Task: Aside from banks, warehouses are some of the most valuable places in a village, and usually filled with useful items that could be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands.
You have been tasked with guarding one of the village’s ninja warehouses overnight. Patrol the building, lookout for any suspicious activity, and let nobody into it under any circumstances. Since this warehouse is within the village walls it should still be an uneventful night but that doesn’t mean you can just loaf about. Desperate people can go to desperate measures if put into a corner. As an added reward you'll earn three shuriken to add to your wares.
You may create an adversary for this mission but their stats/abilities are a non-factor and should prove to be no more than a nuisance.
Night fell over the dome of Sunagakure. Stars glistened above and the light of the moon illuminated the many streets and back alleys of the village. All the street vendors had cleared out and everything was quiet. Asahi much preferred this to the days of Sunagakure. Even through the dome the light was often blinding to the Genin, and it could be hard to hear one's own thoughts amidst the chaos of the village during the bright hours. If ever there was a night person, Asahi was it. Should be a relaxing night, he thought to himself. The warehouse was snug safe and secure within the village walls, there was little chance of outside interference. Yet still, it was located among the outer ring of the village and what was considered the more "seedy" area of Sunagakure.
He started walking the paths towards the location of the warehouse. It was nice and temperate underneath the dome and he was thankful for it on this night. The desert was scorching by day but by nightfall he knew how quickly that heat could change to cold. Here in the village though, that was no longer a concern. He made it as far as the main streets would take him before he had to turn on the more narrow and dimly lit alleyways to get to his destination. The paths were in a poor state of repair. Many of them were falling apart or had seemingly turned into a garbage dump. Some sections were entirely devoid of lighting and Asahi couldn't help but think they would make a great place to set an ambush for the unsuspecting. As he moved through them he was on guard, listening and watching intently. Some homeless or down on their luck citizens leaned against the walls as he moved by. To those people he gave them a few ryo each and continued on his way.
Finally he reached the destination where his mission was to take place. It was an old warehouse, in a similar state of disrepair as the alleys he had walked through to get to it. It was a large building, consisting of several floors and long sections built onto it from expansion over the years. Asahi thought that this building might be amongst the oldest ones in the village still standing, even after the destruction and wars of years long past. Around the building was a perimeter of light posts spaced at intervals. The light did much to illuminate the surroundings and it helped the warehouse stick out from the darkened corner of Sunagakure. The light is probably their best measure against crime here, Asahi thought to himself. Anybody looking to break in or vandalize is like to stay away from a target so well lit. The Genin walked to the front doors of the building to start his task. When he arrived a guard opened the door and came out to greet him.
"Are you the guy?" the guard asked as he walked forward to greet him.
"I am," Asahi replied. He produced the official scroll from his weapon's pouch that contained his order's and a seal proving he was who he said he was.
"Great, I'm just finishing up here for the night. We'll need you to take over until sunrise."
"Very good, I'm ready to start whenever."
With that the guard lead Asahi inside the warehouse to the front lobby. The guard went about his business, finishing some work that was still left to do and filling out paperwork. While he did so he explained to the Genin all about what his job would entail during the night and some things he needed to be mindful of. It was mostly routine work, the guard told Asahi. There was a schedule of patrols to be followed and he would need to keep to it and check all the areas that needed to be checked. Things like doors being locked or windows shut needed to be confirmed as well. He handed the ninja a checklist on a clipboard for him to keep track of everything. There was a pencil strung to the board and the parchment clipped on contained little boxes that needed to be checked in, as well as a section for any additional notes to be made in case something happened.
"I think I understand," he told the guard.
"Good, good. I'll be back come sunrise to check the list and relieve you from duty. Good luck, shinobi."
The guard exited the lobby and the warehouse and then Asahi was left alone. He took a seat at the desk and looked up at the clock. He still had about fifteen minutes until the first check needed to be done. Time to kill, time to kill, he thought. What can I do to pass the time? He remembered then that he was working on a newer technique. Recently he had taken an interest in Fuinjutsu and the placing of seals. He had been reading all about it and practicing as much as he could. This is the perfect time to try one of the seals myself, he thought. The warehouse was perfectly quiet and nobody was around to bother him. Let's see if I can get this to work.
He stood up and walked to the center of the lobby. There he stood for a few moments, breathing in and out and trying to center himself before he began work on the jutsu. This particular jutsu he was going to use would involve the placing of a seal. By expending chakra of his own he could store it inside a mark that was placed upon his body. Of course such a thing was useless to do in the middle of a fight, but if done in preparation it would allow him to have a backup reserve of chakra to use if things got dicey. He knew with his abilities he wouldn't be able to store much, but any little bit helped. Asahi strived to be prepared for any situation and whatever he could do towards the end he sought it out. With his mind and body centered his hands rose up in front of him and began to make the hand signs necessary to perform the Chakra Storage Seal. Snake, Ram, Rat and Dragon his hands went, forming the signs in rapid succession. When they were finished making he started to concentrate his chakra and imagine the seal forming in his mind. His left palm pressed down upon his right wrist and he released the pent up energy. He could feel something happening as the energy flowed through the one hand onto his body. His wrist felt different suddenly, but then as quickly as the sensation came it went. When he removed his palm he could see that on his wrist was a small pale black squared shape or diamond shaped symbol, no bigger than a few centimeters. It worked! His fingers traced the outline of the design with glee. He was pleased with himself and felt a little better knowing that if he ever got into trouble he would have that seal to rely upon.
He looked back up at the clock and saw that it was getting time to make his first rounds. Asahi moved back to the desk, grabbed the clipboard and pencil and then started to get to work. He made his way out of the lobby and into the back of the warehouse building which contained all the valuable equipment. There were massive shelves from floor to ceiling that contained all sorts of boxes or crates and palettes. The warehouse was picked to the brim, and Asahi didn't think it was possible to get anything else in the place even if one tried. There was not a single spot open on any of the shelves. The first item on his checklist was to make sure that all the shelves and equipment was secure. He strolled through the aisles one by one. At each shelf he checked the structural integrity by giving it a little shake. When that was finished he'd look to see that all the crates or boxes were safe on the shelf and not in danger of falling off. Check, he marked down on the sheet. It took him the better part of two hours to get through all the shelves and crates, so vast was the warehouse.
Next he had to check all the windows and doors in the warehouse. He had a set of keys too just in case one of them happened to be unlocked or was not secured in the proper way. Asahi moved from door to door and gave each one a little tug. Then the windows came, and was particularly more troublesome because most were not reachable without effort. He had to climb in certain cases or stack up some boxes to reach the proper height to check them. All save one were closed and to that one he swiftly shut as the rest were and latched a lock on it. He turned the key and give it a tug also to make sure it was secure. When that was finished he marked that part on his list and looked down to see what was next. He was making good progress and still had about an hour or two before the sun would come up and his shift would be over. The next and last item on the agenda required him to ascend the steps at the back of the warehouse to the roof. Once that was done and checked that everything was okay he would be finished for the night and could simply put his feet up and wait out the clock.
With clipboard in hand he started climbing the spiral staircase that led to the only access point to the roof. He had to unlock a large padlock to get through the door. It opened out into the fresh air of the domed village of Sunagakure. Asahi took a deep breath in and then exhaled, glad to be out of the stagnant and dusty old warehouse for a moment. He looked down at the checklist to see exactly what he needed to do up here. There were a couple of ladders and some areas for ventilation that needed checking. He thought it sounded simple enough and he set out to do so. It didn't take him long to scour the whole area of the roof. Within about fifteen minutes he was finished. The ninja was just about to check the final box off on his list when out of the corner of his eye he noticed movement. From the shadows, about twenty meters away, there was a figure creeping across the roof.
"Hey! You there! Stop right now!" he called out to the stranger.
The shadow looked back and then began to run across the distance of the roof in response to his plea. So much for that, Asahi thought. He gave chase immediately to the intruder. He bolted across building in record speed. His recent months of training had been extremely productive and they were paying off. Within a few seconds the distance between the two was closed. The intruder was so close Asahi could reach out and touch him. He jumped at the stranger and tackled him down. They tumbled across the length of the warehouse. The stranger was in a heap, clearly wounded from the maneuver. Asahi drew a kunai across his neck. As quickly as it began it was over. The intruder surrendered and admitted to his guilt. He was going to rob the warehouse for the ninja tools inside and then sell them on the black market for a quick buck. Probably on those very streets I passed by to get here, Asahi thought. Well, it's a mission complete then. The roof was secured and the intruder was captured. He checked the final box off of the list. With the stranger in toe they descended down the steps and then waited in the lobby for the guard to take over the shift. The sun began to rise as they did so, signalling the end of the mission and the dawn of the new day.
- Jutsu/AP/Calculations:
- Chakra Storage Seal used by Asahi on himself. Places a Chakra Storage Seal on his right wrist in the shape of a small black square. Seal is placed at a Power of 40 which means the Seal contains 80 AP within it to replenish the user's health when broken. 50 Vigor and 30 Base Technique Power = 50 - 30 = 20. 20/2=10. 30+10=40 Power. AP cost to cast = 110.
Asahi AP: 891-110=781
