- Mission:
Tic tac, tic tac, tic tac… the huge wall clock at the exam room’s front kept ticking as Jun was deciding which to words to put on paper in order to answer his written test of the Chuunin Exams. That was the first trial he would go through, perhaps the safest one, as he was only facing himself… and time. Jun was normally calm and composed under stressful situations, except when it comes to written exams. When at the academy, he would always ace on “practical” and combat exams, but would always had a hard time when it came to actual written exams. And this wasn’t any simple test, but rather the most important one that Jun took upon this day, after all, failing It meant he would have to wait god knows how long for the next Chuunin Exams.
Jun looked around the room, packed with some nervous genins, all of them focused on their own exams, while the proctors wandered around the room, watching on the examinees so no one would cheat. The room was very silent, apart from the ticking clock.
- YOU, YOU’RE CHEATING, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!
Jun looked at the screams direction, it was one of the proctors, removing by force some young genin, with a bald head and the face full of pimples, who begged not to be disqualified while being escorted out. “Focus Jun… focus!”. The young Shibasaki clansman looked back at his own exam, and finally started answering it:
1. To fulfill my late father’s dream and to restore the Shibasaki clan to its former glory.
2. Probably a lumberjack.
3. Loyalty, humility and perseverance. Loyalty to the village and my fellow Shinobi, humility to always be open to learn, evolve and grow as a shinobi. Perseverance to never quit or give up, always giving my best, until the very end.
4. My strengths are my chakra control, my fast and strategic thinking, my vitality and resolve, and my sheer dominance over Sun Release, the advanced element of the Shibasaki Clan. My weakness are my athleticism and my raw strength
5. Raijin and Fujin
6. To raise the strongest shinobi and to generate the fiercest of warriors, forged by blood and sweat.
7. I would fight till the end, unless this would mean I would fail my task, as completing my missions are more important then my warrior’s pride.
8. A true leader's priority during a mission should be the successful accomplishment of the mission while also making sure that his teammates/subordinates are coming back home.
9. That would depend on many factors: age of them both, which of the two contributes the most to society, which of the two survival would benefit more the village, which of the two could help more people if saved…
10. I want to serve the village as long as I can, climbing up the ranks and constantly evolving as a Shinobi, while also rebuilding the Shibasaki clan, teaching the new generations the secrets behind the Tengan, the Shibasaki clan’s doujustu and how to use/control the advanced element of my clan, Sun Release. One day perhaps I can become not only a great clan leader, but also a great village leader, wearing the Raikage's robe.
“Well, that wasn’t so hard…”- As Jun was about to put his pen down and handle his exam to a proctor, he realized the test wasn’t over, on the back of the paper that contained the questions he just answered, there was on essay and some extra questions he should complete… “Fuck, fuck, fuck….fuuuck!” – lamented the young genin, as he face palmed himself. He again observed around, differently than himself, he could see that people was struggling with the exam. Some of they were soaked with sweat, as the despair of not having a single clue on how to answer a question was apparent on their faces. “Why are they so desperate? My exam was pretty easy so far…” – indeed, so far Jun had zero difficulties answering the questions, as it all looked like a personality test. However, there were still two essays ahead, so Jun focused once again in finishing the test.
SITUATION 1:
“Always when sent on recon, Jun would recall the valuable lessons he received on the academy on this kind of missions: move stealthily, always choose an good advantage point, where you have a clear a full vision of the environment your scouting, never leave any trace behind and most importantly: don’t be seen! It sounded somewhat silly, but this was very important indeed, as one can only observe the natural structure of whatever they are scouting when they are acting as if you are not even there.
As Jun headed towards a bandit camp to scout it so their threat level could be accessed, he was already planning on how to execute those fundamentals he learned. Obviously, being gifted with the Shibasaki’s clan doujutsu, the Tengan, which granted him very useful thermal vision. The hideout was somewhere inside the woods, so by using the Tengan, Jun was able to scout and scan the area ahead of him, using his visual prowess to see through what for regular eyes would be a obstructed sight, full of trees and bushes. His thermal vision showed him many traps on the way to the camp, and also hostile scouts guarding the area. On the other hand, Jun observed that by going atop the trees, he would have a much easier path, with only a couple of already detected traps on the way.
This path would also help Jun executing the second lesson he learned: from above and with his doujutsu, he would have a clear and wide sight of everything below. After setting his course, Jun proceeded to climb up I large tree and, using his ninja skills, started swiftly jumping from tree to tree, doing as little noise as he could. He easily evaded the traps set by the bandits that he detected beforehand with his Tengans, and after a little while, he almost was right above the bandit camp, which was located in a glade in the woods ,with it being around 8 meters north of him. He kept himself hidden from plain sight by standing behind a large tree trunk, being able to see through it with his thermal vision.
From there, Jun was able to observe and memorize the patrolling routines around the camp, the organization and distribution of man around the area, as its weak and less guarded spots. The east side of it, for example, had many gaps where Kumo forces could infiltrate, if needed. The southern entrance, on the other hand, was way more guarded and would be a bad choice of attack point. After a few minutes of observation, Jun believed that the bandit camp was not a big of a threat at all, as the bandits actually seemed a little bit amateurs. Infiltrating it should not be a problem at all, but the Shibasaki clansman that they all had apparent tattoos on their bodies, and with Jun having none, this would definitely be a problem to blend in.
As Jun was instructed to only infiltrate if possible, and as he assessed that the bandit camp was no big threat, the young genin decided to return to the village and report to his superiors his recently acquired intel. Again, using his visual prowess, Jun swiftly moved from tree to tree heading back to the village, avoiding traps and scouts detected by his eyes, leaving no trace behind that he was ever there…”
Well, the first essay was not that bad. It took Jun some time, but he finished it and he still had time for the final questions. He stretched his arm and went to read it… and that is when he understood why people were almost crying doing their exams. “What the hell is phagocytosis? And logarithm? And the 45th element of the periodic table…” – Jun had no idea where to start, and how to answer all that stuff. Now he was the one soaking wet, almost dripping over his own exam, caught in despair… he knew he had to cheat or improvise.
SITUATION 2:
Cheating Scenario: “Jun read over and over again all those impossible questions and still, he had no idea on even how to start answering it, so he decided that there was only one way to pass the exam: cheating. This would be particularly unpleasant to Jun, as he hated cheating and he never did it before. But this was no regular exam, this was the Chuunin Exams, an event that took place once in a while and that was vital for Jun’s developing and rank-up as a Shinobi. His decision was made, but after overcoming the moral dilemma, there was still the part on how to actually cheat in such environment. The classroom was absolutely full of proctors, some of them standing in the same place watching the room, some of them wandering around the desks, trying to catch any suspicious activity… and boy, they were good at it. Just in a span of 5 minutes in which Jun was coming up with a plan to cheat, at least 4 other exam participants were removed from the room by somehow trying to deceive the proctors. Two of them were trying to exchange exams and both were removed. One guy had a hidden piece of paper under his sleeve with some answers, and the fourth one Jun could not see why he was removed.
This only made Jun extra nervous, how on earth would he cheat in such a guarded environment? Well, he would have to figure something out or give up on becoming a Chuunin, and the latter was not really an option. So, the young Shibasaki clansman took some deep breaths in order to try to calm down and gain some focus, and with his heart rate a bit down and with some extra oxygen heading towards his brain, Jun finally was able to put his mind to work in a plan.
The young Genin knew that his best shot was to use his doujutsu, the Tengan, to cheat… but his flaming eyes weren’t exactly the most discreet doujutsu and activating it, even its first stage thar was less flashy, would call the attention of the proctors and he would be kicked out. But Jun remembered that there was a male bathroom in the room right next the examination one, so he could use it perhaps. But who in that classroom would be smart enough to know the answers to that nearly impossible questions so Jun could copy? He looked around the room once again to analyze the environment, and luckily for him, he located a potential target: Mizunu Takemo, a nerdy guy from his time at the academy. He was a very bad Shinobi when it came to fighting or casting jutsus, but indeed he was a little genius and Jun could see that he was writing without stopping in his exam, as if the tough questions did not bothered him at all.
So it was time to do his move. The young genin first raised his hand and asked to go to the bathroom. Soon, a tall, gray-haired proctor approached and told Jun he would escort and keep an eye on him. He stood up and walked towards the door, with the proctor closely following him. He left the room and entered the bathroom next door. He made his way to a few bathroom stalls and quickly closed the door behind him, saying he had a stomach ache. Jun then dropped his pants and sat on the toilet, as if he were going to do number 2. The proctor even looked over the bathroom stall to check Jun, but when he saw the young man with his pants down and sitting on the throne, he gave up to watch him.
This was his opportunity. Jun placed his hands over his eye, to block the glare emitted by the Tengan, and activated its first stage, which was more discreet. With his visual prowess, he was able to see through his own hand and the bathroom’s wall right into the exam room. He quickly remembered where Mizunu Takemu was seating and focused his sight on him. He carefully focused into the paper that the nerdy boy was writing on, and Jun could see the cold ink over the paper he was holding in place (and thus was warmer), being able to clearly read what he wrote under the impossible questions. Using his privileged memory, Jun was able to memorize most of the answers, and so it was time to return to the exam room. He flushed the toilet to pretend he had done something and opened the bathroom stall door, washed his hands and walked back to the classroom, now quite calm as he now had most of the answers. Jun just wrote the same stuff that Mizunu Takemu did on his exam and after finishing it, handled the exam to a proctor and left the room, quite calm and confident that he would pass the exam.”
Scenario without using abilities: “Jun decided to keep his values intact and therefore rejected the idea of cheating on the exam. But there was a problem: he still had no idea on how to answer this questions. So, he only had one thing to do: fill the answers with tons of bullshit, so perhaps the examiners would think he actually tried to answer something or maybe they would be so tired of reading so many words and would just let it go. Therefore, Jun began to write and write and write non-stop, placing many words that actually meant and said nothing side by side, making outrageously long paragraphs and filling all the exam paper of tons and tons of empty words. Besides from this last part, Jun answered everything correctly so maybe he wouldn’t fail for not answering right the tough part. He kept writing and writing and writing, even asking for an extra piece of paper for one of the proctors, who seemed impressed. When the ticking clock was signaling that there were 5 minutes remaining and most of the participants were either ejected or finished the exam, Jun finally handled his own test to the proctors, containing two full pages of bullshitting where the answers for the hard questions should be. Well, the only thing left for the young Shibasaki clansman to do now was to hope to be approved…”
