Arriving at the meeting point, Kana let out a small sigh at the dreaded tea shop, she had actually done this mission herself back when she was in the academy and from what she remembered it had sucked trying to balance all the tea sets while making her way through the crowds and while she could probably just wash her hands from this and say she was going to supervise whoever the academy sent her way like Kanako had, she somehow doubted that would set a good example for the brat nor look good to the higher ups. At least this time, Kana would be better prepared and would only have to ensure the academy kid didn't fuck things up for them.

Strands of Hanako's dark hair danced across her face as she hurried along the road toward the tea shop. She had a list of errands that she'd been assigned to today, and the tea shop was her first stop. It was an off day from her academy lessons, but the students were sometimes assigned these supplementary tasks, both to foster a sense of cooperation among the village residents and to give the students necessary experience in how missions would operate once they became full fledged shinobi. Today was actually her first time getting an assignment, and she was determined to do it well - but that meant that she couldn't be late. Thankfully, the tea shop came into view just as she rounded the corner, and she made it to the front door with a few minutes to spare.
Hanako panted softly for a moment while she adjusted and straightened her beige kimono, her breath steadying as she brushed the long strands of hair from her face, revealing deep purple eyes that seemed to possess immense focus as they appraised the girl who stood waiting outside the shop. Her eyes flickered to the various scars that adorned the girl's body, then to her short and unkempt hair, and finally to the large scar on her face, lingering there for a moment before finally meeting the girl's eyes. She was similar to Hanako in size, only slightly taller. It made Hanako wonder whether they might be similar in age as well, though it was clear that this girl was already a Genin. She was certain that she'd been assigned to help Hanako complete her assignments. Hanako bowed her head lightly in greeting, looking rather polite and composed for a girl who was only ten.
"Good morning," she said quietly, though not so quiet that she wouldn't be heard. "My name is Hanako Senju. I am a student at the academy, and I've been assigned to work here today. I appreciate your assistance."

Kana didn't have to wait too long for the little brat to arrive, the girl seemed to be a bit shorter than herself and looked quite young, probably a few years younger than herself if she had to guess, most kids her age had long since outgrown her meager height and for a moment the two only seemed to eye the other, Kana sizing up the academy student to figure out how much she could probably carry while the brat was probably checking out her scar. Most people are drawn to her scar when they first see her, she barely even cared about it until some poor bleeding heart decided that what Kana needed the most was pity for the scar, as if them feeling bad would somehow help Kana in some way shape or form, all it really did was earn them an eyeroll and her distaste.
The brat was small, skinny and looked almost delicate with quite the fancy little kimono compared to Kana's own plain purple dress, if Kana had met her over in the academy she was sure she would've hated her guts and as the girl introduced herself as Hanako Senju, she knew she would've despised her back in the academy, her appearance and name would've been enough to earn Kana's distaste due to her old misguided attempt to prove herself as a kunoichi. Thankfully by now, Kana had mellowed out and dove into her work to prove herself rather than attacking fellow shinobi, besides she now had Gunshin by her side and that was more than enough for her in terms of acceptance from her peers.
"Good morning, I'm Kana. I'll be making sure you don't fuck things up and lending a hand as needed." Kana replied to the girl with a simple nod of her head, she was more than used to the quiet and meek types, Gunshin still didn't quite break out of her little shell despite Kana's best efforts but she was getting better and Kana learnt to be more patient when dealing with them. "Come on, we'll grab the packages and start delivering them. Carry what you think you can, I'll grab the rest. Don't push yourself either, these things are expensive and I'll tell you right now, it won't be my pay being docked." Kana declared as she begun to make her way into the tea shop, content to let the girl follow after her so the duo can begin gathering the various packages that contained tea sets, different types of teas and a bunch of other tea related objects that Kana didn't care to know the details about.

Hanako met Kana with a perplexed gaze when the girl spoke to her with such vulgar language. 'That really wasn't necessary,' she thought, but she said nothing as Kana proceeded to lead her inside. Once there, she saw stacks of crates ready and waiting for them, quickly understanding what she would need to do. Wandering over, Hanako tested the weight of one of the crates, estimating it to be about 15 kilograms. She was sure she could lift several of them, but as for carrying them around, she couldn't guarantee how long that stamina would last. She also had to consider the bulk of the stack, and how well she would be able to balance it. In the end, she decided on carrying a stack of three crates, standing off to the side so that Kana could grab her share.
"Where are we going first?" she then asked, eager to get the task underway so that they could finish quickly. If she recalled correctly, first they would need to deliver these tea crates, and then they would need to report to an elderly couples house to help with their garden. After that, it would be the village daycare center, where they would have to take over for a couple of hours while the usual attendants were away. Hanako created a mental checklist in her mind, lining up her tasks in a row so that she could remember them later.

As the duo entered the tea shop, Kana looked over the crates that they'd be delivering throughout the village, her mind already pathing out a path that they could take to make it a quick and easy delivery without a lot of backtracking before stepping aside to allow Hanako to decide how much she could comfortably carry toward their intended location. Kana stood nearby watching with crossed arms as the brat picked up a lone crate and judging the weight in her arms before picking up another two crates to carry, leaving Kana was the other five crates to carry around. Three crates wasn't so bad, although Hanako was probably selling herself short but it wasn't like Kana could prove it nor did it really matter to her, there was two of them for a reason and as the older one between the two, she was probably the strongest so she picked up the five remaining crates with relative ease before leading the brat out of the shop and back onto the streets of the village, Hanako asking about the location of the deliveries as they exited, a hint of eagerness in her voice.
"Lucky for us a majority of the stops are here in the Yaezakura District, only two places are over in the Shidarezakura District, which is where we'll be going first. Our next job is not too far from one of the places we're delivering a crate to here in the Yaezakura District, so that place will be last." Kana answered easily, leading the apparently eager little brat over toward the shinobi housing district to deliver one of the crates to the Asami clan compound while the next one would be delivered toward the a small tea shop near the center of the district. "You're lucky you know, last time I had to deliver tea the village was packed like hell." Kana would comment as they made their way through the streets, the fact that there wasn't as much people both pleased her and annoyed her, it meant they didn't have to push and shout for people to make way but the fact that she didn't get this lucky the first time was just a bit annoying.
At least that also meant they could get this job done easier and faster, sure enough after only a few minutes of walking through the village they begun to approach the Asami clan compound and Kana looked over her crates quickly, a number stamped on the side of the boxes had told her which ones were going where. "Alright Hanako, seems you got the lucky number 3. Knock on the door and give it to whoever opens it, they should be expecting us." Kana spoke loud enough for her to hear, gesturing with her head to enter the Asami's compound, a place Kana never really been to before nor did she really know much about this clan beyond the fact that it was one of the clans that had been here since the village's founding.

"Shidarezakura?" Hanako repeated, nodding her head. "That's the district where I live, so I'm familiar with the area." Even so, only Kana seemed to know exactly which houses they would be delivering to, so Hanako followed behind her until she was given instruction. The young girl peered around her stack of boxes, keeping an eye on the streets and where they were going. The roads looked no more busy than any usual day, which meant that they were nice and slow. It was something that Hanako appreciated about life here; it was generally simple and quiet, allowing one the freedom to relax and go at their own pace. The prevalence of tea ceremonies was a testament to that, she thought. Such activities allowed the population the opportunity to live mindfully and presently in each moment. She heard Kana speak about her own experiences with delivering the tea crates, and imagining these streets so bustling and busy made her eyebrows raise. 'Well,' she thought, 'I suppose it can't be like this all the time.'
When they arrived at the entrance to the Asami compound, Hanako observed the house nearest to them on the corner. When Kana gave her the instructions, she nodded and carried the crates to the front steps, setting them down carefully by the porch before raising her hand and knocking on the frame gently. It wasn't a moment before the door slid open to reveal an elderly woman, and Hanako smiled and bowed. "Good morning, Asami-san. I've brought your tea delivery," she announced, bending down and picking up the crate with the large number 3 stamped on the side. "Oh, how lovely!" the old woman said, moving aside while Hanako slid off her sandals and carried the box inside for her, setting it down gently on a table before returning outside and waving as the old woman closed the door. Donning her sandals once more, Hanako picked up her remaining two crates and rejoined Kana at the gate.
The girls would continue this way until all of the boxes had been delivered, and when the final parcel was dropped off, Hanako would turn to Kana again. "It's gardening next," she recalled, pressing a finger to her lips. "For the Yamada's. I think they also live on this road." She turned her head left and right, starting to walk in the latter direction after a moment's contemplation. She was sure that she had seen a name plate outside one of the houses this way that said 'Yamada'. It wasn't long until she found it, and waved Kana over. "Here it is!" she announced, stepping past the front gate and taking a long look at the front garden. It was indeed quite overgrown, with weeds, flowers and herbs all intermixed and very much in need of tending. It was lucky for Hanako that she quite enjoyed gardening, so the work at least wouldn't feel too cumbersome. Stepping up to the front door, Hanako gave a gentle knock, waiting to see who would answer.

The two worked in relative silence for the rest of the journey, Kana didn't have anything to say to Hanako, nor did she have anything to say to her in return, instead the two just delivered the tea as instructed as they dropped off the final crate to some old lady's house, Kana let out a small sigh of relief, the crates were starting to get a bit annoying to carry around for so long. She listened with half an ear as Hanako recited the next mission and it's location, pleased that she wouldn't have to repeat herself for the little brat and instead she watched as Hanako lead them toward the Yamada's residence, a name that Kana didn't particularly care to remember but she knew that the house they were looking at was the correct one, she had made it a personal goal of hers to remember the locations she was supposed to be going without much care for the names of the locations. Kana stood back and watched as Hanako took charge, stepping forward to knock at the person's door and the duo waited a short moment before an old lady just barely taller than the two of them finally answered, her skin was saggy, she had a cane and walked with a hunched over back yet welcomed the two young girls with a warm smile.
"Oh, you two must be the kunoichis sent to help with the garden. I apologize for the sad state of our garden, my dear husband is usually the one who tends to it but he had recently fallen ill so I've been taking care of him." The old lady rambled on with an apologetic smile as she hobbled her way just slightly back into her house and reached up for something near the end of the entryway of her home, returning with a small key in hand. "The gardening tools are in the back, in our shed. Here's the key to it, none of the produce should be ready for harvesting but a few of them might've died in our absence. We got a compost bin just right besides the bin so you can just dispose of the dead plants there." She explained as she handed the key over to Hanako, Kana already moving ahead to the back to wait there, content to let the brat handle talking with the old lady who had seemed nice enough but something about being around old people made Kana a bit uneasy, her last encounter with the elderly had been the one who had taken care of her for a short while before dying of old age and leaving Kana to fend for herself after her caretaker's family refused to house the young orphan.
"So, you ever garden before? All I really know how to do is take out weeds and water plants." Kana would ask as soon as Hanako reunited with her, letting the brat open the shed that had housed the gardening tools, Kana quickly grabbing a pair of admittedly oversized gloves for herself while handing Hanako the smaller pair of gloves, probably the old lady's gloves if she had to guess. She'd then go about grabbing whatever she felt she would need while listening to and watching Hanako as she grabbed her own stuff from the shed, trying her best to match what Kana realized was the more experienced gardener between the two, something that made sense considering her clan's whole bloodline. She would probably have to listen to the brat if she wanted to get this done quickly, she seemed to know what she was doing and Kana wasn't so stubborn or stupid to ignore that experience gap. "I'll be following your lead here since you seem to know what you're doing, always remember just because you have higher rank doesn't mean you know everything." Kana declared as the duo exited the shed with tools in hand, adding on some little bit of her own wisdom onto the girl but she somehow doubted Hanako would be so vain or stubborn to think she would know better than others, if anything the girl was probably more like Gunshin and too meek to take charge if needed, alas it wasn't exactly her problem.

Hanako smiled politely as the old woman handed her the keys to the shed. "Don't worry obaa-san, we'll make your garden look great," she said with confidence, bowing as the old woman closed the door. She then made her way over to the shed where Kana was waiting, and stepped past her to fit the key into the lock and get the door open. Inside the shed was dark and musty, but it didn't seem like anything would be too hard to find. Taking the gloves from Kana, she slid them onto her hands. They were still a bit large for a child, but they would do.
Hearing that Kana had limited experience with gardening, Hanako nodded her head before pulling a long white ribbon out from the folds of her kimono, using it to pull her long sleeves back and passing it around her back in a criss-cross shape before securing it with a small knot near her shoulder. "Right, we need a spade and a hand rake, to start. That way we can dig up any dead plants, and also transfer any live ones that we want to keep to new beds without damaging the root system. We can use the hand rake to till the soil of the beds we are transferring to, to make them ready to accept new plants. Roots have an easier time spreading and growing in soil that's not too compacted," she explained, her gaze unwavering as she watched Kana to make sure she understood. She passed Kana one of each of the tools that she described, along with taking a pair for herself.
Once they were kitted up, she led Kana out into the garden, where she pointed out the different beds. "You can see a flower bed here, an herb bed there and a vegetable bed beside it. But do you see how the plants have overgrown into the grass?" She indicated the mass of flowers, herbs, and weeds that were scattered about the garden in odd places. "We need to clean up the beds, but also transfer any stray plants back where they belong. It's important when we're doing this not to mistake any herbs for weeds. This one, for example," she said, going to a spot in the grass and crouching down near a bristly looking plant. "This is Horsetail, a powerful medicinal herb that can improve symptoms of memory loss due to old age, inhibit cancer cell growth, strengthen bones and nails, and even promote hair growth. But it's commonly mistaken for a weed, because of it appearance." Hanako smiled as she stroked the fronds of the plant gently, before moving to the herb bed.
"You can take the flower bed, Kana-senpai, since those plants are easier to tell apart. Go ahead and pull up any thin, wispy plants that don't look like they belong with the flowers. I'll work on the herb garden, and then we can do the vegetables together." Once she was sure Kana understood the assignment, she would turn her attention to the herbs, her eyes focused as she expertly plucked the weeds that were hidden amongst them and added them to a pile beside her. The sun shone warmly as she worked diligently, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow. Once all of the weeds were removed, she tilled any open spots in the soil before turning to the rest of the garden and spotting out any herbs that were hiding there. She would then wander over to each one and dig it up carefully, returning as many as she could to the bed with the rest of the herbs. She would do the same with the flowers, if Kana needed help.
Once those two beds were finished, Hanako turned her attention to the vegetable bed. "You can tell which plants are dead by looking at the leaves and stalks," she said, pointing out one that looked dry and blackened. "This one is dead and should be dug up. But this one," she said, pointing out some leaves that were a bit yellowed and limp. "This one still has a bit of life left in it, and can probably recover if it's tended to properly." Once Kana understood, she would get to work pulling up any weeds and dead produce that needed getting rid of, adding them to the rest of her pile. It didn't look like any produce was growing where it didn't belong, so no transfers would need to be made, but she tilled the open spots in the soil, thinking that the roots might be happier.
Once the vegetable garden was tended, Hanako went to work pulling up the rest of the weeds from among the grass. "If we don't get these ones as well, they will continue to spread into the beds," she explained, taking her time to carefully find as many weeds as she could. When the garden was clear, she picked up her now rather sizeable pile of garden waste and carried it to the compost bin, dropping it in and sighing wearily, wiping her brow again. But when she saw the state of the garden, now so clean and organized, she couldn't help but smile. "There's only one step left," she said, going back to the shed and pulling out two watering pails, holding one out to Kana. Then she went to the tap to fill it while she explained further.
"Watch how I water them," she said as she took her pail over to the flower bed and started pouring the water gently, down low near the soil. She watched as the soil drank up the water slowly at first, then more quickly as it became rehydrated. "You want to make sure the roots have plenty to drink, but you don't want to flood them. The soil should be nice and damp by the time you're finished, but you shouldn't be able to see any water left on the surface. If it looks more like mud than wet soil, then you've overwatered." Standing up, she offered Kana a small smile of encouragement before going over to the herb bed to continue watering.
Once they were finished, Hanako returned all of the equipment to the shed and locked it up, before finally going back to the front door of the house and knocking gently. Her face was a bit damp now, and there were smudges of soil on her kimono, but she didn't mind. She would hand the keys back to the old woman when she opened the door, hoping that Mrs. Yamada would approve of their work.

"This one still has a bit of life left in it, and can probably recover if it's tended to properly." Re: The Genin and Academy Student [P]

Kana had to admit, she was impressed with the brat's extensive knowledge on the various plants, she was certain that she'd have fucked up somewhere along the way if she was made to do this job solo, especially that Horsetail herb Hanako pointed out, Kana would've plucked that thing without a second's thought about it since it really did look like a worthless weed despite it's supposed medicinal benefits. Kana always knew she should be learning more about herbs and whatnot, as someone focusing on the medical aspect of the shinobi career people would probably be shocked that Kana knew next to nothing about actually using plants and whatnot to help heal people, instead her entire medical knowledge was centered around healing via chakra and nothing else. Maybe it was something she should look into fixing eventually, the brat might actually be pretty helpful in that regard as she went about teaching Kana how to do the basics of gardening, Kana even was willing to remain quiet about the whole sensei thing for the time being to let the girl continue to pass on whatever knowledge about gardening she could, she didn't want to risk interrupting and getting the girl to shut down just yet.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Kana agreed with a simple nod as she set about to work on the flower garden, a far easier prospect for her than trying to decipher if it was a herb she was about to pull or if that a weed that she was about to leave alone, she worked in silence, both of the girls engrossed in their work, Hanako likely because she just enjoyed gardening since she knew so much about it while Kana was just focused on not fucking up, working carefully to remove the right plants and weeds while leaving the flowers to grow in peace, she probably made a few minor mistakes but she was sure it wasn't anything that would be too damaging. Eventually the two finished working the garden, Hanako passing on more helpful tips on what to do and how to do it with Kana just following along with the brat's suggestions, obviously between the two Hanako knew what she was doing while Kana wouldn't have have done even half as good as the brat did if they were forced to do this job solo.
"Good work Hanako, I'll make sure your teacher knows how helpful you were in this mission in particular. You might just have yourself a career as a medic if you keep up your gardening skills." Kana would praise the girl with a simple nod toward her, looking over the finished garden with a pleased smile, the thought of Hanako becoming a medic would probably fit right in, but then again she could hardly judge personalities and specialization types, if anything Kana should've been the more aggressive fighter between her and Gunshin, yet Kana focused more on healing and supporting her friend while her meek friend was the stronger between the two. She watched as Hanako went up to the old lady's door once more, knocking and waiting for the owner to come hobbling her way back while Kana stood near the entryway to the couple's home, looking around and waiting for Hanako to finish up.
"Oh thank you two so much! The garden looks absolutely stunning, and you two worked so fast, I was a bit worried I'd have to come help." The old lady opened the door with a wide smile on her face, overjoyed to see her garden in such a pristine state without even having to provide any instructions to the duo, although that was entirely thanks to Hanako if Kana was being honest, she was liable to damage the garden more than actually help it. "Thank you once again, it truly means a lot for us to see our garden so well taken care of, I hope you two have a wonderful rest of your day." The old lady's gratitude was palpable to Kana even from afar and she fought back the small blush that threatened to consume her face, it wasn't that big of a deal, it was just a simple job that they've been paid to do.
By the time Hanako returned the key and returned to her side, Kana was ready to go onto the next mission already, the last one for the day if she recalled correctly and it was more simple in nature, at least on paper anyways but Kana was pretty sure that Hanako was going to know what to do more than her when it came to taking care of babies. She was a medic, yes, but she was a combat medic and focused more on fighting and perfecting jutsu to support Gunshin rather than taking care of others, let alone taking care of babies. "Alright, now we just gotta go watch over some brats and make sure they don't get themselves killed. After that, you'll be free to go and I'll file away the report for your teacher and the higher ups." Kana explained as she lead her brat over to the day care center, part of her already dreading having to deal with the babies that would be crying loudly for one thing or another, making it the world's most annoying guessing game.

Hanako smiled proudly when the old woman praised their work. "We were glad to help," she assured Mrs. Yamada, before handing back the key and saying goodbye. Rejoining Kana at the gate, the two girls began walking in the direction of the daycare, Hanako keeping pace beside the older girl although her thoughts wandered back to something Kana had said earlier. "Do you really think I could be a medic?" she asked, tilting her head to look at Kana with a probing gaze. "I've heard about medical specialists at the academy, and how important they are to keeping our fighting shinobi fit and healthy... even saving lives," she said, with a deep respect in her voice. "I'd like to be someone like that, someday... I haven't learned any medical ninjutsu yet, but I've studied medicinal herbs and fungi, and... once I graduate, I want to dedicate myself to learning the healing arts." There was no question in her voice, and her once probing eyes now carried the sharp glint of determination.
It didn't take the girls long to reach the daycare, and once there two women came out to meet them. "Oh, thank goodness you've arrived just in time! We have to be off now, the ceremony won't wait! We've left instructions on the desk, all of the children should be picked up in a couple of hours. Thanks so much!" Hanako barely had time to process what the women had said before they were gone, and she just stared after them for a moment, blinking silently. Just then, a loud wailing sounded from inside, and Hanako's eyes snapped back to the building. "Right.. Let's see what we have, then," she said, marching ahead and through the short gate that kept all the children inside.
Scattered across the room were children of varying ages, from about one to four years old if Hanako had to guess. The room was separated into an area for suited for infants and toddlers, and another side that had play equipment set up for the slightly older children. The wailing, Hanako noticed, had come from a three year old boy with curly blonde hair, who sat sniveling in the middle of the floor. Her brows furrowed, Hanako crouched down in front of him. "What's the matter?" she asked kindly, and the boy wailed again. "T-Toshi s-stole my t-truck!!!" The boy called Toshi stood a few feet away, glaring at the blonde kid and clutching a red firetruck to his chest. "It's not just yours, you have to share!" "N-nuh uh, it's mine!!" Sighing a bit, Hanako pinched the bridge of her nose, then glanced at the truck the boy was holding. Squinting, she could just make out something written on the side. "Ha-Ru-To" she read out loud, glancing to the blonde boy.
"Is your name Haruto?" she asked, and the boy nodded with a wet snivel. "Right, I see what happened. Toshi, Haruto brought that truck from home, that means it's his and you can't play with it unless he says so. You need to give it back now." Toshi just stuck out his tongue and jeered. Hanako's brow twitched. She walked silently over to Toshi, who began to look slightly nervous. Her gaze leveled with his, and she didn't blink. She just stared at him, her eyebrow twitching threateningly. Toshi fidgeted for a moment, before finally thrusting the truck into Hanako's hands. "Fine!" he shouted, and ran off to go and play with a group of boys. Sighing, Hanako shook her head a little, then returned to Haruto and handed him the truck. "And Haruto... there are plenty of toys already here for you to play with. You should leave your own toys at home, that way no one will fight over them." She watched the boy sternly for a moment, then smiled and patted his head.
The afternoon went on fairly smoothly after that. Hanako read the list, and was able to give everyone a snack and even got them to lay down for a short nap before the parents started coming to pick them up, one by one. When the two hours were up, the day care attendants returned. "Thank you so much for watching them, I hope they weren't too much trouble," one said, and Hanako shook her head. "Not at all," she reassured them, bowing lightly before heading out. Once outside, she turned to Kana, giving her a small bow in turn. "Thank you for helping me today, Kana-senpai. I learned a lot. Maybe we'll see each other again soon," she added, before smiling quietly. She knew that soon enough she'd be graduating from the academy, and then she'd be a proper shinobi, and learn medical jutsu and be able to go on real missions. She'd do her very best to protect her teammates, then, and everyone else in the Sakuragakure village. She would be the best medical specialist that the world had ever seen.
