Substitute Teacher: The Basics

Mission:

The bright sun of Otogakure shone brightly through the window on the face of the young Uchiha who was still sleeping. The red haired Uchiha woke up with sleep in his eyes. He wiped both of his eyes and from his bed he could feel the extreme heat of the weather. It wasn't a great morning to start off with, but still the young Uchiha had to rank up soon. His ambition to join the Sound Ninja 5, the elite group of shinobi of his village and to be the Otokage's bodyguard gave him the motivation to get up from his bed. When the young Genin completed the required amount of missions, he would be considered for the Chunin Exam, which wasn't far away. The young aspiring Genin took a cold shower to wash off the heat from his body. As he was showering, he thought of a good idea to take whatever mission he can from the Mission Board and complete it efficiently but this time he wanted to take a mission from the C Rank to fulfill the necessary official requirements that could make him rise in rank. After taking his shower, he started drying himself and wrapped the bath towel around his waist. He walked towards his window and opened it vertically. He could see the grounds of his village releasing a small amount of heatwave.

Just as he was watching this scenery, he could hear the sharp sound of a bird, more like a hawk. He looked up in the sky and saw a hawk flying towards the house of the young Uchiha. The young Uchiha wasn't sure why the hawk zoomed in on the Genin. Hanzo squinted his eyes to focus on the bird and could see a small scroll tied around his left leg. He instantly knew that it was a messenger hawk and not a wild species. He placed his left hand on the window still to support himself and raised his right hand outside the window. The hawk gracefully landed on his hand. The young Uchiha then proceeded to untie the scroll attached to its left leg and raised his right hand upwards for the hawk to fly off. He wasn't sure who would have sent him a message. He opened the scroll and began scanning through it. Due to the extreme weather of his village, a teacher in the academy has taken a leave of absence hence they requested Hanzo to be a substitute teacher to guide some academy students. Hanzo felt delighted and appreciated that his efforts were being recognized.

The red haired Uchiha changed into his daily attire that consisted of his sentimental purple scarf that was given to him by his mother shortly before her death. The young Uchiha wanted to teach the students ninjutsu, thus he removed the Tanto from his back middle shoulder and left it on his table. Hanzo was excited about the opportunity of being a substitute teacher and training the future generations of Otogakure. Hanzo closed the door of his house and left towards the streets. As he was walking, "What kind of training should I teach the students?" he thought to himself. The Genin started formulating a schedule in his head. Firstly, he will teach them the Surface Walking Technique to help with walking tough surfaces. Secondly, he will teach the Substitution Technique to help with evading attacks. Thirdly, he will teach the Clone Technique to improvise any strategies during a battle. Lastly, he will teach the Transformation Technique to evade presence and create disguises. He was just 20 meters away from the academy entrance. He felt nostalgic and remembered his time during his academy tenure. He gave a smile as he took his first step into the academy as a substitute teacher. He went to the general office and took his class information from the administrator. He then proceeded to walk towards his class. He felt anxious and wondered if he could teach the students properly.

He stood right outside the class door and knocked twice. He opened the door by sliding it to the left and upon the action, a duster nearly fell upon his head but the young Uchiha evaded it by simply tilting his head. "Looks like we have a prankster among our group" Hanzo said while laughing. He walked up to the chalk board and began writing down the timetable of techniques that would be taught upon later. The young Uchiha, now the substitute teacher, began explaining to the class about the four techniques. "Surface Walking Technique! This surface walking technique is a very useful technique to learn that you can use on a daily basis. By siphoning your chakra into either your feet or hands, you can cling on to a surface. Take note that this surface walking technique works on solid surfaces such as walls, trees or bodies of water". Hanzo began to siphon his chakra into his feet and walked on the wall. The students were in awe of the demonstration. "This is how you do the Surface Walking Technique!" he exclaimed and got down to the ground. He ordered three of the students in the class to perform the same technique and they did it successfully in their first try. The young Uchiha crossed the technique name on the board with his chalk.

"Now, let's move onto the Substitution Technique!" as Hanzo pointed towards the technique name on the board. "Shinobi's that possess the substitution technique may select any one object within their range of sight to take on an illusory image of the user but cannot independently move from its position and when struck by an attack, the illusion will disperse into its original form". Hanzo paused for a moment to let the information sink into the students who were looking confused. Hanzo performed the hand signs Tiger > Boar > Ox > Dog and Snake and substituted himself with a chair. He threw a senbon towards the wall in an angle to ricochet it towards himself. As the senbon hit him, the illusion dispersed in a puff of smoke and revealed its true nature. "Alright, let's have another group of students perform the same technique, come on and let's give it a try!" Hanzo ordered another group of three students to perform the said technique. Though the three students initially had some troubles, with Hanzo's guidance, they managed to acquire the technique. The young Uchiha crossed the technique name on the board with his chalk.

"The next technique is called the Clone Technique!" as Hanzo pointed towards the technique name on the board. "This clone technique is quite famous and used in different variants and styles. The clone technique creates an identical copy of the user as informed by the name of the technique. This copy has no substance of any kind, it is simply a projection. Some can create more clones than others, it all depends on how much chakra you have within yourself. Those with elemental specialties, they can make elemental clones. But as of now, let's start with the basics". Hanzo performed the Ram hand sign and initiated the Clone Technique and with a puff of smoke a clone of Hanzo was right beside him. The students started cheering and clapping as they were excited to use this technique. "Alright students, now I want everyone to perform the clone technique. Stay where you are and perform the technique and I should see a clone beside everyone!" Hanzo commanded the future generations. All of them except for one student had some trouble as his clone was on the ground and wobbly. Hanzo walked up to that student. The young Uchiha proceeded to personally guide him for a few more minutes and made the student acquire the technique.

"The last technique we are going to learn for the day is called the Transformation Technique!" as Hanzo pointed towards the technique name on the board. "This transformation technique has a lot of creative potential to trick someone. Any ninja that performs this technique, has the ability to transform themselves in any way shape or form, whether another person, plant, animal, or inanimate object. This transformation technique is usually performed for stealth reasons as ninja don't want to be found especially during a covert mission". Hanzo paused for a moment to let the students understand his speech. Hanzo performed the Dog hand sign and initiated the technique to transform into one of his student. Once again, the students in his class clapped for the young Uchiha. "Everyone please stand in line and I want everyone to use the technique and transform into my image!" Hanzo ordered the class. One by one the students performed the transformation technique in sequence and turned into the image of Hanzo in front of him. Almost everyone made it except for another student which the young Uchiha guided for a bit until the student managed to acquire the said technique.

As the sky was turning dark, the class was ending soon as well. "Okay students, I thank you for being such wonderful students. I want everyone to know that all of you are the future generations of Otogakure, our beloved village. We should all get stronger together and protect our village and its people. I hope everyone has learnt something valuable today. Thank you everyone!" Hanzo bowed in respect to the students. The young Uchiha opened the door to let the students out. The Genin wiped the board with the duster he held on his right hand and left towards the general office. Once inside, he informed the administrator on his teaching report and techniques taught. The administrators were very happy with Hanzo's class and praised him for his effort. The young Uchiha conveyed his gratitude for recognizing his talent and for nominating him for the substitute teacher position. The Administrator gave the young Uchiha an envelope that was filled with cash and Hanzo thanked the administrator before leaving home. Hanzo walked out the front door of the academy feeling accomplished and delighted. As he was walking back home, he wondered if the academy would ever call him back again for another substitute class teaching. Hanzo actually liked that he was mentoring his juniors, it gave him a sense of belonging especially since he doesn’t have many people to interact with, thus treating his villagers like a family would.

He finally reached his home and stood directly in front of it. From all the sound of laughter and clapping he was now in the presence of dead silence. As he touched the doorknob with his right hand, there was no one waiting for him inside. He had a brief moment of flashbacks of his mother calling his name from inside the house while he was outside playing with marbles. Young Hanzo runs towards his mother and his mother holding him and carrying him towards the sky as they both laugh. As the thunder roars, the scene cuts back to his drunken father storming in front of his house. The laughter turns into fear, the mother and child hiding in a corner of the house. The usual situation whenever his father’s presence is felt. Hanzo hates his father who makes his mother tremble whenever his father enters the house. But after a tragic incident that changed his fate, the house has always been quiet. He turned the doorknob clockwise, opened the door and went inside. It was just plain darkness, then he turned on the light switch which brightened the house. The young Uchiha was raging in fury, he wanted to kill his father. He needed more power in order to find his father and to kill him with the same black flame technique. He walked towards the shrine of his mother and stood in front of her portrait. He never forgot his hatred, it was only the beginning of his journey of life. “I’ll avenge you and will kill him!” Hanzo loudly while looking at the portrait of his mother.
