In truth the whole situation was a bit…..embarrassing. He continued to read over the document that Hook had handed him, meanwhile the pirate want a be was smiling with a gold tooth grin. Listed on the document was a simple job, someone a gang had lent some money too had not paid up and now it was well past the necessary time. The part that made the entire situation a bit awkward, was the the person who had not paid, and the person now reading the document to accept the job,……was the same person. Sure the aliases were different, but Maku was aware of who he was.
Currently he was going by Taki Maki, the same name he had gone by during his time in the Fang country. A riff on his home and actual name so obvious, so over, that it was covert. It had worked so far too. The name on the paper was Kani, the original name he had gone by years ago when he had first started taking criminal names. He had a few other aliases, but these were the most common ones that he went by. Rubbing his face he looked up…. “Soooo ummm yea…..I guess I can do this?” He said, not being able to help himself add a questioning tone.
Hook laughed, “o don’t yer worry lad, I think you can too. They paid me to be the middle man, so just gotta pay me.” Hook still was holding back laughter. No doubt he found the whole situation hilarious. Not to mention, the gig was a sweet one for him. He had to do literally nothing, and was about to get paid for it. Sure it wasn’t a huge payout, but in a world we’re money was often stained red, a little fast cash was never an unwelcome thing.
Reaching into his pocket, he’d pull out some money. Count it out, and hand it over to Hook. Hook would review the money, place it in a till, and then pull out more money than Maku had given him, handing it over. Maku in turn would take it, count it out, and then place it in his own pocket.
“That might be yer record fer my brokerage.” He’d say now not containing the belly thumping laugh. His hook thumping on the wood of the desk until it got stuck, which only caused even more laughter. At this point even Maku joined in. He had to admit, the situation was hilarious. Treating themselves to a bit of the commission Hook and Maku both then went and sat through pedicures, and a manicure and a half. He watched as they even polished his hook for them. Taking his payment he found his way back to the inn, and went to bed with a good days work behind him. You didn’t get this little bit of joy on the straight and narrow, and he admitted he had missed it quite a lot. Now, it was time to dream.
