In the past, it was said that dozens of Chinoike had served as lords in the centuries since they came into power, and all had done an admirable job—truly, it was as if they were bred to conquer and to lead, as they were, with few exceptions, handsome, smart, fierce, and fair. But their customs were… strange. Their beliefs were said to be both mystical and archaic. Odd rituals were an essential part of both their beliefs and their rise to power, and they had become odder still when fused with the spiritual practices of those around them.
Akaime knew they were a peculiar race—known for their unnatural beauty and their ability to command blood. Centuries ago, many compared them to gods, it was how they came into power—when the woman married the Land of Lightning’s daimyō. People were quite willing to look up to them. After all, they were very capable. It seemed so.
As time went on, they were reduced to a number of fugitives and wanderers, nearly going extinct. The once great clan fell like all those who have raised up to greatness. Jealousy and fear were their downfall. Even after they began to repopulate, they had no shortage of shortcomings; something the Akaime could attest to as he saw the slaughter with his own eyes. Although, he did somewhat understand why people would fear them. Manipulating the very life-force of a human and their proximity with Lord Jashin could drive those ignorant to do horrible things that they have yet to do, but he digresses.
Who needs a history lesson by what Akaime essentially believes? No one does, right.
A warm feeling soon found its way to his face. The initial heat brought awareness to the soft hand, but it soon evaporated with a feeling of contentment. It was like a spark of electricity, but not the one where you get those strange feelings in your abdomen of romance. Instead, it was more of familiarity and comfort. It was intoxicating, so much so that it continued to draw him even further than had already fallen into this woman. Something that he thought he lost but now that it's so very close, it seems that all his independence began to disappear. The tear that cascaded down his cheek was wiped away by her soothing hand. He did not care how pathetic it was, he just hoped that she realized that he was being sincere with his grand gesture.
Looking up, with the support of her hand, she spoke once again offering solace and clarity. She wished he wouldn't follow her but instead, stand beside her. It was a sincere consolation that she graced upon him while he expressed a sense of shock. Eyes opening wide and trembling fingertips took hold. All that has ever been wanted from him is to be a weapon with no emotions or convictions. That is not what she wanted. She would rather have him support her as an equal instead of bending a knee in unquestionable faith.
“I…do not know what to say,” Akaime spoke while he took his time to slowly rise, “I thank you for your great hospitality and all the things you offer.” His gaze wandered from the sitting Tsukikage to the clear glass panels that provided a monumental view of the world below. His features fell into a gentle expression as the high-noon sun rained down its ultraviolet waves on all the prospects of the village, illuminating its equanimity upon the horizon.
Turning from the window, he found his way back to his seat and placed himself within it. “There is also a request I wish to run by you, and I will understand if you are hesitant and wish not to allow it. But I have a few traveling companions still located in the realm of keys. A woman, a child, and a man who communicates with the dead. They are weak in comparison to us and pose no threat. They escaped dangerous and famish lifestyles, but I think they would make great additions to your village. They are trustworthy, and their potential is absolute.” Akaime said before pausing a brief moment, “so, what say you.”

Her eyes followed him as he slowly rose from his kneeling position, she remained silent, allowing him to fully digest the words she had said. As he thanked her, Junko waved her hand slightly and shook her head, indicating that it was truly no trouble to offer him anything. They were kin after all, and though they didn’t know each other too deeply, the bond their blood provided was more than enough for her to justify letting him into her life. Her gaze lingered on him as he shifted his attention to the village below, a moment of silence hung in the air between them.
She didn’t push him to speak, and to her, the silence wasn’t awkward. From what she knew of him, he had been through turmoil, so she was sure he needed a moment to think. Before long, he’d return to the seat in front of her, and Junko oriented herself to face him once more. A small smirk crossed her lips as he mentioned that he had a request, though she wouldn’t interrupt him. He explained that he had friends still outside of the village, located in Keys. She folded her hands in her lap as she listened, nodding along with him, indicating he had her full attention. Continuing on, he mentioned 3 others, a man, a woman, and a child who had each seen their fair share of turmoil. He then explained that he wished for them to be able to stay in the village, adding that he believed they would be beneficial to have on board.
As he asked what she thought, Junko paused for a moment contemplating her next words. Though she was quick to trust him, it was difficult to do so for others. However, if he trusted them, she believed it best to allow them to come.
”I think that’s a wonderful idea, I’m more than happy to allow others in, especially if it’ll make you feel more at ease.” Her voice was warm as she spoke, though as she continued, a bit of coldness crept in. ”Though if they cause any issues, I request that you deal with it swiftly so there won't be any problems between the two of us. We have a pretty lax set of laws, so I’m sure it’ll be fine after all.”
If he agreed Junko clapped her hands lightly before quickly standing from behind her desk. Her melodic voice returned to its normal warmth, as she started speaking excitedly once more.
”For now though, let's take a walk around the tower. We’ll pick out a room for you and get a pass for you so you’ll easily be able to move through the village as you see fit. I only request that you notify me if you choose to leave”
Moving to his side, Junko offered him her arm with an inviting smile. If he decided to take it, she’d rest her opposite hand on his arm and pat it reassuringly. Should he agree to take a walk around the tower to find himself a new room, she’d lead him out of the office and down to the floor below. As they walked, she maintained a pleasant conversation, hoping it’d help him begin to feel more at home.
