Tour Guide(Bernie)

Another day, another beginning for Kizmaru in the land of the new hidden mist village. Waking up from his bed, stretching and yawning, Kizmaru climbed out if like he normally does and headed straight for the bathroom in his tiny apartment. He quickly undressed, showered and freshened up before he put on his attire that normally consists of a yellow shirt, navy blue pants and a navy blue jacket as well as his tabi. Groggily, he headed for the door leading outside of his apartment to see what kind of task he was going to be able to take today. He hoped for something simple but rewarding but if not, he would hope for something simple. Today, he was in a disagreeable mood and just wanted things to go smoothly so he can crawl back in bed and just hide under his sheets. Like his mood, the weather seems to have mirrored it perfectly as it was also quite disagreeable. A heavy fog had plagued the area, low visibility with a slight, windy chill going about. This day couldn't get any worse as he started to make his way to the mission desk, hoping the receptionist had something easy to give him. Upon arrival, he checked the board to see if there was anything interesting he could take. After a few moments of checking, he figured he'd go with one as a tour guide for some tourists. Back in the day under Xyxer's rule, nobody would usually come here for a simple vacation since it was too dangerous.

Now that their Kage is off on some important quest or something like that, it seems people are taking advantage of returning to the new Kirigakure, formerly known as Shimagakure, like some sort of family fun vacation. Well, whatever. The nation has to make money somehow and this isn't a bad way to do with all the bloody business all but gone. Sighing and then placing his hands into his pockets, he was apparently suppose to be one of two tour guides running the show today. Kizmaru asked if it had anything to do with the previous Genin he had went on the mission before but he just shook his head, no and informed Kizmaru this would be somebody completely new that he's never met before. He was also told he might be a little, strange. Kizmaru shrugged at that last big of information seeing as he was a twenty four year old shinobi that was still a genin at his age. Nothing would top that he assumed as he walked out with his task at hand. He was suppose to go to a nearby harbor in order to greet the would be tourists and wait for them as well as meet his partner in question. 

As he made his way to the harbor, Kizmaru thought on what the receptionist had said, saying this person was strange and what not. All sorts of crazy ideas had sprouted from his head as he traveled to his destination. Finally arriving, he figured he'd wait up a bit to see what his partner in  question would look like instead of wandering off to keep himself entertained. It would take about twenty minutes before the cruise ship with all the rich tourists show up to have their bit of fun.

Kirigakure; An area that was under a near constant fog. It was known as the Village Hidden in the Mist for a reason, after all. Behind it, standing tall and seemingly untouched by time, were the mountains that protected its rear entrance. It was a village that was naturally endowed with plenty of defenses, and yet that safety had allowed for them to show aggression. Regardless of whether or not the war was a good idea, there were still those who needed to get things done outside of the ongoing efforts outside of the village. These individuals who stayed behind were mostly the lower ranked ninja, the Genin and Chuunin who were not quite ready for the realities of war. The idea that they were too young or impressionable was one with solid basis, but there were some who defied the very nature of what a "Genin" or "Chuunin" should be.

Bernie Sandaru was one such ninja.

Well into his seventies, he was perhaps the oldest Genin of all time, and certainly the oldest new ninja to ever come out of the Mist. He was not embarrassed by his age or late start, and instead was rather proud of who he was and the fact that he was able to get a new beginning so late in life. That said, with age came wisdom. The wisdom to not leap headfirst into a new career without any sort of help, especially one where the unexpected could mean death for all those involved. So, when Bernie showed up late to the mission desk, he was informed that there was already someone waiting for him down by the harbor. "Would you escort me? I'm not quite sure where that is..." His words were that of an innocent old man, and the receptionist reluctantly agreed. After all, while it seemed ridiculous that a seventy-odd year old wouldn't know where the harbor was, he still should respect his elders.

Fool.

For the short, five minute walk to the harbor, Bernie inundated his escort with facts of the Kirigakure healthcare system- That is, the lack thereof. As they neared the harbor, within earshot of his guide for this mission, he was still in full swing of his pitch. "Do you think, as one of the most powerful Ninja Villages in the world, we cannot afford to give affordable free healthcare to both our ninja and our villagers? It's absurd to think that we allow the pharmaceutical ninja of this village to reap such an incredible profit at the average persons expense. I believe we need to-" His words were cut off as the escort pointed towards Kizmaru, stating only his name before turning off. Showing the face of someone who was obviously annoyed at the suddenly ended conversation, Bernie turned his attention instead to the one who would be doing this mission with him.

"Pleasure, Kizmaru. My name is Bernie. I look forward to doing this mission with you."

Waiting for the cruise ship to appear, Kizmaru gazed out into the ocean where he was expecting to see the ship in site any minute now. He figured this would go quick and easy if he just escorted them to the island's most famous places of interests and casino resorts. Nothing too difficult. Kizmaru wasn't paying too much attention when two other figures had arrived on the scene. It was only when he heard the voice of a frail sounding old man did he turn and look at him. Eyeing the elder up and down, the man began to introduce himself as Bernie but not before revealing that he already knew Kizmaru's name. This shocked him a bit since he thought the cruise ship was suppose to arrive later then when he got here by a full twenty minutes and had assumed he'd still have minutes to kill. It then dawned on him that he said he was going to be doing this mission WITH Kizmaru which left him rather speechless. Raising his left brow, Kizmaru was a bit taken back at the elder man in front of him. He stammered a response at first but then cleared his throat before he attempted to properly respond to the elderly man. "Y-yeah, you got the right guy but wait, are you sure you're my partner for this mission and not apart of the cruise ship tour old man," he had asked, looking around to see if he could find something that would probably tell him what time it was.

He wasn't expecting somebody to be so, old to be his partner but at the same time, he wasn't sure if they couldn't find him anybody else or since he wasn't doing anything dangerous, they decided to send this old man with him to accompany him for easy pay. Either way, a job as a job and he intended to do it, with out without this man's help But first, he had to make absolutely sure this was the guy that he was suppose to work with. The cruise ship was now visible to the two of them and they both had to get ready to start greeting their guests. It still wouldn't make it for another five minutes which was more than enough time to get the answers he wanted from this ole man like how old he was or fir how long he'd been a shinobi. After all, he hasn't met anybody that was older than himself that was still a genin which was truly a baffling concept to wrap around his mind.

The response was one that was expected, the usual type of questioning that arose when Bernie would arrive on the scene as a genin. He was, after all, the antithesis to everything that one imagined a ninja to be. There had been cased, of course, of ninja as old as him being known throughout the world. These edge cases, however, were almost always incredibly accomplished, having lived harsh lives which allowed their age to reflect a sense of power and authority. When one met someone such as Sandaru and found out he was a ninja, it was likely that without any other information they would expect him to be one of those ancient greats of whom stories resonated about. Yet, to find out that such an elderly man was indeed a newly blossomed genin, now that must have been quite the surprise.

More surprising still would have to be the fact that nothing about him seemed old. He stood tall, chin tilted up to show a sense of confidence in his movement and the way in which he carried himself. His body was fit, as could be deemed from the clothing he wore that hugged his frame well. His chest was well built, stomach flat and arms rather impressive. If it were not for his aged face and neck, one would likely think that Bernie was just another young ninja who was making his way in the world.

"I can assure you that I am a competent genin of the Village Hidden in the Mist, and that I am here to help you throughout this mission." His eyes turned toward the water, offering a reflection of the sparkling surface. The refraction of the light made his eyes look bigger, full of hope and dreams. "Speak of the devil and he shall come; There they are, Kizmaru." Putting a reassuring hand on the other ninjas shoulder and patting twice, the smile never left Bernie's face. "There they are."

As the ship came up, Bernie and Kizmaru would be there to greet them and help them off the ship. Making sure to call out to the captain and ensure that the duo understood which time these tourists needed to be returned to the docks, the younger ninja and the doctor would make their way from the harbor and into the village. There was not much in terms of aesthetically appealing buildings, but there was a wealth of history to Kiri that had only grown in the recent months. The two of them showed those from the ship around the village, and Bernie often spoke up with little tidbits of information that was not commonly known. They were not village secrets, nor were the necessarily bits of information that one would normally hope to find out about a new place. They were just memories of shops that once existed, families that once resided in certain neighborhoods, and recollections of how the public reacted to certain events in times past. All in all, the tour went off without a hitch and allowed those visiting Kirigakure to experience a sense of being at home by the time they were returned to the ship. It was a mission well done.

Examining the older gentleman once more, it seems Kizmaru had made the mistake of assuming he was just a frail, elderly man. Well, either way, it didn't change the fact he was much older than Kizmaru was despite his appearance. He still gave off an elderly vibe with the way he talks and so he just left it at that. They had a job to do and Kizmaru figured he'd ask him his secret later on how to stay in shape long enough to make it seem like he was younger later or to teach him if he was using some kind of jutsu to hide his actual appearance.  Kizmaru then responded to the man, "I-i see. Well, i hope we get along for this mission as well as in the future."  Shortly afterwards, Bernie had mentioned the ship was pulling into harbor, placing his hand on Kizmaru's shoulder. He took a look at the hand before looking at the ship in question dock at the harbor they were standing in. Kizmaru decided he would follow Bernie's lead when it came to being the tour guide. Letting Bernie do the majority of the speaking, spoke only when spoken too in the mos friendly manner he could afford and listened to some of the bits Bernie told that even he didn't know about. Wisdom came with age, he assumed. The tour went great overall, judging from the loud murmuring and the expressions of the tourists. After that, Kizmaru decided it was time for him to collect his pay from the mission board and went off to collect it before going on with his day.
