Oda made his way into town and towards the Training Academy. Today he was tasked with displaying some of his skills and explaining his job as a shinobi of the village. He made sure to give himself some time for some meditation at his favorite reading spot before finding himself in front of the training academy. He was here well before his appointed time, but for matters such as this he liked to be early. As he sat in the academy he watched as other shinobi showed up for the same purpose. They all seemed to have different specialties, until eventually every specialty was represented by the shinobi that stood in front of the academy. Gradually, some more people poured out of the academy and began assisting with booths in case people needed them.
He denied a booth, already a plan forming on how he wished to go about his lesson for that day. He practiced his whistling and one handed signs as much as possible and made sure to grab an appropriate amount of Affinity slips for his students. Affinity slips were a fun game that Oda liked to use to get people involved. They were small slips of paper that when held and focused on, could change according to the person's elemental affinity. For fun, Oda grabbed a few and tried focusing on the different elements that he knew he had control over. One turned wet from his water affinity, another turned slightly dusty- no doubt his trace affinity for earth, another burned up quickly and turned to ashes- representing his fire affinity. And yet still, another one turned hot as magma before solidifying into volcanic rock. The final one was interesting to Oda as he hadn’t seen it yet, the paper took on a very damp and hot feel to it, as if being steamed. He smiled, satisfied at the presence of the new Boil release.
Eventually students of various ages began trickling towards the academy. Oda held up a small sign indicating he was to be teaching Ninjutsu today. He was eager for students but happy to see that many went to more niche specialties such as sensory or Bukijutsu. Ninjutsu was powerful, but it was a swiss army knife, and even Oda was begining to become curious in other specialties he could study.
Regardless, that would have to come later, for now Oda had accrued quite a big crowd of people. He wasn’t surprised, ninjutsu was often the most sought after. He smiled at the people as they gathered near, giving a big thumbs up once the group had been formed. His eyes lit up as he saw two familiar faces. “Oh my is that Aya!?” He said with a smile on his face, next to her was her sister, a ninja headband proudly displayed on her arm, and her parents. They all smiled at Oda and made some small talk briefly. He thanked them for coming and gave the family some Affinity slips. He proceeded to pass out the affinity slips to everyone before returning to the front.
“Ok people! Before we make our little trip I wanted to have us start off the same way many people who study ninjutsu start off.” He held up his hand with an Affinity slip. “With these!” He said enthusiastically.
He proceeded to explain how to use them, and demonstrated with his own fire affinity. The onlookers oohed and aahed but Oda made sure to emphasize that everyone has an affinity within them. The look of joy on their faces as the slips of paper started changing in reaction to their chakra was pure joy for Oda, and he genuinely enjoyed teaching them about their affinities.
He answered any questions they might have, before returning to the front and announcing they would be headed to Shinoda Springs.
“The second stage of a ninjutsu practitioner's life starts here!” He said as they reached the springs. “Every good shinobi will eventually find themselves on these grounds, practicing, honing their skill. Ninjutsu is a broad art, but it is only through mastery that it can be effective.” He positioned himself at the center of one of the stages. “Now, if you will remain behind that line, I will show you the power of the fire release!” He gave a big smile and proceeded to show them some various techniques. The Fire Dragon Bullet, which he explained was effective for damaging and putting the pressure on for a longer period. He showed the Hiding in Fire technique, which he explained was an excellent way to defend oneself against an enemy's own fire jutsu.
He also briefly explained the general role of a shinobi within Tsukigakure. He explained how they fight to defend the village, yes, but they also help with everyday needs. They aid the village in their efforts to better themselves and better the land around them. And, they aid in keeping the village operating within the harmony of the land. It was important to Oda to stress to them that while yes they were soldiers, they were tasked with so many more beneficial things. He could hear his own insecurities about his position as a shinobi, so he quickly ended it there and moved on to more jutsu to teach. He also showed them a few water techniques that he had only just recently learned himself. Finally, he ended the showing with a simple candle light jutsu. He could see the confusion on their faces as he showed them the simple technique.
“I know what you’re thinking, ‘Oda, why would I care about something small like this?’ “ Oda said as he walked around the group. “Well its simple, ninjutsu isn’t about doing the strongest thing all the time, it isn’t about have the best tool, its about having the right tool. Sometimes, all a person needs is a simple light. And sometimes, they need an inferno.” He finished his display with a rapid firing of his Great Dragon Fire Technique. Spraying the spheres of flame up into the sky and exploding them in a shower of sparks and flame that drifted harmlessly overhead.
He thanked the group for their cooperation and gave them all a small card with a thankyou from the Ninja Academy followed by some sign-up instructions if people wanted to. He would stay around shortly and answer any questions, talking briefly with Aya and her family and encouraging the bigger sister to continue her ninjutsu studies.
Oda made his way back home with a profound sense of accomplishment. He could care less about the extra ryo in his pocket, he was just happy to have hopefully inspired some of the younger shinobi to train hard and value the right things about being a shinobi. His sleep was peaceful and restful that night, and Oda woke up the next day still smiling from pride at a job well done.
