Father and Son

Gohan looked out over the jagged and rocky terrain as he sat upon the plateau of a high reaching mountain top. Across the landscape a thick mist coiled through the distant range. Low hanging and fluffy clouds populate below that prevent a clear view towards the ground, the sky above being gray and gloomy.

The boy bends over and reaches to touch his toes a few times, lunging forward to grab at his ankles and holding the position for a few moments before pinning his arms behind his back and bending over the other way. It had been quite awhile before he had been able to spend much time with his father, and after this training session they had plans to go on a temporary vacation away from Kumogakure no Sato.

All throughout Gohan's childhood and up to now, Goku had seen signs of an special hidden power within Gohan. Goku noticed that his son was unable to actually control and maintain that large amount of power whenever it was sparked, seemingly only arriving when pushed to the edge or enraged. With all the potential threats that they might one day face or encounter, it would be a good idea to help Gohan not only get stronger but to help him tap into that hidden potential that he seemed to possess.

Arriving at the large mountain top surrounded by many more mountains, above even the clouds. This was a great place to begin the initial training, a place where it was harder to breathe because of how high in the air they were, with a large drop off that could be threatening if Gohan still had yet to fully master the ability to fly with his Ki. Of course, Goku had plans to train in another much more dangerous place that Gohan was definitely not ready for, at least not yet.

"Hey son, ready for some training?" he asked, waving his hand at Gohan, a smile on his face. The gentle greeting and kind smile were not for the training, soon he would have to become serious and try to push Gohan to his limits.

"Sure dad, I'm ready when you are!"

Gohan called back to his arriving father. He had no idea what kind of training was in store for him today, but this high elevation mountaintop promised for some very intense exercise and exertion. A smile was on his face, the boy simply enjoying time with his father more then focusing on what regiment was in store for him today.

At present the boy stood about one meter from the very edge of the plateau, an extremely steep vertical drop off directly adjacent that threatened to deliver one into the jagged stones below. Unaware of this fact, Gohan instead eyes his dad with a large level of naivety. His arms are stretched out and his legs slightly bent, awaiting any and all challenges his dad tasks him with.

"So what comes first?" the boy asks happily with an attitude of readiness to begin.

Even though he was Gohan's father and cared about his son's well being, he knew that he needed to at least this somewhat seriously and push Gohan to the limits even if it nearly killed Gohan. If Gohan was going to ever surpass Goku someday, then Goku needed to make sure Gohan was ready for the next level, to be able to keep up with him and then at that point the level to surpass could happen, so that one day if Goku wasn't there then Gohan could be there to step in and save the world from whatever threat may present itself and threaten peaceful life.

"What comes first?" he asked, putting his right hand to his chin, going into a deep thought, moments before deciding that the only way for this to work was to start pushing Gohan to the limits right away, not taking it easy on him at all and see exactly what level Gohan was at right now. "Well son, we'll just see what level you're at. So get ready, I'm not going to hold back much." he said, his tone starting off fairly calm and relaxed right before becoming serious in order to stress the fact that this wasn't going to be some walk in the park or anything. "I may be your father, but I'm going to be an easy teacher. Be prepared."

He saved Kaio-Ken for later in the training session and remained at his non amplified power level, getting into a fighting stance for a second. His orange and blue gi clothing blowing in the light amount of wind in the area, his expression becoming serious moment before he launched off the ground with his right foot, charging at Gohan with his right fist slightly extended out, and within a flash reaching Gohan and beginning with his left fist slamming towards Gohan's face and then entering a pattern of alternating his right and left fists towards Gohan's face while every third and fourth punch he aimed at Gohan's chest, with his right foot aiming at Gohan's guy region every eight attack in this barrage of taijutsu attacks, hoping for Gohan to be able to avoid most of them, but seeing how he countered and also how he handled getting hit at full strength by the barrage of attacks. The barrage of attacks would only end if Gohan was able to hit Goku and stop him forcefully or if Gohan was hit and sent away from Goku.

Not holding back much? That doesn't sound good.

Gohan took a deep breath and let his smile fade into a look which turned more serious. A feeling of determination and desire to impress his father began to overtake him, a conviction that likely occurred simply because he hadn't seen Goku in quite some time. Without warning his father lunged forward, an attack perceived from his incoming left fist. His mind whirled and his body reacted quickly, both of his arms crossing over each other and tensing up as he held them up in front of him. Goku's attack slammed into his overlapping arms, the boy's defensive preparations allowing him to escape taking much damage, but his father's strength causing his feet to slide back a few centimeters.

Immediately following the initial blow came the incredible assault of Taijutsu, a series of attacks that the boy could barely keep up with. Gohan's head weaved back and forth, making up for his lack in speed by attempting to predict the trajectory of each blow. Each kick his father sent towards him was caught and shoved away, but every few attacks the boy was too slow and would suffer a clean hit to the chest or head.

Stumbling backwards, his stance is almost entirely defensive now, and his eye dart back for a quick moment to perceive the ledge that his back faces, the drop only being a single step away. The onslaught continues, Gohan attempting to fight back with a counter punch aimed for his father's chest with his right hand. The punch is timed well, being utilized after pushing away a predicted kick that Goku sends towards him with his left hand.

Should this counter fail, he may be left open towards an opponent who is clearly much more skilled them him, and his fate may be sealed should Goku choose to punish the boy's aggression with an attack that sends him hurdling from the ledge. The situation is grim, for even if the attack does land, his father will likely re-counter from surprise and land a blow that will leave Gohan suffering from the same fate.

A part of him felt a slight sense of guilt from punching and kicking his son, but again his mind continued to refer back to the thought of Gohan needing to get stronger in order to defend himself and to possibly step in and protect people from death in case Goku himself wasn't there to do it. What did impress him was that even at Goku's current power level, he was still able to at least keep himself from getting completely overwhelmed and utterly dominated. Gohan was able to at least deflect Goku's kicks and even manage to try and counter against Goku in order to make this a real fight, of course that wasn't going to happen at this stage of the training, it was time for Gohan to try and fly like an eagle and not hit the ground like a rock.

'That's my boy' he thought to himself while Gohan's right fist came at his chest, Goku's left hand coming down to Gohan's right fist and grabbing to put the counter to a complete stop and even stop the entire combo of taijutsu attacks. "You're too slow Gohan." Goku says with a smile on his face, right before yelling out "Kaio-Ken", his ki power level increasing wildly as red ki erupts over his body and his strength and entire body increases in power, his right leg bending and his knee slamming towards Gohan's gut at an increase speed above Goku's normal speed from the Kaio-Ken's power boost. If successful, the kick pushes Gohan into the air and then Goku let's go of Gohan's right fist at that point and slams his left hand across his body and forcing his hand to bash into Gohan's head and send him flying off the edge of the mountain's edge. 'You can do it son, I know you can do it.' Goku thought to himself, prepared to fly down and save Gohan just in case things went badly.

Gohan's eyes grow wide upon seeing his easily diffused attack. His father seems surprised by the effort, but this will grant no sympathy after the words criticizing his slow movements are heard. The boy braces himself to be slammed back for being left open for a split second, but instead things begin to get much worse. Goku holds to his word of not holding back, powering up his Ki to reach the state of Kaio-Ken.

The Red energy surrounding his father makes Gohan involuntarily whimper in intimidation, the erupting Ki bringing a clear increase of strength and power to his form. The boy holds his arms up defense again, tensing his muscles up and preparing for the inevitable impact. Goku's knee powers through his defense, the impact being so powerful that it makes the boy almost vomit. The next onslaught of blows are untraced by Gohan, the boy's perception blurred as his father mercilessly finishes a combo that sends him flying off the mountain's edge. The wind resistance does little as the boy is sent into an upwards arc, being shot away like a bullet. For a moment the momentum would stop, the boy reaching a terminal trajectory with little momentum. The howling wind blows through his hair and chills his body, Gohan's arms whirling about as he attempts to grab hold of a non-existant object to anchor himself.

Then gravity kicks in, the boy's momentum plummeting downwards at extreme speeds towards the low hanging clouds. Involuntary yelling escapes from Gohan's mouth as he fly's towards the ground, the wind slamming into him as he descends faster and faster. His body impacts the clouds, his vision covered in white as he passes through the misty air. His mind races, and his eyes close, the boy angling himself so that his feet would point towards the ground.

With pure concentration and a feeling of desperate hope, the boy begins to concentrate his Ki. His power is summoned forth not from a want or desire, but a need. A need to survive and to prove his worth to Goku. His meager Ki energy begins to channel into his legs, the power beginning to coarse its way into the tips of his feet. All the while falling through the air, the jagged rocks below coming closer and threatening to impale the young Saiyan with ease. Gohan shuts out these distractions, and after some slight meditation manifests his Ki and begins to push. With a ferocious cry, his eyes open, the Ki erupting from his feet and immediately stopping his downward fall.

Damn good timing, a spiked rock rests only a meter below him.

The thruster of energy within his feet pushes outwards with intensity, the flare of power resulting in a speedy upwards velocity back through the clouds towards his likely awaiting and watching father. His right arm is outstretched as he flys upwards, bursting from the clouds and towards the plateau where his father was likely standing. If the man was standing where predicted, a powerful uppercut attack would be aimed for Goku's head, utilizing the upwards power of his flight. If his father was not in range to take advantage of this momentum, he would land back on the plateau, his mind clouded with adrenaline and the shock of what had just happened.

He felt a small amount of guilt from treating Gohan so harshly, but this was needed, if he held back it wouldn't teach Gohan anything useful. Enemies they faced would not hold back so it was pointless to train Gohan to take on enemies if he wasn't ready for the enemies to go all out. Part of him wondered if Gohan was going to survive that brutal attack which sent him flying off the cliff without knowledge of whether or not Gohan could even fly at this point.

He stepped over to the edge around where Gohan had been knocked off and sent flying, while looking over the edge to wait for Gohan he deactivated his Kaio-Ken and his power level went back down to normal. It took a few moments before he sense a surge of Ki coming from Gohan down below, clearly he son had tapped into that special power of his and seemed to be approaching at a rapid rate. It seemed that Gohan was accepting the seriousness of this training and had no intention of holding back either, rushing up towards Goku and attempting to uppercut hit him in the chin. Goku barely kicked off the ground and went backwards just in time to avoid Gohan's attack that was aimed at him. Despite avoiding the blunt force of impact from the attack, a small cut formed on Goku's chin just from the ki coming from Gohan and the speed at which his son had been traveling at the time.

"Not bad Gohan." he said, complimenting Gohan. "We'll step it up for this one." he said, raising his ki levels again, "Kaio-Ken x10!" he yelled out, his power levels increase even more than before, a gust of wind blasting off his form from the increase in power and ki aura forming around his body in red color. His expression becoming more serious once more, he looked at where Gohan would be at, his right hand coming into the air, parallel with his chest. A small ball of ki formed at the center of his palm and was aimed at Gohan as he began to charge up the power of the ki blast. "Be ready for this one Gohan." he said, hoping that Gohan wouldn't simply dodge this one, but would get ready for true challenges by countering it with his own ki blast or taking the risk of deflecting or simply taking the blunt force of the attack. He waited for a moment to let Gohan get ready as he continued to charge the attack.

Gohan plants his feet on the plateau landing in a safe area about ten meters away from Goku's position. It seemed his father was much too fast for him to have landed a clean blow, but he had at least gotten very close with his counter attack. Unfortunately for the boy, this encouraged his father to step it up, increasing his Ki level's intensity as the man shouts the words. Goku begins to charge a blast attack, one that Gohan is immediately intimidated by, but encouraged to counter now that adrenaline has begun to flow through his veins.

His father calls out to be ready, and as on cue the boy begins to charge his Ki energy, a thin envelope or power erupting around the boy. Immediately the energy levels in the atmosphere begin to climb around him, tiny flares of energy causing the ground to rumble slightly. While Goku's form was much more impressive in the current state, the boy was still encouraged to meet the power head on.

A small ball of energy begin's to charge within Gohan's grasp, the flaring energy around his form being channeled into the ball as he continues the charge his attack in unison. At the same time his muscles tense and his body begins to brace for impact.

"I'm ready dad," he says in response, intensity and determination residing in his gaze. Likely his father will overpower him in the expected collision of their respective blasts, but the young Saiyan will not back down from this challenge and maintains a powerful conviction to impress his father.

Finishing up the charge on his ki blast attack, a midly large and powerful beam of ki erupted from the center of Goku's palm in his right hand where the ki orb was once residing. The beam soared through the air at an alarming rate of speed right towards the center of Gohan's chest region, while Goku leaned his right arm more forward to make the beam go faster and to pour in a little more ki into the attack itself.

If Gohan didn't try and counter the beam with his own ki attack and failed to dodge then the powerful ki would most likely damage Gohan fairly good and once again send back off the mountain just like earlier, which was something Goku felt Gohan was probably going to try and prevent from happening again. Assuming Gohan did engage with his own ki blast, then the two opposing forces would collide and cause wind to blast off from the impact point, maybe even damaging some of the ground due to the intense power that was in the blasts. Of course, Goku's beam would probably over power Gohan's beam fairly quickly, but this was still a pretty good test of Gohan's ki power.
