Daytime Lantern (Private, Semi-Flashback)
Sat Aug 08, 2020 11:32 pm
The world materialized in a swift daze akin to stupefied slap to the face, the morning sun flowing through the white blinds onto the fair skin of the half-blooded Uchiha's skin, forcing his eyes to instinctivity wake up from the sudden light. His body lethargic and drained from a late-night workout session via Kenjutsu, his mind was wide awake due to the visceral dreams that he experienced during his slumber. A brustle of a brow and a twitch of a nose was all it took to fully awaken his body as back in the times when he trained in Phantasm, one must be prepared for an attack, even in sleep. One second of hesitation meant defeat and subsequently, death. A forced follower of said doctrine, waking up quickly and sleeping for a short amount of time became the norm for Kamiya Teitoku, even after his eventual escape from that hellish group. However, the bed that he used for dozing off was quality-made, given to him after his swift graduation from an Academy Student to Genin, only lasting a week. It had been so long since he had quality sleep since he had been adjusted to sleeping for about 4-6 hours, even less when he was on missions. It reminded Kamiya of back when he was in Konoha...when his father was still alive. Even back in Konoha, it still held some sour memories for the young Teitoku. Nevertheless, the apartment and bills were being taken care of due to his handsome salary from being a Genin. For some reason, he was paid more for being a Genin in Kumogakure than being a Genin in Konohagakure and way more than performing Missing Ninja contract missions for a living. It made sense, though. He was considered a prodigy by his teachers and mentors in Kumogakure due to them not showing much bias against Kamiya than in Konohagakure. In fact, it was the norm in Konoha to treat the Teitoku Clan as subhuman compared to other clans. It was appalling and would continue to be one of the reasons Kamiya had a strong distaste for Konoha. He had been looked down upon due to the nature of his existence for so many times in his life that it became normal for him to be discriminated against. But, now was not the time to reminiscence on bothersome memories. Today was part of a new chapter for Kamiya Teitoku: a rewrite so-to-speak. The boy urged for power to be able to control his fate and destiny to pursue a new day and achieve his goals; the fact that he was able to think in this way meant something...right?
Kumogakure was a village that believes "Might makes right" which Kamiya could somewhat align with for the meanwhile. All that he desired right now was to get more powerful. Though he was planning on training at midnight, it seemed like he unintentionally dozed off whilst he was practicing some Kenjutsu in his apartment. Maybe instead of getting stronger today, he should rest his body, mind, and muscles. Maybe a stroll could help! Walking towards the bathroom while getting used to the lighting of the apartment, he would wash his bands before cleaning up his face. Coldwater cascading down the smooth and handsome visage of the half-blooded Uchiha, wetting his hair as well as wiping down the dried sweat from his training session. Once he was done, Kamiya would grab a towel and wipe the water off his face and hair, changing from his black pajamas to his casual clothing which consisted of a black jacket with gold and red lining along with the Uchiha clan symbol on the back, black pants, a buttoned-up white shirt, and black combat boots. Flexing his muscles, he would open the door of his apartment before getting a waft of clean fresh air.
Without a second thought, he would meet the daylight of freedom once more...'

The dawn of freedom would shine against the fair skin of Kamiya, highlighting light-tan color of it even more. However, some of the dawn's assault would be deflected by the large pitch-black trees that surrounded the half-blooded Uchiha's apartment complex. He assumed that it was a natural thing in Kumogakure to have very large trees that led to forests on the outskirts. It was akin to Konoha's forest, but instead of its luscious green color, the trees would be pitch black, resembling that of fallen soot. The trees seemed to be indigenous to the land of the Lightning Country as that could be the only explanation as to why there were so many of them without any human interference. "Guess this world isn't as small as I thought," The young Teitoku pondered for a moment, observing the wildlife from the porch of his apartment. He was simply amazed, astonished at Kumogakure's nature, being so similar yet so different to Konoha's - though it made sense. Both were hidden villages that housed shinobi yet were both in different countries of the Ninja World. Kamiya would ponder about what type of divine interference was needed to create an effect such as that, despite being a proud denounced of dubious constructs such as "Fate" and "Destiny." He believed both to be extremely stupid concepts. A non-prodigy like him, who was "fated" to become weak rose through the shinobi ranks back in his home village, and sure enough, he was aiming to do the same thing here. However, it would be foolish of Kamiya to not realize that the world couldn't be explained with just logic and rationality, as some things were beyond the comprehension of humankind. The jet-black haired teen wondered if someday, he could gain the power able to understand those concepts, to reach that echelon of higher existence. To most, it would seem like an unreachable dream, but if humankind taught the world one thing, is that nothing was unachievable for humans.
Taking the time to look at the sky once more, composing of the usual gloomy overcast that plagued the village, showing glimpses of light that reflected against the pitch-black trees, Kamiya would take a deep breath, savoring the calm zephyr of wind around him. This was one of the few circumstances -in recent times- that the teen was able to relax. Despite his previous vow to not look back on his past, he couldn't help but do so. How he came to be, the actions he made to get himself to this state, how he went from hell and back that no normal human could return from. The refreshing air continued to circulate the area, brushing against his clothes like a ragdoll. Closing his eyes and sitting down from his porch, he would drift into semiconsciousness, reflecting on his past...

Re: Daytime Lantern (Private, Semi-Flashback)

The air was damp from the sweat of hardships, amplified from the humid heat from a summer morning. Throughout most of Konoha, this would not be much of an issue, but in a dojo, specifically, a dojo that was currently being used by two males -father and son- then the scent would most certainly have its presence. The dawn would arrive, reflecting against the trees that would then reflect onto the dojo blinds like a domino effect, creating a "komorebi", sunlight shining through the trees. The trance-like tempo of two wooden blades crossing each other with great intensity would resonate through the bamboo-made dojo, echoing greatly throughout it. The occasional thud of feet slamming to the ground as the blades would cross each other would create a tempo-like beat as if the two males battling in the dojo were in an actual duel. It made sense. Sparring matches were meant to be like fights, albeit with safety caps as to not accidentally kill someone. However, more seasoned fighters would come to realize that fighting was like art, few could master it and even fewer could become a paragon in it. The sounds of the wooden blades crossing each other would soon halt as the son would relent first, stepping back a few feet away as to gather distance away from his father.
"Crap, I can never get past your defenses, father!" The son would speak first: Kamiya Teitoku, the eight-year-old son of Asahi Teitoku, his father who was standing right in front of him. They had been sparring for a few minutes now, but no matter how many offensive techniques Kamiya performed to phase through his father's impenetrable defense; it would be no use. The half-blooded Uchiha counted, he had taken over 18 steps in the spar yet Asahi had taken zero, merely reflecting Kamiya's attacks back at him. Needless to say, the young Teitoku was utterly dumbfounded. Though, it was obvious. The boy was a mere Academy Student and his father was a seasoned Jounin, a master in both Space-Time Ninjutsu and Bukijutsu. It was as if a newborn puppy were to try to bark as loud as an adult Great Dane, it was impossible to both conceive and perform. The answer was even more simple in Kamiya's case: there was no way to win. All hope was lost the moment he grabbed his blade to face his father. Asahi, looking at his son with a magnificent grin on his face chuckled for a moment before lowering his sword stance, "Don't underestimate your old man that much Kamiya...Though I have to say, you have been improving a great amount over the past few years in your Bukijutsu skills. In fact, you're probably way stronger than me when I was eight." Asahi explained, encouraging Kamiya a fair bit yet letting the boy know that he had a lot of work to do.
Though Kamiya was a person who wanted to surpass his limits in the shortest amount of time possible, and that mindset required...hefty costs. Suddenly, he would toss his wooden blade to the left, shocking Asahi for a moment. Monkey → Dragon → Rat → Bird → Ox → Snake was the handseals formed from Kamiya's petite hands at high speeds to facilitate a jutsu activation. He saw this technique in a textbook he read over at the Academy, practicing day and night to understands the concepts of said jutsu. It was far beyond his rank level and would have killed any other Academy Student that tried to perform it. However, this was not any normal Academy Student, it was Kamiya Teitoku: a hardworking genius who was deadset on achieving what he wanted to achieve. Subsequently, a ball of electricity spurted on Kamiya's left hand, showing his lefthanded dominant nature. The electricity would circulate around his hand like an omnidirectional sword ready to be brandished at an unfortunate shinobi who would come in contact with it. A small grin would be etched onto Kamiya's expression, showing his gleefulness at being able to use this technique despite consuming ungodly amounts of chakra. It was an A-rank assassination technique and its name was:
"Chidori: One Thousand Birds!" The boy cried out, rushing towards his father at high speeds like a bullet train, brandishing the piercing ball of electricity that was in front of him towards Asahi's sword. If he couldn't break through his defenses, he would simply have to pierce through it.
"I'm impressed, Kamiya..."

The air shook and squirmed, rupturing from the great force of the incomplete Lightning Release Ninjutsu. The bottom part of the dojo, full of bamboo wood would smash split in half upon being dragged by the rushing trajectory of the half-blooded Uchiha's jutsu, creating a significant trail of broken wood as the Chidori trailed towards the man. The sheer magnitude of utilizing a jutsu that was meant purely for high-speed assassinations rendered Kamiya in a state of the tunnel vision without sufficient training, condemning the boy to rush forward with his wielded jutsu, as the only way that the young Teitoku could see was straight ahead. Yet in an instant, everything turned black. Kamiya blinked, feeling the concentrated chakra on his left hand diminishing before eventually dissipating in a few seconds, showing the little mastery the boy truly had in the technique. His wrist, completely outstretched as well as his whole arm due to the nature of Chidori, was held hostage by the strong and firm hand of his father. Asahi gripped Kamiya's wrist with enough force to ensure his son would not let go, grasping it on the side with his right hand. Kamiya couldn't see it, but in the elapsed time that he blinked, his father already moved to the side to block the thrusting attack AND still had enough time to grip his hand...Was this the true power of a Jounin, someone who could easily defeat another within a blink of an eye, literally? Asahi didn't even need to utilize one jutsu nor the weapon he still wielded, simply raw physical speed to dodge Kamiya's jutsu at point-blank range. Falteringly, the half-blooded Uchiha looked up, his eyes and pupils dilating instantly once he viewed the utter carnage he unleashed upon the Teitoku Dojo. One side that was right in front of him was shattered open due to what he assumed to be the force of his Chidori, revealing the outside section of the Teitoku Estate. Sections of split bamboo wood proliferated the damaged area whether it was burnt, chipped, or even had sparks of electricity still releasing out of it. "Dear lord..." Kamiya thought fearingly once he peered at the sight, realizing the earful he would get from Asahi due to unleashing such a damaging jutsu on a fragile area. Suddenly, he felt the same hand that gripped him brush the upper part of his jet-black yet smooth hair as if it was about to clutch his head in one fell swoop. Flinching instantly from the sudden stimuli, he waited for the pain that was about to ensue...Yet, it never came. Instead, it was a loving pat on the head, accompanied by a proud and ecstatic expression from his father.
"...You're truly amazing, kiddo. I've never thought in my countless years of experience that someone could learn a technique like Chidori at such a young age, much less being an Academy Student. Well, it only goes to show that you're my son!" Asahi said, giving a hearty laugh and a pat on the back at the young boy, as Kamiya would only chuckle sheepishly, "Ah...It was nothing father. I still need to iron out the technique though." The half-blooded Uchiha smiled humbly. However, Asahi's expression would grow far more serious and solemn after his initial burst of pride, "...That being said. Kamiya, you learned an extremely dangerous technique. As you should know, Chidori is an A-rank assassination technique, made especially for killing others during missions or battle. Look at the carnage you performed by only using an incomplete version of the technique. Hell, if I was a second late, I probably would have gotten hurt from the thrust. Additionally, you don't have perfect control over the technique. It seems that running at high speeds made you have a tunnel-vision like effect that did not allow you to utilize your peripheral vision. What if you used it against someone that wasn't at my caliber? You probably wouldn't have controlled your movements and likely would have severely injured them." The father paused, looking at his son with clear seriousness. Kamiya would simply lower his head, mentally beating himself up over using an incomplete version of a technique on his old man; it was very rare to see Asahi get serious over certain things, but if he did, it was usually for dire situations. "Until you graduate from the Academy and fully master the basics of chakra control, never use that technique again unless you're in a life-or-death situation." Asahi commanded with great vigor, making Kamiya truly notice how dangerous the jutsu was. "...Understood, father." The young Teitoku dejectedly answered, bowing respectfully towards Asahi.
The older man would walk past the boy, toward the shattered side of the dojo caused by the incomplete Chidori. A small smirk, unnoticeable by Kamiya would form on the man's face. The jet-black haired boy would turn towards the back of his father as the man chuckled for a moment. "Well, don't be all sad for nothing! Tell you what, help me rebuild the dojo and I'll make your weekly lessons more geared towards mastering chakra control. Also, I'll treat you out for Okonomiyaki tonight." Asahi said, immediately revitalizing Kamiya's attitude as the boy's royal blue eyes shined with deep excitement.
"Okay!"

Re: Daytime Lantern (Private, Semi-Flashback)

8:30 AM. It had been a year after the young fledging had dabbled firsthand into Nature and Shape Transformation, being the high-speed Chidori technique. Being a year older, he learned a lot more techniques that were above his age range for an Academy Student, solidifying his hardworking and model student figure in the Konohagakure Academy. The light flickered back and through Kamiya's eyes, attempting to perceive and understand the blurry agglomeration that came to focus before him like a deformed pendulum. The daybreak shone through the horizon, cutting through the cumulus clouds that covered the luminous sun in arrays, reflecting its brilliant light to Kamiya's once pitch-black room. The land of Konoha once dreary from an unknown event of the rainy weather overnight now reverted to its sunny cast, showing its true reason for being the militaristic capital of the "Land of Fire." The same light that gave the young Teitoku's eyes vision collided against the closed yet transparent blinds of his room, battling the former darkness in an easy squash fight. Kamiya, being the analytic and logician he was, scanned the room brimming in light with a groggy manner; alarm clocks would appear as duplicates of each other and clothes would seem upside-down as if it were some sort of demented acid trip...if Konoha even had drugs in the first place. Off-topic: Kamiya suspected that the village probably had some giant drug business in the Black Market most likely called "Hidden Leaf", but you know...it was just a hunch.
Suddenly, Kamiya rose from his medium-size bed when he realized what day it was...
"IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" He cried out in sheer happiness, his mature and aloof persona due to his years of ostracization immediately shifted into a childlike, age-appropriate attitude, an adorable smiling etched on his face. Finally! The day where he didn't have to worry about the darkness of the Ninja World and his society, creeping into his life as an insidious pain in the rear! It also was the day where he could spend as much time with the only family and friend he had: his father, celebrating in jubilation about Kamiya's reason for existence where so many denied the notion of at birth. This day was supposed to be a great one, so the young Teitoku acted like so. Rushing out of his room at great speeds, he sprinted towards Asahi's room like a galvanizing bull. Knocking on the door, he was surprised at his dad not responding to his knocks, especially on his birthday. Usually, his father was eager to celebrate his son that he would already be awake way before Kamiya was. Maybe today was an off day to Asahi, so Kamiya casually said, "Hey dad! You're not answering my knocks, so excuse my entrance. I am entering,"
He opened the door...a blunder he regretted to this day.

Red. Red blood. Gallons of red, dried blood streamed throughout the room that Kamiya opened, unintentionally leaving a trail and beckoning Kamiya to follow the said trail. The young Teitoku's heart immediately fell to his stomach, trying to understand what the in the world occurred to leave so much blood in his father's room, a respectable Jounin of Konoha that could beat most if not kill anyone who tried to fight him...so why was their blood in the room? It didn't make sense for Kamiya. It was like trying to rationalize and comprehend how vast the universe was, there was no making sense of it. Thoughts frantically raced through the half-blooded Uchiha's mind, as if trying -so desperately- to search for the pursuit of truth in the situation, yet there was none. There was no truth in the situation, only lies and hypotheticals if he wouldn't follow the trail. Unless... "NO! There's no way father would have taken his life so suddenly! He was just fine yesterday! Laughing, spending time with me, and preparing for future missions...this c-can't be true...I know! Maybe he just accidentally cut himself really hard and it just left a trail of blood. Yeah! T-that's probably it!" More thoughts flew through Kamiya's mind, in denial of the predicament he was in. Planted on the ground, the young Teitoku was paralyzed and in a dilemma about what he should do next, whether he should simply stay here, cowering in fear or face the unknown...
Seconds felt like minutes and a few minutes felt like hours. The young boy, now forgetting that it was even his birthday, had to make a decision. He clenched his fist as if he wanted to shadowbox his fears and move forward. The nails dug deep in the fist, piercing skin and drawing blood instantly; the boy's blood merged seamlessly with the unknown trail of blood that lied before him. Kamiya took a deep breath, using the last bit of determination he had to kick in his internal adrenaline. "Move." He said resolutely, commanding his body to move forward and face the unknown.
Step by step, he followed the trail of blood...

He walked, he walked, and he walked along the tracks of streaks of blood, making sure to follow every twist and turn as if the half-blooded Uchiha was searching for an elusive treasure chest. To what seemed like an endless trail that would lead to a void of nothingness, there was something that lied beyond the unknown as Kamiya's eagle eyes would instantly catch up on a shadow-like figure that sat on a chair in the middle of an office room. The room barely sustained any light, having an overcast of shadows throughout it due to the window blinds being closed despite being the early morning. Kamiya was quite perplexed, due to the reason that his father would never forget to raise the blinds since the man would always be seated in the office room, ready to do shinobi work...but today, was much different than other days. As the half-blooded Uchiha entered the shadowy room, he unintentionally stepped on a tripwire which set Asahi's plan in motion. The blinds immediately raised, revealing a shiny light of the unshakable truth, blowing away all shadows that encompassed the room, beating it in an easy squash fight. The light, obviously blinded Kamiya, making the boy's eyes instinctively shut in reflex...but when the boy saw after opening his eyes was something he would never forget, a cruel reminder of what it meant to live in a world where loss was inevitable and the weak succumb to that "loss."
Asahi, sitting on the chair he usually sat on periodically to performing his usual Jounin duties, full of "light" in him, sat, lifeless on that chair. His head, once raised upwards, tilted downwards, as if it wanted to leave the sturdiness of his neck quickly.
