[well this was going to be a mission but then I noticed it was for fire country only lmao]
This was an odd mission. Madara had taken it because she had seen the word rabbit several times but now upon reading it she realized just how horrible the mission was. She was supposed to kill a bunch of fluffy bunnies! It was almost terrifying what she had to do to those rabbits and the mission details went into a bunch of detail on how to properly skin them and all that. Madara was shocked and didn’t want to do the mission anymore, but she was already out here away from Hoshigakure. “I really need to read the fine print next time I take something like this,” she muttered. More specifically, she was supposed to go to a farm who was having trouble with rabbits eating his crop so that’s how they justified killing a bunch of rabbits.
Madara went over to the farm where she was supposed to be completing a mission or whatever. However, she had almost no motivation to actually do the mission since she was mentally focused on learning some jutsu. She had to push that from her mind though because she knew better than to get too side tracked on mission time. She started right away by looking for rabbits but she didn’t use her sharingan. She didn’t want it to be too easy, and plus learning how to track them and stuff was going to be a useful skill. This in itself was a very strange concept and Madara believed it to be impossible after spending half an hour looking unsuccessfully for rabbit prints. However, she had this nifty booklet that said that it was indeed not only possible, but easy at that! Madara made sure to read the details of the technique such as the motion along with how she was supposed to clean off the prints to see exactly what animal made them.
After memorizing the important details, Madara headed over to a set of prints and performed the necessary steps before placing her hand on the footprint. However, as soon as she did so, a rabbit made a loud sound, turned to its side, and attempted to kick the uchiha. What’s this thing’s problem? Madara would think as the jumped out of the way. For some reason this rabbit just did not want to have its hide skined. Well, now that she took a closer look, the rabbit looked like it had lost a whole lot of energy and ran away with a lot of energy.
“That’s some bullshit. I didn’t even get any hair out of it.” Madara was very confused as to why the simple act of tracking rabbits was so hard. If only she had some way to sense chakra then she would have been able to figure out that she had not commanded the chakra to enter her body. Even so, she could take a hint and figured that she had merely pushed the chakra out of the rabbit’s body. Well, she wasn’t one to kill a rabbit just for the sake of training, but this was different. She needed to kill them and to kill them she had to catch them.
This time, Madara tried to grab hold of the rabbit by the neck and squeeze it against her own body. Strangely enough, this worked! Madara felt her body feel a little bit more energized at the expense of the little rabbit’s dwindling life force. It wasn’t like she was absorbing the chakra, but she felt a sick sort of pleasure from attacking such a defenseless animal. “Kickass! Now only if I could improve the efficiency of the kill. This one took forever to strangle.” Madara tried to catch another rabbit, but she had significantly more trouble catching the next one now that the other rabbits were hiding. She kept running around the area several times and tried to figure out the maximum chakra she could shoot out of her body and attack the rabbits with. Sadly, she could not reach 100% efficiency. She guessed this required some chakra input in itself which kind of sucked.
Well, Madara’s only goal now was to try shooting actual chakra out of her fists, sort of like a quasi hyuuga but not quite. She was just barely missing the rabbits that she did chase, so she just needed a little extra reach, or so she assumed. At the moment, she needed to physically touch her target. However, if she took extra time to direct her chakra outwards, she was able to grasp hold of any target’s chakra from a distance and will the chakra out of her own body. It was amusing that there was no way to stop this technique other than to move out of range! In any case, Madara would continue working on improving the technique’s efficiency since working at a distance had some major chakra loss associated with it.
Madara was just going around, walking around the farm that she was supposed to be helping out. She would not even be thinking about her mission, though she was working towards its goal all the same. She would simply be performing attacking rabbits at random and wondering how she could maximize her efficiency. She would often walk over to animals and rush at a distance and try gaining at least one rabbit at a time. Sadly, she just couldn’t get it to the point where she could consider herself a master at the art of rabbit hunting. She would need to stop and think of a way to truly improve herself since she wasn’t getting anywhere.
After wandering around for another hour making no progress, Madara bumped into a man. It only took a second for her to realize that this was the farmer that she was supposed to be helping. And something told the farmer that this was the girl he’d hired to deal with the rabbit problem. With a gruff shout that startled Madara, the man formed a fist and stuck his pitchfork into the ground. It wasn’t just the physical shock that surprised Madara, it was the fact that her chakra seemed to be leaving her at an ever increasing rate.
What the hell is going on? she would think as she fell to her knees. “Think about that while you go get the rest of the rabbits. You think I would be asking for your help if I could do it myself? You’ve hardly gotten any over the past few hours.” Clearly, this man was an expert at the advanced version of ninjutsu but for some reason he didn’t have the ability to kill rabbits? It didn’t make sense to Madara. “Feed the rabbits to hell and make sure you get some hides if you want any at the end of the day.” Madara jumped to her feet and nodded without saying a word. She would do anything to get out of that situation. She had learned a lot from their encounter, namely that there was definitely a better way to get the rabbits if she was being scolded.
Madara would approach the five rabbits that she had attacked so far. She had brought some rabbit food for them and placed it all in front of them. However, she wasn’t thinking much about rabbits at the moment. She was too busy thinking about the motion that the man had used. They were certainly different from the ones she herself used. Well, the first few were the same, but there were definitely more motion. Perhaps the technique used more chakra to start up? That had to be offset by the immense amount of chakra that Madara had almost physically felt.
The next step to luring out these darned rabbits was to bring them water. Madara would use her magnet release to command the metal buckets in the distance to make their way towards the water pump. Next, she would command the pump’s metal components to work and eventually pour water into the buckets. Once the buckets were full, Madara would command them to travel towards the rabbits who looked pretty thirsty. This kind of work was trivial for someone of her prowess, but that was a different story. It was time to find something else to do in the meantime.
Madara soon found the man as she was sitting right where she had left him. She seemed to be waiting, somewhat eager for some reason. “Little girl, you know intimidating a youngling like you felt great! I feel so energetic! Get over here.” Madara begrudgingly approached and watched again as the man instructed how to go about getting that extra efficiency with her chakra. Apparently if she put more chakra into shooting out her chakra, there was an increased amount of reach she could get. “That’s enough teaching for now,” he would say after shocking Madara with another display of power. “Now go pick some weeds from the gardens and kill the rabbits. I’ll teach you a bit more after that.”
Madara sighed and headed over to the gardens as she thought more and more about how what the farmer had told her to do with regards to improving the technique. She would need to use more chakra to make more chakra. That was the message she was getting from all this. Madara whistled to all four of the rabits that ran from her. She wanted to instruct them to pick the weeds in the gardens using their little teeth so she could go back to catching them but there was no sense in doing that because it made no sense. She made her way around begrudgingly picking some weeds for an hour even though it had nothing to do with catching rabbits. It was a side job that would hopefully gain her some favor with the farmer. Now back to business, Madara would start by going around and looking for rabbits. She had a few things she’d like to try…
Madara soon found a rabbit nibbling on a carrot. Jackpot. Madara roared as she performed a dash and expended a shit ton of chakra in order to reach the rabbit. The rabbit seemed to simply die on contact. Almost instantaneously, at that. However, the chakra she drained from it was very paltry seeing as though it was just a fucking rabbit. Feeling very winded from her stupid stunt, Madara spent the next few hours watching eagles simply fly around and look hungrily at the rabbits Madara had gathered so far. They probably thought she was an asshole; they wouldn’t be very far from the truth of the matter.
Madara fell asleep, actually, and found herself in a dream-like state where she would just go around draining chakra out of random animals. It wasn’t until she ended up waking up the next day that she realized where she was going wrong. She was spending so much time draining out the pitiful chakra from animals whereas she should be working on calibrating her skills with respect to other humans. And not just regular humans, but shinobi. Madara felt pretty shitty for taking so long to figure this out. The fact that the birds had shit all over her clothes was also a big let-down.
Rubbing the shit off of her clothes, the uchiha got up to see a note nailed to the ground at her feet. It said: Go to the soybean fields and turn up the soil. You may find some rabbits over there too. Well that sounded like some manual labor, all of which she was uninterested in doing. Right now, she would focus on forming chakra in her body and focusing on seeing about manipulating the chakra in other living being’s bodies to possibly give off more ether. This was certainly one method of training the technique seeing as though there weren’t many people to test on a farm.
Madara approached another rabbit and this time, instead of simply sucking the life out of the poor critter, the shinobi focused on probing the rabbit’s mental state. She found that she could easily give and take chakra from the cute little shit much easier if she didn’t saturate the chakra in her eyes. It probably would have helped if she had some way of viewing or sensing where the rabbits were, but she would make do with gauging how much force she was using. The rabbit didn’t even seem to notice anything was happening since Madara was being so subtle!
Madara kept experimenting with probing the rabbit’s mental state with chakra. She found that she could ever so slowly suck the critter’s chakra out and watch it visibly get exhausted and lifeless. Then she could turn around and put chakra in and watch it go about its business as though nothing had happened. There was certainly something pretty overpowered with this technique. Or perhaps it was just a stupid animal and didn’t have the intelligence to realize what was happening to it. To be honest, up until yesterday, Madara would not have even known how to react to chakra seeping out of her body.
In any case, it was time to practice on something more voluptuous with regards to chakra supply. It was still very early in the morning and she did not see a reason to even start on her daily task for helping out the farmer anyways; she had all day to do so. So she went, over to one of the rabbits she had drained the previous day. The rabbit seemed to know what to expect and walked away cautiously as she approached. Madara, however, was already probing the rabbit’s mental state and trying to create some sort of chakra trade equilibrium.
She was trying to meld their non-elemental chakra supplies together so that they could draw from one another if needed. Madara felt it was better to try this out with an animal since they didn’t have the capacity to use jutsu. Madara, on the other hand, performed some basic academy techniques using the rabbit’s chakra and found that she had gotten to a point where this was feasible. Apparently rabbits had enough chakra to be of use after all! Well, that was enough of that. Madara refilled the rabbit’s chakra at her own expense to avoid having to babysit it again.
Madara made her way to where the farmer was working and attempted to perform the jutsu on him. The farmer, however, was having none of that. The farmer performed the same jutsu and sucked chakra out of the uchiha much faster than the shinobi could drain of the farmer! Madara paid attention to how her body was feeling and noticed that the only difference between the two was that Madara simply had more chakra to give. Perhaps there was some sort of proportionality factor here since she didn’t expect the farmer to have much of a chakra supply at all.
The farmer seemed to realize that Madara had figured out what was going on and gruffly returned to her work, rather energized. Madara was feeling drained again and stumbled to a pile of hay so she could rest again. Geeze, that farmer just seems to keep me around just to take my energy. Well, Madara now had figured out how to use the technique and realized some key things about the jutsu. The only thing left to do now was to try putting all the pieces together and try to focus on each body part individually. There had to be a way to suck out a percentage of chakra from something over time.
Madara found herself sitting on a tree stump and focusing on the body of the next rabbit she captured. She figured she would try to work on every single piece of her genjutsu in its body to somehow try to maximize the amount of chakra she could drain. The problem was definitely not how much she was sucking, but how much she was letting bleed out of her fingers. In any case, Madara pumped chakra into the tissue of the rabbit’s body and tried to open its mental chasm wider. She wasn’t sure exactly where its goods were, but she could certainly feel when they were stimulated. She would then try to regulate chakra flow out of its body.
Out of nowhere, Madara felt a hand on her shoulder and felt her eyes completely dilate, opening wider than they had ever been. It was the farmer again, determined as ever to speed up her training so she could get to finishing up her duties around the farm. “Focus little one! I’ve done the work for you, now try to dilate your chakra by yourself!” At that, the farmer left which meant Madara was all alone again. At least now she knew how it should feel… Perhaps she could figure out how exactly the farmer was able to make her chakra flow so easily.
After a few more hours of meditating and pondering, Madara tried once again. She had chakra sent out of her body, which dilated her eyes as usual. However, when she probed the rabbit’s mind from the outside, she was able to further dilate them! Well, that was pretty simple. And so, Madara would try again, except this time she would try to stimulate and dilate every mental fabric in its whole body until she was at the epitome of fluid chakra flow. This is nice and all, but it kind of takes me a while to get into this state. There has to be some way to speed it up.
Madara went around and gathered up all the rabbits that she had killed over the past two days. She had about twenty in total, well she counted thirty but it seemed that the birds of prey got to at least ten of them which left her feeling pretty bad. She had successfully culled the rabbit population for now though. She knew that rabbits could breed like crazy so she didn’t think her employer would be rabbit free for very long. The last part of the mission was just to skin the rabbits so she would have some hide for herself and just deal with all the blood and guts.
Afterwards, she discovered that there was, in fact, a way to speed up the process of getting to the fully dilated state. The first step was to use motion, of course. The addition of motion allowed her to force her body into the absorbption state which she had already associated with dilating her chakra out. With motion in the mix, Madara could now instantly suck and push out chakra from any creature by using genjutsu. Sure, there was the initial chakra drain, but she could always absorb that back. By golly gosh, I think I’ve finally got it! Time to rub it in that farmer’s face!
Madara marched over to the farmer, performed the motion, and placed them on her chest. The farmer did the same, and the two just ended up standing there. They were absorbing each other’s chakra at essentially the same rate, which was precisely what Madara had wanted to accomplish. The farmer nodded gruffly and pushed the girl backwards and turned back to her work. “color me impressed.” Madara then left and went back to her camp.
Madara wrapped up her business at the farm after turning up all the soil and headed out to the grasslands to learn more about the plants there. She didn’t even care if she didn’t complete the mission properly, since she was too busy reading a book she had found on the farm. She turned to page one and looked at a plant named Aloe which looked to be a rather small plant. She spent a good thirty minutes just learning every possible thing about this damn plant including its reproductive cycles. It was strange to think about plants reproducing, but it definitely happened. It was a big departure from all the rabit hunting she had done the previous day but at least now she could sit back and relax.
She also learned about how the plant was only found during the winter for whatever reason. Some other details about the plant were that it had serrated leaves and only flowered during the summer. Madara wasn’t too interested about the rest of the plant’s information so she moved onto the next one: the Akasu. This plant grew to about 5 feet tall which was ridiculous seeing as though Madara didn’t even think grass could grow that high. Well in any case, it had the special ability of being able to be applied to wounds in order to heal them. cool beans.
The next herb on the list was an Abak. It likewise grew 5 feet tall and had healing properties. However, this one was only found in cool temperature areas which were probably easy to find. After all, this was the rain country and was possibly the coolest temperature grasslands in all the known world. Whale, that was enough for today. Madara groaned as she realized there was so much more she needed to read about, but that was for another day.
Madara made her way around and continued to read through the book about the grasslands. She was certainly making great strides! she had already made it through every plant that started with the letter A and was now moving onto the ones that started with the letter B. The first one in thie book was called barley. This whole page was littered with many notes about chromosomes and genetics which completely confused Madara. She knew nothing of that subject area and was insulated that they would even put that in a beginner level book. Well, it turned out that barley was complicated because people had bred it to do a ton of different stuff such as grain and beer.
The next plant was called a bastit. This thing was bright pink which meant it was probably pretty easy to spot from a distance. Madara wasn't all too sure why it stood out so much, but it had some special properties that repelled insects. While not all too interesting in itself, it did seem to have some uses! The uchiha moaned and turned the page; this book was going to take forever to complete! Well, now she was reading about a bittermourn which was a herb that only grew in the winter. This thing actually increased your life span which was a ridiculously amazing ability!
Madara contemplated about how hard it would be to find such an herb. The book noted that it was pretty rare and even if you found it, you had to work some kind of gel out of it in order to make the concoction even work. I wonder how people figure this shit out. Is there just a facility where people just do random shit to plants? Well, Madara would definitely be putting this one on her "to find" list.
Madara took it upon herself to look for yet another rabbit just for fun. She had done well to find one a few days ago, but it was time to take the initiative for once! she would walk around around, looking for any type of burrowed critter really. She could see plenty as far as her eyes could see, so it was just about attacking one and capturing one without killing it. With a loud squeak, she dove down towards an unsuspecting burrow and extended her fingers. If she was lucky, she would capture something! Well, she didn’t catch one so it was back to reading books for now.
Madara was marching around the forest, trying to find some herbs to practice her cultivation she’d been reading about on. She would eventually come across some seeds laying around and become very joyous as she could now finally practice! she took the seeds and laid them out nicely on the ground. Yes, this looks perfect! And so she observed, for approximately 24 hours as absolutely nothing happened. The seeds were indeed above ground and were laying on top of rocks. Clearly, this shinobi had absolutely no idea what she was doing. “Damnit, why aren’t these things growing? Don’t they know I’m in a rush?” Madara scoffed and walked away.
Refusing to admit that she was wrong, Madara figured that perhaps she needed to bury the seeds inside of the rock. Yes, that was the most logical idea. Plants started from within the ground afterall, right? It only made sense for Madara to slice into the rocks with a wind jutsu and place the seeds inside. Madara grinned at her cleverness and carried out her plan to no avail. These damn seeds did not want to grow! If only she had some kind of divine guidance to help her on her way. And that’s when she saw it…
In the distance, was a completely naked old lady tending to a garden. She must have some answers! Madara sprinted at full speed and stopped abruptly approximately 5 meters away from her. She didn’t seem to be… different like a mosnter. No, she was definitely human, but she didn’t seem socially aware. Must be a nomad, I guess. In any case, Madara would sit there watching how she tended to her garden. Perhaps she could learn something.
Madara went around, not any more knowledgeable than before, and just looked at the plants. Surely she could gather something about how they were arranged and how they should be taken care of. She noticed that they were all spaced a certain distance apart from one another which had to mean something. Perhaps plants couldn't grow if they were too close to another plant. But why? Perhaps this was an answer she would find out soon. Now in fact ! Our a marched over and yanked two adjacent plants out of the soil and examined their roots. Perhaps they were spaced in such a way that they wouldn't get in the way of one another underground? It was sure some food for thought, pun intended. After all that bullshit, Madara would sit for several days and simply watch her seeds and the garden's plants start to grow. There were definitely growing at different speeds which told her that there was still a lot more improvement to be made.
Madara learned lots from this old lady, much more than she could have ever learned by herself. Apparently you needed to put seeds in soil to get them to grow, which was just ludicrous. How could she ever have figured that out on her own? Well, Madara still had some seeds left so she dug up some soil and put the seeds in. She covered the seeds as the woman did, but after all that was over with, the woman just left! Why would she leave? Didn’t she want to see her plants blossom before her very eyes? Well, Madara was no fool. She would sit there and watch the plants grow!
And so, Madara found herself watching plants grow. Except, not really. She now realized that plants must grow much more slowly than she had first thought. It was like trying to train himself to learn cultivation was kind of stupid. Well, she took the rest of her seeds and buried them. She would then march over to the garden and start digging up the seeds that had just planted along with the plants that were already sprouting. She was trying to figure out anything that could give her some more insight as to what it took to have a green thumb.
Madara noticed that the seeds were moist. It was almost as if they were exposed to water. That’s when Madara saw a makeshift water pail to her right. Well that explains that. Madara took the water pail and dumped the remaining water on half of the seeds she had just planted for no reason whatsoever. It wasn’t like she was going to stick around anyways, she had stuff to do. It was only when she came back several days later that the seeds that had been watered had grown much more than the ones that did not get extra water. What a twist!
Madara then made her way towards the other parts of the garden. She would see if there were any plants worth taking with her. Did she feel bad about potentially stealing from an old lady? A little bit. However, last time she checked, being a shinobi entitled her to some plants if it meant she could better herself for the sake of her village. And so, Madara searched long and hard for the plants she was aware of. She was particularly interested in finding some tobacco, because that shit was the best. Not that she would know, of course; she was an innocent girl! She skipped off back to her camp for the night.
