Maintaining History

- Mission:
It was about to be a pleasant summer morning. The air still carried the coolness of the night, and Botso was enjoying himself, sitting on a rooftop in Konoha, watching the sun slowly turn the night's blue into intense azure. Suddenly, he heard voices coming from a nearby square, and curious, he decided to go and see where they were coming from. But when he arrived, there was no one there anymore, and he noticed a flyer hanging on a wall. He jumped down to read it.
The flyer was a message from the Hokage, asking for the restoration of a informational board placed at the entrance of the village. Botso was familiar with that; it had intrigued him since the first time he saw it: a large rectangular stone slab, as tall as two grown men, now covered with overgrown plants, making it impossible to read what was written on it. It was an opportunity to learn more about the Hidden Leaf Village and do a small service to the community. Moreover, it was a request from the Hokage himself, and the young Uzumaki didn't want to miss the chance.
When Botso arrived at the village entrance, the enormous gate was closed, and not many people were around. With confidence, he headed towards what looked like a huge rectangle covered in overgrown weeds. He was surprised by the amount of leaves covering it, but he didn't let it discourage him and began analyzing the challenge that awaited him. After circling the slab, he noticed that the plants had completely enveloped it, making it impossible to even tell its color.
Climbing up, Botso started tearing off the branches, starting from the top. It took him the whole morning, but he managed to bring the tablet back to light. He still needed much more time to finish, but it was lunchtime, and Botso was not very keen on skipping meals. So, he decided to take a break and ate while sitting in the shade of the slab. He was curious to discover what was written on it, and as soon as he finished, he got back to work.
Finally, in the late afternoon, he started to see the first letters. The major part of the overgrowth had been removed, and some words were becoming visible here and there. 'At least the plants have preserved the inscriptions on this stone intact,' he thought as he carefully cleaned the well-crafted characters on that huge rock. His eyes sparkled with curiosity as they moved from one ideogram to another. Slowly and persistently, Botso learned the story about the origins of Konoha. The stone bore the names of the first seven Hokage, and he was surprised to find out that the last one belonged to his own clan.
Botso laughed and turned to observe the enormous stone faces that overlooked Konoha. "Now I can call you by name", he thought, chuckling.
The stone also bore the seals and names of the founding clans, along with the ideals and values on which the Hidden Leaf Village was built.
With respect and delicacy, Botso cleaned those names and words from years of roots and shadows until they were well cleaned and legible. He felt enriched internally and, perhaps for the first time since his mother had passed away, proud of himself: he had learned some very interesting things about the history of his village and had rendered a service to his community.
