“ODDAAAAAAA!!!” A piercing yell interrupted Oda's deep slumber, he rolled over in surprise, falling out of his bed. Quickly throwing on his clothes he ran out of his apartment towards the emergency. At the bottom of his stairs was his neighbor, equipped with a badminton racket and swiping at frogs which were invading her garden. They hopped about innocently, some chewing on plants, others just croaking. The old woman swiped at them furiously.
“Woah woah what's going on?!” Oda shouted as he reached the bottom of the stairs.
“I don’t know, but these blasted frogs are ruining my garden!” She said through angry swipes, which were deftly dodged by the frogs.
Oda couldn't help but stifle laughter, luckily this wasn’t noticed, and he quickly launched into action. To aid, he activated his Fire Invigoration technique, deftly flitting in and around the planter boxes until eventually his shirt was folded up like a pouch and held about 8 frogs. The old lady stood there in anger continuing to look around for more frogs.
“Bosslady, I gotta go figure out what's going on, keep an eye out for more frogs!” He said as he began moving awkwardly towards the Academy with his makeshift bag stuffed with frogs. The old lady gave a frustrated grumble followed by a thankyou as she stalked about her yard with the badminton racket raised in the air, ready to strike.
After some strange stares as he made his way through the village, he finally reached the tower and was immediately stopped by a flustered shinobi who was also moving to the tower. “So you’ve caught some! Good, although you need to go to the Academy. Some frogs got out apparently, how many did you catch?” She asked hurriedly
“Oh I’ve got about 8 here” He said, the shinobi smiled.
“That's great! Bring 'em down to the academy and then try and catch as many as you can!” She said as she hurriedly walked into the Kage Tower.
Oda nodded and made his way to the Academy. The frogs continuously fought against his makeshift pouch and tried to get out. “Calm down little guys, we’ll get you back somewhere safe soon!” He said as he walked down to the Academy. Oda was a lover of all things nature, he wasn’t angry at the frogs by any means, they were simply living their lives. He actually thought they were rather cute, their big eyes looked up from him from their enclosed pouch and he poured some water on them to keep them comfy as they made their journey.
The academy was bustling with activity as various shinobi brought in their catches so far, some only had 3, some had more than 20. As soon as the shinobi would drop off the frogs they set out into the village again to search for more. Oda folded seamlessly into the procedure, lining up briefly with other shinobi before dropping off his share of frogs and leaving quickly out into the village.
He made sure to stop at home once more, grabbing some supplies from his house. He had a particular idea, but it would require some set up.
With his materials gathered, he set about on the next part of his plan, finding the largest still body of water. Oda was from Kirigakure originally, and as such, he was no stranger to frogs. He knew they would naturally search out the largest body of water, and would be more attracted to still bodies of water due to the mosquitos and flies.
However, much to Oda’s chagrin, Tsukigakure was very well designed for waterflow in mind. And the village had almost no areas that had bad drainage. Fitting, for a place that was surrounded by the jungle and an ocean. Not a problem, thought Oda, I can make my own. He gave a mischievous smile before setting out to find at least some flat ground.
Having found the flat ground, he went about devising his trap. By the end of his construction, the trap was set.
The trap consisted of a shallow still body of water, already the mosquitos could be seen congregating to it, and already frogs could be seen hopping out from the various pathways towards Oda. The shallow body of water was then surrounded by wooden gate which would close upon Oda pulling a string. From there, there was one spot in the gate that funneled the frogs, the covering of the exit covered by a large pillow case.
Oda spread the process up by throwing some meat and sugars into the water, further attracting more bugs which further attracted more frogs. Eventually, the still body of water had about 30 frogs in it, and Oda felt it was time to close the gates. He pulled on the string, and the doors went slamming down to the ground, trapping the 30 frogs in the enclosure.
Next came the part Oda wasn’t looking forward to, he loved animals and it pained him to even scare them. Regardless, it had to be done. Using a simple low level Erupting Pillar, he summoned the pillar within the enclosure. From there, he activated a few fire techniques, such as his Scattershot technique and his Vapor Dragon Bullet, as well as his Fire Dragon Bullet.
The ensuing heat made the water uncomfortably hot, and the Dragon bullets raced around above the frogs, ensuring to put them in a panic. The panicked frogs all gradually found the remaining exit and funneled in, eventually creating a bulging Pillow case of about 30 frogs.
“Sorry little guys” Oda said as he cut off his chakra to the jutsus and the heat subsided. He quickly tied the bag off before struggling to lift it over his shoulder.
He plopped the bag down onto the desk of one of the frog collectors. The attendant looked up, impressed at the haul. “You should be good for the day shinobi, well done. All the frogs are almost rounded up.”
“Happy to be of service to Tsukigakure” He replied. “And please, make sure those littler fellers are taken care of” He flashed a smile, the attendant laughed and ensured they would.
With that, he collected his mission rewards and made his way to one of his favorite ramen spots. The day was still young, and Oda felt motivated to explore the village for the day. As he sauntered through the market, cold ramen cup in hand, he noticed a few frogs here and there. He smirked as he watched them hop about, and made no attempt at saving them. They had absolutely earned their freedom today.
Oda explored the village for a bit longer before making his way home to rest and have some lunch. The whole endeavor only took about 5 hours, and he was eager to continue this streak of productivity for the rest of the day.
