Shiro’s eyes focused on his sister's proclamation that she wasn’t focused. Focus, something every shinobi needed. Focus, something that he didn’t have in the fight against Akabyashi. He wasn’t focused. It made him stare blankly at his sister. Knowing fully well that focus would lead to her death on the battlefield. Yet in the end it didn’t really matter to scold his sister in front of all of the student body. They’d learn to be focused by her outburst and her near death. Yet he couldn’t help but feel anger at his sister's proclamation of being unfocused in a fight. She had made so many mistakes in this one battle. Rushing forwards when he had fired a blast of kinetic energy. Not being able to block or defend herself. What did he do wrong? Was he making the same mistakes as his own teacher? Yet she is trying to seem more, trying to put on a show of trying to be helpful while imparting some knowledge of being a shinobi. Of anticipation of something hidden within the enemies own confines. Yet she should have known that he was wearing armor. . . For someone that had a Byakugan, she was blind when it came to combat.
He didn’t even register the fact that she had called him Big Brother. His eyes staring with disappointment at Izu’s abilities. She should have done better, she was better than that. Yet instead she was talking about owing her 2 senbon because he had broken them in an attack against her. At least she could admit that her showing wasn’t good enough, it wouldn’t be good enough. She reminded him too much of himself. That young boy who was learning how to fully wield a sword. The young man who was the Mizukage of the village for a short time. The one that wasn’t good enough. He was spared from death, spared from the thoughts of his two that he failed in protection.
Moku beaming at him did not keep his mind from the fact that his sister had done so poorly. He was happy however on one thing, that the children were actively engaged in the fighting. One way to keep kids attention is to see first hand what combat even was. Yet Reizo’s admittance made him slightly surprised. Perhaps the students wouldn’t have been as engaged if Reizo had been the one to fight. He would have shown better capabilities, yet he also would not have the same connections that Izu had in the academy. He didn’t really know what to think, was Reizo truly correct on Izu and his battle being more engaging. . . Or was he just saying this to help with Izu’s own pride? Reizo's own visions did not help him, his mind suddenly clouded by the visions of a fiery beast before him. The two tails were defeated by Reizo and a mysterious individual that were high fiving each other. Shiro’s own mind trying to think of what to show for Reizo, yet nothing could be shown without making him even more upset.
His thoughts clouded his mind before Izu had seemingly pulled him to the side to discuss something important. His eyes still held that slight stare of disappointment. That stare that showed a sibling disapproving of their younger ones actions. Yet her sudden admission of how she needed that kind of lesson. That she needed to be shown that she was a small fish in a massive ocean. There was a small pang of guilt. His face relaxed, softened considerably while she spoke about how she saw him as a Big Brother more now. How she wanted to talk, talk more about their lives, about their father. . . His eyes softened even more. Noting her shy tone, the way she seemed almost embarrassed to talk to him like this.
Yet that small hug, it almost shattered the previous kage. His glass house is now being seen for the first time in so long. The warmth of feeling someone he knew, someone he cherished hugging him. A family member holding him close. His body was shaking, he didn’t know what to do. Eyes only staring back at her before awkwardly nodding his head in approval of the action. Of everything that Shiro could feel. The sinking feeling that was deep in his body was beginning to lessen. He had friends, a teacher, a guard, a friend. Yet now he had so much more. His students, Reizo, the teachers, everyone seemed to think of him as more than the failed 6th Mizukage.
He wouldn’t mind those same mistakes as before.
“Yeah, I’d love to do that, thank you for that as well Izu.”
With that he saw her run off, his own hands shaking from the sudden feeling of guilt deep in his core. He didn’t hug her back. . .
He’d rectify it soon enough, now where to find a good place for Senbon?
