An Anomaly in Nature! [C-Rank Mission]

Mission Details:

A small, quaint, woodman's hut sat in the shade of a far off mountain. This hut neighbored a small forest village. More often than not, the family and this village shared a quiet coexistence. Yet, that was about, or had already, changed.

One could see the signs immediately, as they left the outskirts of Haven Village proper and made their way on the footpaths that led to the near isolated hamlet and cabin. If one had a keen eye, would would see strange warpings, cuts, and grooves in some trees, parts of the grounds, and a few leave floating in the wind. If one were more of the observant type, they would would catch intentional markings in some of the unwarped trees, like those a pack of animals would use to mark their territory.

Monsoon Uchiha would not be one of these observant types. Having been tasked by Zraix Hoshimura with a joint mission, he had taken it upon himself to "scout ahead" before their appointed meeting time. During this time, he had already identified the cabin that housed the child of note, and would already be interviewing the parents and child, to gather all necessary details to give to his First once he arrived.

Upon the ronin arriving at the hamlet, the residents, upon seeing his blades and robes, would point him toward the isolated woodsman's cabin. After walking from the hamlet to the cabin, he would come upon the rustic, dark wooded porch. As he took his first step, his sqaudmate, Monsoon Uchiha, having just finished conducting his preliminary interviews, would be stepping out of the home and onto the porch. The martial artist's eyes would catch the ronin's, Monsoon would pause, not expecting the timing to work out like it did. He would then smile and wave.

"Ah, Zraix, I've got my report ready."

Monsoon, draped in his usual indigo silk robe, would wait to hear instructions from his shinobi of higher rank. Once requested, Monsoon would give his report.

"Our intel team was not as accurate as we hoped, the child in question is not a problem, nor will they be a factor in this mission. The father, a woodsman of a refined nature I though not possible, gave me a pleasant greeting. His son, an odd sort, was....excitable to say the least. To be honest, it took quite some time to get him to a point of calm to actually understand what it was he was saying! This lad, Dexter, is an academy student. His father says he is getting the highest marks in his medical classes, which is where, it seems, the problem arises. In some harebrained scheme to accomplish the best science project, Dexter concocted a sort of...experimental....'tonic'?" Monsoon's flips through pages of notes, "I apologize, he called it many things... ah, 'the best way to describe it would be a liquid food pill of similar strength to the Akimichi clan, with the addidtve of not boosting power but bestowing power.' When asked what sort of power Dexter could not give an answer, as he had not progressed to that stage of testing. Which leaves us now with the problem at hand. Apparently, the solution requires...uh....'solar oxidation to triangulate the inheritors superposition', which meant leaving it out in the sun for eight hours at a time. Two weeks ago, the solution was gone, stolen, I presume by the local fauna as I was told it was fruit scented."

Monsoon, having finished going through his notes, closes the journal and hangs it on his hip.

"Lines up with the reports of chakra beasts that started 12 days ago, though still no concrete idea of what to expect. Any ideas?"

Zraix would take his time with arriving at the rendezvous location with his partner Monsoon and he did this mainly to give the young Uchiha a chance to do the bulk of the recon for the mission they were about to undertake. In truth, he had already gained a bit of intel on this case by himself and had a solid idea of what was going on but he wanted to see what information Monsoon had managed to gather as well.

He would approach at the hamlet and was greeted by villagers who directed him to the position of his fellow shinobi who seemed to be deep in thought at the moment- he noticed the Hoshimura's approach and acknowledged him immediately before disclosing the report he had drafted on the contents of the mission.
Beginning with the incompetency of their intel team, an ongoing phenomenon that was nothing short of expected at this point (for lower ranked missions) Zraix would sigh and palm his forehead as he listened to the report drafted in full and to his delight it seemed the two of their reports matched up perfectly.

"Hmm. I would say the whole situation is a bit strange. A serum goes "missing" and all of a sudden we have beasts with abnormal abilities resembling that of chakra based talents." He would pause, right hand placed under his chin before continuing "The boy knows less than we would have hoped and created something much more powerful than he understands and i'm willing to bet much like you think there's a direct correlation between this missing serum and these beasts. The only question is, where to find them both." Resting his hands on the hilts of his katana to his left and his wakizashi on his right he would scan the area for any obvious clues. Unfortunately, he would see nothing in his immediate line of sight and this would cause him to shrug his shoulders before returning his vision to his partner."So we have very little to go off of and we dont have any leads."

Walking past his partner he would step into the cabin and signal for the Uchiha to follow him, waiting for him to do so before pressing forward. Inside, it appeared to be a normal home for the most part but on the ceilings and walls there were cylindrical metal beams bolted and strange greenery draped in between them. He would continue to walk until he came to a staircase that led up to the two rooms on the second level, clearly one was the father's and the other the little chemist. Walking into the room of the boy scientist, Zraix would take note of two cages about 5x5 feet in the corner of the room with little beds in them and banana peels thrown about across the floor- the boy had beakers and test tubes littered on his desk accompanied by unidentified liquids of varying colors. "I feel like anything we touch in here will grow us an extra limb" he said as he laughed and continued to inspect the room.

He stopped as he noticed the window in the boy's room was wide open, the wind from outside rushing in and blowing his curtains left and right- what was even more strange was the two cages in the corners of the room were locked shut but there were tiny foot prints that led from the outside of them to the window. "Monsoon, come take a look at this. Do you see these prints? I want you to take a look at them with your sharingan. Im starting to get a weird feeling about all of this.." He said as he turned to his partner, hoping his visual prowess would illuminate some of the darkness that shrouded this mystery.

Monsoon Uchiha would do as El Primo ordered, without hesitation. He would walk toward the flowing curtains, staring at the windowsill. The colors of his dark brown eyes would drain and be replaced by a flowing, glowing scarlet. His pupils would morph, casting a dark wheel around itself and shrinking to form a pinprick of black in a sea of red. The black wheel would spin around the center pupil, so fast that it would seem to shave off sections of itself: forming into three-tomoe resting on a thin ring.

The matured pinwheel eyes of Monsoon Uchiha would spin, lock, and re-lock as the shinobi who possessed them began to perceive information at a caliber the genin had not experienced before. He would blink, overwhelmed, as he himself was unaware of the ability his recent experiences had granted him. He eyes would dart to Zraix,  as if to almost anchor himself in this new world of perception. Having seen the ronin with his two-tomoe before, the martial artist believed he would gleam the reason for this intense and sensational development. Once gazing upon Aegon, Monsoon gained his understanding.

Where before, the Uchiha could not understand the physical power of the Hoshimura, he could now. Movements whose existence were hidden to him, the unconscious muscle twitches, micro movements, and autonomic spasms that indicate a breathing, thinking, living soul, was missed by Monsoon when first they met. Yet now, they were there, in front of his eyes and plain as day. For a moment, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan would burn it 's scarlet gaze into the soul of Zraix, analyzing the nature of his being and the possibility of his actions.  

Without a word, Monsoon's sharingan would dart about the room, between the metal beams, the peels, the footprints, the windowsill, and the table that lay on the table that spawned the problem at hand. In the two cages, he would see traces of a semi translucent aura around the peels and bars, and note the unmarred lock on the doors.  His eyes would dart to the footprints and see that same translucent aura surrounding the paws and finger. This aura would end five meters away from the windowsill, and appear only on the edge closest to the inside of the room. Movement caught his eye, something faint seemed to visibly waft from the beakers, it was formless, yet had density and grabbed the Uchiha's attention. Monsoon walked to the table and grabbed a pair of tweezers that lay near the table. He used them to lift the beaker from its holder, to get a closer look at the faint substance. To Monsoon's surprise, the wafted cloud did not trail behind the beaker while it was lifted, but stayed in its "wafted" position. Upon seeing this, Monsoon would go to the open window, explaining his findings to El Primo.

"I believe this to be part of the 'serum' in question, perhaps it was used to mix the ingredients. If what the boy said is true...then..." at this, Monsoon would hold the empty beaker in the sunlight that shined from the open window. In front of his eyes, the formless cloud shifted, as if activated by the presence of the sun's rays. It would radiate an aura around the beaker and at the tips of the tweezers, in that same, translucent way seen around the prints and in the cages. "Eureka! Though I'm not sure to what exact nature, I can tell that this beaker contains remnants of chakra. Chakra that is also visible in the cages, on the floor, and on the windowsill. Curiously, the trail stops at the windowsill. Here is my hypothesis, Aegon. Through unknown means, the animals in these cages obtained an 'activated' serum. Once ingested, these animals, through some chakra based means granted by the serum, escaped their confines without breaking the lock, 'skipping' from the cage to the floor. They then walked toward the windowsill, while influenced by said chakra. They then crawled up and opened the window. They did not use chakra to open the window, as they are no signs of it, except on the edge. Which would mean...."

By now, Monsoon would have already returned the empty beaker and the tweezers to their rightful place and have returned at the windowsill, staring at the forest that lay beyond.

"Under the influence of chakra, they "skipped" out of the room and into the forest. To be honest, 5 or 6 meters might be an inaccurate estimate. Considering the presence of chakra, as it is weeks old, its safe to say that we're looking at a maximum range closer to 40 meters."

Monsoon jumps on the windowsill and turns his head, eyes Zraix with his scarlet stare.

"I believe we should move in lines of 30 meters. If these beasts can "skip" distances in some ways, they would more than likely continue using them until they found a suitable territory. Considering the size of the cages, I don't foresee us encountering more than two creatures. But, who knows what this serum could've done to their biology..."

On Zraix's command, Monsoon would leap from the open window of the two story home, 30 meters forward, trailing behind El Primo. Considering the difference in their speed, Monsoon would hope Zraix would not leave him in the dust.

After reaching a 30 meter point away from the home, Monsoon would wait for Zraix to order a sweep of the surroundings. Once given, he would scan the area and spot a translucent mark near the branches of a tree. He would point, stating the next direction they should choose to travel.

He would follow Zraix's lead and wait for his order to investigate after traveling 30 meters. He would note more, vibrant indications of the translucent aura. He would mutter, "Not their nest, but perhaps a spot that sees travel..."

Monsoon would look to the ground, and a troubling scowl would wash over his face. He would see the aura, and also many more pairs of footprints. Since they were in the dirt, their size and shape were east to discern. Monsoon would discern the general direction the prints were coming from, and relayed this information to Zraix.

While traveling these 30 meters, the signs of chakra would be visible even to those without chakra based doujutsu. The trees would be warped and formed in crude shapes, like some wild facsimile of urban office space. Great grooves and holes would be carved in the ground, emanating that same translucent aura. Yet, these grooves were not ragged, or rough, but smooth, as if something "scooped" the material out of them, and deposited them in some unknown space. Monsoon's scowl darkened, the size of the grooves indicated a formidable power.

After reaching 30 meters, Monsoon would pause at Zraix's order. Monsoon would scan the area, spotting the tell tale signs of frequent chakra use interspersed with fruit and banana peels littering the forest floor. He would note that the trees each had a breadth of seven meters, their roots creating a natural space for each plant to grow.

Monsoon would look up, to the tree line, and spot a glowing mass of translucent chakra. On a branch, in a tree about 15 meters away from Monsoon's position, was a spider monkey about one meter in height, munching on a strawberry almost as big as its head. As it felt Monsoon's stare, the blue furred primate would stop eating and stare at the shinobi, cocking its head in curiosity. It would then lift its tail, revealing its length of 5 meters. At this sight, as if forgetting the situation he was in, Monsoon would turn to Zraix to announce,

"Ah! Aegon, I figured out how these animals grabbed the Serum. Dexter must've misjudged the dexterity of their tails and-" Monsoon's words would be abruptly cut off as he turned back to the branch. To his surprise, the monkey was gone! The only traces left were a piece of strawberry that lay on the ground. He would scan the surroundings, yet would see no sign of the blue spider monkey.

"Zraix....it's gone!"

Despite Monsoon's newly acquired sharingan, his doujutsu could not gleam any insight as to where the monkey may have gone.

"This can't be sensory jutsu...there is no way an animal could achieve a level of invisibility that the sharingan could not discern...El Primo, what do you suggest we do?

Without hesitation or words Monsoon made his way to the window in order to examine the ground near it- Zraix was sure that some sort of clur would be revealed once the Uchiha was able to analyze the area surrounding the window with his doujutsu but was unaware of the advancements that his comrade had made in their time apart. To his surprise, the young but clearly capable shinobi had ascended to the next level in his ocular development- the Hoshimura looked on in awe and pride as he saw the third and final tomoe of the legendary Sharingan placed amongst the other two in such a fashion that they triangulated his pupil. "Well well well. It looks like you finally decided to put some effort into those eyes of yours. I bet everything i'm saying almost seems like its coming out in slow motion. Or maybe that your ears are lagging behind what your very eyes are perceiving."

He would pause with his arms crossed as he watched Monsoon scan the room, searching for any other clues as to what might have occurred and where the beasts to whom these cages belonged could have disappeared to. He watched as he examined a beaker for some time before giving a thorough explanation of his thoughts on what the substance was and what may have happened in regards to the apes. "So.. you believe that these animals managed to get their paws on this serum that holds properties allowing for chakra based "Skipping" around. Namely, the ability to bypass physical obstacles.." With his left hand now under his chin he pondered the thought while simultaneously noting the drastic increase in recon ability showcased by Monsoon. His eyes would widen as he slowly began to connect the dots as to what this "skipping" ability might be mirroring in terms of actual shinobi prowess and he couldnt help but shake the thought that this phenomenon seemed eerily similar to a movement technique that had been utilized by members of his clan. "Secondo, lets take this investigation forward and head from this window out towards the neighboring forest. Use your sharingan to point me in the direction that the chakra is most dense. Ill Take it from there."

Zraix would lead their advance 30 meters towards the chakra trail left behind by the beasts until they eventually came to their destination- he would do well to keep at a slowed pace ensuring that his comrade would be able to keep up easily enough seeing as they were not in a rush. Upon their arrival Monsoon would continue his investigation, moving closer and closer until he halted their progress and pointed in the direction of one of the apes. Sporting blue fur the beast sat as it cheerfully pecked away at a massive strawberry- that is until it noticed the presence of the two shinobi.

Monsoon would begin to explain his theory of how the monkey came into possession of the chakra serum but before he could finish his thought the animal vanished, leaving behind not even particle of chakra to trace. A childlike smile of joy painted the face of Zraix Hoshimura as he maintained his focus on the location the ape had disappeared from "You looked away for just a moment so you didnt quite see it but the way that monkey "Skipped" as weve been calling it, was very interesting."
In the short moment that the Uchiha averted his eyes the chimp's very being began to warp in a spherical fashion, staring first at its head, paws and tail disappearing until finally the distortion worked its way inward leaving nothing behind. "Its just a hunch but I think I know how it managed to do that, though im still baffled that a young boy could create such a powerful serum."

Closing his eyes and taking in a deep breath Aegon would clap his hands together carefully kneading chakra that he had gathered up from all over his body and concentrating it to the point of his eyes- he would grit his teeth in concentration as he struggled for a moment and beads of sweat dropped from his brow down past his chin. The static air would be replaced by a flowing wind as he released all the tension from his shoulders, back and arms, allowing his hands to separate and come back down to his sides- he would smirk before opening his eyes revealing a pastel red sclera circled by a blackened outer lining, all of which accompanied soft white bush like strokes that formed the pattern of a lotus flower and, at the center gleamed an amber pupil. "I've been waiting to try this out. You're the first to see it in practice ,Secondo." He said as he turned his vision to the burly Uchiha. Upon doing so, he would see a vibrant and volcanic aura surrounding the shinobi along with being able to see his chakra flow- Zraix recognized this immediately as the manifestation of fire and Monsoon's ability to utilize it.

Looking back in the direction of the ape Zraix could now see the reddish outline of it moving about and swinging from branch to branch but, what was truly interesting was that he was joined by another ape of equal size also reddish and blurred. With this new development all would become clear to the Hoshimura, "Listen up Monsoon. I can see our two little friends fairly well now and I believe that with our eyes working together we can capture them. I just need you to follow my direction as I call out to you where they are and to use just enough of your raw strength to knock them unconscious." Aegon knew that Monsoon was their best bet at bringing the animals back to their home alive as his own offensive skillset was more suited for permanently dispatching of foes or at the very least gravely injuring them. "So, are you ready?"

As Aegon made his explanation and commented on Monsoon's looking away of the monkey, the Uchiha noticed a strange disturbance in the Hoshimura's chakra. In the ronin's core, chakra was kneaded, compacted, and condensed: its product flowed toward his eyes. The presence of this chakra and flow was tangible as a uncharitably calm expression muted the face of Zraix. Behind his lids, Monsoon saw the kneaded chakra condense further, to a point that it became nigh translucent. As if some tumble was finally turned, the chakra flow ended, and Monsoon was buffeted by a wave of power that emanated from Primo. As the ronin's eyes opened, Monsoon stared into two lotus flowers on ponds as red as the setting sun. Upon Zraix's announcement, the Uchiha came to understand what he gazed upon, the gift of the ronin's blood, his clan's heritage, the Kenseigan.

For a moment, the always analyzing tomoe scanned the features of the ronin's lotus eyes, almost marveling at the way its shape could see. This moment passed as Primo gave Monsoon his orders. When asked if he was ready, the Uchiha walked 8 meters away from Zraix, acknowledging his command with a nod, rolling of shoulders, and a cracking of his neck.

Monsoon slid his arms out of his indigo sleeves, letting them drape on his waste and exposing his muscled form. He would inhale slowly, letting the action expand his diaphragm. In the next moment, Monsoon would exhale all his breath at once, the action would energize his muscles and expand his form slightly, signaling that he was ready to move at his full strength. His raw physical power steamed off him in a white aura, as reality strained to contain the extreme strength of Monsoon Uchiha.

"Primo, I will be drawing their attention by using an intimidating display. Please tell me when to strike. I will move at the moment your voice is heard."

And, like a mad gorilla, he would beat his chest, his own durability allowing him to withstand the forceful blows he gave himself. The sheer display of strength would buffet the surrounding greenery, and more than likely anger the monkeys. After doing this, Monsoon would slide his feet shoulder width apart, and place his right leg in front of his left. His knees would bend, and he would rest more of his weight on his back leg. His arms would be raised in a similar fashion, with open palms facing outward. His back muscles would tense, giving one the impression of a gunspring being cocked: ready to fire at a general's command.

Moments would pass, Monsoon would stay focused. Suddenly,

"Secondo, 11:30, 70 degrees!"

With the horizontal position given through time and the vertical position given by degrees, the Uchiha knew precisely where to strike. As he was utilizing his fighting style, he would be striking at a speed of 150. As well, given the direction, he would use his left arm to strike, meaning the space time monkey would only have one attempt to react. However, he was conscious of the goals of his mission, and would be only dealing 25 impact damage, more than enough to knock out the meter sized monkey.

Monsoon would use his open palm to slice at the commanded direction, at a left-to-right diagonal. He expected to come into contact with fur, flesh, and bone. Yet, to his surprise, nothing connected. Yet, his eyes suddenly picked up on a disturbance of chakra in the area just near where he attempted to strike. This chakra disturbance held that same translucent quality that the uchiha beheld in the beaker in the young scientist's room, and the genin knew that this disturbance of chakra was a space/time influenced monkey. However, in the corners of his right eye, a similar disturbance appeared, followed by a massive, thunderous blow to Monsoon's midsection.

Because the Uchiha was caught unawares, and was striking at a strength that was not at his peak, he was unable to withstand the momentum that came with the blow. As such, he was launched 7 meters in a direction to his left by a blow and dealt 75 damage, away from the two disturbances. He rolled on the ground and caught himself in a crouch, with his back against a tree. He returned his gaze forward, and saw a 10 meter "scrape" in the ground, with the area he was just standing being the only solid piece in the length of the carved out earth. Secondo looked to Primo, whose lotus eyes stay locked in the space near the scrape.

"You were correct, but the monkey dodged." The ronin smirked and tapped his forehead, "However, did you also catch it? Or do you need it explained?"

Monsoon smirked and relaxed out of his battle stance, He turned to face the tree, "No, just tell me what they're doing now."

The Uchiha could almost feel the smirk radiating from Zraix, "Currently? They're celebrating their victory over you."

Monsoon would sigh, "Great...I'm going to try something different. Inform me when they are 3 meters away."

Unlike before, to aggravate and attract the space time monkeys, Monsoon would howl, his strength giving his voice the presence of a beast demanding retribution. No doubt, the sound would enrage and frighten the primates, so Monsoon would continue with his plan.

Monsoon, while facing the tree, would squat and wrap his hands around its trunk, digging his fingers into the bark to create an improvised grip, crushing the wood with a Jotun Grip. He would be utilizing his full 150 strength. As his attention would be focused on the tree, he would be detailing continues impact damage. Because the space time monkeys would be cautious in their approach, no doubt to his display and the fact he survived their scraping ability, he would have ample time to continue damaging the tree, allowing for his next maneuver.

As he was squatting, and as he was gripping the tree, he would his his his legs to push upwards in a standing position. The tree, being rooted to the ground, would not budge at first. However, in short moments, the sounds of earth being disturbed and wood creaking would rumble around the clearing. Monsoon's aura would flare, the effort utilize his entire being. And, he would ready himself for his next action.

At Primo's command, when the location of the space time monkey would be at a distance three meters behind Monsoon, the Uchiha would stand to his full height, ripping the tree out of the ground with roots in tact and hoisting it high at 150 speed. He would turn, swinging the improvised blunted weapon behind him at 150 speed. By then, accounting for the movement of the Monkeys, the targets would be 1 meter away from Monsoon. Because of the width of the tree trunk, even a sudden change in aerial orientation would not allow them to evade the attack. As such, after Monsoon swiped behind him with the torn out tree, he would drop it, letting it thud on the earth, as he needed his hands free for his next strike.

As he expected, with no other way to evade the blunt swipe, the Monkeys flared their chakra for a quick evade, which meant they phased or "skiped" through solid objects. However, after doing so, they would momentarily need to appear in real space, though cloaked in chakra: the translucent disturbance Monsoon has seen prior. Thus, when seeing the floating chakra distortions, Monsoon, having been using his Jotun grip in both hands,  thrusted his arms forward and grabbed the disturbances, this time feeling fur and flesh, connecting with an animals neck. As the power of the technique was much greater than the strength of the monkeys, the would be unable to move or act.

Monsoon would apply just enough strength to pacify the primates, gently, yet forcibly. not using the ability to crush or tear: instead using the 100 power of the technique to overpower the will of the monkey. As the apes began to lose consciousness, they fully appeared in real space, and Monsoon held two knocked out, blue fired spider monkeys in his hand.  

Monsoon raised up his quarry, to the delight of Primo. Together, they returned the animals to the young scientist, Dexter, and told him of their findings. With this knowledge, Dexter was able to craft a cage that allowed the monkeys to explore the range of their newfound world while being safely contained in their master's home.
