Sometimes the role of a Shinobi extends pass the common guidelines of combat, and flashy acts of sign-weaving. Kumogakure is pure eye candy when looked upon by tourists of the neighboring villages, but although the village may look beautiful, problems still exist internally that every civilization faces day by day. The shelters were underfunded at the time, and with the cold settling in as winter emerged, it would be easy for anyone to catch a cold out in this weather. Today, the upcoming Cloud Ninja Rayul was tasked with delivering common necessities to a few shelters around the village. Blankets, Hand Warmers, Food: These were just some of the items he'd be handing out while visiting the shelters today. He packed his bag with the items he received at the mission briefing, and headed out from his humble abode on yet another village adventure!
He knew right away that this would be a rather "boring" assignment. No form of combat would be active, and he didn't see any way that he'd be able to get some practice in with his Sharingan. He, however, did bring along his Jutsu Encyclopedia, and a scroll belonging to the Uchiha Lineage that contained detailed information about advancing the Sharingan from 1 Tomoe into a 2 Tomoe variant. If he had any downtime during the mission, whether it be a run to the bathroom or a quick break for lunch, he promised himself that he would continue training his mind, since he cannot train himself physically while running the errand at hand. The first shelter he reached was fairly close to his home, about two blocks away to be exact. He entered inside, and his heart was filled with minor despair. The building was packed it was filled to the point in which people had nowhere to sit, so the entire entrance wing was littered with men, women, children, and strays just laying all over the floor. Some of them had clothes, others were less, fortunately, and sneezing and coughing were the only things he could hear. His mind was filled with a million thoughts. "Is this what goes on in Kumo?", he thought. "It's such a beautiful village, nobody would've ever thought that so much poverty could exist, especially with how many missions Shinobi are being sent on daily." Life is always a questionable gamble. All that glitters is not gold, as his Aunt would tell him as a child growing up. He knew that everything that looked good did not mean that it was good, but still, this was something that he was completely unaware of and felt as if it was nobody's fault but his own that he could miss out on such a crucial situation of his homeland for so long. As he regained his composure mentally, he wastes no time taking off his backpack to begin shuffling throughout its contents. Person-by-person, Rayul walks around the building, handing out blankets, socks, tissues, canned foods and whatever else he could to everyone he could. He knew his supplies were limited and that he wouldn't be able to help them all, so he did tried to at least make sure the children and eldest of the people were cared for first. He'd give those closest to his age a few Ryo, telling them they can get a hot bowl of Ramen or just enjoy themselves for the day to take their minds off of the situation they found themselves in. It only took him about 30 minutes to pass out rations for the 1st shelter, but he stayed a while and offered to talk to the children there about enrolling in the academy and some of the responsibilities of being a Ninja. Anything to take their minds off of the unfortunate reality the inhabitants of the shelter were in, Rayul spent no time acting upon it to uplift their morale, giving them promising hope that better days are to come.
The second shelter wasn't as packed. There were more elderly in this one, however, and it was more organized as well. The building had aside for people and also catered to strays closer towards the back of the shelter. He repeated the actions as before, handing out food and blankets to all that he could until his supply was completely drained. Realizing that the shinobi had nothing left to offer them, some of the people who did not receive aid grew upset. They questioned why they even sent him, to begin with, if they couldn't provide for everyone, and he answered their angry questions as best he could. "I'm sure the Raikage knows about the situation at hand.", he says. "If he could put everyone here in a home, and provide for you without having to tax you on anything I'm sure he would do so. I'm not the only ninja out today there are a ton of us trying to help you guys out. I'm sorry I'm not able to provide for all of you but I've done all that I could with what I have." While talking to the group of now lesser-furious shelter-dwellers, he notices a small girl shivering in the corner. He didn't see her when he first entered, or he would've given her two blankets! He walks over to her, while removing the black jacket from around him, and reaches where she is huddled at. As he kneels behind her, she is startled as she looks the strange man in his eyes. He gently smiles at her as he wraps his jacket around her. "Here. I wish I had more blankets for all of you, but this is all I have left. It's my favorite jacket, but I have a few more at home. This should keep you warm." The girl slips the jacket on, of course way too big for the small child, but it did make her feel much better as her body warmed up. Her face lit up at the kind actions this man just performed, and she wraps her arms around his neck and hugs him. "Thanks, mister!" she says as she gets up and runs towards a group of children nearby. That made Rayul's day and the group earlier who were recently mad at him seen his kind actions and apologized for their unpleasant behavior. "Everyone gets angry," he chats, "and we all have emotions that we don't know how to fully control. That's just up being human. We cannot look down upon each other for things in which we cannot control. If we do, we do not progress as humanity, and the moment we ceased to progress, we no longer evolve." The words rang loudly within the group gathered around him, as they applaud Rayul for boosting their morale with such a wonderful yet short speech. Thanking the crowd, he talks to the Administrator of the shelter one last time before getting ready to end today's journey, receiving the Ryo he was promised and being thanked another 20 times for his obedience and naturally helpful demeanor. She reaches inside her purse and gives Ryo some saltwater taffy, and he instantly unwraps the sugary object and plops it into his mouth. Satisfied with both how the day with and his extra sweet reward of yummy-ness, Rayul bids his farewell to the last shelter and heads out towards the southern region of the Village.
While walking home, Rayul pulls out the Jutsu Encyclopedia and begins reading it on his way. He touches upon learning how to recognize certain jutsus, and it even helps him better understand the ones in which he knows. Always finding a way to better himself in and out of combat, Rayul finally reaches his house while nearly on the last few pages of the encyclopedia. He whiffs the air and instantly recognizes the familiar smell. Piping hot homemade Ramen awaits the young shinobi as he enters his residence, and it's the perfect meal for a long day of helping others in need.
