The mist was heavy in the air today, more than usual it seemed to Menma as he locked his apartment door behind him. It was a strange day that's for sure, the first day at the Academy. He was a little older than most the others in his class, but the last year had been rough with the loss of his father. He was alone now and signing up for class was quite the task for someone who never has had to do the job of a guardian. Strolling through the streets of Kirigakure in the dark early morning as he approached and entered the large academy building, making his way to the class room and taking a seat in the back. The lights were dim and the room was empty upon arrival, though the room began to crowd slowly as the morning progressed towards the early day.
A white haired man with bandages covering from his mouth down his neck, effectively hiding his lips began to speak "Welcome to the start of the Ninja World, it is not for everyone..." the pause long enough for him to quickly pass around a paper with the following questions;
• Who are you?
• Why you are at the Academy?
• What you wish to learn?
• Why should we invest in you?
• Who are the Hunter Nin?
• Why you are at the Academy?
• What you wish to learn?
• Why should we invest in you?
• Who are the Hunter Nin?
He made his way to the front of the room once again, his back still to the children as he stood between them and his desk. "So here is all I want for day one..." despite the wrapping it could be seen that he smirked as he turned to face the class slowly, "Fill out the form and turn it in." He paused as his eyes skimmed the room like a hawk seeking a field mouse, the sounds of the others laughing and making fun of such a 'waste' of a full day with something this menial of a task. "I know how hard can it really be to turn in a paper.." he chuckled to himself for a brief second "I mean all you have to do is set it right on my desk... Without getting caught by me."
Silence fell across the room as the children's laughs and taunts turned to sweat and gulps of rising anxiety, Menma smirked as his eyes looked down at the paper. His pencil in hand he figured step one would be to just fill out the paper, afterwards it would be a game of cat and mouse. He would need an opportunity and wouldn't get one til the others began trying too. So he began;
Who are you?: Menma Uzumaki
Why you are at the Academy?: I am here to start my journey to becoming a ninja of legend in the Mist.
What you wish to learn?: I wish to learn the basics of being a shinobi, from there I'll exceed expectation.
Why should we invest in you?: As I said, I will be a legend. That I swear.
Who are the Hunter Nin?: These ninja are tasked with retrieving or silencing missing ninja of the Mist, to keep our secrets safe and ensure we gain any knowledge these ninja may have that could hinder our village.
'Damn, that was easy. Now its just time to wait, I have to choose the perfect mome-' Menma's thoughts were interrupted by the scream of the first victim, looking up Menma seen as they were screams of terror as the instructor was standing in a low stance behind him. The sharp kunai pressed ever so lightly against the classmates throat, his sweat running from the point of contact down the blade. "Too bad, you're dead. Better luck next year." Menma kind of lift his body, his eyes began to show his surprise at the words... 'Next... YEAR? Is he failing people for getting caught!? Damn, I will not wait another year.' He looked at the desk, there were already two papers. 'WHEN!?!' he was baffled by this, who could have made it? he wondered as he began waiting for the next victim to perhaps make a scene.
It seemed like forever had passed as one after another failed in the attempt, Menma saw many try using others as a distraction but fail each time. One kid fainted when the instructor threw a kunai pinning his shirt to the wall, the kid was still hanging there unconscious but Menma knew there would be a moment. A way to do this would present itself eventually. Then in an instant it happened, one kid had started sneaking down the stairs to the desk. The instructor seemed to vanish and appear in front of him, the moment he vanished another kid on the same side of the room jumped to his feet to run for the desk. The instructor turned his head just enough, 'A blind spot!' Menma quickly leaped over the railing to his right and landed on the floor like a feather on the floor below, his was now on the same floor as the desk however, he had to now not get caught sneaking to the desk itself. He waited patiently, the instructor cleared his throat "You guys are making this too easy... his footsteps stopped "You really think I didn't see you!?" Menma took in a breathe as he knew his time had come, til he heard the instructors feet landing at the far back corner. Across the room from Menma, the teacher began to monologue as he lifted this kid from the floor by his collar. Menma began to move getting closer to the desk, he could almost reach it when his instinct told him 'Hide, NOW!' So he quickly slipped between the wall and a cabinet, barely fitting and focusing on controlling his breathe to nearly stop breathing at all. The instructor was standing almost next to him, turning his back to look at the remaining three students. "Well if you can't sneak, what about speed? Anyone? I only said don't let me catch you, right?" One of the other kids jumped to his feet with the paper in hand, only to be caught after his first step. The instructor began laughing out loud, commenting on the stupidity of the kid thinking he could out run a chunin. Menma folded the paper as quick as he could making a paper shuriken, then stepped from his hiding spot throwing the shuriken on the desk. 'I MADE IT! burst into his mind as he began to smile, the instructor appeared in front of his lifting him off his feet. "Caught you!" Menma kept his smirk as he slipped out his words, "Actually sensei, you failed. I've already got my intel to the desk, you caught a man after it was too late." The instructor chuckled and placed him back on the floor "Very well, you are right. In this situation you died for your mission, but the mission was completed. You pass."
Menma left having completed his first day, a smile on his face as he made his way home. He remarked as the day came to an end "One step closer to my goal."
