Hitting the Books
Zeo had retreated once again to the few sanctuaries he felt he could relax in. When he wasn't at the water gardens or nature preserve, or his own apartment home that the village assigned to him-- he was at the library. The blue haired bookworm was quite the studious person as he would study and lear new things not openly given by other shinobi. The best training and guidance he had was from a Jonin who took a day off to help him with a bubble jutsu he was learning. It was well appreciated, but he had become more independent in his studying. He did wish Yasha was around more, but he was already off on another mission now. So it was up to him.
Ninjutsu or any form of art pertaining to it wasn't easy to do on your own, but far from impossible if you had the natural bend. Luckily, Zeo was one of those people. He had it naturally, whether consciously or subconscious from when he saw ninjutsu done by his parents. He had a talent for it, so he was able to pick up and learn jutsu with more fevor than others. Still, it didn't substitute the need or aid of a mentor to give one the right guidance one would miss.
Despite a beautiful, sunny day, he was in the library surrounded by a stack of scrolls and books. He was reading over multiple topics at once to try and find common traits. He had recently learned the bubble style jutsu to make his suiton arts far more dynamic. But now he had to learn other techniques that worked with it. It was a rigorous search to find it, along with other jutsu he wanted to master. Genjutsu, to learn how to use more dynamic forms of it. It seemed one's use of Genjutsu was limited to the library here. However, Zeo was very interested in the subject.
While Genjutsu was a concept of deception, it involved using the power of one's own mind to influence another. It offered strategic value and also means of outsmarting stronger enemies. He liked it and wanted to learn more about it beyond what someone of his skill was capable of. It took a great deal of concentration, focus and chakra to influence a person's psyche than just mere illusions.

Sadly to his disappointment, much of the genjutsu books were scarce at best. Despite the rumored number of Uchiha living in Hoshigakure, it was unusual that there were so few topics of Genjutsu around the library. It was unreasonable to learn about this stuff without better material. Anything he did find was minor jutsu and reviews of the basics. He continued to look over it, trying to find new stuff- like reading between the lines.
He sat his chin against his arms as he looked at the words and went over the basics again. Genjutsu was the use of chakra to influence the perceptions and minds of others. The art of it involved using chakra to deliver it via the five senses of a target to cast illustions on them. Using this, and the means of delivery, one could change the field of battle significantly in their favor. He could make the opponent hallucinate, or falsify experiences they had, to change outcomes in battle or lure them into a false sense of security. One could even use Genjutsu to suggest ideas or steal information from a target.
While Zeo didn't like the last part, the art of Genjutsu held plenty of possibilities. He liked how he could change a target's perception of the battle, but not just visually. It could influence touch, sound, hearing-- with the correct combination and crafting, a Genjutsu could convince an enemy of reality even if it wasn't so. As he knew, Genjutsu had limitations and means of detection, but such glaring flaws often required practice. For example, if he was in a Genjuts where the enemy surrounded him like clones-- minor details could give away things-- like the lack of wind that flowed through one's hair even when the wind blew. Or another good example, was a lack of shadows on the ground. Minor details like that could give away Genjutsu, or more obvious ones. Zeo had read about it, and learned to identify small details in a battle like that. He had a keen mind suited to use Genjutsu and to identify it as well.
The one thing he did know that one clan, the Uchiha due to their advance and legendary visual prowess, allowed them true mastery over Genjutsu. It was almost envious, but one thing Zeo was a firm believer in. Talent or Bloodline trait was only a mild advantage that hard work, study and perseverance couldn't hold a candle to. You could have the best Kekkei Genkai in the world, and it wouldn't matter if you fought a master shinobi. While the Uchiha were formidable in their Genjutsu, Zeo was confident he could obtain a level of mastery equal to them if he could learn more.
It was then he had a thought as he looked over the same material for three times in a row. He was so bored with it, he almost fell asleep... and then it came to him. If he wished to do better in a scarce research field, he had to invent his own. It was audacious, to say the least, but if he could succeed... it would only be limited to his own imagination.
Searching for a blank scroll, he began to write, determine to find basic means to start creating his own jutsu.
