Kizmaru could.

Across the arena, another showed up. Kazushi's natural instinct was to tense himself lightly, his feet planted firmly onto the floor with the heel raised ever so slightly to facilitate pushing his leg into the floor to evade and move, the twins at the lower leg tensing and instilling discipline to be followed by the thighs, preparation in case it was needed, knees slightly bent so as to not be stiff, buttocks pressed and the lower back working together with his abdomen to maintain his posture tall as it was, his ribcage relaxed to facilitate oxygen intake. His arms, previously at his sides hangin uselessly, swung behind his back so his right hand could hold the left hand by the wrist, a military pose taught to him by his uncle.
Even from this distance though, Kazushi was able to recognize the lad that approached at a leisurely pace. Kizmaru of the Senju Clan. Noble, the white hair of the youth allying to his peaceful visage to exude wisdom beyond his young years. His bloodline was a blessed one, to be sure: Kazushi wasn't one to eye other boys or men romantically, but he might be able to see his appeal to someone of the opposite gender. He himself wouldn't complain of his own genetic or looks; he was well built, possessing a bloodline many would kill for without hesitation, and the bandages hid nothing hideous, quite on the contrary, if his parents' and Uncle's words were anything to go by. As the distance between the two was cut short by the other genin, blue coats, salt and pepper hair, the power of the old shinobi world's gods running in their blood, Kazushi felt the same sensation of comfort when closer to the genin, as though he were the older brother he never had. He didn't let his face show it though, nor did his body slouched away from the relaxed violence it was promising.
"Hello, Kizmaru." Hard to forget a name you read recently in an invitation. He heard the lad carefully, and a smirk drew on his face revealed only by his cheek rising, maybe not the most visible of motions but perceptible to the trained eye. As Kizmaru prepared himself, Kazushi stretched his arms behind his back, taking a moment to stretch his neck from one side to the other. "Why not both?", he inquired. "We'll start with light sparring, body only, and then we can move on to a mock battle. I've been practicing my stuff but nothing like a proper session to see what it does. Holding back, of course."
He stretched his legs, twisted his torso from side to side, put his hands together in front of his face and took a curt bow in a display of sportsmanship towards his sparring partner, then fell into position: one leg forwards, tip of the foot into the floor, heel lifted, knee slightly bent to lower his center of gravity and manage his balance better, the other leg at a forty five degree angle but with the same form. His hips and shoulders were angled too, his left side facing closer to Kizmaru while the right side slinked away, his torso slightly hunched forward so he could duck his head behind his shoulders should the need arise. His hands faced forward towards Kizmaru, bandaged hands and fingers open and waiting to grab at an attack or curl and punch. "Let us fight, Kizmaru of the Senju."
For an instant, he mentally thanked his Uncle for teaching him the ropes of combat. Now it would be time to see if his teachings would hold up in real combat.

Listening to the boy's choice, a smirk had appeared across Kizmaru's face as he told they should do both. He thought it was a splendid idea since he was interested in seeing how he would fair in both hand-to-hand and an all out brawl. Kizmaru then responded, "Alright, that's the plan, kiddo. Let's do it but first it's in my best interest to warm a little bit to work the kinks out. I'll start with some stretches. Give me a minute. Don't wanna pull anything." He chuckled under his breath, feeling like an old man when compared to this kid before he began his stretches and limbering up. What a guy this boy was, wanting to do both. Now that Kizmaru thought about it, his arsenal was quite small since he only knew the academy techniques and a few offensive techniques but he was sure that he could make the most of it. The only problem he had was the like of environment to use to his advantage. Well, he'll see how it plays out when the battle begins. For now, he would concentrate on preparing his body.
Twisting his waist from right to left and then to the right again, Kizmaru decided he would use this opportunity to limber up some more of his body rather than from just the shoulder rotations he did on his way here. To properly loosen up, he continued to pivot from right to left a few more times just to be certain. After that, he brought his left forearm towards the bicep of his right arm, curling his right over his left, giving it a few tugs while twisting his upper body slightly to the right in order to stretch. He repeated this process with his other arm, placing his right forearm onto his left bicep, curling around it with his left arm and giving it a few tugs with while twisting to the left. Continuing his routine stretching, he placed his left hand onto his temple, leaning his upper body to the right to stretch the left side of his upper body, bobbing at the sides a little to loosen the muscles surrounding his rib cage. He repeated this process for the right side of his body, placing his right hand onto his temple and leaning his upper body to the left to loosen his muscles on the other side of his rib cage, bobbing to the side.
Once he was done with that exercise, he leaned his upper body forward in an attempt to touch his toes, straightening out his back and making it as limber as he could. He straightened his body up before leaning backwards as far as he could, bobbing as best as he could but not too much since he didn't want to leave any discomfort when trying to align his spine. Now it was time for the lower half of his body, Taking one giant step forward with his right leg, Kizmaru bends his left knee towards the ground, without it making contact to the ground, whilst outstretching his right leg into an arch, performing a lunge. He then straightened up his body up before taking another giant step forward with his left leg, bending his right knee towards the ground, without it making contact to the ground, whilst outstretching his left leg into an arch, performing another lunge. Kizmaru repeated this process two more times for each leg until he was good and ready. Now the time has come for battle and Kizmaru prepared to enter his stance.
Standing with his feet shoulder-width apart and taking one step back with his right foot and orienting it so his feet are at right angles to each other. His left leg was relaxed, with the majority of his weight on their right foot, keeping his body straight but maintained the same angle. He brought his hands in front of his face, curling them whiling lean his head forward behind them for better coverage of the face and holding his elbows forward so he could maneuver his arms to block body shots to his ribs or liver. This was a basic stance for a person that primarily used kicks in fights because it lends itself well to kicking and allows for greater mobility and stability. He was ready now, holding his stance he began to inch closer towards Kazushi. "Well, get ready. Here i come," Kizmaru said as he started his attack. He slightly raised his right leg a couple inches off the ground and delivered it into the left side of Kazushi's left shin. He would then follow up with a light jab from his left, aiming for the lower right side of Kazushi's face. He figured it would be best to start of testing the waters to see what the boy was capable of in close quarters. Who knows, maybe who ever won this fight would be the one on the front line when it came to team missions, involving combat. But for right now, he needed the practice and he would take advantage of it for all it's worth.

Re: Team Training Exercise

Kizmaru asked for a minute to stretch, and Kazushi consented. Stretching was an important part of practice, after all, and despite everything, he too should stretch. However, that was one of the reasons he had bandages in so many sections of his body: in case of an emergency and quick need of battle, he could engage without worrying about pulling a muscle or a tendon in the heat of things. It was important to stay limber, but also important to be able to jump into action at a moment’s notice: after all, he knew of no predator which limbered up before going in for the kill.
But alas, it was stretching time. He relaxed his stance, laced his fingers together and pushed his hands away from his body with palms facing away from him, stretching his arms. He then pushed his fingers down on each hand, palms facing upwards before facing them down, to stretch his forearms. He stretched his arms upwards next, using the time to rotate his shoulders. He stretched one leg and let his body slink the opposite direction, resting his hands on his knees, then switching the leg, arching his body up and down. Standing back up, he brought his knees up, holding on to them for a few seconds at a time. When Kizmaru assumed his fighting stance, he fell back into his own. Their stances were wildly different; the white haired youth closed himself off, an impressive defense the would prove hard to penetrate, while keeping his forward leg limber so as to snap into attack quickly. Their size difference also meant that he would have incredible reach in comparison to the Terumi youth; and that was where his stance would come in handy. Because the greatest advantage to the Senju came from his reach, the mixture of striking and grappling from the Art of the Eight Limbs meant Kazushi could dance between strikes to land his own, preferably sliding inside the close quarters to use knee and elbow alike. If he was struck by one of those legs though, it could mean big trouble. A good guillotine kick could knock anyone out cold.
The first salvo came in, a right leg low kick. The issue with the right leg was that it was a telegraphed attack; as it circled upwards to strike Kizmaru, he raised his left leg so the shins would meet each other, a short but effective block for them as were able to sustain the pain of such contact, before planting the tip of the foot on the floor for stability. Pain jolted on his shin due to lack of real practice, but it was endurable, and it did not affect his ability to move.
The follow-up came from the left hand, which due to their stances, would be the reach testing hand, meant only to distract and initiate combos but never to deliver blows. Kazushi wondered if Kizmaru had any formal training in hand-to-hand. His open palm stance would immediately come in handy; the difference in their speed proved effective when Kazushi slapped away the hand in a diagonal trajectory from up and out slapping it inwards and down towards his chest which would be slightly further away from the lad’s reach; if it connected, he would use the opening and momentum of the lad’s strike to deliver a left jab himself aimed at the left side of the lad’s face, avoiding hitting his right arm or the left arm that would be stretched in between them. As this happened he made sure his strike was delivered by his stretched arm, his shoulder covered his lower half of the left face, while his right arm came and his hand covered his face up to where his hairline started, the flexed arm would cover his entire right side down to his ribcage.
This was, however, a distraction, meant to tag his opponent and physically map his position. He would simultaneously retract his left arm as he reached with the right arm, closed fist trying to tag the same cheek he might’ve hit, left arm retracting to protect his face and ribs mirroring his right arm just seconds before. To add reach and power to the strike, his right foot twisted from its angled position to face Kizmaru, resulting in his hip turning and granting further reach and twisting motion which was what made the right hand the striking hand.
As if the assault wouldn’t be enough, he then proceeded to step sideways to his left, circling Kizmaru; he twisted his torso to the left too, then rose his left arm to be perpendicular to the floor, flexed as an L, and proceeded to rotate his entire torso clockwise to deliver a hook to what would likely be an unprotected Kizmaru. All of his striking was held back, of course, meant to tap the lad rather than bruise him. All actions completed successfully, he would take an entire step back and wait for the reaction of his sparring partner, resuming his initial posturing with angled legs on the tip of his feet, hands open for possible striking counteraction.

As he delivered his kick towards the leg of the boy named Kazushi, the boy had reacted by lifting up the leg in question so there shins collided with each other instead of with Kizmaru's intended target. Kizmaru felt a sharp pain in his shin but didn't pay much mind to it since he was already delivering his second strike towards the boy's face. The boy had reacted by slapping Kizmaru's left arm down towards his chest. Overall, he thought it was a pretty good maneuver on the boy's part since he had made a blunder himself, leaving his left side of Kizmaru's body defenseless for the time being. Now, it seems the boy would retaliate with a left jab of his own, aiming for the right side of Kizmaru's face. He was already prepared for this since his right arm as already present, near his face. Adjusting it ever so slightly across his face so the point of contact, regarding Kazushi's punch would be his forearm, blocking the first initial jab. As Kazushi attempted to go in for a second strike using his right arm, Kizmaru swiftly brought his left arm straight up from his chest, angling his wrist into making an 'L' shaped position with his hand and forearm. Using it to deflect the second jab the boy had thrown with his right and pushing up in a vertical direction, flicking his wrist at the height of momentum, being above Kizmaru's hair for some additional force.
This would send the boy's arm directly towards the sky a few inches more giving Kizmaru time to outstretch his right arm from its previous affixed position with a wider arch of his arm towards the right side of the boy's head a little below the ear in retaliation attempting to stagger the kid briefly, while he brought his left arm back to the initial position it was he first entered his combat stance, reaffirming his guard to the left side of his face and rib cage. When he finished throwing his right hook and it was returning to the side of his face, Kizmaru followed up by stepping forward a few centimeters with his right foot, positioning and balancing his left leg to be brought up, pivoting on his right clockwise leg in order to bring his leg into the left side of Kazushi's rib cage in an attempt to deliver a middle kick and knock him off his balance briefly. Kizmaru was starting to get into the swing of things as he started to warm up and enjoy the initial exchange of blows him and the boy were performing. He knew this was training and yet he couldn't help but feel excited as his attacks got deflected and in turn, he deflects the boy's own attacks. He decided after his last kick, he'd take a step back when his leg returned to it's initial position to see how Kazushi was faring.
"Are you still with me," Kizmaru had asked after taking his step back. He wanted to know if this was too taxing or he could continue at this pace. It was a spar, but it was also a fight that would determine their starting positions and abilities if they ever went out into the shinobi world where they would mostly have to fight to the death against other potentially armed and dangerous shinobi. He wasn't saying everything they would do in the future would be life threatening but chances are that they would do, would result in a high risk of death. Regardless, Kizmaru would begin to step forward once the boy had given his response, depending on how he answered he would either continue at the pace he was going or he'd dial it down a bit. Either way, he was enjoying himself and getting some combat practice in and that's what mainly mattered to him.

His first strike touched the lad’s forearm, which overall wasn’t too bad of a result: it meant the lad wasn’t entirely uneducated in the taijutsu arts. A slight tap on the bony structure of the forearm was not healthy on the knuckles, and that was why the forearm was a good defense against punches in general. It would not hold up against a leg strike though; and that was why you would defend a leg strike with the reverse side of the forearm, the muscly and softer part that could cushion the blow. However, the block was just the beginning, as Kizmaru brought his hand back in, in time to punch his right hand upwards: Kazushi realized what was happening just in time and twisted his arm inwards so the elbow faced up and his arm was not broken by the blow, instead it just bent upwards peacefully even if slightly upset.
From the corner of his eye he noticed the outstretched arm of his partner, and how it flew in to establish contact with his face. It was, again, a telegraphed strike, and without a proper distraction all Kazushi had to do was lift his left shoulder and aim his elbow at Kizmaru’s face, his hand cupping his ear to create a barrier against an ear strike that could dishorient him. Hopefully Kizmaru’s haymaker wouldn’t strike the elbow directly, otherwise that would be incredibly painful. However, the strike aimed at the right side of his face would never connect with such delivery.
Once delivered and retracted, Kizmaru took a step forward: a knee strike would be coming in, since with Kizmaru’s long reach and their current stances, it would be the most logical option. The time for a gamble was now: using his superior speed and the retracting right hand of the lad, he stepped up close and personal to his reach, and lowered his left arm toward the thigh of the lad, slapping it down, while his face hugged his left shoulder, completely hunched to create a cover alongside his raised right arm. He would step in between Kizmaru’s feet, his own left foot straight underneath his right leg. His right foot stepped slightly to the left of the left foot, putting him in a precarious position, but all happened so fast there would be scarcely any time to react to any of this quick positioning. He would then twist his hips so his switched feet would become unswitched, and his torso rotated fast accordingly; he would duck towards his left side while he brought his right arm upwards at a vertical angle, his elbow aiming to tap the lad in the face, hopefully on a cheek and not on the nose, although due to the height difference all he needed was to lift his head and the elbow would strike the neck or clavicles. Kizmaru’s leg, if it even managed to keep going up, would hug Kazushi with the thigh, but otherwise do nothing much.
All done in a matter of a couple seconds, Kazushi stepped back and pushed himself off of Kizmaru, gaining some distance to get a moment to breath. “I think I am. Let me know if you want to take a break, old man.” A taunt was healthy in sparring sessions, wouldn’t want the other to think things were getting serious. On the other hand, he thought Kizmaru would have floored him by now if he was a taijutsu specialist: his reach lent itself very well to hand-to-hand combat, and if he was his Uncle’s nephew instead of Kazushi, the young Terumi would be in a very dangerous situation. Now in this sparring session, only a couple of strikes in, the young Terumi began to realize how much he enjoyed fighting. Perhaps he would one day take his Uncle’s teachings to the next level and specialize in hand-to-hand, the Art of the Eight Limbs as he heard his Uncle calling it. Perhaps one day he would grow as tall and strong as his Uncle and Father, and he would be able to become a destructive force as the two had been.
Kazushi re-assumed his position and stance, twisting his left wrist so as to make a calling motion with his fingers, readying for Kizmaru’s possible strikes. He wasn’t a coward, but when the other had such a reach advantage, it would be stupid to make the first step into the greater reach when he could just be kept at bay with long strikes. His best bet would be to counterattack and slide into the reach of the other for knee and elbow strikes.

Things didn't go as planned for Kizmaru as he had hoped too. It seems the boy had lifted his left shoulder and aim his elbow at Kizmaru’s face, his hand cupping his ear in order to defend himself from Kizmaru's blow. Another problem had surfaced for Kizmaru since they boy had raised his arm in such a way, it would now mean his knuckles were in danger of colliding with the boy's elbow. It was too late for Kizmaru to retract his attack but he could still divert it slightly further to the right so it would miss the boy's elbow. This would also mean he wouldn't be able to hit is intended target bit it was better than the alternative that was presented to him at the moment. He managed to avoid getting out of a hairy situation that could have cause him some broken fingers, maybe even worse if the injury was severe enough. Still, it was a good maneuver for the boy to use in such a short amount of time. With that, there was still a matter of the knee strike he was going to deliver towards the boy's leg. Unfortunately, it didn't go as Kizmaru had hoped and it was easily deflected as well. Paying close attention to the boy in front of him, Kizmaru began to observe his movements.
He watched as boy stepped in between Kizmaru's feet. Kizmaru then readied his left arm, opening his clenched fist into a palm to retaliate against the next blow that may come his way since the boy was in his striking range. While the boy started to get into position, Kizmaru reached towards the boy's chest giving him firm push with his open palm, forcing the boy backwards in order to interrupt the next action he was gonna perform. The next action the boy took was quite strange though, it seems he purposely left himself off balance in order to better position himself for the next strike. Though while he was in motion, Kizmaru had already begun to push the boy backwards but, because of the stance the boy, Kazushi took, instead of knocking him back, he had instead caused him to lose his balance and fall backwards. The boy tried his best to chain his movements into one fluid motion but it ended up backfiring because their difference in speed wasn't as vast as he had hoped it to be. After knocking the boy down, he pondered on whether he should continue to attack or wait for him to get back up.
This was a spar after all so there was no reason to continue to attack his partner if he was on the ground. He simply took a step back and watching the boy some more. Kazushi then said something that made him raise a brow before giving off an agitated chuckle. It was referring to his age even though he was old yet but he assumed that was still old enough to the boy in front of him. He was after all a full decade ahead of him in the mortal coil so it shouldn't be all that surprising. Well, then it was time for him to give his retort. "Well, you seem piquant enough to continue so get up and let's get on with it. And i'm not old at all, i'm only twenty-four! Now let's continue unless it's YOU who needs a break," Kizmaru said, playfully. He reaffirms his stance once more if everything played out like he wanted it too and held fast in case the boy wished to do something else.

Much as Kazushi felt he was faster than Kizmaru, he wasn’t all that faster, and Kizmaru’s action displayed that in a simple yet effective way. Before the young Terumi was able to complete his rotation, the positioning of the Senju afforded him enough time to take advantage of the youth’s feet to push him and effectively render him a floored fool. Using the momentum of the push and fall, alongside his own rotation, Kazushi simply rolled away from Kizmaru and stood up, facing the elder. He dusted himself off lightly, his face reddening under the bandages; he felt slightly humiliated that he was put down so easily, however he should feel grateful this was just a team exercise and not a serious fight; someone could’ve sunk a kunai in between his ribs if he had tried that little stunt out in the real world.
“Well, I mean, you say you’re not old, but then you use worlds like piquant, so, you know…” He chuckled at his partner. “I don’t even know what piquant means. You’re ancient, man!”
As Kizmaru got ready for the next round, Kazushi assumed his own combat position, wiggling his fingers to keep them limber. He took a step forward, feigned a left kick by raising his left leg with speed, but quickly pulled it back for an improvised right flying kick, using the speed of his pulling back left leg to increase the momentum of his right leg, hopefully catching his sparring partner off guard, all the while as this happened his torso leaned backwards so as to lean his hips forward and increase the effective range of his kicking as well as gaining distance from a possible punch, hook or haymaker. Should it hit, it wouldn’t do much, for Kazushi held back just enough that it would be a light tap and not a strong strike. He would then retreat in anticipation for the counterstrike; however, should his kick be grabbed, he would just lean into Kizmaru and attempt to strike him with his knee, using the grabbed leg as a spring with which to pull his own weight against the lower abdomen of the taller lad, a strike that might cause more pain than the kick would. From that position, it would be easy to clinch the tall Senju lad and use his own body as a station to lean against to bring his left knee up and rotate it repeatedly against the Senju. It would be a difficult position to be in though, considering the size difference, he might be easily wrestled to the ground.
If he was the victim of a swiping low kick, on the other hand, he would just slap the floor and take the opportunity to fling himself away in hopes of gaining some distance and respite, then preparing himself for the follow up. Hopefully, he would just land the first blow and gain distance immediately.
