Looking for a Genjutsu teacher (Open)
Fri Dec 20, 2019 12:51 pm
Kamari Uchiha’s skill in Genjutsu had deteriorated over time. His extreme solitary training provided him with plenty of opportunity to train his Ninjutsu and Taijutsu, but ironically left his favorite of the three Ninja Arts severely lacking. He had loved pranking his teachers back in the Academy, but ever since he lost his parents, he had been out of practice nearly as much as he was depressed. His mind had repressed the traumatic memories and the Mangekyo Sharingan that came with them, so he had to do this the hard way. As he was walking down the street after finishing another brutal training session, his black trench coat and his knee-length mane of spiky black hair billowing in the wind, he began to realize just how out of practice he had become. His main area of combat prowess had basically vanished. Kamari began wandering around Hokage Rock, looking for someone, anyone, that could help teach him the art of illusion, and maybe, just maybe help unlock the dormant power within his dark past. He leaned up against the fence blocking the Rock from being climbed on and absentmindedly began spinning one of the many kunai from his bandolier around his finger.

Yoi made his way over to the training grounds, the cold Konoha weather setting in. The Yuki was strangely more comfortable in this weather, as opposed to most others. Being from the clan he was and being naturally cold, he didn’t mind the weather at all. Actually, the Yuki felt very fortunate compared to others. In the summer, and other hotter months, his body temperature kept himself cool. In the winter months, his naturally cold body temperature made him not care about the cold weather. The Yuki, seeing his other opponents and how he might be able to get the rank of Chunnin, was trying to go around and meet the Genin of the village. Yoi had stuck to his close group of friends, but never really branched out. The Yuki spied someone at the base of the Hokage rock, and noting the kunai he had in his hand, the Yuki assumed it was a shinobi. He wasn’t able to tell the rank, but by the strength of the chakra signature, he could only assume it was a Genin. The Yuki, out of habit, had activated his Quiet Footsteps jutsu. By now, he used it almost all the time. Silencing his footsteps was really helpful, and kinda cool. As another habit, the Yuki gave himself a new chakra signature using his Ring of Chakra Mastery. Most of this wouldn’t be noticed by an inexperienced shinobi, and that’s what Yoi was trying to pick up. If the person he was approaching was experienced or not. The Yuki, at this point, was about 25 meters away. He was jogging through the training grounds, at his maximum speed. The Yuki reached a fence, jumped far above it, and landed on the other side. The Yuki stuck his hand out, to the boy in front of him and said, “Hey, I’m Yoi. What’s your name?”

Kamari was waiting, absentmindedly spinning his kunai when he saw a figure leap high in the air above him. Immediately, he readied the knife in his hand and prepared for battle, but upon seeing the look in the figure’s eyes, he knew he was a friend. The figure landed in front of him on the other side of the fence. He was a boy wearing a black jacket with spiky white hair. Kamari could tell he was still a Genin due to his lack of a tactical vest, but could definitely see this guy was far more powerful than him.
“Well, looks like I’m in luck,” Kamari muttered to himself.
The boy extended a hand.
“Hey, I’m Yoi, what’s your name?”
Kamari reaches out and shook his hand.
“Kamari Uchiha, nice to meet you,” Kamari said.
“I was just looking for someone to train with. I was known in the Academy for my Genjutsu but I’ve been completely out of practice. I haven’t used it in six years. You mind helping me brush up?”
Soon, Kamari would be back up to his old pranks.
“Don’t worry, I won’t prank you with it. You could probably see right through it,” he chuckled.

Yoi, looking at the boy in front of him, and noticing the speed in which he had readied the kunai for combat, which any sensible shinobi would do at their maximum, this boy was well, slow. But Yoi sensed a chakra signature with a strength similar to his. This boy must have trained himself to have potent chakra but ignored his speed. Yoi didn't want to comment on the boy's training, but in a scenario like the Chunnin Exams... well, he wouldn't do too well. “Kamari Uchiha, nice to meet you."
"Well, it's nice to meet you Kamari." The Yuki noted that the boy was an Uchiha. It didn't really matter, but it was helpful to have this information in the case that something like the Chunnin Exams occurred and they were on opposite sides of the arena.
"I was just looking for someone to train with. I was known in the Academy for my Genjutsu but I’ve been completely out of practice. I haven’t used it in six years. You mind helping me brush up?”
"Genjutsu. Well, um, I'm not too good at that. And when I say "not too good," I mean I know none. But I can teach you how to release genjutsu and other basic ninjutsu techniques that a genjutsu specialist could still learn." The Yuki really didn't want to disappoint the boy in front of him, because the Yuki wanted to leave a good impression. Well, no matter. Yoi was doing his best.
“Don’t worry, I won’t prank you with it. You could probably see right through it.”
The Yuki let out a slight chuckle. "I don't know if I could see right through them. Never actually been under a genjutsu myself." The Yuki seemed a little, disappointed. The shinobi world was extremely dangerous. The Yuki knew this first hand. If one was paying attention, they would notice his eyes look towards his right arm. The foreign black eyes that now let him see winced as he remembered that day out in Tea Country. But if this boy's first concern of Genjutsu was a prank... The Yuki hoped he was more prepared than Yoi was with that attitude. But alas, Kamari was a separate person and Yoi couldn't control him. But, a genjutsu specialist was interesting. Yoi had never actually met one.

Kamari noticed the disappointed look on Yoi’s face. He realized he must have rubbed off the wrong way. Especially the part where he brought up pranks. While it was true that he had used Genjutsu to mess with people, those days were long gone. Now, Kamari had a real reason to use it.
“It’s not about pranks,” he told Yoi, tossing his kunai in the air and catching it before sticking it back in his bandolier.
“Knowledge is 75% of the battle. Genjutsu is about taking that away from your enemy.”
Kamari tried to put on a more serious vibe. His outgoing attitude certainly didn’t help.
“As soon as you have your opponent under a Genjutsu, the battle is already won. My mom knew how to do some pretty crazy stuff with it. She could do S-rank Genjutsu without even trying. She could even do...”
Kamari shuddered at the thought of what he was about to say next. His voice faltered a bit.
“...Tsukuyomi.”
He remembered seeing it firsthand when his parents had fought. It was extreme. Still, as soon as his father’s thumb had pierced his heart and the red mist began flowing, he immediately knew who would die. Both of them. He had been scarred for life that day. He remembered the first person he saw collapsing from pain among making eye contact with him and noticed the blood running from his eyes. His mind had repressed the traumatic memories though. He had never been able to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan since then.
“Anyway Yoi, I need to get some good Ninjutsu to complement and that’s where I think you come in. Ramen afterwards if you want.”

The boy in front of him must have noticed the disappointment that Yoi let show, so the Yuki quickly regained his composure, and let his face become a blank slate again. “It’s not about pranks.”
The Yuki said, "You're right. It isn't. The shinobi world is a dangerous place and sometimes pranks can't be performed. That's not saying I don't like them though." The Yuki's mind drifted as he thought about his mission into Tea Country and the... aftermath of what happened with Calin. But the Yuki found himself having to remind himself to focus, once again, on the conversation at hand. The Yuki sometimes did play pranks on people. The Yuki realized that Genjutsu was extremely good for pranks, but the Yuki knew, so was Ice Release.
“Knowledge is 75% of the battle. Genjutsu is about taking that away from your enemy.” The Yuki admired this boy's knowledge. Maybe the Yuki had taken the wrong impression on this boy.
"You can say that one again. That's why chakra sensory and other sensory techniques are extremely powerful and useful. And also why blocking them and staying stealthy is just as important." The Yuki had experience with techniques like this. He could sense chakra with his basic chakra sensory knowledge, he could silence his footsteps, scramble his chakra signature, and even defend himself from things like chakra based lie detecting and mind reading.
"As soon as you have your opponent under a Genjutsu, the battle is already won. My mom knew how to do some pretty crazy stuff with it. She could do S-rank Genjutsu without even trying. She could even do..." The boy seemed to hesitate before finishing his statement with "Tsukuyomi." The Yuki didn't know of this genjutsu that was supposed to be super powerful.
"If you don't mind me asking, what's Tsukuyomi?" The Yuki had never fought a genjutsu user, but if what the boy said was true he didn't want to fight one. Especially this boy's mom.
“Anyway Yoi, I need to get some good Ninjutsu to complement and that’s where I think you come in. Ramen afterwards if you want.” The Yuki was happy to hear that this boy was interested in learning some basic Ninjutsu.
"Well, I've got a few I could teach you. And yeah, ramen sounds good." The Yuki would never turn down an opportunity for ramen.

“If you don’t mind me asking, what’s Tsukuyomi?,” Yoi asked.
Kamari did not want this boy to be scarred for life, so he decided not to provide any specific examples, but he tried to explain in great detail anyway.
“Well, have you heard of Ephemeral? It’s a Genjutsu that allows you to temporarily alter the sensory perception of any one person for a limited time. I used to know how to do it pretty well, but keep in mind for all that it can do it’s only a B-rank.”
Kamari steeled himself for what he was about to say. He had seen Tsukuyomi used in ways that were not pretty.
“Tsukuyomi basically takes that to the next level. By making eye contact with someone, you can put them into a dream world and subject them to whatever scenario you want to for as long as you want with only a split second passing in the real world.”
He didn’t want to explain how it was obtained. If this boy knew what the Mangekyo Sharingan was, he would get suspicious of his mom. Still, Kamari could tell this boy at least seemed to be nice, so he decided to disclose something important.
“I’m sure my mom would have been happy to explain it to you, if she was still alive.”
Kamari paused at the last part and rested his arms on the fence.
“It’s not something I like to share. Maybe when we get to know each other better.”
Kamari took off running to the nearest training ground, knowing that Yoi made him look like a turtle by comparison. He really needed to work on his speed.
“Come on, what are you waiting for then!”

I used to know how to do it pretty well, but keep in mind for all that it can do it’s only a B-rank." The Yuki was a little confused by what the boy said. Didn't all genjutsu affect someone's sensual perception. And what did he mean when he said used to know?
"I haven't heard of it, but sounds interesting. And what do you mean used to know?"
"Tsukuyomi basically takes that to the next level. By making eye contact with someone, you can put them into a dream world and subject them to whatever scenario you want to for as long as you want with only a split second passing in the real world." The Yuki immediately thought of all the uses for this. The first that came to mind was torture. Torture, was usually done slowly. It could take a long while. Especially when methods such as starvation and dehydration were used. But with what Tsukiyomi could do, they could gather information in the most effective methods, which usually took the longest, in very little time. Eye contact though. It seemed like such a limited Genjutsu trigger. Yoi, in combat, avoided eye contact at all times. The Yuki would ask why eye contact was the trigger but then put together the facts about Uchiha and Sharingan.
"Kinda interesting. Eye contact seems like a limited trigger, but, people might find a way to work around that."
"I’m sure my mom would have been happy to explain it to you if she was still alive." The Yuki stayed silent here. His mother had been dead almost his whole life, so he knew how touchy the subject could get.
"It’s not something I like to share. Maybe when we get to know each other better."
"Yeah. We can save it." The Uchiha was intelligent. It wasn't good to share feelings the first time you met someone. You could get the wrong impression. Look how Yoi had gotten the wrong impression of Kamari.
"Come on, what are you waiting for then!" The boy took off running. Yoi's footsteps were still silenced [OOC note: I'm not bothering to keep track of AP] Yoi ran until he caught up with the boy, then he slowed down to match the boy's speed. As they were running, the Yuki took this as a good time to start.
"So. You said you were looking for some basic ninjutsu. Well, we can start with a simple one. It's called the Body Flicker technique. You start by channeling chakra into the entirety of your body, and forming the Ram seal. This allows you to move much faster for a short period of time. However, while Body Flickering, you cannot change your direction, nor can you end it early. So if your Body Flickering straight at an opponent, they can just throw a kunai, and now your hit by a kunai, potentially injured, or worse dead. Always Body Flicker at an angle. I can demonstrate." The Yuki, who had been running at the pace of the other boy (6 speed), formed the Ram handseal at his maximum speed (54 speed) and Body Flickered (speed 113) at an angle. He would be 50 meters forward and 7 meters to the left of his current position. This would put Yoi right outside the training grounds.
The Yuki yelled, "Now you try it!"

Ah, the Body Flicker. Kamari had seen the technique used many times by his father, the Taijutsu specialist he was. He would always use the technique to get close to his opponents before he beat them up. Kamari has never actually paid much attention to the technique, as he always thought it was a gimmick. Now, seeing how slow he was compared to a more experienced ninja, and realizing his high chakra reserves would give him an advantage, he decided to give it a try. Kamari formed the Ram seal and attempted to Body Flicker on his own. He managed to pull it off (56 speed) and shot forward in a blur. He realized that he had surpassed Yoi’s normal speed, but just barely. He really needed to run more. Still, this Body Flicker technique was pretty useful.
It took Kamari a few seconds to reach Yoi, obviously longer than Yoi took to reach his location, but when he got there, he was glad to have pulled it off.
“I just realized I kinda confused you talking about Ephemeral,” Kamari told Yoi.
“It kinda sounded like I described Genjutsu as a whole instead. Basically speaking, most Genjutsu techniques either require a trigger substance or can only produce specific illusions. Ephemeral doesn’t have any of those restrictions, so you can think of it as overlaying Tsukuyomi over the real world without the time distortion. If anything I say confuses you it’s okay to say so. Genjutsu isn’t really a popular field of study.”
OOC Note: trained Ephemeral as a flashback. Hasn’t been reviewed yet.

The Yuki noticed how quickly the boy learned the technique. This boy was quick. Mentally, not physically. Yoi internally chuckled. "I just realized I kinda confused you talking about Ephemeral." Boy was that true. The Yuki could tell that this boy was either, 1 not used to describe Genjutsu or 2, new to it. The Yuki assumed it was the first option, recalling the boy's shudder when he spoke of Tsukiyomi. Combining the fact that Tsukiyomi was supposedly an S-rank Genjutsu and from how the boy described, extremely powerful, the Yuki assumed he might have been under the effects of this Genjutsu. Each shinobi felt pain in their lives, each differently. For Yoi, it was his own sword used against him with the blade and Calin's fire almost killing him, had it not been for Nekrun and that man in the cart. The Yuki continued listening as the boy said, "It kinda sounded like I described Genjutsu as a whole instead. Genjutsu isn’t really a popular field of study." The Yuki had been able to do enough past research to figure out Genjutsu enough that he would be able to fight against it, but that was all. From how the boy described it, the Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique sounded more powerful. Yoi had hypothesized that Vergil had used this False Surroundings Technique in his fight against Nekrun in the Chunnin Exams, due to the fact that Nekrun didn't seem to treat the exploding tag like it was an exploding tag, and due to Vergil forming only the Ram handseal, which the only other jutsu that used this that Yoi could remember was Body Flicker, which Vergil clearly didn't use.
"You can say that again. As I said earlier, I haven't fought a single Genjutsu using opponent. But question for you. Why not use something like the False Surroundings Technique. It seems to be much more versatile and could have some pretty neat uses. If my theory is correct, in a recent Chunnin Exams fight, one opponent made the other believe an explosive tag was a smoke bomb using this technique. Also, I have a technique that I think you would be great at. It's called Genjutsu Release. You usually have to perform the Tiger handseal to activate it, by I've trained it to the point where I don't have to. If you could use a Genjutsu on me, I could show you how it works. I'll use the handseal when demonstrating though." The Yuki had wanted to practice Genjutsu Release for real. He had only trained it, and never had actually had to use it. This could be an exciting opportunity.
