Gonk’s closed eyes slowly peeled open, the weak December light shining through his window. As he rolled over in his bed, preparing to fall back asleep, something caught Gonk’s eye. It appeared to be a letter of some kind, sealed in a white envelope and tied shut with a red ribbon.
“That’s odd,” Gonk thought as he reached over and grabbed the envelope. Still laying down, Gonk used his sharp fingernails to slice open the envelope and deposited the contents into his hand. The envelope had contained but a single sheet of paper, the contents of which Gonk read after grabbing his glasses from the bedside table.
As Gonk’s eyes scanned the paper, his eyebrows furrowed and a frown appeared on his face. He didn’t like this. He didn’t like this one bit. It was bad enough that it was something Christmas related, but who the hell were these Yoi and Itazura people. Not only that but he was getting some serious deja vu, from this whole situation. Bad feelings mostly, but somewhere in there was the faint smell of flowers, pleasant, yet fleeting. On a whim, Gonk took off his glasses and glanced at the temples. He had never noticed it before, but the letters HK were inscribed on them. The same initials that had been on the letter that had accompanied them.
Suddenly, Gonk’s brain was filled with images. Elves barricading themselves behind a snow wall, a giant meteor upon a snowy peak, a young boy drowning in Gonk’s own water vortex, and a decapitated man in a red coat lying in a bloody pool at Gonk’s feet. And finally, the warm embrace of Kasumi Hyuuga by a snowy oasis filled with marvelous animals. Just as suddenly as these memories flooded back into Gonk, they escaped from his grasp, leaving Gonk feeling scared and confused.
Perhaps it was out of sheer desire to get another taste of these memories that Gonk signed the summoning contract that morning after gathering his gear, or perhaps he subconsciously wanted to warm his icy heart with some Christmas cheer. But regardless of the reason, for even Gonk himself didn’t know, Gonk did sign that contract, and he found himself in what he could only assume to be the land of moon, with a giant gate that appeared to be made of peppermint. Perplexed, Gonk, clad in his ANBU armor and mask, walked up to these candy gates, to find a note attached.
“To whom it may concern,
Thank you for agreeing to help me in this noble cause. In order to stop Yoi’s dastardly plot, you will first need to prevent his cookies from circulating. They are highly poisonous, and eating just a crum could kill you! You and your team must prevent them from reaching the public.
Best of luck,
-Itazura”
Gonk took a step back and frowned. This was all highly suspicious to Gonk, but he shrugged. This Itazura guy promised to pay well, so it didn’t really matter to Gonk. Once again, Gonk was overcome with an immense feeling of deja vu, as the situation felt so familiar, however the origin evaded him as always.
“The letter mentioned a team,” Gonk noted as he leaned up against his massive sword, Kiribachi. “Guess I’ll wait for them to show before going in.”
As he waited, Gonk racked his brain for the source of his deja vu and stared off at the rolling hills of the land.

The worst part about being reverse summoned was that Goro didn’t even get to bring the penguin.
It was morbid curiosity that had him sign his name with a drop of blood, and his first thought after envisioning his death by Samehada was ‘shit, I probably should have read this.’ In his defense, he’d had a long night at the lab- he’d been working with some of the senior technicians developing some kind of mirror laser combo with the hopes of detecting chakra use, but most of his own knowledge was in how well things could explode.
He genuinely enjoyed learning, but his lack of a traditional education and reckless enthusiasm made it difficult for others to let him grow. The green haired genin scratched his nose awkwardly, blinking light out of his eyes. He was still in flannel pajamas, wearing house slippers that were probably Murata’s (it’s not like she was using them, right?), and a pair of strap-on safety goggles around his neck. The labcoat had been left back at the research and development department for sterilization, as per usual.
The nip in the air was unfamiliar to someone who’d grown up in the tropics. Even the storm barrier only lessened the temperature- he’d never really seen snow to this degree outside of controlled experiments before, which meant he was likely very far from Kirigakure.
An early demise by way of Samehada seemed more likely, if the cold didn’t get to him first.
He put the heels of his hands up against his eyes, pushing down just hard enough to send black spots scattering across his vision. Goro blinked, spotting a figure against a gate (made of candy?? Was it painted, or like… Actual candy?). They were wearing ANBU armor recognizable as belonging to Island Country, so they were probably safe.
They also towered over him and had a giant sword.
“Hey! Um, mister ANBU!” he waved his hand, as if the shouting didn’t make his abrupt appearance a few meters away evident. “Do you, uhh…” he scratched his ear, feeling all of a sudden embarrassed. Maybe what he’d signed was a mission scroll, or meant for higher ups, and he got it by accident.
It was around then that he caught sight of the missive pinned to the gates. He read it over once, and then twice, looking back to the masked figure.
Goro looked down to his feet, trying to ignore the dark flannel and sandals, feeling woefully unprepared.
“...I’m not sure why I’m here,” he muttered after a moment. “Is this, um. A mistake? Did I like, accidentally mess up your mission? I’m sorry to bother you, but I’ve never been outside the village and even though it’s like really cool I’m real nervous and…” he trailed off after a few moments, realizing the stranger likely didn’t care about his mumblings.
Shit. Did he make this awkward?
He needed a conversation changer. What was there…?
“I like your sword.” he blurted out after a moment.

He was at it again, the Suna Prince, Souji Hyuuga, known to his captors as Kaze was in his cell drenched in his own sweat as she was up all night working out and using the wall as his punching bag. His body covered in scars as he practiced and honed his already masted style of fighting. The gentle fist. He found the style to be delicate the more he used it and the more that he reflect on it…it was useless as he landed here without so much as a means to counter what the Mizukage managed to throw at him with him being of little to no importance.
A sound would catch his attention. He froze still as he picked up on the sliding of paper under his cell door. He glanced over his left shoulder. Looking pass the giant stuff cactus and armadillo that was gifted to him by two unique characteristics of this odd village. “A letter?” He murmured. Turning on his heels motioning to collect it.
He read it and he took in its message and then noticed the summoning scroll attached. Souji felt odd about this one, as if this was something he experienced before, yet this was a more formal approach than the last. He would glance around and simple shrug before he smirked and placed his hand on the scroll and was instantly teleported.
In that instant he was no longer in his cell, he was in an entirely different country. The scent of fresh air would fill his nostrils and his body was touched with a sensation that seemed frigid, yet…yet? What was this? His body did not feel overwhelmed by this air - no it felt like a slight tickle to him as he could see the wisps of silver flames flicker about his head. His body warmer than it has ever been and the snow around his feet instantly melting around him about 1 feet all around. He touched his neck and it was gone…the seal that was placed on him was gone. His chakra was circulating around him and he could feel his freedom.
It was then that he noticed someone, no two individuals ten meters away from him. One he recognized, Goro. He recalled his chakra before he noticed his voice. The other he was unfamiliar with…wait, no he was not. He recalled this one from the exams. To be more precise his eye would reveal all secrets of this one to him. Souji’s Byakugan would invade and read him and the other like a bold letter book. “You’re that shark guy, Gonk, aren’t you?” He voiced, if his presence wasn’t acknowledged before, it was now.
His hands fell within his pockets and the snow that aimed to hit his body immediately melted before touching him when it came into a foot of him. His Byakugan would coldly gaze at the Hoshigaki. He would then turn his gaze to the other one, Goro. Reading him and noticing a few more things about him that he didn’t before. “Still being a pain in the ass with your presence, marsh top?” He said to that one. Tilted his head to the left and then right as the sound of the air between the bones popped. He felt the relief. He would smile as he then sternly, yet nonchalantly gaze at them. “So…which one of you are first? Matter of fact, is that sensitive butler around?” He asked, in high hopes that he was.

It was in the dead of night, the sounds of crickets was what usually Hafuma went asleep too but tonight circumstances seemed different, the noise of the night all but grown silent, the eerie silence waking up Hafuma despite the hard day of training, his sleep disturbed as he lamented waking up so late.
Finding it hard to go to sleep he went to his fridge to grab a late night snack and a drink to help him fall back asleep, just something that was his tired mind. However, stepping into his living room Hafuma found nothing but calm, his door slightly ajared, a letter with his name on it with a red ribbon tied around it. "The hell?" Hafuma immediately spoke as he went back into his room getting dressed quickly and geared, someone freaking broke into his home and he wanted to know why.
Dressed, Hafuma open the letter with a quick motion of one of his tantos, reading the contents of the letter, the names You and Itazura said repeatedly along with the task of stopping some poisonous cookie outbreak as Christmas was fast approaching, "]Why are people fucking with Christmas.." Hafuma squinted through his tired eyes as he surely didn't want to be bothered but he was personally addressed anyway.
If someone asked Hafuma he would tell them the reason he signed the contract was that he didn't want someone else Christmas to be ruined, his father had trained him for many years yet despite the harshness of it all he for a different present every year, nothing grand, nothing that he could hurt someone with but the love his father was conveyed every year until just a few years ago, Christmas lost its meaning for him but maybe he could make sure others were not ruined and thus he signed the contract since he was already geared up due to his initial caution.
Signing the contract Hafuma found himself reversed summon as he wrote the last letter, the world around him shifting as he was no longer in his room but outside, snow falling around them as he saw a large gate in the distance, "Reverse summoning.. on this caliber.." Hafuma said, taking a look at his surroundings, realizing he couldn't identify a single landmark from Kirigakure.
Walking through the snow, Hafuma saw a few signs that at least made him aware that he was somewhere in moon country which was quite a travel from Kirigakure, this Itazura person must have been rather powerful, and judging by the reward, rich as well and that helped him feel justified in his choice, however small a comfort it was.
Following the path Hafuma found himself reaching a gate that appeared to made of peppermint but that wasn't all he found as he got closer, three shinobi present as well, they seemed to have a been discussing something, trudging through the snow with a cloak on that he prepared after reading the letter Hafuma approaches the gate with the individuals, "Anyone know who this Itazura and Yoi are and why they are in competition?" Was really the first thing he wanted to know, secondly he noticed a letter, seeing the man in a specific Kirigakure anbu mask holding it, "What does it say, superior?"

Re: We Wish You a Merry Hijinks

Gonk was stirred from his hill gazing by a voice calling out to him. Gonk turned around to find a green haired boy who seemingly appeared out of nowhere a few meters away from Gonk. They were around the same height as Gonk, though much slighter in build and the two appeared to be roughly the same age. But the odd thing about this guy was that he was clad in pajamas, slippers, and… were those lab goggles?
Gonk watched as the boy read the paper posted on the gate, then stumbled through his sentences as he attempted to speak to Gonk. Up until this point, Gonk hadn’t said a word, as the green haired boy hadn’t really completed a sentence, but when finished talking, Gonk spoke in his teenage voice.
“I appreciate the compliment,” Gonk told him, a smile beneath his mask. “And don’t worry about interrupting anything, to be honest I have no idea why I’m here either. Well besides what the two letters said. You did get a letter delivered to you right?”
Suddenly, something occurred to Gonk.
“You are a ninja, right?”
The fact that he was wearing pajamas didn’t exactly scream out ninja to Gonk, but looks could be deceiving. Also he figured a non ninja wouldn’t get a letter. The boy had no identifying markings on him, but he had recognized Gonk as an ANBU, and wasn’t hostile to him. So probably from the mist. However, Gonk wanted to confirm.
“Are you from the mist, or somewhere else?” Gonk asked, before something else caught his eye.
The appearance of another boy ten meters from where he was standing. There was something familiar about him, that Gonk didn’t quite place at first.
Then he spoke.
In a flash Gonk was no longer leaning back on his sword, but instead standing up straight and holding his weapon to the side, the top touching the ground. His grip was loose, but ready to go at a moment's notice.
“Long time no see Kaze,” Gonk said calmly. “Terribly sorry that I wasn’t able to visit you in your cell.” As an ANBU, Gonk had been informed of the happenings of the Kage Summit, and how Souji had been taken hostage. As Gonk casually sized the boy up, he noticed that the seal on his neck was missing. With any luck it would reappear when they finished the mission, but for now, Gonk would have to be on guard. Just then, a fourth and final person appeared, walking up to the group and asking about Itazura and Yoi.
“No idea,” Gonk told the newcomer as briefly glanced away from Souji. Like the other three, the newcomer was a teenaged boy about the same age as Gonk.
“Superior huh,” Gonk thought, amused as the boy spoke.
“Here,” Gonk said, pulling the paper off the gate and handing it to the boy. “I take it you’re from Kirigakure?” Gonk asked, basing this assumption off the fact that the boy called him a superior, something you wouldn’t really expect from a foreign nation. Gonk still wasn’t used to the respect that the ANBU mask brought him, as people didn’t know his age and only knew that he was a powerful shinobi, trusted to carry out the most dangerous and top secret missions.
“Anyways, I’m Mako,” Gonk told the group, using his ANBU name, “and if there aren’t any objections I guess I’ll be taking the lead here.” Provided nobody spoke up, Gonk would continue. “So as you guys saw on the two letters, this Itazura guy wants us to sabotage some cookie factory in this village. Unfortunately, he wasn’t kind enough to give us an exact location, so Kaze, would you mind using that eye of yours to locate it.” Gonk figured that if Souji was there and unbound, he might as well have him contribute his skills to the team.
As the Sunagakure ninja did that, Gonk would glance around the group from beneath his mask to see if they had anything to say.

Goro nearly crumpled in relief at the response. “Yeah! I’m a genin- sorta. Kinda? Not a good one but I work in R&D and the distinction is necessary to work with certain-”
Hopefully, that would be enough confirmation for Mako before he was suddenly interrupted by the arrival of two others. He recognized one as the stranger from Suna- the other was a mystery, but the other must have been another ninja from Kirigakure he simply had yet to run into.
The constant digs at his person were getting tiring, to be honest. Sumire was allowed to do that, but from a stranger…
He vaguely wondered what the underlying motivation of this was. Was he trying to provoke a reaction? Was there something else?
Did the captive have so little control of his life right now that he was desperate to take control over what limited things he could?
Goro turned to Mako, remaining silent. He was only a genin in title, after all, so he’d have permission to access low level restricted areas and work with controlled substances- toxins, addictive drugs, rare metals and the like. He wouldn’t be able to contribute much if something went wrong, unless someone desperately wanted a soil analysis or wanted to know how to perform an ion chromatography something.
“Whatever the cookie factory is, it probably produces heat, right? Waste byproducts and whatnot as well. I’d imagine it would be fairly sizable to be called a factory, and the note implies its actively in use. Maybe just look for large buildings with active chimneys or waste pipes? From there, if we can’t tell the difference between the cookie place and the workshop, we could probably just use our senses of smell. I’d imagine the factory would smell considerably different, considering…”
He became acutely aware that he was surrounded by people he’d never met, at least one of which took every noted opportunity to make fun of him.
Goro closed his mouth, and instead chose to listen to the responding commentary of the surrounding ninja. He scratched his nose absentmindedly, hopefully now forgotten.

Kaze? He knew of that name? Souji didn’t not reveal no expressive concern to this. Analyzing the situation, he noted the attire that Gonk was wearing…Anbu. Distinctive due to the mask he don. Souji immediately put two-and-two together. Murata must have let her Anbu know if Souji’s identity the moment she was out of his sight, he wasn’t made about this, in fact it should have been expected and thus he understood it. “My feelings…they’re hurt, bud. What do you think we should do about that?” He responded to Gonk’s mention of not visiting the cell. But then… “Forget it. I’m not about to start trouble when I don’t know what the consequences of my actions will be.” He said, another establishment between him and an Kiri shinobi within an instant. Due to Gonk using his alias…Souji knew that he could trust him…right?
The tension would dissipate as the final member of their group would arrive. Souji carelessly glancing over to him. Listening to the exchange between him and Gonk, no, Mako. A disguised name when the mask was donned. Souji would respect that.
He would allow his eye to expand its range from the current 20 meters to a full 100 meters with a 360 degree view. Even without his second eye, his prowess with only one was just as good when active. The Hyuuga was prone to reconnaissance when arriving to a new place. It was second nature for him to be curious and cautious at the same time. Upon Mako’s request, Souji would give him a cool stare. “I’m already ahead of you. So far I cannot see anything of interesting within 100 meters of us. But let me try something else.” He would say.
The vies within his eye would strain further as his capped visual limit was broken through. His eyes were now capable of seeing up to 1,609 meters. At the cost of being completely forgoing his 360 degree vision. He scanned the land. For some time he would swivel his head left to right. He came to a stop. “Mako, exactly 1,198 meters north. I’ve found something that could be our destination. One second.” He would then peer deeper into the structure that he alluded to. There he would see a few heads within this building. Gathering it would seem and setting up for something…festive. This had to be the place. Yeah, this is the place. One…two..ten operatives. They’re not really guarded, but this could be a ploy. If that’s the case, it’s a clever one.” His visual range would warp back to its 100 meters and his 360 degree gaze would restore. He would then sigh as he would look over to Mako for further game plans about this mission. He did his part and he saw no issue with him leading. After all these other two were from his village and it only made sense. While in the process Souji was analyzing their chakra more and more.

A Pendragon must have patience
My eyes are bound by truth
My eyes are bound by truth
"That's too bad" Hafuma answered as he got an immediate reply from the Kirigakure anbu mask Shinobi he believed was his superior in rank as he closed in on the three individuals, eyes shifting Hafuma took notice of the green haired men that didn't look like a Shinobi and more like a civilian, "Did this Itazura person call upon civilians as well or did you just sign the contract that reversed summoned us here in your pajamas?"
"Here" Hafuma heard turning his head back to his superior as he was handed the letter on the gate, reading it as it described they were asked with dropping Yoi cookies as they were laced with poison by either stopping them from being made or take all the cookies, the latter being the easier solution. "Could be worse." Hafuma said, passing the letter to anyone else that wanted to see it. The superior asking if he was from Kirigakure, "My birth parents were born in Kirigakure, I however I am a recently reformed missing shinobi that happens to live in Kirigakure these days, nice to meet you superior, they call me Hafuma, Hafuma Pendragon, and that's for the rest of you as well however you may be.
With introductions aside the superior introduced himself as Mako and he decided to be leader if everyone was fine with it, Hafuma nodding as he was okay with it. That also aside Mako explained the paper he allowed him to read and Hafuma in turn passed around, time to stop some cookies but no location. Mako turned to the member Hafuma hadn't personally spoken to yet, mentioning the use of some eye which immediately sparked Hafuma interest as he turned to him.
But by the time Hafuma turned to him he noticed the man's eyes had changed and his own widened, "Is that the Hyuga clan's eye technique..the Byakugan..?" Hafuma asked curiously, his father told him of this clan dojutsu, his father saying the Pendragon special eye technique worked similar to the Byakugan however the flow of chakra was not visible to them and instead they were granted a different type of sight. "No..please excuse me. That was rude." Hafuma immediately retracted his question, seeing it was quite the sight and he imagined he would see it a few more times before they separated.
Using his eyes this Kaze person found a sight about little more than a mile away from them, 'that's quite far!' Hafuma was a bit surprised to hear how far his eyes could see into the distance, Hafuma wondering if his eyes could do the same. Attempting to do so his pupils narrowed into draconic slits, his pale green eyes lighting up a shiny emerald as black marks appeared in his scela, as he attempted to focus his vision just as far, seeing the outline of ten operatives chakra natured, "Three of them have Fire Nature and four of them have Wind Nature, a solid combination, while the last three have lightning." Hafuma added as he then looked at the group, "I'm okay with Mako leading as well."

Gonk nodded as he received the information from Souji and the person who introduced themself as Hafuma Pendragon. All three had also consented to Gonk leading the mission, so after thinking for a moment, he spoke.
“Alright first let’s head over there, then we can set up an entrance strategy. Ten isn’t exactly overwhelming against four, especially if they’re lower ranked enemies. But, we can’t be sure that they are weak, so we’re going to want to be careful.”
Gonk walked up to the peppermint gates, and after taking a breath, pushed the two giant doors open with ease. As they swung open, Gonk got his first glimpse of the Christmas village, and he was fairly surprised about what he found. For one, everything was significantly undersized. The houses and streets looking like they were made for tiny humans, perhaps elves? Gonk supposed it would fit with the theme.
“Alright, let’s go,” Gonk told the group as he stepped into the village. “Kaze, you should lead the way so we don’t get lost.”
While perhaps it seemed like a silly thing to say in a village that looked like everything was only three quarters of the size it should be, it was still quite big, and very sprawling. Just glancing down the main street, Gonk could tell that the village didn’t have a grid layout.
Once Kaze began heading towards the building, Gonk would gesture for the two other shinobi to follow, before taking up the rear himself.
As they were moving, Gonk’s theory about the inhabitants of the village were confirmed. Several elves walked around, going into homes and stores, and just living out their lives. Gonk even noticed some kids having a snowball fight. This scene brought a smile across his face, as he remembered the snowball battle he had with some of the kirigakure genin a year ago.
As soon as the bakery was in sight, Gonk would instruct the group to stop, and lead them into an adjacent alley.
The letter had warned that Yoi’s servants might be aware of their plans, so Gonk wanted to get as much of a jump on them as possible.
“Alright, the easiest way to do this is just going to be to sneak in, destroy everything really fast, then get the hell out,” Gonk said as they walked. “After seeing the inhabitants of this town, I honestly doubt we’ll be met with any resistance, but you never know. Kaze, if my memory serves me correctly, you use a variation of the taijutsu arts, right?” Gonk asked, turning to the Hyuuga. "As for you two, just do what you can. With your condition there’s no way you’ll be fighting on the frontlines,” Gonk said to the green haired genin, referencing his attire. “And as for you Hafuma, use those swords if you’re good with them. If you’re not, I’d ask why you even carry them.”
The group took a turn and found themselves in front of a back door to the factory.
“This’ll be perfect,” Gonk said as he turned around to the other shinobi. “Alright, let’s get in, destroy the machines, materials, and all of the finished cookies, then get out of there. There might be an alarm or something so we’ll want to make this quick. Okay, everyone ready?”
After these final words, Gonk would walk up to the locked metal door and prepare to kick it in.

His head tilted towards Hafuma- though he didn’t know his name at the time- as he considered the words. It was foolish, but he’d gotten odder summons in the middle of the night from some of the techs, and besides, he thought it was a joke to begin with. Even so…
Being so easily looked over by the rest of the group was humbling. He knew on some level that he was useless. A spare body to work late, a spare brother in case his twin failed, a cheap replacement for something of greater value.
He liked to imagine that he made good lab contributions, but that wasn’t quite true either, was it? Mostly he performed maintenance, writing down results, or otherwise carrying out smaller experiments because he was too stupid- not good enough to be trusted with the more important ones.
He tugged a lock of hair out of his eyes absentmindedly. What was the point of that, anyway? He felt a sudden urge to cut it off. “I’ll stay out of your way,” he speaks up after a moment, looking between Kaze and Mako alike. “I know I’m a liability.”
The village itself was lively in a way Kirigakure wasn’t. The Hidden Mist certainly had a certain bustle, but the military complex dangled over the heads of the villagers like a sword on a string. There was a lack of tension that he likely wouldn’t have recognized back home, but now that he was aware, it was difficult not to notice.
He delicately stepped out of the way of a bunch of elves (what the fuck?), eyeing the group a bit ahead of him. Even Hafuma seemed leagues ahead of him in ability, despite Goro’s guess that he was a chuunin or below, if only in how he referred to Mako as a superior.
Hm. That was…
…
Maybe he was a leech off of Murata’s resources. She was only looking after him as a favor, after all. Goro made a mental note to double his workload when… if? he returned. He technically did a lot at the moment, but it wasn’t shinobi duty by any stretch of the imagination. He only had the ninja rank so he could utilize restricted and controlled substances that were otherwise off limits to civilians.
He tugged another lock of hair from his line of vision, watching Mako and Kaze with busy thoughts as they discussed the best way in. He was the only one of his siblings without green hair naturally- he dyed it as… Some show of solidarity, maybe. He didn’t remember.
Maybe that could go, too.
A quick scan of the building didn’t reveal any seals, but… “If you guys get hurt or anything, I can use Mystical Palm. It’s not much, but… if you get injured, it’s not the end of the world, is what I’m saying.” he wasn’t licensed to practice medicine, much less field medicine. But he could cast the technique in a pinch if necessary.
