Miki turned in her bed as she felt the sun shine into her small room through the window, the warmth was welcomed and unwelcomed all the same time. She certainly didn’t want to wake, but at the same time she knew that she needed to get several things done early that morning. As Miki groaned, pulling the thin blanket further up to cover her head, her eyes would flicker open slightly, noticing the brightness in the room… She paused her movements for several moments before shooting out of the bed, frantically looking around the room for the alarm clock she had set, only to find it unplugged and on the floor… Fear and panic set in, she had to be late… The sun was already quite far up, signalling that she certainly didn’t wake up when she originally planned to.
Making haste, she would scurry from her bed to the small bathroom attached, washing and readying herself for the day as she slipped into a short thigh high black and gold dress, pulling up the long black boots, pulling her hair up into a tight bun, she wasn’t as dressed up as she usually would be but there just wasn’t enough time for her to properly dress herself… Desperate times call for desperate measures. She would quickly exit her room, and the inn she had been staying in, she was still fairly new to Hoshigakure, and hadn’t quite learned all the ins and outs of the village… But it was a rather lovely place, and she had enjoyed herself thus far.
Miki would find herself rushing across the streets of the bustling village as she made her errands, she needed to find a place to properly set up shop – but so far there had just been no luck for the raven haired female. As she crossed to the right side section of the shops; she would hear a voice yelling, this would cause for enough distraction for her to turn heel, her eyes scanning the opening in front of her, filled with villagers, and other shinobi, she would come to see a small yellow hair’d girl, tears welling up in her eyes… “Poppy!” She would cry, the sound to Miki, was almost heartbreaking as she watched the events unfold.
An older woman came to the young girl, assuming this woman was the mother – as she picked the small girl up to hug her, “I’m sorry… We just can’t find Poppy dear…” The woman's voice was motherly indeed, Miki narrowed her eyes… Who was Poppy? Why was she or he missing? “We’ll set up flyers, and ask around the neighbours, I’m sure we will eventually find your dog.” A male voice came in the picture before Miki, the father, she would assume.
“We’ll even offer 4,000 Ryo to whoever brings her home.” The woman would state, this is what would peak Miki’s interest… Money, ryo is what she needed. Miki would close the gap between herself and the small group of people, “I couldn’t help but hear that you’re missing your pet… If you give me a description I’m sure I could find her and bring her home!” Miki would smile towards them, the mother and father would glance towards each other before smiling, “Are you a shinobi?” The father would question, normally Miki wouldn’t wear the villages ‘headband’, and today was no exception, “I am, considered a genin actually.” She smiled, the mother would nod, and the description would be given, with the promise of 4000 ryo in return if she came back with the small dog.
Miki would start in the obvious places, the backyard where the fence was broken, her eyes scanning for foot prints, or rather paw prints as she walked carefully around the fence. Her eyes would scan the broken section, to make note of an interesting fact, the fence had been tampered with! Her emerald eyes widen for a moment, taking in the new fact she had just discovered… This may have just turned into a mission that could potentially involve theft.
Miki would follow the paw prints carefully before they would disappear from sight, scanning the small alleyway as she did, her eyes narrowing at the sight of a single footprint, rather large in size… Her eyes would then follow that print, breaking off finally towards a rather dimly lit house, it was older and more broken down than the rest of the small street houses… Moved around the house to look around the outside, and scout out of her current position around the corner towards the back yard Miki would notice a fence that was… Larger than most, and with little to no gaping to be able to look inside of it.
Miki sighed slightly, looking around to see if there was a vantage point for her to climb on to, taking note of a few trees and houses, she decided to go with the tree just adjacent of the backyard – making her accent to the top of it, she would sit on the thickest of the branches, not wanting to take the chance of falling, or breaking the limb. Her eyes scanned the backyard, only to notice several kennels in the backyard… She watched carefully as a tall man would open the back door, walking towards the kneels with several dogs following behind him; including the dog she was searching for!
Waiting carefully in silence for the man to place the animals within the kennels, she sighed, thirty minutes had passed before the man returned to his home, shutting off the lights… Miki waited for several moments before she would crawl to the bottom of the tree and slink her way over to the fence, looking for a weak point to push or pull out a piece of it so she could slip in and out with the missing dog.
After a few minutes of searching, she found her way in, ironically rather easily. As she slipped into the backyard, Miki slowly crept her way across to the kennel that she saw the man put the dog in. Her eyes scanning the other kennels, most being empty, but two of them having several dogs – Miki looked carefully at the animals, some were terrified, cowarded in corners… The sight broke Miki’s heart. She would glance towards the house; the lights still off… “Why does he want you guys…” She would whisper to herself.
Miki took several moments to ponder the situation unsure of the actions she was about to take… She knew that the small hole she came through wouldn’t be large enough for most of the dogs in captivity. As she took note, a single light flickered on in the building; her eyes widening as she knew that she had to take action right away. Her hands would wave several hand signs before slamming her right hand into the ground, the earth under her would begin to quiver as a small mole hill would fly across the lawn slamming into the wooden fence, causing a much large hole to appear from where she had entered, making quick work she would open the kennels with animals, watching as they would run off into the street… Hoping they would find their way home – she scooped up the dog she came for, Poppy, and headed back to where she came from.
Her plan was to report the man in the morning to the proper channels, but for now, she wanted her reward, and to head back to the inn she was staying in.
