Training to be a Medical Ninja
Tue Dec 18, 2012 1:23 am
As the sun started to rise a small metallic buzz started to reverberate in the dark room, a shaft of sunlight shining between a small gap in the curtains, a shape moved under the blankets. As the form moved the man would toss the blankets sideways off of the bed, with a large yawn Kairashi would turn slightly and turn off the rather annoying alarm clock. Scratching the back of his head he would slowly crawl out of bed grabbing fresh clothes before stumbling off to shower and take care of everything. Stepping out of the small bathroom he would adjust the handkerchief that hung from his left pocket, a symbol of Tengakure emblazoned on the outward facing side with the symbol of Kirigakure in a small corner of the handkerchief, it would serve as a reminder of where he had come from and where he was now. Walking across to his desk the man would scoop up his jacket and fasten it quickly into place, giving it a tug to flatten out any creases in the fabric. Heading for the door the man would grab his top hat from its hook, locking the door behind him before dashing off down to the ground floor, taking the stairs to keep on schedule. Tipping his hat slightly to the person working behind the counter he would flash a smile before firmly placing his hat on his head and walking out into the morning sunlight, the shafts of light reflecting off of the buildings and the excess steam that hung in the air. Making a beeline for the small bakery he had discovered the day before he would remove his hat upon entering selecting a small basket of fresh rolls to take with him to offer to the other people who would be working in the hospital today to learn more about medical jutsu. Replacing his hat Kairashi would make his way back down the street following the instructions he had received the night before from the owner of the hotel. I suppose today I'll be learning all sorts of things about medical services, lets just hope anyone else working today is competent and we can just put in our hours, have a little bit of fun around lunch or at least a decent conversation. Smiling he would walk into the hospital, taking off his hat before entering, the emotion seeming to drain from his face a little but still he would keep the smile on his lips. Addressing the nurse behind the desk he would look around before looking the person in the eyes, "yes hello I'm here today for my appointment for medical training." The woman behind the desk would motion for him to follow along the left hand corridor until he got to Conference Room 2b, he was also informed that he could leave his hat and jacket there and don some fatigues for his day of work. Looking around the room he would give a little shrug before sitting at the far right side of the table, setting the rolls closer to the middle of the table, but taking one to snack on while he waited for it to be time for work.

The man looked up slowly, watching the boy wolf down the rolls as if he was starving. The boy seemed a bit malnourished, his skin was a rather pale shade almost a sickly see through color, he had obviously not been out in the sun for very long. Smiling politely Kairashi would make a motion as if tipping his hat in greeting, "nice to meet you little Sora my name is Kairashi Zennousha, pleasure to meet you. I'm in here waiting to start a day of training to learn about being a medical shinobi, if you like their should be room for you to stick around and learn a few things yourself. It is important to learn at least basic first aid as a ninja, so tell me Sora where did you come from, what village?" Smiling politely Kairashi would stand, the boy had sneezed causing a slight mess on the table. Stepping over before he could wipe it up with his hand Kairashi would produce another handkerchief from his left sleeve and pass it to the boy, "here use this instead." Turning away for a moment the man would step over and select a small size set of fatigues for the boy to wear over his clothes, "here go ahead and put these on, you'll be recognized as a volunteer and be invited for simple cases and maybe if we are lucky there will be an operation in the operating theater we can watch." Setting the fatigues down he would slide the basket of rolls back towards the boy, "here eat up it'll be a busy day if you decide to stay, and bread makes a wonderful breakfast. If you like after work I'll take you to buy some new clothes, the ones you currently own look a bit worn, and if you do well and behave I'll let you wear my hat around town." He smiled tapping the top of his hat that sat on the table on top of his jacket.

A small smile tugged at the corners of the mans mouth, letting out a small sigh he would wonder who had taught such a young boy to be so aggressive. Shrugging Kairashi turned around slightly to fix the boy in a one eye gaze, "so you are from Kumo, interesting you'll have to tell me about your home someday. For now why don't you turn and look down the hallway the doctor should be on his way here now, the operation should be starting in ten minutes, which means I have to go to the operating theater so I can get a good seat." Walking out the door the man would turn down the hallway and walk further into the hospital, following it down to the operating theater as the doctor who had been sent to retrieve him followed ten steps behind. As he entered the room Kairashi would look over the empty seats and take one of three that seemed to be about half way up the auditorium but still close enough to get a good view of the operation. Looking down at the operating floor a few details would jump out from the bland coloring, a very nervous man stood among a flock of nurses who all seemed to be trying to convince him he had the operation in hand. Smiling he would focus his gaze on the patient, a rather young man to be needing a discetomy, but accidents happen.
The doctor stepped out into the center of the stage next to the table that held the sleeping young man who was suffering from a herniated disc, the young man had been suffering for more then a few months with the symptoms, it was obvious now that surgery was going to be necessary. Taking a deep breath the doctor smiled up at the assembled crowd, "Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the demonstration of the discetomy, you are in for a real treat as this surgery is a rather rare occurrence. See the man is suffering from a herniated disc, which we are now going to remove." Turning back to the table he would select a scalpel and make the first incision going into the area where the herniated disc was located, standing so that the audience would be able to get a good view of his actions. As he cut down it was obvious where the pressure was building up, a small section of the bone was pressing in on the spinal canal, "see here how the bone is pressing into the spinal canal, this is where our problem lies." Selecting a smaller instrument the doctor would start to work on removing the section of the bone that was causing the issues, a daunting and difficult task for even a skilled surgeon such as himself. As he worked the nurses stepped forward, one dabbing at the sweat that continued to build up on his forehead, the sponge was already starting to feel damp, had the surgeon really been this nervous. With a slight sigh of relief the doctor managed to remove the section without any serious problems, holding it up for a second before setting it in a small pan on the tool table next to the operating table. "Now does anyone have any questions?"
Kairashi watched the surgery with great interest, the man was so precise with his tools, it wasn't that big of a surprise to his eyes when the doctor finally managed to pull the bone from the incision, "yes I do have one question, if there had been other complications after this surgery what is the best treatment you would have been able to offer to this young man?"
The doctor looked up as the question rang through the room, "well for this patient the only thing we could do now if the condition doesn't get better or even gets worse would be to do a spinal fusion. Any other questions?"
As the room applauded and thanked the surgeon for his wonderful performance Kairashi would step out of the room, and head back along the hallway towards the conference room to retrieve his jacket and hat. Stepping into the room the man would look around rather unconcerned as he stripped out of the fatigues, the funny cloth still smelling of the mint cologne he wore. Folding the the clothes back up he would set them on the table next to the basket of now cold rolls. Grabbing his hat he would set it down for but a moment as he pulled his jacket on, tugging the material to smooth out any creases that had developed. Heading out of the hospital he would wave to the nurse that sat behind the counter, as he stepped out onto the street the man would place his hat atop his head and look around. Walking off down the street he would head towards the bakery again, it was nearing dinner time and he wanted a nice loaf of bread to go with the pasta he was planning to make tonight on the hotels rather sparse kitchen. The air outside was still warm from all the excess steam that always seemed to hang low in the air. His thoughts drifted back to the surgery he had the pleasure to watch this afternoon, the surgeon had been concentrating so much that Kairashi could see the sweat dripping off of the mans face it was the same sort of concentration he had put into working on puppets. I wonder if I'm ever going to be a good enough surgeon to do surgeries in the operating theater someday. I suppose that means I'll need to practice a bit more. On his way into the building Kairashi would notice a small boy holding his arm and crying, it seemed like a simple fracture but no one had bothered to help him. With a slight sigh the man would approach pulling his large handkerchief from his pocket and slinging the broken appendage in a way that it wouldn't hurt so bad for the boy, he would smile reassuringly, "why don't you get on down to the hospital, tell them to put it on Kairashi's tab he'll settle up for you in the morning."
Stepping into the small hotel he would tip his hat to the owner before removing it from his head, standing on the stairs he would think for a minute before heading up the stairs instead of down to his work space. Walking slowly up the stairs the man would seem a little lost in thought as he walked with one hand tracing a pattern up the wall, his hat balanced on the other rather precariously, he had a long day at the hospital it had given him a lot to think about, the bag with his bread hung from one wrist. Unlocking the door and stepping in he wondered if he would meet the rather aggressive boy again someday or perhaps he'd meet the boys father soon, seeing as the boys father was the Raikage. Shrugging to clear his mind for a moment the man would step into the small kitchen setting up a large pot of water to boil on the stove, Kairashi would wait patiently by thinking back on the surgery again, the doctor had mentioned that if this treatment didn't work the young man would need to have his spine fused. Wondering how that procedure would work he would set about finishing up his dinner for the night, boiling the pasta noodles and straining them before adding a couple of diced tomatoes into the tomato paste, dropping in some browned hamburger and seasoning with garlic and maybe a sprig of rosemary. He made extra to reheat for his lunch tomorrow.
